Loved the halal beef brisket burger, tasted amazing and I love all of the sauce options especially the chipotle and garlic herb mayo. I don't want to take a star away because i didn't care too much about this but i chose to do a lettuce wrap, however my burger was not in a lettuce wrap. It was rather on top of a bed of lettuce pieces, so it was kind of messy to eat and felt like a salad with a big chunk of meat on top. Not sure what happened to our family's favorite burger joint - Burger Boss - but the burgers and especially the fries did not taste the same anymore. We dropped by a couple times on the weekend around 8pm in June/July 2024 and the staff already started cleaning up putting the chairs away so it felt uncomfortable sitting down to eat. The burgers lost the fresh taste and the fries tasted like they were old. Condiments station were out of ketchup and it felt so unfortable asking the staff because they did not look happy. I have visited Burger Boss many times in the past few years and really enjoyed their burgers. I kept forgetting to write a review, but Iike most people when they have a bad experience they go right to Yelp. I'm generally not like that I prefer to write about good places! Burger Boss in Tustin has always been good. Today, it was extremely busy with "to go" orders, Uber eats type orders, and a big catering order. I was not aware of all this. There were not many people in the place. All 3 or 4 of the ordering kiosks were down which actually, I prefer. I don't approve of self serve ordering. But, I waited almost 20 minutes to place a Burger order for 3!! When the order finally came out 40 minutes later (after waiting 20 to place the order) I was not pleased. The young man was extremely apologetic and gave me cards for 2 free burgers and 2 free fries, which I will use. The three of us ate our food and I went inside to speak to Ramsey (the manager, cook, and all around everything). I apologized for getting upset with him, and told him the foid was delicious and really worth the wait! And it honestly was! It really was not his fault and I owned restaurants for many years. I know better. He thanked me and asked if he could explain. I said, "Of course". He explained how he opened the restaurant that day, wasn't given enough help and had a big catering order and so many online to go orders. He was not prepared and wasn't allowed to call anyone in. I felt bad for him He did the best he could with what he was given. He stayed calm and was very kind and tried to console with free food. If it had been someone else, I might not have decided to come back, but because of the professional way he handled the situation, I will be back. My family has been coming to Burger Boss for years. This has been my favorite place to get a burger. We drive up from San Diego frequently just to get our favorite burger and cheese fries. You can tell everything is fresh. However, this last stop in I was pretty put-off. The place felt dirty, like there is just a lazy attempt at cleaning up at the end of the day. The bathroom was disgusting with mold in the toilet. It really made me not want to come here again. Who knows what the food prep area looks like. Love the concept of a build your own burger where you can customize all your toppings and protein to create your own. The space itself is very large and there is plenty of parking. I loaded my burger with a bunch of vegetables and went for the black bean burger. I also chose to get a side of fried zucchinis and sweet potato fries. The burger itself came out gigantic but I wasn't a huge fan of this black bean patty. It felt really mushy and was falling apart midway through eating it. The fried zucchinis were definitely the highlight of the meal because it was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Here's everything that's wrong: 10 dollars for a the smallest portion of chicken on the ceasar salad and even less green leaves. Was expecting to receive salad as an appetizer but no. Prices are higher than a chain, but so is the quality. Wait times vary but I've never waited much more than 10 minutes even in the afternoon. Happy hour is a good time to visit too!! Menu Insights -- The Classic Chicken Boss (crispy) has a familiar essence to Jack's Chick N Tater Melt sandwich with the chicken, ranch, and cheese combo but it's like the elevated, less greasy cousin since it's fresh and has some veg. The grilled version is good too, but not as juicy as I'd like. Sweet potato fries are my favorite fry side so far. Crispy outside, soft sweet potato inside. Not too salty. There's nearly 10 (if not more) sauces to customize your burger from chipotle mayo, garlic mayo, siracha, spicy mustard, and much more. For my non pork eaters they only use Turkey Bacon (that's right no cross contamination opportunities) on their loaded fries and burger toppings. All of these options at an equitable price point and the amazing customer service is free! So how did it taste! Onion Rings - if you're into the beer batter crunch look no further. Nice, hot, semi sweet and made to order. Clean grease to the rings were not super oily. Major bonus was that they were not overly seasoned either. No one ever comes to the front to take the order or to ask if there are questions. They yell from behind the grill. The selections have dollar signs so its not clear what included and what is extra. Came here to try out the burgers. Large parking area and it wasn't too crowded on a Saturday lunch. These boss of a burgers were huge. They really get you full. I got the ultimate boss and it was heavy. A lot of flavors but the meat was a bit on the drier side. I also had the bbq boss which I thought was a better since the meat wasn't overpowering. Good flavors, loved the onions straws but meat was a bit dry too so added some extra ketchup. For the sides I tried the onion straws and these were an absolute winner. Crunchy yet not greasy onion strips, I enjoyed these more than normal onion rings. The boss fries were also really good as well. The cheese, sauce and bacon strips brought it all together better than animal style in N out fries. The drinks were pretty sweet so I watered it down but really refreshing after a burger.
