    Whopper melt

Quick easy and friendly late night service. Tried a whopper melt, it was delicious but had whopper envy that I didn't order a regular classic whopper.

I think some customer was messing with one of the Halloween decorations on the counter?

Burger King is one of my favorite commonly found fast-food restaurant chains. While Whopper meal I had tasted fine and was fresh, the restaurant's dining room is falling apart. Most of the bench seats have rips in them, and things seem very dated/tired. But I guess I should be happy that they had any indoor dining, since the Burger Kings in my area are currently drive-thru only during the Coronavirus pandemic. The staff *is* wearing plastic gloves and masks. Tables are marked with a "don't sit here" table triangle and the "socially distanced" tables have a two-sided sign that says that the table was cleaned and to flip it over to the red side when you leave so they know to clean it. The men's room needed to be cleaned, but it was lunch hour when I was there. The only shining star in this visit was the Halloween decorations around the restaurant and across the long front counter (including the cat skeleton that someone had posed - see my photo.) The decorations were a nice touch.

There really isn't much to say about this Burger joint, asides from an exceedingly friendly staff and great fresh makeover of the interior ... In a town full of spectacular food options like Batavia, 'The King' fails to shine very bright. With so many dining options on the same street (From five star Pizza and pasta options at Main Street Pizza to Great family dining like at Settlers and Sport of Kings; To Fast food like Arbys and McDonald's) consistency and quality are everything in competing for ratings and customers - and unfortunately here is where this location falls short a star in its rating. Crown Jewels: Exceptional Staff Very fast ticket times (You get your meal VERY fast) Order Accuracy (impressively this place has never gotten an order wrong for my family of four) Clean, well stocked and maintained dining room and grounds. VERY kid friendly Debbie Downers: Food quality issues : (burned fries, wilted old lettuce on burgers and over done crispy chicken sandwich to the point where it's more akin to a oddly shaped hockey puck) Let it be noted this seems to only be an issue after regular busy times like after normal lunch and dinner service hours. Seems to have alot of issues with equipment that causes food availability to be limited on occasion (Vents over friers, the grill and quite often in summer hours - the ice cream machine)

When we walked in, another customer was raving about the food and telling us how much we'd enjoy it, which honestly made me feel a lot better about trying somewhere new in an unfamiliar area. The vibe is like a bar turned restaurant, dark and a little moody but not off-putting. My mom even got a cutesy leprechaun margarita, which made her smile. We started with 10 mild wings for the table, my sister got a Caesar salad and said the dressing tasted homemade, and this is where I tried French onion soup for the first time. It was okay, just really salty. My mom ended up finishing it, but I did like that the cheese layer wasn't too heavy. I'm still on the hunt for a French onion that really does it for me. I didn't get pictures of the mains, but my mom and I both got steak, I had mashed potatoes and she got a baked potato. My sister got the fettuccine alfredo and marveled at the flavor. She kept saying you can tell it's a local spot and not a chain just by the care put into it. My steak was good, nothing crazy but you really can't go wrong. The mashed potatoes were a little bland but still edible. My mom loved her meal and finished everything, while my sister and I both had leftovers. The only downside was the service. Our waitress wasn't very friendly, kind of impatient and a little passive aggressive, like we were bothering her just by being there. Given the lack of diversity in the area, it didn't completely surprise me, but it was still noticeable. We didn't let it ruin the night though. Overall we still enjoyed it and I'd go back if I'm ever in Batavia again. Reasonable prices, solid food. Taking everything into account, I'd give it a 6.9/10.

Oh how the mighty have fallen! I remember when this restaurant was opened by "Alex" and it was…read morefantastic. I knew Alex by mutual acquaintance and growing up in the same small town. He was a professional restaurateur who was paid to sit with celebrities at the posh places he worked in South Florida in the 70s. Whatever else is said, the man had high standards in food and dining experience. When he opened, and for years after the place was always packed and very popular. The food was high quality and your meal came with 2 sides, salad, hot bread and nice presentation at a reasonable price. Alex left the business several years ago and the current owner has run it for some time. Today was my first time back in several years. The outside looks dated and needs a refresh. I almost thought it was closed. It was 2:30pm on Saturday before Mother's Day and almost empty. I don't recall it ever not being full of people waiting at the bar for a table. Until today. The decor is ok although I don't care for the fringe lamps directly over your head. I was going to get ribs but decided on 10 oz prime rib ($32.00) comes with 1 side (I chose baked potato - only sour cream and butter is offered). No salad unless you pay extra! The warm bread was fine with two kinds of butter. My companion had the Kids spaghetti $(8.99). My prime rib came out and it looked about half the normal thickness it should be and in a puddle of juice. Even the server commented about why the kitchen did that. And it was warm, at best. No horseradish or other condiments were offered. No garnish on the plate. Just a thin slab of meat. The juice should have been in a separate cup. But the small baked potato was steaming hot! My companion had a giant pile of spaghetti with about a 1/4 cup of sauce on top! Too little for the mound of spaghetti. And it looked like cheap jar sauce and no meatballs. She didn't mind but I wasn't thrilled. And her fountain drink did not come with the meal ($3.99)! I had a lavender lemon drop martini that was ok. ($10). Ultimately the food is mediocre and it feels like they are cutting corners to keep prices down. But that means it's no longer the special place it used to be. Sad.
