This was my second experience with takeout in the last three months. I really like this Burger King, in UTC SD, but this visit, though a good one, was definitely a different experience. I was apprehensive about entering a commercial space with the current restrictions. At first I couldn't tell if the location was open! The plaza that hosts this restaurant was dark, all lights out, and I couldn't tell if people were inside from the West entrance. All doors were closed, as I tested them, working my way around, and finally, I saw a sign directing me to the East side of the plaza. Signage at the entrance stated the required wearing of masks and keeping a 6' distance. The inside of the building was dark and empty, with only a handful of people in the large open space. I hung back as I waited for someone to order. When it was my turn, I ordered the Impossible Whopper and an iced vanilla coffee. I find the drinks a bit pricy here compared to what I'm used to at fast food places. A small fountain drink is $2.50. Though there are a lot of coupon deals if you use the BK app. Service was very quick- it arrived within minutes. The Impossible Whopper was delicious as always. The "meat" had a char to it, making it taste real- or even better! The veggies-pickle, tomato and lettuce, with mayo, were a nice refreshing addition. I like the whopper very much because of that fire grilled flavor in the burger patty. The fries are crisp and salted just right. They had mistakenly given my order to somebody else. But, they made my order over right away with apologies. That other customer heard the wring number or something. That just shows that they were too trusting and should have checked receipts. Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish Steve Jobs Perhaps it was a clue it was a bit after 12pm, there are not that many food choices at UCSD, and there was nobody in line... Tried the bacon hamburger with lettuce and tomato for $1.59. First thing I noticed was how tiny it was. Next I noticed I was chewing away but I didn't taste much of anything except the starchy bun. There was a tiny piece of bacon in there but the bun beat the flavor out of it. Sadly I had an even worst burger at the company picnic as that one was burned and cold but it was free... Next I tried these new satisfries. Looked like frozen Ore-ida fries I had when I was a kid. They tasted like them too. Not bad but a bit too much salt on these fries. Steve Jobs would have been 59 today. This review is for Steve. I wish I would have followed your advice about staying hungry. I'm no longer hungry but I feel a bit dirty having eaten that bacon burger. :-( 2nd visit: I had a coupon for 10 chicken nuggets and a large fry for $3. The chicken nuggets had that gooey texture of processed meat and really minimal flavor. I tried them with the bbq sauce which tasted sickly sweet like Krafts. :-P The nuggets at McDonalds are much better. Tossed a fry in my mouth and it was like someone sprinkled salt on my tongue. I tried rubbing the salt off with my finger before eating them but I didn't do a very good job as I'm feeling kinda sick now. The fries I removed enough salt on tasted ok. Freshly fried with crunch and potato flavor. The quality control here is pretty bad. On my first visit the fries were over salted too but not this bad. :-P 9/5/2014 update: Tried the chicken fingers. I'm guessing they were sitting out too long as they were very dry. Upon inspection it was mostly batter covering gooey processed chicken much like the nuggets. Also the flavor was mostly of salt. :-P I also tried the bacon double cheeseburger which I ordered without cheese. Upon arrival there is yellow stuff on the beef patty that looks like cheese. Took me a few minutes and many napkins to remove it. I can't taste the puny bacon pieces. There is a slight beef flavor from the burger. Wish I could give zero stars to this place. read more

This Burger King isn't fantastic, but it gets by. Usually, the service here is on the poorer side. Despite having a reasonable number of workers, the employees are frequently extraordinarily inefficient. There'll be a line at the cash register, one person working the burgers and fryer, and two people standing around chatting. Honestly, it's quite frustrating when you're there, standing in line, and the employees are just sitting around ignoring the fact that there's more than one register and that there are two sides to the food prep table. The burgers and fries here are disappointing as well. They take the pre-cooked patties, microwave them if they're not warm, then put it together. It's fairly obvious that they don't change the oil in their deep fryers often, as you can smell the oil in the entirety of PC East Ballroom. However, it's fast food, and it's on the UCSD campus. You can't really expect that much. What is a plus is that in the student dollar stretchers, there are always coupons for this burger king. When this place first opened, everyone was here. If you want a quick snack on the way to class, this was the place to go. Always felt like crap after eating this though. And I stopped coming here, aside from when I graduated, when they would just stick your wrapped burger in the microwave to pretend like they made you a fresh burger. Food isn't good, but it's fast food so that's not very unexpected. I actually would come here for breakfast since it's open before all the other restaurants in the outlet. I have a 6:45 shift most mornings and when I'm pressed for time to eat breakfast I sometimes just go here. Then the past couple times I have come here they've claimed to say they don't open until 7:00am. Then when I ask why it isn't 6:30am like it usually opens, they just say they're "still getting ready". Get your act together, y'all are adults so show up to work on time. The cashier Stephanie is super unfriendly. She was the only cashier but standing far away & playing or texting on her phone for longer than 1 min. We said "excuse me" for her attention, then she came with cold face, only said two sentences "what else" and "$10.23" during the ordering. I'm sure the employees have to deal with a lot during finals and what not so quality seems to decreases around that time but fast food is fast food. You get what you paid for. Service is fine. I don't know about lunch time here, but I stopped here for what I thought would be a quickie before my 7 pm final last Friday. You'd think that half an hour would be plenty of time for one person to order, be served, and consume a tinyass box of chicken nuggets. Not so. Key word is FAST food, people. Nobody goes to Burger King because they serve the yummiest stuff in town. No. It should be like f@cking a virgin. In. Out. The whole ordeal over in a matter of minutes. And you never have to tell anyone you went there. But no. I skidded into my final 3 minutes late, still eating out of a paper bag I had just grabbed from their stupidass counter. But when it's 12:30 PM in the high-time of lunch rush, you should not just be opening your store, building up a ginormous line of people, with way too many people behind the counter, some of who are counting how many sliced tomatoes there are and some of who are just twiddling their thumbs, AND having the manager walk around and look at the hungry and confused people crowd around the not-yet-open-for-business Burger King. I must say that this place really sucked when it first opened. Tons of employees just standing around doing nothing, orders taking forever to get filled... totally not worth it. BUT, I've been attending this burger king for a little over a year now, and they have improved a lot. Still a lot of employees, but they work really quickly now. I've never waited over 2 minutes for my food in my past 10 visits, even when it was really busy. As for the food, it's the usual BK stuff. Yea, they microwave their burgers, but I don't mind, I still like their cheeseburgers :) I also really like their french fries and crown shaped chicken tenders. And on a random note, their oreo sundae shake is just their chocolate shake with a bunch of oreos on the bottom. I came here today expecting to eat right before a class and it was a HUGE let down. There wasnt really anything different about this burger king, it was just that I had to wait OVER 20 MINUTES to get my food! does that make sense?!?! Its called fast food for a reason people! i purposely came to campus 35 min early to eat before class but because waiting in line and ordering and waiting for my order took over 25 min, I had to rush and scarf down all my food in 8 min in order for me to get ready and get to class! I used to work in Price Center East overnight and the only food option, much to my horror, was Burger King. Unless I wanted to starve on my 12 hour shift, I had to buy food from this wretched establishment. Now, I wasn't a big Burger King hater. I didn't think it was half bad...when I only had it once every several months. Now, I despise all Burger Kings because of THIS one. The only plus side is that there was an extremely frail, but very friendly old lady who worked the cashier and the fries were sometimes good. They don't even pretend to not microwave all their burgers. Every time, I have watched them throw my burger in the microwave in plain sight and just squirt on ketchup and mayo and throw on a wilted piece of lettuce. And sometimes, they feel my burger and realize it's not warm enough, so they throw it in the microwave a 2nd time. Being a college student, I'm all about the microwave. But being at Burger King, I'm expecting the flame-broiled patties they always seem to be advertising, not some microwaved patty that I just paid 5 dollars for. I feel sad. Not to mention, sometimes I wait 10+ minutes for my meal. But wait, I only see like 2 people waiting around the counter and 1 person in line. Really not much to say. It's a Burger King. It tastes like all other Burger Kings. I'll give them credit though - they always get my order right and no matter how many people are waiting,they pump out my food in less than 3 minutes. I would rate this is zero if I could. This was the worst fast food experience I have ever had; I was given chicken nuggets that weren't even chicken nuggets. I went to tell the worker that I was not given what I ordered and she asked me to show her my food as proof which was spit out and thrown away. I have worked in a big food corporation for two years and we would never respond in that manner. At subway, we always grant positive resolutions, leaving in many different alternatives such as coupons or double the amount of food for free. i come here when i feel like getting cheap food while studying it up at geisel, so i usually order the jr whopper and stuff food comes relatively quickly i guess. BUT one time i ordered at like 11pm and there werent many people around. i watched the lady make my whopper jr. she put the bun and patty on a sheet and then freaking put it in the MICROWAVE for a few seconds, took it out, added the other stuff and wrapped it up. wth thats sick came again (against my better judgment) and got a steakhouse mushroom and swiss or something (with the onion straws). I only come here when I'm starving after a late night at work. I only eat french fries and cheesy tots. My order always comes out correct and piping hot. But whyyyy does it take so long?? I have a half hour break and they just manage to give me my order of ONLY cheesy tots 5 minutes before my break is done. And there's not even a long line! FAST food people! I think that it's great that UCSD has a 24 hour joint for students studying all night in the new lounge at Price Center East. Star for that... But I only come to BK for onion rings...and they were really hard and salty. What a bummer. And all I ordered was onion rings...but some reason it took quite a while to get my order. I've eaten here several times all due to the fact that it's the only thing available on campus 24/7. What can I say, it's Burger King. I have eaten more Burger King during my time at UCSD than anytime during the rest of my life. What I can say, though, is that I once had some very friendly service. Despite the convenience of being a late night munchie stop, so many things about this place is just bad. The staff here is straight up rude, and I've had a few experiences where the staff has ignored me for a couple of minutes while they just talk to each other. I wish the food quality could make up for it but the burgers and nuggets and whatnot are just bland and literally straight from the microwave sometimes. In my opinion, the fries and onion rings are the only decent things to come out of this place but even then they're not always made well at all. I did my fair share of weird, questionable things in college: - Dumb contests with my roommate to see who could stay up the latest - That time when I decided to go sake-bombing and get drunk before my most important final - That time when I did the ________ - All those other times when I did the ________ - During my first year of college, my suitemates and I didn't want to the CSOs to know that we were drinking in our suite, so we decided to shout at the top of our lungs about eating slices of pie aka taking shots (SPOILER: We got caught) - Eat at the Price Center Burger King (OMG NOOOO, THE HORROR!) I used to visit this BK for some cheap grub whenever I had to do large amounts of studying. Probably because this is the only 24 hour food joint on campus, so I had no other choice. And also, something about late nights and dollar menus and broke ass college students... you know what I mean. Wooo, one dolla one dolla make me holla!! I often felt sick after eating the "food" and swore to never come back, but being the masochist that I am, I always faithfully returned to this Burger King and its miserable, LIFESUX4EVER employees. It's all fun and games until your stomach starts to unpleasantly groan and churn... embarrassingly loud enough for the entire world to hear your impending diarrhea. And then your plan to study hard is rudely interrupted by the increasing pressure in your lower abdomen. And you start to panic and sweat a little because you don't want people to think you're experiencing difficult bowel movements (which you are). And you try to cross your legs and sit in awkward positions to alleviate any discomfort. And you're afraid to breathe or talk or laugh for fear of accidentally sharting yourself. And then you tell your friends that you're gonna leave because you're sleepy, but really, you just want to get home so you can sit on your toilet and let it all rush out. Then after I asked her if they accepted my order of free whopper, she said they were going to close soon at 6:30pm so they refused. They should have been wiser to give another reason to refuse! I came here on a Saturday at about 1PM. There was nobody in line and business was quiet. I got my Whopper with fries and a drink. Nothing special about this Burger King other than its on campus. I wish I paid more attention to see if they microwaved my food, though. read more
