With the popularity of smash burgers taking over all of LA, it can be overwhelming trying them all until you find the one you love the most. Among the top 5 of my favorite smashed burger spots, Burger She Wrote sits on there at #4. Located in West Hollywood, bad parking and high prices are as expected. I mean, you're IN WeHo, what did you expect?? Burger She Wrote has one of the best super smashed burgers. Smashed so wide that the burger ends up looking like a ufo! Crispy crispy edges, sweet Hawaiian bun to balance out the flavor, and crispy handcut fries, yum! The burger spot is super tiny inside, there's only a few seating inside the place, but there are plenty of outdoor seating tables along the sidewalk. It's a poppin' cute little area with a Mexican restaurant next door so it's almost always filled with people, positive vibes, and laughter. Burger She Wrote is what I'd call a classic smashed burger. People woll complain about the price but with the prices of everything increasing, you'll be complaining about basically everything.

    Oklahoma Burger (Double) $14.00

What I Ordered: -Oklahoma Burger (Double) $14.00 I've heard a lot of hype surrounding Burger She Wrote, so I was determined to see if this smash burger lived up to it. I have to say, Burger She Wrote has a very cool vibe and aesthetic. I especially like the flooring with the green cubes, which look like a really cool Windows 97 screensaver. Also, I love the name; it's a clever pun on the 80s hit TV show, Murder, She Wrote. The staff were okay, not exactly friendly, but I'm here for a burger, not a conversation. There are only 5 seats inside, but there is some outdoor seating available. I arrived for a late lunch, and my order was ready quickly. I decided to skip the fries, as the reviews here weren't very positive about them. The burger was just okay - not the best, but not the worst smash burger I've had. It's fine if you're nearby and hungry, but not worth the trip or the traffic. The burger was a bit salty, and with too many condiments, it felt a bit overwhelming. Ketchup, mustard, and mayo seem a bit boring for a trendy smash burger; I would have preferred a secret sauce or even Thousand Island dressing. The burger had too many pickles, but I did enjoy the grilled onions. Overall, the experience was underwhelming. I wouldn't mind paying the $14 price if I had truly loved the burger, especially since I wasn't very full afterwards. Skip this place and try another smash burger spot! It didn't live up to the hype, in my opinion.

Overall it's a good smash burger spot, and the staff is super friendly! I would say it can be a bit oily but if you like your burgers with some more fat then it's perfect. The fries were perfect like shoestring fries. It's a pretty casual spot so it can be limited spots if it's busy but mainly outdoors.

Burger She Wrote was founded in 2021 by pro skater Don "The Nuge" Nguyen and restauranteur Steven Arroyo. Love their "Oklahoma Burger" (owner Don Nguyen is originally from Oklahoma City) which is a smash burger with grilled onion smashed into the American wagyu beef patty. They also make a great grilled cheese. There's a really nice outdoor sidewalk terrace for seating and service was pretty fast.

I know. I know. It doesn't look appetizing. But this is underrated. We'll talk about the fries. They're soggy they're not great, but when you dip them in the sauce it taste like a blooming onion. 4/5 We both got a Oklahoma Burger. Plenty of onions, so flavorful. I've been pouring so much sauce in the burger. It's probably the best Smashburger I've had in my life. We came all the way down from San Francisco just to experience LA food. A friend recommended this place and it didn't disappoint. I doordashed since it's far from my hotel.

Pleasantly surprised by this smashburger! It was tasty and not overly seasoned or oily. The fries were also nice and crisp. The restaurant is pretty small and there are a few tables outside. Service was pretty fast too. Street parking wasn't too hard to find on a Saturday afternoon.

I'm eating my way through the different smash burger spots in LA, and it brought me to Burger She Wrote. Clever pun off the hit 80s-90s series "Murder She Wrote," the place actually doesn't have any reference to the TV show, which I believe is a sorely-missed opportunity (Angela Lansbury would be rolling in her grave)... Any case, my partner and I went for lunch, a few minutes after BSW opened. We were second in line, and overall, it wasn't too busy for a weekday-- customers came and went, and I can imagine that it gets busier later in the day and/or on weekends. Service was nice, if minimal, and I appreciate they served our food and drinks promptly. There are only two options: smash burger or Oklahoma burger. We got one of each, originally as single patties, but we ended up getting doubles as a mistake. Not mad, though, as we'd paid for singles! The patties were ENORMOUS and paper-thin, with lovely crispy edges while still being quite juicy and tender in the center. The fact it's A5 wagyu was a nice touch, and I could taste the richness and quality in every bite. Personally, I found the bun (Hawaiian roll-style?) soggy, which unfortunately did not keep its integrity while eating; I wish the buns were toasted for more structure. The fries were too greasy, and not my favorite-- I wouldn't recommend getting them. Overall, decent burger, but not the best smash burger I've had. BSW is also quite expensive ($14 for a double smash burger??). Glad to have tried it, though, and I'm still on the hunt for other smash burgers in town.

Get'em while they're hot. Preferably, to hang in your kitchen or garage because they're limited.

It's remarkable how often something so simple is done wrong. Yet, the combined culinary vision of Don and Steve (Arroyo), paired with his staff's execution, consistently delivers the comfort and precision of a true greasy-spoon classic served in a cozy street side setting that feels like a long-standing neighborhood fixture. The Oklahoma burger never misses: hearty beef folded into a heap of caramelized onions, forming a rich, savory harmony of texture and umami. A pillowy King's Hawaiian roll barely contains the indulgence, surrendering at the edges under the weight of the bite. The fries arrive crisp and golden earthy in color and flavor, as satisfying to look at as they are to eat. Soon, Nuge will introduce a beer line of his own, and I suspect it will pair beautifully with the menu. Until then, a Mexi-Coke quenches the post-burger thirst just fine. And then there's the staff. Respect is the culture here. As kitchen manager Alejandro Juarez puts it: "It costs us nothing to be kind." Live by that creed, and you'll be welcomed like a regular -- even on your first visit. On that note, after I mentioned that I'm a fellow Oklahoma native, Alejandro personally went out of his way to ensure a simple request became a memorable experience. The kind of gesture you'd expect from a brother. Because of that, I can't think of another place I'd rather invest my money when the craving for a great local burger strikes. P.S: Thanks Nuge. They say don't meet your heroes, but, to paraphrase a comment on your episode of Epicly Latered: "Imagine all of your friends call you a winner and the best. Be like Nuge." You're an Oklahoma icon.

3 Smashburger (Double), Hand Cut Fries, and their special fries (in n out copy cat)!
    Ariana V.

I came back after a couple years and omg!! Still bomb as I remember. They did add a couple special items to their menu and my cousin and brother tried their copy cat in n out fries. I've always loved their fries --you can tell they're made fresh. Their burger... chef's kiss. The people behind the counter were super nice and super quick with our orders. We ordered quite a lot and made it before the lunch rush.

    Justys L.

I came here for a birthday party event and I do want to say these are one of the best smash burgers I've had in LA. I would definitely recommend this place to other people. The burger was simple yet very flavorful. The same patty with cheese, pickles, mustard, ketchup, grilled onions were so good. The fries were OK I could live without them. They were a bit on the greasier side. I would say that the order came out relatively quick. The price is about $50 for two meals. It's a vibe I definitely would come back

Had to try this spot just based on the name. Went late one night. Super busy place. Very small inside, to go mostly. You can eat outside if you can find a spot. Staff were very nice considering how slammed they were. The food was really fresh & tasted very good.

    Sarah S.

Great tasting smash burgers! We got the single smash but next time we're thinking we'll do the double. Fries were good as well, we asked the cashier if we could share one but we ended up getting two with each of us having our own fry instead. Cute spot - small but we came at a good time we think since it was pretty dead. My wife was bummed that they were out of their secret sauce but that just means we gotta go again!

If you find yourself in the neighborhood you will realize quickly that it's not the best of neighborhoods. However you must stop by at least once at Hawkins to enjoy some hommade food. I had been wanting to come here for more than several years. Since I knew I'd be driving by them on my way back from visiting someone. I made sure to stop today and try them. There was several people sitting in cars and standing waiting for their orders. They have door dash and all these other delivery options. Most of there orders are delivery. We overlooked the menu and decided what we were going to get. We ordered 1 fat cheese without onions and tomato combo 1 triple cheese burger combo with large chili cheese fries added pastrami 1 peach cobbler The order came to $52. And some change There menu is American, specializing in burgers, but also serving tacos, hot dogs, chili cheese fries, and burritos. Menu highlight is the "Farmer Otis Burrito" (a 2-foot-long burrito) and options with pastrami and hot links. There menu options are huge just keep that in mind when ordering. We waited for our order for about 40 minutes. Remind yourself fresh and good things take time. My burger was so fresh packed with flavors the meat crispy the mayo and mustard on my buns made me wanting more. The pickles were delicious. Now for that triple burger make sure you bring your hunger that's no burger to play around with. 3 large patties just might send you into burger coma. Those large chili pastrami fries are a meal within themselves. We barley put a dent into them and gave up we were full. Now for dessert that Peach Cobbler was deliciously homemade. Only thing missing was some whipped cream. The cinnamon and nutmeg in each bite was mouth watering.

I'd heard that Hawkins had the best "neighborhood" burger around, so because I work close by, I…read morechecked them out. Whooooo!!! THIS is what you mean when you hear "neighborhood burger joint." The building is located right on Imperial, and parking is available down the small side street, in a little lot behind the kitchen, or in a vacant lot next to the kitchen lot. You walk up to what looks like a house, and order, and wait for your number. There's nowhere really to sit, and there doesn't seem to be inside dining, so I sat on the curb and waited until my number was called. In that time, plenty of people stopped by to grab their orders, and some checked out the little store next door that seems to have just about everything you could possibly need, but you have to get it through the fence. The women who took my order and handed it to me were very friendly, the food was hot and fresh, and it is VERY reasonably priced for the quality and quantity. The fries are EXACTLY what I look for! Thick, super crunchy, perfectly salted, and you get a generous amount. The Fat Burger was made exactly as I ordered it, and had that perfect "neighborhood burger joint" greasiness and char that made it amazing. Everything came carefully packed in a box so I could eat it on the way home, and I got plenty of napkins and ketchup (though I hate ketchup!). These are the places that make LA great, and I will definitely go back again to try other items, and to support what is the one of the oldest consistently running Black owned restaurants in the country (started in 1939!), now run by a woman (daughter of the original owner!), and USC alum! Fight on!
