The following took place last month. Didn't realize I never posted the review. We used to love this place. Not sure how it went so downhill, but we just had the most maddening takeout experience ever. We ordered online and went in at the pickup time only to be told that they hadn't even started the order. They basically blamed us, saying it was because we ordered through Toast, aka the ordering platform that their own website directed us to! Went back in 15 minutes later and they were more apologetic than they were initially. Got the order to the car and checked it just to find out it was completely wrong. Went back again, they remade the order. Still wrong! Don't know why it was so hard to make easy alterations (e.g., no mayo and no pickles). At that point, we just got a refund. The incompetence at this place is impressive. Unfortunate that what was once one of our favorite burger joints has become so unreliable. Won't be going back. Great super thin smash burger and easy going counter service. The edges are thin so if you are a fan of a good seared crust then this is the Maillard reaction grail of LA smash burgers. The double patty structure provides enough beef to strike a healthy balance between crust and substance. Although I prefer a more traditional burger with patty fit to bum circumference this is good enough to come back and unique enough to recommend to anyone. read more

It's fine if you're nearby and hungry, but not worth the trip or the traffic. The burger was a bit salty, and with too many condiments, it felt a bit overwhelming. Ketchup, mustard, and mayo seem a bit boring for a trendy smash burger; I would have preferred a secret sauce or even Thousand Island dressing. Burger She Wrote was founded in 2021 by pro skater Don "The Nuge" Nguyen and restauranteur Steven Arroyo. Love their "Oklahoma Burger" (owner Don Nguyen is originally from Oklahoma City) which is a smash burger with grilled onion smashed into the American wagyu beef patty. I'm eating my way through the different smash burger spots in LA, and it brought me to Burger She Wrote. Clever pun off the hit 80s-90s series "Murder She Wrote," the place actually doesn't have any reference to the TV show, which I believe is a sorely-missed opportunity (Angela Lansbury would be rolling in her grave)... Any case, my partner and I went for lunch, a few minutes after BSW opened. We were second in line, and overall, it wasn't too busy for a weekday-- customers came and went, and I can imagine that it gets busier later in the day and/or on weekends. Service was nice, if minimal, and I appreciate they served our food and drinks promptly. There are only two options: smash burger or Oklahoma burger. We got one of each, originally as single patties, but we ended up getting doubles as a mistake. Not mad, though, as we'd paid for singles! The patties were ENORMOUS and paper-thin, with lovely crispy edges while still being quite juicy and tender in the center. The fact it's A5 wagyu was a nice touch, and I could taste the richness and quality in every bite. Personally, I found the bun (Hawaiian roll-style?) soggy, which unfortunately did not keep its integrity while eating; I wish the buns were toasted for more structure. The fries were too greasy, and not my favorite-- I wouldn't recommend getting them. Overall, decent burger, but not the best smash burger I've had. BSW is also quite expensive ($14 for a double smash burger??). Glad to have tried it, though, and I'm still on the hunt for other smash burgers in town. read more

The place was definitely smaller than I thought it would be, but I am not here for that. I am here for the smasburger! I got the Oklahoma Burger, double patty, with the grilled onions smashed into the meat. It came on a small plate that was pretty much the same size as the burger. The meat sticks way out past the bun, and it has that crispy edge I love. The pickles, onions, mustard, mayo and ketchup all tasted great, and the Kings Hawaiian bun was soft but the burger was definitely all all about the Wagyu meat. Now onto the food, when it comes to flavor the meat was definitely flavorful but we paid almost $50 for 3 burgers and a fry I expected to be full. The burgers are smashed patties so you don't get much meat and they use mini slider sized buns..... and I mean MINI. The pictures people keep posting must be zoomed in or they must've gotten some special treatment because we got 2 singles and an Oklahoma and When I tell you that would've fed one person I mean it. The fry was about $4.50 and when I tell you they must've counted each fry LOL... because there was about 15 exact fried in the cup which I thought was insane. Needless to say, if you're going for just flavor and money doesn't matter then yes this place is okay but if you want flavor plus quantity then this is not your place. This location is just a walking distance to the Grove. I ordered an Oklahoma burger and fries. I was told that there's an hour wait time for this. It didn't really take that long but the wait time is ridiculous for the patty to be grilled fries to be thrown in the fryer. I was surprised how tiny the burger was. It's really small, more like a slider than a burger. The fries were overcooked. I didn't even bother taking pics. The taste was just fine. Finally tried Burger She Wrote and the verdict? It was fine. We came on Friday evening and there was no one dining there other than just take out orders. Service was busy for that reason and we ended up waiting about 20 minutes. I got the regular smashburger and it was slightly to crispy for me and also on the salty side, but that is the case for most smashburgers. I also felt like this smashburger was dry. I do recommend a double to enhance the bun to meat ratio. Fries were also just fine, but slightly too oily for my kind. Overall it's worth trying but certainly not the best smashburger in LA. They didn't have lettuce wraps or gluten free buns. They don't serve lettuce or tomatoes at all in their burgers. Because I am gluten free, I ordered the burger with double meat without buns. I was served 2 burger patties with cheese, grilled onions, and a thick layer of ketchup/mustard/mayo. The meat was good, but no special sauce or anything.
