Well, this was a real letdown. After weeks of trying (and failing) to check out this burger place (I'll get to why in a moment), I finally had a chance, and found their burgers lacking. I had the cheese burger (from the menu: "100% Organic, Grass-Fed & Grass-Finished, Pasture-Raised, Regenerative Beef With Real American Cheese, Organic Lettuce, Organic Dill Pickles, Grilled Onions, And Our House-Made PnP Sauce On A Glyphosate-Free, Seed Oil-Free Potato Bun.") but made it a double. It didn't help. Instead of tasting like a burger, it tasted more like a grilled cheese with some beef in it. And not a particularly good one. It just wasn't beefy enough. And this was, as I said, a double. As in two patties. I can't imagine what a single would've been like. It was also super greasy. Like weirdly so. good thing they gave me plenty of napkins, and they were the big kind. I'd hate to think how much worse this would've been had they been small or had I only been given a couple. I also had the fries ("Seed Oil-Free Fries Cooked In Preservative-Free Beef Tallow."), but they were good and not at all greasy or oily. They also gave me a decent amount of them, which didn't make up for the burger, but it didn't hurt either. As for the place itself, it was very clean, and had a bunch of tables inside. The staff was also nice, and the food came out nice and hot. But then there's the other issue; the one I alluded to earlier: Parking. Parking was super difficult. While there's a small lot behind the place, it's always packed. You also can't park on any of the side streets. Which means you have to find a metered spot on 3rd. Good luck with that. Previously, there was at least someone behind the counter who made the experience feel human. Friendly guy, explained the menu, made suggestions, and even upsold items. That felt like service. There is no greeting, no help, no interaction, and no service. I stopped by Palm & Patties on Third using the inKind app since I had a credit. I ordered the regular cheeseburger and the PNP fries. What I didn't realize when ordering the fries is that you have to pay an upcharge if you actually want the hand-cut fries, bringing the total to $11.25 for fries alone. That's an absurd price point, especially for fries that ended up being bad. As others have already said, this burger is just mid. Honestly, you're better off walking 5-10 minutes to Win-Dow at The Grove and getting a much better burger for less money. The place was completely empty at noon on a Saturday. I was greeted when I walked in, but from there the experience kind of went downhill. I waited about 10 minutes for the food, which was totally fine. I don't mind waiting if the food is worth it. Unfortunately, the burger itself barely tasted like anything. It lacked seasoning and the only real flavor came from the PNP sauce. It's also very small for $8. The fries arrived lukewarm even though I was dining in. They put everything in a to-go bag, which made me feel like they just assumed I wasn't eating there. Apparently they grate cold cheese on top of the fries, which probably would've been great if the fries underneath were actually hot. Maybe. I politely brought the fries back and asked if they could remake them hot. Mind you, I was literally the only customer in the restaurant at the time, aside from what I assume were Uber Eats orders. Instead of remaking them, the guy in the kitchen seemed to just throw the same fries back into the fryer. They brought them back out absolutely destroyed -- hard, overcooked, snapping like matchsticks, completely inedible. I have a feeling even if they have been properly prepared they would not have been good. They just tasted like frozen fries that I can have at home. What made it worse was the attitude. The guy who remade them seemed visibly annoyed that I asked for hot fries in the first place. It honestly felt like, "Oh, you want hot fries? Here you go." Just a bizarre reaction over a very reasonable request. This whole "no seed oil" thing is just a marketing fad. If you're gonna use beef tallow that's fine, but please make the fries be good. I do love a good smash burger, so I'm always happy to try the newest on the block! But that just means there's plenty of competition to compare it to. Palms n Patties is trying to stand out with two main factors: organic grass fed beef cooked without seed oils, and their bun which is grilled and flipped. In my experience many restaurants are using organic beef and no seed oils without making it their entire personality. And the flipped bun had little to no impact on the burger experience. I find the anti seed oils trend very interesting, especially when a place like Palms n Patties is trying to be the healthiest burger in LA. Yes, it's a mildly "healthier" fat, but I still found the burger to be greasier than necessary. I opted to try the regular fries, although there is an option to pay an upcharge for "hand cut fries". The table next to us got those and it's the same small portion size but for a whopping $8. I found the fries suffered texturally and all that was going for them was the beef tallow flavor. I enjoyed the taste of the burger and the crispy edges, but it didn't particularly stand out above any of the others. The restaurant itself is nicely remodeled with a very minimalist interior which is a nice environment to eat greasy food. I would try it again if I'm hungry in the area! read more

I was very excited for Palms n' Patties to finally open in Beverly Grove after watching the construction over the past few months. I went for the grand opening, which was a fun event with a DJ, giveaways, and free burgers. The staff were friendly, the space has a nice minimalist/clean vibe to it, and the location and street parking are great. But as a big fan of smash burgers, I was disappointed by the food. The burger wasn't bad, don't get me wrong. The meat was juicy and had a good outer crisp, the house sauce was decent, and the inverted grilled bun was a fun twist on a usual burger. But it was nothing special, and didn't wow me in the way other LA smash burgers have. It's also on the smaller side. The fries were really what disappointed me. $5.77 for a small side of fries is kind of crazy, especially considering they tasted like they went straight from a freezer bag to the fryer. And offering "organic fresh hand cut fries" as a more expensive option essentially confirms that the regular fries are not fresh or hand cut. I could tell. My sister and her husband took me out to eat here and OMG! It was definitely 10/10. This was hands down one of the best burgers I've ever had. I never thought I would find a burger I liked more than In-N-Out, but this place completely changed my mind. Everything tasted SO fresh and flavorful. This used to be a great spot. Fresh burgers, some of the best fries in town. Something has changed. Our experience today was just awful. The food took twice as long as usual to arrive. We ordered to dine in but they packed it to go. No big deal right. The burgers were dry and totally missing their signature sauce. What's worse is one was so covered in pepper that it was inedible. The fries which are normally fire were cold. Not room temp, actually cold. I did return the fries and they in turn gave me a replacement of unseasoned overcooked rocks. It was awful. It's the first time I notice a charge on my receipt that was for $3.35 for being a large party. I guess a family of 4 is a large party which is ridiculous! That they would have a surcharge consider a family if 4 as a large party. I had a $10.74 rewards and I wanted to use it it showed me I had but the computer wouldn't subtract it from the total and poor girl working there didn't know how to reduce it or make it work. I attended the grand opening and it was excellent and the owner and team were great. So, when I had an Ubereats bogo / discount promo I suggested my neighbor try it too. We walked over and I put our order in and the owner was already sporting attitude, asking why we weren't just ordering there and if we had app credits or whatever. I explained that yes I had a bogo deal. We said no pickles (both orders have to be the same which I hate about using bogo deals) and I wondered if I could have mine on the side if possible and asked, and he honestly could not understand what I meant. It was like he was tired or stoned. After repeating she can't eat pickles and I'd like to have mine on the side instead of No pickles about three times, he said that using the delivery apps is confusing and gave me more attitude about it. I then asked him why he was being such a jerk about it and mentioned all the negative reviews he'd gotten with crazy responses (many have been taken down since they obviously advertise here, iykyk) and then he just kind of mellowed. I felt bad for the guy at the register because he seemed more capable, but deferred to his boss. So, although it's an ok burger and fries, close and convenient, I will not ever step in that place again. I give the place 6 months before it's gone. It's such a drag because we needed a good burger joint on the block and my first experience was so good!! I'm not sure you can call this a restaurant. The employees don't greet you, in fact, they don't even exist. To place an order, you need to use the self-service kiosk. Don't ask any questions or have anything important to say because there's no one to talk to. Wait a second. What's that? Is that someone way, way, way back in the kitchen on the other side of a cubby hole sized opening? Why, yes it is. I think she might be making food. But again, don't ask any questions because she couldn't answer them. Oh wait, there was another employee! He was silently sitting at one of the tables ignoring the other customer, pensively thinking to himself, this job sucks. Back to the self-service kiosk, we specifically came to this place (again, not a restaurant) because of the InKind app which claimed Palms n' Patties was part of part of their dining program. But when it was time to pay, it was clearly not part of the InKind app. In fact, the employees didn't even know how or if it worked. Turns out, there was another customer there who wanted to pay with her InKind app as well, but couldn't. InKind needs to drop this place from their app. Oh, I almost forgot, the ambience of this place like a hospital morgue. Devoid of human life and emotion. They had three tables and a handful of stools in the window. One table was taken by an employee, the other by a couple and thankfully, the third was empty just for us. And of course, the stools were sad and empty. Why anyone would want to eat in this cold, sterile environment is beyond me. Maybe they do a brisk DoorDash business? (But not today.) In the less than 30 minutes we were there, not one other person came in... and it was lunchtime! On to the one positive about this place, the burgers are very good. We had previously, been to another location and the burgers were very good there too. Honestly, that's why we came here. That other location was lively with people excited to eat there but this 3rd Street location was sad and lonely and pathetic. So we ate quickly. Enjoyed our burgers. And whispered amongst ourselves about what an awful experience this place is. Today's generation of younger people want more than a good meal, they want a place they can return to again and again. This is not that place. When no one greets or acknowledges your presence or "thanks you" for coming or wishes you a good day when you leave, is not a place worth frequenting. About 4 months ago, I wrote a review based on a negative experience. Fortunately, I decided to give the restaurant another chance. On this particular evening,I had a very positive and pleasant experience. Palms n Patties serve up a solid smash burger and solid crispy fries at a reasonable price. I would definitely return. The highlight of the visit was the excellent service and attention I received from Chris. Chris was aware that my prior experience(based on our conversation) was not a positive one. He did a superb job of welcoming me and apologizing for the previous experience. Furthermore, his suggestion of adding a jalapeño to my burger took the taste level up a notch or two. Attention to detail and attention to the customer are always a winning combination. Palms n'Patties is immaculate which always makes dining in a nice option. Very clean establishment. Running a business is an incredibly challenging endeavor. Running a successful business is even more of a monumental challenge. I'm glad I gave Palms n' Patties a second chance. I absolutely excoriated the Santa Monica location. So much so, the owner didnt want me back. So.... I felt compelled to try their weho location, closer to me. And well, it was a lot better, but still a far cry from a true contender and in the conversation for 'best of.' So what changed ? First and foremost, this location seemed to have its stuff together and ran its operation more efficiently. I got my burger and fries in a more Reasonable amount of time. Second, I ordered a double but without lettuce. And it was much, much better. Still the smash burger had issues; mainly its presentation, but the bun wasn't soggy , and the onions were properly grilled. I like my patties crisp around the edges -- like razor sharp, and I didn't see this one here . Fries -- still came unsalted . This is an easy fix.... Why?
