"Lowered by Bucket, Raised to Legend" Now, full disclosure: we waited a beat longer than expected for our order, which was mildly puzzling given the crowd (or rather, the lack thereof). The operation is small, so patience is the price of admission. Think of it less as waiting and more as building anticipation. Gluten-free folks, good news and a caveat: GF options exist, and the staff is transparent about it. But if you're a full celiac-level serious, know that everything shares the same skillet. So take that as you will -- this kitchen isn't playing allergen theater, and that kind of honesty is worth a star on its own. What IS worth every star is the cleanliness of the operation (spotless, truly) and the food, which tastes like someone's Alabama grandmother made a breakfast sandwich for the cover of a magazine. The OG breakfast sandwich; soft eggs, avocado, brown sugar bacon, melty American cheese on butter-griddled white bread... comes cut in half specifically so you can dunk it in the signature smoky-sweet dipping sauce **Chef's kiss**. It's not a detail. It's a philosophy. Worth the wait. Worth the drive. Bring cash. Bring patience. Do not skip the sauce.

I saw this place on ig and was tempted to try it out. Growing up in the south I feel like I'm a biscuit connoisseur, so I'll admit I went in kind of skeptical. After checking out the menu, I decided on the bacon egg & cheese biscuit, with the sauce on the side. After trying the biscuit I was blown away! I tried to peek inside to make sure they weren't hiding a southern grandma in the kitchen. The biscuit was just flaky enough and I think I tasted the buttermilk used to make it. The egg was light and fluffy with just the right amount of cheese. So far I've gone back a few times and have not been disappointed. The service was quick and very convenient. It takes 10-15 minutes to get your order, as I watched them cook my egg fresh to order!

Great breakfast spot! Heard about this place on insta and had to check it out. Was not disappointed! We got the OG breakfast sandwich and the biscuit breakfast sandwich! Both were amazing but our personal favorite was their biscuits! Also ordered some extra biscuits with their pimento spread (YUM). This brand originally started as hot sauce and we got a bottle of that which is delicious! We usually Uber Eats this place and the food is always still very hot when delivered! Overall really good breakfast place and this has been added into our breakfast rotation!

The biscuit was excellent albeit a bit pricey. I also tried their famous sandwich and it was tasty but less unique. Small parking lot and food comes fast

Don't get me wrong this place is good yet it didn't hit the spot and was expecting the food to give me more of a wow and honestly for the price as well. I wasn't really a fan of the side sauce and I love sauces. I did love how the sandwich looked and how everything inside of it didn't fall out when biting into it. The service was also great, everyone seemed pretty happy and attentive. It's a small little building on the corner with a few seats outside. Would I try it again..??, Wouldn't be on my top to go list unfortunately. Maybe, if there were different sauces then possibly would love to re visit.

Breakfast sandwich with bacon was delicious. Would recommend. The biscuit bacon sandwich with egg was just OK. I feel like the biscuit overpowered the other flavors. The hot sauce was more sweet than spicy. Maybe that's how it's supposed to be. I do like the simplistic menu. What would be nice is to see maybe a jelly

Oh man I really wanted to like this place. First I want to start off with...I love supporting small businesses and I love a good biscuit sandwich. Price wise. Way too expensive. I spent 60$ on 2 sandwiches,2coffees and a side of biscuits. I have no issues paying for something thats amazing. The biscuits are GREAT! unfortunately that's all I can say about what I enjoyed. ive been hearing about this sauce and it was Ok. The sandwich was mid(not too much flavor). Overall, I'd give this place a 5/10. Wish there was another sauce besides the one they offer because the biscuit sandwich was quite dry and they wouldn't let me modify the other breakfast sandwich they offer even though I don't like onions. Lastly, i want to say that the service was great. They were prompt and the cashier was very nice. Price was way too high for what we got. Wish them all the luck!

Had a sandwich with bacon and a biscuit sandwich. Everything was delish. Loved the hot sauce and pimento cheese dip. The biscuit was so fresh and hot . Definitely was a cheat meal but very well worth it. Took a nap after!

Love the biscuits here. This will be my go to spot for future biscuits. Nice crispy texture outside and soft and tasty in the middle. Carry-on Calabama You passed my biscuit test.

This place was so good! It's in a "groovy" part of the city with lots of eclectic people walking around, IYKYK (typical LA). Service:I was concerned about service based on some of the reviews but that's why you have to go and judge a place for yourself. We had no issues. B: Location: There is NO bathroom or inside area to eat. There's only outside bar style seating on a semi busy street corner. BUT.... Across the street is the Liberation Cafe. We got our food from Calabama then went and got pretty great service and drinks from Liberation. A bathroom and nice tables are inside. Food: A+: Breakfast biscuit. Warm, moist buttery biscuits with egg and cheese! Next time I'll try the breakfast sandwich. A+: The dipping SAUCE. Hot sauce + honey was insanely good. A+: extra side biscuits for later. So good... Menu: A. Although the menu is simple (and handwritten) it hit the spot. I read that someone else said they don't do modifications but luckily this time I didn't have any. Parking: there is a small free lot but if you can't find parking you'll have to park on the side street. My only wish is that they had turkey bacon!!

    O.G. Egg Sandwich with coffee.
    Paul S.

It's amazing what a little sauce can do. Tried this place's breakfast sandwich, which is egg, cheese, avocado, and grilled onion on bread. And as you can probably surmise, it was good but typical. And then I added the dipping sauce. And not to sound like someone on a bad reality show but THIS. CHANGES. EVERYTHING. I don't know what the sauce was, but it was smokey and sweet, and kind of Korean or Chinese or something. Like a super smokey version of duck sauce, only not as thick. Whatever it is, it really made this sandwich something special, one I absolutely want to have again. Now, a couple thoughts about the place itself (not criticisms, just things you should know). It's a small operation, and everything is made fresh, so don't go if you don't have time to wait. I didn't have long to wait, maybe 15 minutes, but when you see a sandwich stand, you think it'll be super fast, and this ain't. That said, the staff were friendly, warned me it would be a moment, and were genuinely apologetic that it did. There's also a limited amount of seating. It's just a bar with a couple built-in chairs. The drink menu is somewhat limited if you like coffee drinks. They just have coffee. No decaf, no espresso, no iced lattes with oat milk and a splash of ginger root extract or whatever. There is a coffee place right there on the corner, but I didn't ask if it would be okay to go and get an iced latte with oat milk and a splash of ginger root extract or whatever and bring it over. I'm guessing it's fine, but I would ask first. There's a parking lot, but it's the kind that can easily get cramped. Lastly, ask for extra napkins. You'll need them.

I want to update my review about the location of Zinc that I wrote over a decade ago. Since my…read moreinitial review, I've continued to come to this restaurant. It remains a unique addition to the neighborhood, as well as a good place to grab some interesting dishes. Since the opening of this particular business, the Zinc chain has opened in a few other locations. Those locations are much newer in not only their establishment but their design. This is not to say that this is still not an interesting, well-designed business, but, with time, it has become a little bit rundown. I hate to say it, but that is the truth. This location could really use an update and perhaps a deep cleaning. I was, in fact, kind of surprised at the condition of this business, for example, on the way towards their restrooms. From my opinion, it needs an clean up and an update. Also, the litter that surrounded some of the outdoor tables where I was sitting at my most recent visit was very surprising. This is just something to keep in mind if you're coming here for your first visit. In terms of what they offer for food, though it has evolved a bit over the years, they still have a great, heath-based menu, with some very interesting choices. For all of you vegetarians and vegans out there, you will, for sure, be able to find some tasty food to eat. Once upon a time, this restaurant was impacted with tons and tons of people. It was constantly full with people either going to the bakery and/or sitting down for table service. Shortly past their opening each day, there would be a line of people waiting for service. This seems to have changed, however. Meaning, if you're looking for an interesting place to eat, with some good dishes, at the far Southeast side of DTLA, near the lofts district, and you want a place without a long wait to get a table and/or your food, this may still be your place to go.

This was, without a doubt, the worst experience I've ever had at Zinc. I've been coming here on and…read moreoff for the past four years and have never experienced customer service this bad. We started with coffee. My boyfriend ordered a mocha, and I ordered a salted caramel latte. His drink was fine, but mine had absolutely no flavoring. As a former barista, I could immediately tell it was just a plain iced latte. I politely asked the waitress if they had forgotten the syrup, and she insisted, "There is syrup in it, but I can ask them to add more." I knew there wasn't any syrup, but I didn't want to argue, so I said, "Sure, please add more." A few minutes later, the manager came over and told me they actually didn't have salted caramel. So I asked if I could just get a regular caramel latte instead. She then told me they couldn't make that either because they were out of caramel sauce, the very reason they couldn't make the salted caramel in the first place. So why hand me a plain iced latte and tell me it had syrup when you knew you didn't even have the ingredients? Why not simply come back and let me know you were out and ask if I'd like something else? Instead, I was given a regular latte at the price of a flavored one (plus they later charged me for the syrup they never even added). For context, I had originally ordered a dirty chai, which they also couldn't make. So that's two drinks they didn't have, yet no one thought to communicate that before serving me something completely different. When I told the manager I'd look back at the menu for another option, she responded, "Okay... are you going to tell the waitress what drink you want?" I just looked at her, confused, and said, "Well... yeah?" How else was I supposed to order a replacement? The interaction came across as unnecessarily rude. Then it was time to order food. My boyfriend ordered the truffle burger, and I ordered the French toast. The waitress came back a few minutes later and said they couldn't make the French toast. No problem, I told her I'd also have the truffle burger. She acknowledged it, wrote it down, asked how I wanted it cooked, and what side I wanted. I ordered it medium-well with fries. So both burger orders were sent in at the same time. About 20 minutes later, the food arrived, but only my boyfriend's burger and an extra side of fries that we never ordered. At that point, we didn't even bother saying anything about the fries because we were trying to avoid making things more difficult. We waited another 20 minutes (even though it was so slow). My boyfriend finished eating, and my burger still hadn't come out. Finally, we asked for the check and requested that my burger be removed since it never arrived. That's when the waitress told us I had never ordered a second burger. I was honestly speechless. I reminded her that she had taken my order after telling me they couldn't make the French toast. She had written it down, asked how I wanted it cooked, and asked what side I wanted. Her response was that she thought I meant only my boyfriend's burger. That explanation made no sense because my boyfriend's order had already been taken before she took mine. It honestly felt like we were being gaslit over something as simple as ordering a burger. To make matters worse, after we paid and were finally leaving, I looked at the receipt and realized I had been charged for the salted caramel latte that I never actually received. We had to go back yet again. Thankfully, a different employee, not the waitress or the manager helped us. They were friendly, understanding, and quickly corrected the charge. I'm not sure if management has changed, but this entire experience was unnecessarily frustrating from beginning to end. Everything that could have gone wrong did. Honestly, I should've taken the "B" health grade posted on the window as a warning. We ended up walking over to Blue Bottle next door for coffee instead, and I'd absolutely recommend going there if you're looking for a place that actually values customer service. After four years of coming to Zinc, this experience has me seriously questioning whether I'll ever be back.

Distrito Catorce combines exceptional food, a great atmosphere, and top-notch service. It's the kind of place that leaves you planning your next visit before you've even finished your meal. Definitely plan on coming back to watch more World Cup games.

To be honest, I was already biased because his Smorgasburg pop-ups were consistently good. But Distrito Catorce is different , it's like art. My favorite dish was the tacos de papa with salsa macha. The crunch of the potato taco riding into the salsa macha and crema felt like home, but with some extra pop. His salsa game is on point. The scallion salsa on the ribeye taco was also gas. Lastly, I really dug the tostadita de atún. It hit perfectly on these hot summer days. Low-key, I still want to try the El Rey de Noche. Tacos de beef trompo are starting to hit LA, and dude was ahead of the curve making picanha-brisket tacos de trompo. Service is smooth too. The servers are helpful, and solid at the bar. Overall, it's a cool spot with a menu that feels unique to LA.

Made a reservation and our table was ready inside the air conditioned dining room with a fantastic view of the open kitchen. Dining is also available on the outdoor patio or at the kitchen counter! Service throughout the meal was excellent. Started off with the biscuits with cured ham and it was world class. The biscuits were super light and went extremely well with the butter-like spread along with the cured ham! The cucumber appetizer was also excellent and super refreshing for a warm summer afternoon! This was also served with slices of super fresh toast. Thse soft shell crab was excellent as it was lightly fried and served over a bed of super fresh vegetables! The hen of the woods mushrooms dish was also a standout dish served over some polenta cakes which were also excellent! The hanger steak was decent and may have been the weaker dishes for lunch. The barramundi entree was perfectly cooked with super crispy skin along with a moist interior. Ended off lunch with dessert which was also excellent! Parking may be trickier within the Arts District. Parking right outside the district may be the answer! ~$65/head after tax and gratuity for lunch.
