I went to Burgerlords because I heard they had vegan burgers. I showed up hungry, with lettuce in my heart... and confusion in my soul. It's a cool retro vibe, BUT - Ugh another smash burgers. Real beef. Real tallow fries. Real expensive. The burger? Pretty solid. Crispy edges, juicy middle. I respect it. The fries? Fried in tallow. That's cow fat, man. You ever eat something that's delicious and feel like it's judging you from beyond the grave? Here's the thing though--I kept lookin' at the menu for the vegan stuff. I thought maybe it was invisible. Maybe it was hiding. Maybe the Impossible patty was impossible to find. Also, $25 for a combo? My girl and I got two burgers, fries and a Mexicoke with no ICE [wink wink] $45! That's more than my first car payment... but the burger's faster. So yeah, tasty burger... fries so good they'll make you forgive the existential crisis... but if you're plant-based, you gotta ask yourself: "Where did the veggie burger go?" How I loved thee when Chinatown location was still open. But even then it's worth the drive over to Avenue 56 just to get these wonderfully juicy, not impossible based burgers made with a in-house recipe. I've always loved all sorts of the in-house version of fries and their particular vegan cheese sauce. V/V+ with ease. When the line is stacked, you'll spend about 5 to 10 minutes waiting. It's mostly a grab and go experience. But there are small café tables lining the sidewalk that are shared amongst the other restaurants. The skin on french fries really tasted supernatural reminding me of the original 45 second In-N-Out fries. read more

Simple and straightforward menu, they sell burgers and tallow fries. I did wish to see an actual menu, because as far as I know, I didn't see one. So other than what I asked about, that was all know that was on the menu. The benefit of that though is with less choices, it's easier to decide what to get! Came here before a show next door at the Lodgeroom, and it wasn't busy, so we opted to grab a quick bite here. I like that they've kept the interior of the original diner, though I think a little set dressing or utilization of the space would make the space feel more lively. It was pretty quiet, but we were here on a Monday night, so I imagine weekends being fairly busy. The burgers were solid, though I think the fries were quite oily. I like how they have vegetarian burgers, though it can't be in a smashed form, so I opted for a double smashed cheeseburger. With a side of fries to share, I think it was just right, not too much, not too little. There weren't many drink options other than the canned sodas in the fridge behind the counter, so that was a bit disappointing. The bathroom is out in the back, though a back end hallway, which actually shares the hallway entrance of the Lodgeroom venue! It's a seperate room with a code, and though the surrounding area was more of a back building, the bathroom was relatively clean. Simple, straightforward, with street parking, and a solid burger option which is more on the expensive end. I like thier branding so it'd be cool if they had merch rack to decorate thier space, I'd probably buy something! I've been to a few of their other locations, and they have great locations, and easy to please burgers so I think they're a pretty cool chain! This was the monthly special so I had to try it. I liked the variety of textures from the creamy aioli to the crunchy pickles and the soft bread that slightly soaked up some of the sauce flavors. As someone who eats a lot of spicy food, this did not have a strong heat punch. The burger itself was a meaty texture and held together well. I've heard many great things about this place, but my experience was not so great here. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy the food as much as I thought I would. The pictures I see on Instagram look way better than the quality of their food. The burger looks so juicy, stacked, and full in their advertised pictures and posts; the texture of their "beefy" patty was not pleasant. My beefy patty was cold, chewy and dry. I would have liked more 2,000 Island sauce (which is delicious) on the side for my burger to help with the dryness. The menu is also a bit confusing and the guy at the register was not helpful at all in explaining the "Burgerlords Cheeseburger." When ordering the Burgerlords cheeseburger, I guess you have the option of "beefy patty" or "veggie patty." It was only when my cousin decided she wanted a "veggie burger" when the guy said "so you would like 3 Burgerlord cheeseburgers?" He did not mention anything about being able to choose your patty. Overall, the situation was very confusing and he did not bother helping us at all even though we clearly looked confused. Aside from the 2 beefy burgerlord cheeseburgers and 1 veggie burgerlord cheeseburger, we ordered the lord of the fries and crispy tofu nuggets. Again, the tofu nuggets had this unpleasant texture of soft melted tofu on your first bite with a slight crunch of the outside burnt crust. The two sauces I tried with the nuggets were ranch and bbq. The ranch was, in my opinion, nothing like ranch - it tasted like mayo. The lord of the fries were my favorite of all I tried. The cheese was melted perfectly on top of the fries and had yummy grilled onions and the 2,000 island sauce on top. I like the vibes the restaurant gave off - old diner vibes surrounded by cute lights and planters. Towards the end of the night, there are lights lit red by the window. Wow, insanely racist establishment!!!!! I have never seen this kind of racism before. I watched this waitress treat this Arabic family with Palestinian scarves like dirt. She told them they need to leave 5 minutes after their food was served bc it's closing time (they had just ordered and it was exactly 9pm) and started grabbing ketchup and water cups away from them while they were eating. When one of them complained she just squirted a bunch of ketchup on their plates and walked away and started snickering with her coworker that had just taken their order laughing at them. This was like a bizarre version of mean girls! What was even worse it was clear that it was a family going out for graduation Night as one of their children were dressed in graduation regalia . The way this place went downhill after being bought out by Wake & Late is absolutely insane. Burgerlords was my ALL TIME FAVORITE place to go in general, and now I mourn what was once the best vegan spot in all of LA. They completely stripped the restaurant of all character & ruined the name completely. Taking away the vegan menu was their biggest mistake, as well as making it plain and ugly on the inside. Mind you, $25 for a crappy smash burger & fries is ridiculous in itself. Hope they close down within the year so something else takes place. Only option left is a bland veggie patty (10 times worse than previous recipe) and fries, for which you'll have to spend $25 for. There was a market for a great vegan burger spot in the neighborhood. I'm not a big diner food kind of gal but some friends recommended this place because it was next to the venue we were headed next. It's a very retro style place with leather booths and old timey signs. I ordered the original with their house made veggie burger, which they claim has over 30 veggies in it. My husband got the smash burger and we shared the lord fries. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised! Not the typical greasy diner burger I'm used to. I could actually see whole chickpeas in this patty! The toppings tasted fresh and crunchy, while the toppings were well ratioed. My husband enjoyed his, too, though he regrets not asking for lettuce/tomato/onion (doesn't come on that one). The wait wasn't terrible, considering the other Yelp reviews about delays. The only thing I'd knock them for is price and variety - even though there are four different types of burgers on the menu, they're hardly different. It really feels like two types: smash burger or original style. I can only imagine how tasty it would be if you could get grilled shrooms or avocado on it. Pretty yummy food here and since it's so close to the Lodge, it's a great spot to eat at pre or post show. I came here before going to a show at the Lodge and thought it had a cool, classic diner-like vibe with updated twists. The cashier was friendly and helpful and my meal arrived fairly quickly. I ordered a vegan cheeseburger and my husband got a breakfast burrito. We swapped dishes to try each other's food so I could say 100% both orders were absolutely delicious. The burger had such a pretty presentation that I almost felt guilty for biting it. Upon tasting it, though, that guilt totally went away and I noshed away. "Don't fix what ain't broke" ..... The new owners of Burgerlords are the victims of the original owners' exit strategy. They built up an empire and sold it at its peak. Burgerlords used to be cozy, with plenty of 60s and 70s decor, Christmas lights, trinkets and an incredibly friendly staff. Now it is a cold, aesthetic-less dump. This place has turned into a nightmare. My only hope is that they attempt to return it to its original vibe and original (extremely vegan friendly) menu, or shut down, so that something better can come into this prime location. read more

Cheese burger - the patty was flavorful, super crispy on the outside and mushy on the inside. The cheese tasted like real American cheese. One of the best vegan burgers I've had. Great place for vegan foods. Their vegan double cheeseburger was great! Super filling, and love the different components/ mix of nuts and textures in the patty. Tofu nuggets were fantastic as well! Outside was crunchy and inside was soft. Definitely not a fair comparison to chicken nuggets, but I think these stood well enough on their own. Favorite part of the meal was the Oreo milkshake. (This was short of a miracle because in every attempt i had made to test this place out, I was thwarted by our mismatched schedules.) The menu is short and sweet. Nearly everything is made in-house. I went with the BURGERLORD CHEESEBURGER on a GF bun with a GF patty. Plus a side of fries. 10 minutes later, I left with a little cardboard box and hopped in my car. Disclaimer: I didn't even start my engine before taking my first juicy bite. The sauce is tangy and perfectly proportioned. The veggies were additive, enhancing every bite. I felt like I had snarfed down a classic 50s burger (note: From what i imagine it would be. I'm in my 30s). But this one? No guilt. My only gripe is that there's no milkshake without almonds. Alas.
