I was in the area and this place got good ratings. We got a lot of dishes and shared family style. We got laphet thoke salad, OHN NO KHAUK SWE soup, NAN GYI DOK noodles, and broccoli and tofu. The food was flavorful and super good. My favorite was the Ohn No Khauk Swe soup and the salad. The presentation was cool too and they also would mix the food in front of you. I will say that after a few hours, my friend did get sick. I also had stomach pain but figured it was because I ate too much. I'm not sure if this was correlated to this food, but wanted to be honest and say she did have stomach pain for the next few days.

Great place with great food. I usually order to go but recently went and dined in. I sat outside and the waiter was friendly and efficient and made sure to offer to turn on the heat lamp for us once it got cold. I'm vegan and Burma has really good vegan options with a clearly labeled menu for what is vegan or can be modified to be vegan. The main con is this place is pricey for their portions in my opinion. I would recommend going with a group and doing family style, otherwise the bill can add up pretty quickly.

Food was great! Burmese food feels like Indian flavors with its own unique twist, which I really enjoyed. Everything tasted super distinct and flavorful. The service was friendly, and they were especially sweet about my dog. They brought him water right away. We sat outside on the patio, which made it an even nicer experience.

I arrived very early to meet a friend on a Tuesday evening. The restaurant was not too busy around 5:00. There was also tons of outdoor (covered and heated) seating. The staff were super accommodating when I let them know my friend wouldn't there for maybe 30-40 minutes. Our server was awesome. The outdoor seating was cozy even as the sun went down. He occasionally checked in to see if the temperature was still okay. I don't remember the gentleman's name, but our server was great. He bought out the Golden Hour Menu (M-F, 3-6pm). The drink specials were amazing. Cocktails for 50% off! Most, if not all were about $8 and yummy. We tried a number of them. The cucumber water was refreshing. The ginger lemon drop had just enough of each flavor component to hit the spot. I ordered the chicken samusas ($7), salt and pepper chicken ($8) and the calamari ($9) all from the Golden Hour menu. Portion sizes were hearty. Our server was kind enough to let me order before my friend arrived and waited until she arrived to serve us. It was plenty of food for two people. The only minor note is that the bathroom is down a somewhat small walkway past where take out and dishes are stored. Some of the tables inside looked very compact, especially if a party of two orders more than two dishes. Outside table for the win! We had such a great experience. We were there for at least three hours and never once felt rushed to leave after we finished.

Enjoyed a great lunch with friends at Burma Superstar! The service was super attentive and responsive. That's what gave it a 5 star rating. We ordered a few dishes and ate family style. I really love their coconut rice and their catfish curry, I have had it several times. I also had the ginger lemonade. This was my first time trying the chicken appetizer it was so crunchy and delicious. It was also my first time having the lamb and tofu dish, also very good! I recommend stopping here when you're in the neighborhood and want to enjoy outdoor or indoor seating on a nice day!

If you are feeling down and want something to fill your stomach and heart, this Burmese restaurant is the place to go. This place is wonderful! I was having a tough Sunday morning and overall weekend but the service, drinks, and food here revived my spirit! Chris the bartender is such a sweet chill guy, and made me a great thai tea and offered me to try the Mango Lassi-- it was sooo good and genuinely made my day. This dude is the best bartender Ive met so far this year what a great guy Chris is. What a wonderful ambiance too, so well designed and such a chill and beautiful restaurant and bar! Not only is the service wonderful with great people, the food is sooooo good! The Mohingh was a big portion and very filling and tasty, I cant wait to finish this later! I usually am not a fan of fish but THIS CHANGED MY MIND!!! I LOVE CATFISH!!! This made me more open minded to trying fish dishes again! However... out of everything...my favorite was the Tea leaf salad, and Chris made it in front of me which was super cool to see. It was genuinely such a nice Sunday afternoon coming to this place Genuinely 11 out of 10 stars!! I WILL be coming back here again.

First time at this location and it didn't disappoint. I called in to make reservation for 6 pm same day and they were able to accommodate. Tea Leaf Salad:enjoyed all of the different textures and flavors. Fried Calamari: nicely fried and nice portion with jalapeños/scallions Garlic noodles were a big miss. Not much garlic flavor and didn't really taste much flavor at all. The chicken curry was good as well. Not spicy at all to me but had good flavor. Get the coconut rice too. Service was nice from everyone. Indoor/outdoor seating available Street parking

Burma Superstar was always a reliable DoorDash for me during Covid. A bit pricey but always consistently hits the spot. Yesterday I ate here for the first time in person. The quality of the ingredients were the same. Portions are huge came home with so many leftovers which I know, I will enjoy later. All the salads are great here, but my favorite is always the ginger salad. Love all the ginger flavored dishes. Pork with Mustard greens was a bit too sour and I probably wouldn't order again. The shrimp dishes are all yummy!

My first time trying Burmese food. I ordered the tea leaf salad. It was delish and I enjoyed watching it being prepared at my table with an explanation about the dish. The portion was huge since it's family style dining. Friendly staff. Cute modern interior with big bright windows.

I love Burmese food! Have been to the location in sf many times. I ordered the fiery lamb and tofu with the Thai iced tea! I enjoyed my meal For the most part. Some of the lamb pieces were super chewy and felt like weren't cooked all the way through:/

My friend brought me here for my birthday dinner. We had a time! Service was really good - are needs were met, but it wasn't too annoying, where we were interrupted every five seconds. The food was delicious and the drinks were strong! I had the typhoon and after the first two sips, whooo! It was so strong that we ended up cancelling round two, since we were driving. My favorite dish - the Walnut Shrimp, yummers. The servings are actually pretty large and although it was two of us, we ended up having a ton of leftovers to takeout. I can't wait to return - good food, good relaxing vibes.

I cannot say enough good things about our experience at Burma Superstar…read more My nephew and I were running late and arrived around 2:20 PM--after the kitchen had technically closed. Instead of turning us away, the staff graciously seated us and welcomed us with genuine warmth and kindness. That level of hospitality is rare and deeply appreciated. Our server, Hameed, was absolutely wonderful--so patient, attentive, and gracious even though we arrived at such an inconvenient time. He made us feel completely welcome and never rushed us. The food, as always, was extraordinary. The Tea Leaf Salad and Samosas were exquisite--bright, complex, and perfectly balanced. This was my nephew's first time trying Burmese cuisine and he was completely blown away. For our mains, I had the Shredded Mint Chicken, which was fragrant, fresh, and packed with flavor. My nephew ordered the Chili Lamb, and he loved every bite--rich, savory, and beautifully spiced. It was one of those meals where every dish delights, and you leave already thinking about what you'll order next time. Burma Superstar has long been one of my favorite restaurants in Oakland, and experiences like this are exactly why. Exceptional food, exceptional hospitality, and a team that truly cares about their guests. I will continue to recommend Burma Superstar most highly to anyone looking for a memorable meal in the East Bay.

Things changed: more breading on the chicken (spicy crispy chicken) and reduced protein in some of the other dishes, too. But the flavors still hit and its popularity hasn't dimmed much on the nights I've gone over the last few years. I bought their cookbook years back but much of what I like isn't in it, so I keep coming back for the food and community vibes. There is a communal table, which I appreciate though I tend to sit at the bar when I go alone. It's worth it to get a view of what's happening all around you. The B S in Alameda doesn't have the same energy or coziness, but it is easier to access with safer parking (now windows broken there but I've had that here and been hassled walking to/from) and dramatically shorter waits. The diversity of the diners is much lower than this one though (Alameda is still mostly old white people) and the menu has more options here, so I'll continue to return again and again and recommend it to others ... and hope to not have to replace car windows.

I love the food over there and I had the advantage of tasting it homemade so when I go to restaurants here I have a little bit more of an educated pallet. Do you like the funk?…read more Our server explained to us the Lao version is more funky and fermented, while the Thai version is more mellow. We went with the Lao version. The Thai iced coffee was delicious and strong! As it should be. It did give me the jitters though because I'm a weak sauce. We were a party of ten and I was able to make rezzies via phone for a Friday evening at 6:30pm no problem about a week beforehand. The kiddos ordered à la carte, and five of us adults had the following: - BMV ultimate papaya platter with Lao sausage, angel wings and crispy pork. Crispy pork was legit, papaya salad definitely had that extra funk. The angel wings were crispy and meaty and my friends loved the Lao sausage. One even said "it's like tom yum soup in a sausage". It was very lemongrass forward which is not my thing, but that's my problem. I feel we could have ordered à la carte and that would have been a better deal than $75 for the platter. Some of it was fluff like the cabbage, rice and pork rinds. - Khao soy soup: Fiancé thought it would be creamy and coconut-y like the Thai version but it wasn't. I did enjoy the flat noodles but they were all stuck together. - Pia pla ka pow (fish with basil): Good one. The fish was moist and flavorful. The veggies were al dente and delicious too. - Sakoo: Unique! I enjoyed the chewy mochi exterior and the savory ground pork filling. It needed a sauce. I just used the chili sauce that was on the party platter. - Laab Gai: This fell flat for me. I'm not a huge fan of organs though. - Nam khao fried rice: One of our favorites! The crispy pieces really made this dish. Would definitely order this again. - Mango sticky rice: Served warm. Very sweet mango! - Purple rice with egg custard: Also served warm. This was ok. - Side of rice: HUGE serving! Unfortunately it was clumpy and hard, which means old. Street parking only. Get the nam khao and mango sticky rice!

The Roti Dip was OUT OF THIS WORLD (6/5). It exceeded my expectations. The Roti was very soft and crispy and the dip had an amazing coconut/herby taste. The waiter saw how much we loved the dip and brought us another one to use for our rice. Big shout out to her! The chicken wings were okay. Not that spicy for me (I have a high spice tolerance) but I expected them to be more savory. They were cooked very well though. I would give it a 3/5 Unfortunately, I was pretty disappointed with my main which was the crispy whole dried fish. I am a sucker for whole fish dishes so I was pretty excited and expectant for something spectacular. The fish itself was bland. It was very crispy and cooked well but not really seasoned. I had thought the sauce they serve with it was intended to impart flavor on the fish, but the sauce was just very tangy and not flavorful. I did finish the fish though but it's not something I would get again. Overall a 2.5/5. Their coconut rice was good though I was expecting more of a coconut flavor with it. I would rate that a 4/5. It was cooked very well. I think this is a really nice place though, perhaps I just did not order the right or more popular dishes. I'll be coming back for the ROTI WITH DIP (It was that good) and to try the other items in their menu.

I really loved the interior design. Everything was clean and well put together. The restaurant had a smaller, cozy feeling but still felt spacious enough to sit down and enjoy a meal. My favorite parts were the cultural decorations and paintings throughout the restaurant. Little details like that made the experience feel more authentic. Even the cashier area was beautifully designed and added to the overall atmosphere. Customer Service - 5/5 The service was very good. The server was extremely welcoming and friendly -- I believe she might have been the owner. She greeted us with a beautiful smile and created a warm environment that made the whole dining experience even better. Small interactions like that make a restaurant feel more personal and memorable. Food - 5/5 Dish Ordered: Trei Chlaing Chein Kroeung (Pan Fried Catfish) 5/5 My first time trying Cambodian food, and honestly this was an amazing introduction to the cuisine. This was one of the best fish dishes I have ever had. The fish was cooked perfectly -- crispy golden skin on the outside while staying incredibly tender and flavorful on the inside. The sauce was what brought everything together. It was light with the perfect consistency, not too thick and not too heavy. You could taste the lemon coming through, adding the right amount of freshness and kick. There was a little spice, but not the kind that takes over the dish. It created a wonderful balance where every flavor complemented each other. The combination of the fish, sauce, citrus, and seasoning was simple but executed perfectly. Every bite made me want to keep eating. It was honestly delicious. Would I Order Again: 100% Yes. This is easily a dish I would come back for. No surprise this restaurant was previously Michelin recommended -- you can taste the quality and care behind the cooking. Additional Comment: I've always struggled with the idea that eating healthy means sacrificing flavor. A lot of healthier foods like salads can sometimes feel unsatisfying, but this dish reminded me that food can be both healthy and incredibly delicious when done right. I have passed by this restaurant ever since I was young, and it's amazing to see that it's still here after all these years. Seeing a restaurant with food this good not filled with customers honestly feels like a shame. Great food deserves to be discovered, shared, and supported. From the welcoming service, beautiful cultural atmosphere, and unforgettable food, this was an incredible first experience with Cambodian cuisine. I will definitely be back. Every grain of crispy rice was fried to perfection and there was a wonderful sour and spicy tang throughout each bite. The other dish I really enjoyed was the Lao sausages. These sausages are packed with so many different herbs and spices. The lemongrass flavor was especially prominent. I haven't had Thai food since my parents passed away and found this spot after another favorite…read morerestaurant nearby was taken over my new owners and a totally different menu but still wanted to find a nice waterfront place to meet up with a long time friend I haven't seen in 20 years. I missed photos of the main entrees enjoying our time and honestly not sure what we ordered as we paid with a kiosk and didn't get a printed receipt even thought I typed in my email.. so that's frustrating with technology. If you want a receipt have it printed before you leave. My friend had a spicy eggplant dish and I had a tofu dish with rice and no fish sauce. Wish I could be more descriptive but can't say without an itemized receipt.. doesn't matter though, was all amazing flavors for both my friend (who travels and has worldly palette, and my self with a broad pallet only within the US) Flavors were amazing and service was on par. I did have an issue at first with the first server saying Pad Thai could be done with tofu and no fish sauce so I was excited, but then the next server said it was already mixed and not able to accommodate, but did find me an alternative I found flavorful with veggies, though missed having the peanuts in my dish. I had Pad See You instead without meat or fish sauce. Service overall was wonderful, attentive and didn't have to wait for anything. They did close and allowed us to stay on the patio visiting long after. Would be happy to return again.. I didn't ask about validating my parking and then they closed, so that was a bummer but my bad.. do check when you arrive and see if they can validate to help with a hefty parking cost $20 for us but hung out longer than most..
