Usually there's a wait for Friday and weekend evenings. Service is good and cocktails are well crafted. Parking can be challenging during busy times. Nice date night atmosphere. - Calamari: it's ok, could be crunchier, for the price I'd expect more. I like the sauce. - Garlic noodles: meh, personally prefer thicker more textured noodles. This feels like something I can make from prepackaged and throw on some garnish for $5 or less. - Lamb: HELL YES, this is what I come here for. The flavour, the texture, the presentation, with some rice *chef's kiss* - Tea leaf salad: very yummy. They offer to mix it for you which I appreciate. - Skillet shrimp: pretty good, but it had been a bit over from time to time. The Alameda location has outdoor seating, which I'm not crazy about because the ground is uneven and it's cold. What can I say that hasn't already been said? The string beans are the BEST EVER. Seriously how do you even make something so simple taste SOOOO good?! We also got the sesame chicken which is phenomenal plus 2 sides of rice. (Don't forget to order rice if you want it, as dinner items don't automatically come with it! I believe lunch does tho, I can't remember) The portions were GENEROUS. We got take-out, and it was enough for my friend and I for the next 2.5 meals, seriously. At first I thought the prices were a little high but then I realized how generous the portions were and it's totally, totally justified! I am someone who is a big fan of the food here and will always say that the drinks and food are out of this world! Unfortunately, I recently visited this place and they had a fly infestation!!! We were sat next to the window and there were so many small and large flies around our table that they flew all around us, our drinks and landed on our food. When we asked to speak to a manager, they sent the host to us instead. We were told that the fly problem is some thing they're trying to deal with but there's nothing they can really do. We were moved outside which made us feel a bit better about not having to swat flies while we eat. But honestly there's no way to tell if those flies were still touching our food before it made it outside to our table. When the bill came, they took off one of our appetizers which was a nice gesture but honestly they should've done more. I'm disgusted and I definitely won't be back because bugs in my food is not something I play with! read more

Every-time we have guests visiting we come here as lot of other states don't have halal Burmese food. This is a great date night or group of friends type place. There always a long wait. But dnt forget they have a waitlist on Yelp to help save time. The food is always food, but they do tend to run out of their tea leave salad towards the end of the night. Every time I walk down main street Alameda I *always* see this place poppin'. I finally made my way in and ordered the pork curry. The food is delicious! I hadn't had Burmese food and this tasted very flavorful. It did seem odd to me that I would need to order rice or platha as an addition side -- I wasn't totally sure what to eat my curry on but maybe that's how it's just eaten! Additionally, that platha was SO GOOD! And there mangolasi is very creamy, too. read more

Absolutely enjoyed every dish we ordered: - Platha and Dip (5/5): the dip is the star of the show! the dip is a coconut chicken curry, super rich flavor, it goes perfectly with the platha which is on the chewy side. my only complaint is the portion size is a bit small for $15 - Sesame Beef (4/5): the beef is rather sweet which is not what I expected but it was still very delicious! flavor kind of reminds me of Panda Express beef - Chicken with Mint Leaves (4.5/5): the mint flavor is subtle but just enough to come through and enhance the flavor! there's really not much other ingredients, just chicken and spices so it will go great with rice. mint isn't a common flavor I have with meat so I really enjoyed this! - Garlic Noodles with Shrimp (5/5): as a noodle lover, this was perfect! the noodles are flat and super thin, very nice texture and chew. the garlic flavor is just right without being overpowering and the fresh onion, cucumber, and green onion garnished on top adds great extra flavor and crunch. it also comes with a sweet sauce on the side, I personally didn't add much of it since I preferred it more garlicky than sweet Overall, the food is well flavored and delicious, just on the slightly expensive side. 1 appetizer, 2 entrees and 1 noodle came out to be $80+ before tax/tips. Poor dinner experience here. They didn't have their much hyped tea leaf salad which was completely understandable. Supply chain issues abound nowadays and they were upfront about it. My go to place for the Shrimp and Eggplant with Garlic Sauce- love this because it's a hint of spice but also sweet and sour (vinegar). I'd eat this with white or coconut rice! Chicken curry (yellow) is very smooth and tasty as well. Chicken Platha- delicious! The naan or bread it comes with is just a little oily, but that's how it is. Don't forget to get some Burmese Milk Tea (hot). The iced one waters down quick and loses its taste. I've had iced elsewhere and it does not water down like here. The food was pretty good. Garlic noodles were not the best. It's probably the worst item we got. But worst of all, the host forgot to seat us. Our wait time was 11 to 35 minutes. We were only 3rd in line. We waited for almost an hour for our table. The only reason why we got seated is because I asked the host where we were in line. I noticed the whole line in front of us got seated before us. And when in checked, We were out of the que. It seems like they skipped us. We were waiting next to the restaurant the whole time. In the front of the business next door, to be out of the the way from the waiters. We never got a notice we were next, and by the time we did get seated, the que was completely gone. Pro tip - don't dress up to eat here!! These are the clumsiest servers I've ever experienced. More butterfingers than the wide receivers on Raiders, and everyone is acting like it's the 4th quarter down by a touchdown with a 25 seconds on the clock. These servers are not trained well and CRACK under pressure -- can't even handle a Monday night dinner service. Dropped spoons, spilled drinks. I found a huge curry stain on the BACK of my sweater (can't get it out). These guys lift messy plates OVER your head with sauce pouring all over you. Really bad service. Food is overpriced for sure. Appetizers are Ok. Meat dishes were dry and over salted. Burma superstar should never have expanded because the quality and service is horrendous from what made the original location great over a decade ago. The mix of flavors and textures from the fermented tea leaves, crunchy peanuts, and tangy dressing was an explosion of taste. I also the garlic noodles with shrimp. These noodles were cooked just right, with a perfect balance of savory garlic and a hint of heat. They complemented the curry and salad beautifully and were the perfect end to a fantastic meal. Every time I hear the name of this restaurant chain I channel Mary Catherine Gallagher, the awkward, bespectacled Catholic schoolgirl that Molly Shannon played on SNL, jump down on one knee with my arms raised Evita-style and yell out, "Superstar!" I almost did it when Jamie W. and I recently passed by the usually packed Alameda location on Park Street. Amazingly there was no crowd during the lunch hour on this particular Saturday afternoon, so I thought we should seize the day and grab two empty seats at the counter. I remember when Burma Superstar had just its one location on Clement, and it was such a hot spot among the Yelperati. Now there are six locations if you also count Burma Love, Burma Club, and B*Star, as well as a multitude of lookalike Burmese spots, all selling their own version of tea leaf salad replete with the preparation choreography. We, however, didn't go for the table side entertainment and went straight to their lunch specials menu. Jamie and I both ordered the $15 Samusa Soup with Tea Leaf Salad (photo: http://bit.ly/2QLLnk3). Yep, it was your standard soup & salad combo by way of Rangoon. It was a delicious vegetarian treat as the soup consisted of a flavorful broth populated with samusas, falafels, lentils, cabbage, onions, and garlic. This place has a line out the door for a reason! My friend and I have been here before and loved our experience, and came back in the late afternoon, close to their closing time, but they were kind enough to still seat us. We ordered an entree each, a Thai iced coffee, and 2 sides of rice (jasmine and coconut). It was a cold, rainy day here in Oakland so I went for the pumpkin curry to warm me up, and my friend ordered the mango chicken stir fry. I love the depth of flavor that is offered in each dish. Very creamy, perfectly cooked pumpkin, paired with the jasmine rice. And the mango stir fry, a lovely balance of spicy and sweet with the coconut rice. The servers were also very attentive and helpful in suggesting dishes and attending to us during our visit. I couldn't resist the cookbooks when I saw them next to the bar! I love the story, the history, the beautiful photos and of course the recipes. I'm planning to try a recipe this week! I'm looking forward to having more meals here in the future! read more

Omg ! Not sure how they managed to have such shitty food . Even the grocery store frozen food is better than their food . I was super hungry so decided to stop by here . I ordered mango lassi cocktail , samusa and spicy noodles after the servers recommendation. Let me tell you the only thing that was barely edible was the cocktail . The samusa tasted like they were frozen and heated up . The potatoes were uncooked and tasteless . The Spicy noodles with chicken had 3 pieces of chicken and such horrible taste . There was no flavor and tasted like someone mixed paste of dried green leaves in my food . That was the only flavor and I left literally 90 percent of the food and server didn't even bother to ask why I left everything . The only reason I ate the ten percent was because I was very hungry . We really loved the food and service!! Admittedly came late on a Saturday night - I think 30 mins before closing. They were very accommodating and sat us right away and served us quickly but didn't rush us. Very kind! Everything we ordered was so delicious and flavorful. Asian food can tend to be salty and this wasn't at all! A few of my favorites... Samusas were good - perfectly crispy with a really complimentary sauce. Mango salad was yummy!! All the different ingredients made it unique and I enjoyed the different textures and flavors. Loved the garlic noodles. The egg noodle texture was perfect, lots of garlic and good shrimp. Couldn't get enough of the mint chicken and now want to try making it at home.
