I had water damage from an overflowing toilet tank (upper floor), which dripped into the bottom bathroom. When the tile was removed for inspection for damages, asbestos was discovered on the glue used to tile the floor. Jerry (Gerardo Camacho) and his co-worker from Burns Environmental Services removed all the tile and the underlying damaged area. Both gentlemen were professional and respectful. Jerry was clear in his communications on what he found and followed up with the project manager, Tommy Lazano. They sealed the area, removed toilet, door and cleaned up the area as well as the surrounding areas. Their work started at 9 a.m. and completed their removal by 1 p..m. Guillermo Duran was excellent, but the company as a whole could benefit from better communication. I was expecting service to start on 3/8 and no one reached out to me until that day at 12:52 PM. I even emailed a couple of the reps in the office earlier that morning with no response. Apparently, my original Project Manager (Ryan Alsup) left the company and no one gave me a heads up until Guillermo called me the day of. My homeowner's insurance was billed over 9 thousand dollars for the demolition of the tile and others in my home. According to my contractor tasked with rebuilding, the garbage disposal was tossed and I had to buy a new one. Also, the brick around my tile was cracked. Today, I found out that my custom-made wooden shudders are also damaged, which will cost me more money to repair. This company was careless in removing cabinets that needed to be rebuilt and threw everything in an outside patio versus using the garage area, which would have been ideal. I sent an email recently about the damaged brick and garbage disposal. I have yet to get a reply. Today, I emailed about my damaged wooden custom shudders. We will see if they can reply now that they have collected over 9 thousand dollars from the insurance company. The rating is a one because they have failed to follow through with the damage nor did a professional inspect and find that damage that has been done. We were referred to this company by a water restoration contractor. We needed to have some drywall removed because it tested positive for asbestos. We needed to removed for the water restoration work as well as a plumbing job we were doing. We met with Ruben from Burns on Thursday afternoon. We told him that we needed the work done (at least the upstairs portion) by Tuesday morning to accommodate the plumbers. He said that they could come out on Monday and have at least the upstairs done by Tuesday morning. "Great" I thought and told him let's do it. He said he would contact our insurance provider and get the ball rolling. On Friday I reached out asking about the timing for Monday and didn't get a response from Ruben. He finally contact me Monday morning saying he was waiting to hear from the insurance company. After reaching out to the insurance company it turns out he never submitted the request. I then work with the insurance company to speed up the approval to get this going. All the while I am letting Ruben know that I am trying to get this done quickly so he can start the work that day (Monday). He made no mention that Monday would not be possible, but didn't commit to a time either. Once it hit 1pm on Monday I got a bad feeling so I contacted the company directly. The first guy who answered the phone sounded like he just woke up. I asked to speak with someone in management and he sent me to Terri. I got her voicemail that had another number which I called. The next guy I spoke to sounded equally medicated and transferred me to Terri. After some back and forth I find out that Ruben should have never promised that timeline to me. She then said she would contact him and he would call me which never happened. I then had to call the plumber to postpone. Not only did Ruben's unprofessional lack of consideration for my time negatively impacted me it also impacted the plumber and the restoration companies as well. If he couldn't make the timeline and told me that on Thursday it would've been fine as I could have made other arrangements and set expectations with the other parties involved. Instead he lacked that consideration and carelessly wasted the time of all involved. I will never work with this company and hope no one else falls for Ruben's false promises read more

Unlike most negative reviews for asbestos abatement companies, my chief complaint has nothing to do with the cosmetic damage left behind following the whole process of having the popcorn ceiling removed from 4 of our rooms. I anticipated the need for repairs/ paint afterwards. My concern has to do with the clean up and complete removal of hazardous material. When we moved into our home a few days following the containment being pulled down, we found white powder in the window sills, on the backs of door knobs, and white smears all over the bedroom walls. I didn't know if the substance was asbestos based or not, so I reached out to our project manager and he sent someone to our home with a HEPA vacuum and some ammonia based spray to do some additional cleaning. Over the next day or so we continued to run into things like old smoke detectors that had acoustic material on them that had been left on the kitchen/ bathroom counter tops, as well as lighting fixtures that had been yanked out of the ceilings with acoustic material still on them. Why not wipe them down? Or at least call us to find out if we were okay with just disposing of them. We also found an extremely dirty, worn down sponge on the master bathroom sick and I'm wondering if that was the sponge used to wipe the walls down (why not just throw it away?). We passed an air clearance test prior to the removal of the containment, which seemed pointless a month later when a chandelier was removed and a handful of the acoustic material they'd scrapped off came down with it. I've included a picture showing how the chandelier had been bagged with the top plate left exposed and it ended up collecting the acoustic material. $5500 gone, only to be left wondering if we were exposed to stuff we shouldn't have been. I wasn't planning on leaving a bad review, but after receiving multiple requests from the company to take a survey, I finally wrote them back directly and told them about the items above. To my surprise, I received a call from the owner of the company assuring me they took my concerns seriously and that he would watch the video footage that was taken of our job and would let me know what he found. That was over 2 months ago and I haven't heard back. read more

I had a mold issue in a property that I own and was dealing with my insurance company. I figured BES must have been a reliable company and affordable if the insurance company used them. After the insurance company was done collecting their information, I contacted Caleb at BES. Caleb said he would provide me with a great rate but that he had to check with his boss because my property needed a scaffold. For the next week and a half I continued to call Caleb, sometimes twice a day. He initially said the boss was out of town, then the boss was returning at 3pm. There was always some excuse. And he always promised to call me back with a quote, but never did. I left my number multiple times with him. After a week and half of calling/talking to Caleb and not getting a quote, I've given up on Burns Environmental Services. What a complete waste of my time! read more

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! Had unexpected (is it ever expected!!?) water damage from neighbor's condo. My insurance (Amica - love them) assigned Burns Environmental (love them now also) to handle testing and abatement (1965 building - I had no idea old drywall may contain asbestos!). Their representative Mr Mark Hollister came to my property ASAP and coordinated all the work, including sending a special company to test all areas for lead and asbestos and assigning a work crew (lovely father/son duo) to remove and dry out the damaged areas and all the follow-up. Mr Hollister was available at all times to answer my questions, whether my text, phone or email. I was able to contact him at all times of day and even weekends. He coordinated the job quickly and at my convenience. The work crew did my unit and the neighbor's unit. We live at a small 19 unit condo complex, and the workers were extremely polite and kind and professional with all the neighbors and took extreme care that no debris or materials impacted the pathways or endangered our kids or pets in the building. All work and cleanup was done with the highest professionalism. I AM EXTREMELY PLEASED AND GRATEFUL for all their empathy and understanding (we just could not believe this happened and walls had to come down, etc.) and their prompt and seamless handling of everything! read more

First off, I rarely give yelp reviews but I hope this saves someone else a huge headache and disappointment. We selected Burns for our abatement because they were recommended by our realtor and because of the great reviews. I wish I had read Tariq's review before hiring them because we had a very similar experience. The contract specified that they are not responsible for damage to walls and doors, which I understand BUT putting duck tape on freshly refinished hardwood floors (without asking first) is absolutely negligent and not necessary for safety as they claim. The workers also admitted to using the wrong tape and even another supervisor returned to inspect the damage. He apologized and agreed that it was their error and made me believe they would fix the damage. Sadly, our claim was denied and no other effort to remedy their mistake was made. Overall, very bad experience and poor communication. Thanks for giving us an even more expensive mess to clean up! Update: They have never tried to reach out to me because of this review. The only reason I'm not giving one star is because the employees who came out to do the physical work at my house were very professional, nice, and competent. The rest of my experience was terrible. I used Burns to clean black mold from my HVAC unit after a sewage backup caused damage to my downstairs bathroom area. My HOA paid for all repairs because the damage was caused by a communal pipe. The project manager tried to press for me to pay the $2000 bill and submit it to my HOA because that would have been less complicated for Burns. I was adamant that Burns and my HOA work it out because I was not going to float the bill. Burns then sent me a contract to sign that would have me responsible for the bill. I did not sign it and had to be firm that they contact my HOA. Despite the fact that the project is completed I'm still getting email reminders almost daily for me to sign the contract, even though I've contacted the office specifically asking them to stop emailing me the reminders. When the project was finally close to starting the project manager told me it would take 4 days. It was scheduled to start on a Friday, then canceled, and without any communication the employees were at my house on Monday morning to start the work. By chance I had the day off so at least I was home to let them in. The entire project took about 6 hours. There seems to be some issues with management and communication in the company, but I had a good experience with the people who came out to my house. read more

We had an asbestos issue at one of our projects in La Quinta, CA and needed some help. Upon speaking with Jose, our sales rep. (who was great), the job was on the schedule. All things fair, I have to say that their actual work was excellent. All the walls, ceiling, etc. was removed properly. There was a miscommunication between the utility company and myself. Long story short, there was no power. One of my guys dropped off a generator and was full of gas and oil (we like to be prepared). He specifically told the crew member to keep an eye on the oil level because this type of generator uses more oil for some reason. Upon receiving the generator back, one of Burn's own guys stated that there was no oil left. This lead to the unit not able to stay on for more than 30 seconds. Jesse called after about three weeks (and no payment) to "get more information." I gladly explained the situation and he immediately got defensive and kept saying "I just want to get the facts." Note: when you're tone is aggressive and you're making passive/aggressive comments, you're not getting more information and alienating your customers. The generator cost $400 and they're refunding only $200. In summary, great work, but unprofessional management who won't work with you if there's an issue. read more
