This was my favorite branch and burnt toast food was always tasty. However I no longer come here due to very poor service and I even expressed that on my last visit the weekend before Thanksgiving. I told her to give me the transparent plastic one while poiting at the sourcream container I said the bigger of this. She said its not much bigger it wouldnt fit. I guess she was too lazy to go back. I said Im always here to order the same food, in the same container for years and it would fit there just fine. Upon hearing this she knew I was too familiar with their containers and wont be able to lie to me anymore. So she just shrugged and left then brought back the container I asked for which fit "PERFECTLY" like it always have over the years. Not only are they taking covid precautions, the food and service was great. Like other reviewers have stated, they have excellent coffee. The server was constantly checking on me to see if I needed a refill. She was quick to take order and food came out fast. They have dividers between booths. Menus have a qr scanner. Extra safety by using prepackaged condiments so all consumers don't have to touch bottles. I highly recommend the french toast. I had the regular and my friend had the stuffed. Based on the reviews, it seems people love it. While being in the area, I wanted to try it. It's good, but nothing impressive, out of this world, or anything different. Standard breakfast and lunch menus from traditional to healthy and standard choices like eggs, omelettes, crepes and sandwiches. I had the Florentine Benedicts and they are absolutely nothing to brag about. It's loaded with spinach which is all you taste because the biscuits disintegrated under them. Not only that but there's fresh tomato that tastes awful when warm. There's a bitterness from the heaps of spinach and then a mess from the egg yolks. We tried the caramel pecan crepes also loaded with too much pecan filling for their thickness but those do taste great. The service was great, pleasant and quick. read more

WOrST MANAGER EVER!!!! Went for Breakfast today with my husband and 4 kids. The waitress was very short & rude. Forgot drinks and one of my children's pancakes when reminded , she immediately got an attitude . Food was good but we were charged a tip on top of tax without letting us know. The waitress obviously knew she was getting a big tip no matter the service. While paying I objected to the $14 tip being added on the bill after tax. The manager told me he can do whatever he wants. He said I don't care if you never come back to eat here again. I return an order of french toast that had raw egg to the server, the manager then came back yelling and on my face he told me I'm not deducting this out of your bill. I never even asked for that, he never offered to remake the food or replace it with something else. Food has always been good , cooking, busboy dishwashing all do great. Service depends on the person you are placed at there service section has been poor service for me several times. I did communicate with a manager and after over a week there response was no one working here that description and she has been watching and doesn't see any problems. I have a handicap and it seems like staff is more interested in which server is next for the customer so I walk to the back of the restaurant, not once but several times. I wanted to update my review since in the past two years I've become a regular and have tried 90% of their menu items. Firstly, the restaurant is typically busy on a daily basis. During the week there is never usually a wait, but early mornings/afternoons on the weekend there is sometimes a short wait (I never had to wait for more than 20 minutes). It's a cozy and very friendly environment, although when it's busy, it can be quite loud. From the hosts to the servers, we are always treated like family and I don't think I've ever been to a restaurant/diner with better staff. Not one negative experience ever. Service is always above par, and I'm never left with a coffee or drink that is less than half full. You can tell that it's a positive working environment as the servers are always helping each other out (great team work). The coffee is good. They have their own special blend created for their restaurant. It's a light, mild roast, which my husband absolutely loves, but it's not really my favorite. (This is completely a preference-based thing, but I'm a coffee snob, and I like bolder coffee.) It is always hot and fresh though. Their daily soups are all great. A couple of my favorites are the stuffed pepper and cream based selections (especially the Sunday cream of chicken). Highly recommend. As far as the food, it's pretty consistent. The eggs are good quality and are fresh, and the hash browns are shredded and crisp - never greasy. The skillets are excellent. My favorite is the veggie skillet. They also have good bacon, so whether you get it mixed in with your eggs, on the side or in a BLT, or club, it will be good. It's slightly thick with a good crisp. The pancakes are amazing, and something I think this restaurant excels in. The classic pancakes are really light, fluffy and cakey. They also have multi-grain, which are far better than most restaurants whole wheat/multigrain cakes. The crunch cakes are sooo good (oats, pecans and dried cranberries in the batter). Also their seasonal pumpkin pancakes are another favorite of mine. The French toast and waffles are also very good and would recommend. Also, it's hard to find good gyros in the area, and I have to say that Burnt Toast has some of the best gyros. It's good quality and always has a nice crisp - no soggy gyros here! They also have a great philly steak with good quality sliced sirloin. Also, if you have a taste for steak, the ribeye is very flavorful and thin. They have a small menu for lunch, including a nice selection of salads. When I want to up my veggie intake, I like getting the spinach chicken salad which is LOADED with baby spinach. My only qualm is the salad dressings. They are all boring flavored, pre-made dressings and taste like it too. A suggestion to BT would be to PLEASE whip up your own salad dressings!! They would make the salads much more enjoyable! I also kind of wish that I loved their crepes more. Don't get me wrong, they are good, but, crepes are one of my favorite breakfast foods. I've tried them around 3-5 times and I feel like they are missing a little something. The crepes are very thin and delicate with a slight crisp, which is great! They are always cooked perfectly! They aren't sloppy or too eggy tasting like some diners. The batter would easily mix well with savory crepe dishes (would go good with chicken, etc, than a sweet dessert crepe that goes good with fruit preserves) and when I want fruit crepes, I'm always wishing that they would toss a little more sugar or vanilla in the batter. I guess you can say that I like my crepes sweet, and these aren't. All in all, for the area, Burnt Toast is my top breakfast place and it doesn't compare to it's local competitors.. The service was fast and everyone was wearing a mask when serving guests and the tables are distance quite. As soon as we walk in, we were greeted with friendly faces. We were seated right away. Place was pretty packed. We were greeted by our server Alyssa. She was very friendly and helpful. For drinks Brie ordered pumpkin spice latte. She said it's ok. I think because there was a bit too much cinnamon for her. I ordered the hazelnut cappuccino. Mine was very good. Not too sweet and I love the foam on top. For breakfast, brie ordered the Cornbeef hash skillet with sunny side up eggs. She loved it. She said it's better than another restaurant she goes to. Portion is huge so she only ate half. I ordered the veggie skillet with turkey sausage added and because I wanted to try the pumpkin spice pancake. My meal was delicious. My eggs were cooked just right. Now for the pumpkin pancakes. They were delish but I didn't put any syrup since it was already sweet for my taste. I like my pancakes a bit in the crispy side so it could have been cooked a bit more. Again, portions are huge so I only ate half of my pancakes and skillet. I tried Burnt Toast Restaurant in Elgin for breakfast. Started off with a specialty coffee while exploring the fairly large menu items. I read the description for Lemon Crepes: "These wonderful handmade, wafer-thin French pancakes are delicately filled with a fresh, light, sweet and creamy lemon filling." Their marketing verbiage of sweet and creamy lemon filling had me hooked! They came out looking great! I was excited; until I ate my first bite. I was shocked to find a "yucky" blitz ricotta cheese filling. Not what they advertised or I would not have ordered it. The filling was not sweet, it was chunky ricotta cheese. They did place some lemon custard on top of the crepes. Maybe that's what they meant? Or should have stuffed it with that and simply placed whipped cream on top. Just a suggestion! I did take a second bite to give it a chance but I just couldn't eat it. I'm not a fan of blitz filling. I told the waitress Colleen that the menu was misleading and I do not like ricotta or I wouldn't have ordered it. I asked to have plain crepes with fruit instead. She apologized, though it was not her fault the menu verbiage was misleading. Shortly after she left out table, Victoria (who I learned was the Manager) came by and was very CURT to advise that "we do not exchange orders because one does not like what was ordered and that I'd be charged for it." I told her fine, have it wrapped to go and place my order for plain crepes like I asked. If I'm going to be charged for it I'll take it home. That's fair. Unfortunately, when Colleen came back she apologized and told me she tossed my plate before realizing I was going to ask for it to go. She did go back to Victoria who finally agreed to take it off the bill (vs. making it over so I can take it home). I hope Victoria doesn't charge Colleen for that dish. You never know? So I'm giving a two star ranking for the Manager, Victoria's service. Victoria never gave me an opportunity to explain the misleading menu (constructive criticism for a restaurant) or did she apologize for her approach in the subject. Colleen on the other hand stepped up to resolve the situation as best as she was able to. I also was told by a check out host that if I pay a cash tip the waitress receives the full tip, if it's on a charge it is split with the bus-boys/(girls). I didn't have cash in me which was just too bad because I would have gave her a bigger tip. She deserved 100% of it. I did finally received my plain crepes with strawberry compote. They were not as good as the Golden Skillets crepes. Those are still hands-down the best! I also ordered bacon; which was thick and yummy. I was seated at the entrance so I have no idea how the decor or atmosphere of the restaurant was. Only saw people coming and going. Nor did I use the restroom to check the cleanliness of it. Came here for breakfast before my sister's wedding with a large group. We were able to be seated right away in a nice private room. The service was super attentive and my niece spilled milkshakes and water, which was all promptly taken care of. All the food was decent, I would say under seasoned at best. We tried skillets, omelettes, French toast, pancakes, and my sister in law had a wrap. I think the food is overpriced and the Bloody Mary is super small for $8. My husband and i both said we weren't impressed with food , but then I found a hair in food . I immediately stopped eating and i told waiter , his reply "oh my ." We went to pay and i was aaked if all was ok and I said No , I found a hair in my food and he didn't seem to care either . So , i asked for manager , she came up and basically accused me of putting hair in there . She told me it was a long hair and none of her kitchen help had long hair . Prior to arriving here at 2pm with my lunch mate on her way, I wasn't aware that they are only open until 2:30. Luckily though, most of the staff made this quite clear by sweeping the floors while we were sitting right there and rushing us through our meal. Our waitress was friendly enough, but didn't seen to be paying attention to requests like ordering something on the side or needing more time to decide. I thought my meal was decent, and served in way-large portions. My veggie omelette was tasty and the pancakes were good, but my hash browns were almost hash blacks.. I guess "burnt" is not just part of their name. My lunch mate's sandwich did not come out as ordered, so she barely ate it. She also commented that the bread (on a Reuben) was practically dripping from the butter they smeared on it, and she was pretty much disgusted by it. The digs were nice enough, but some of the tables are located so close to the entryway that you might as well be sitting out in the waiting area. The bathrooms were unremarkable. It felt like the AC was running on high, even though it was barely 60 outside. Nothing about this place excited me. I'd go back only if it was suggested by someone I was with.
