The staff was cleaning up because it was 10 minutes past closing time but they still let us in to order take-out. Me at a Burrito Beach? Even when I checked in on Yelp someone thought I had taken a wrong turn given my usual Mexican fare tends to be a little more upscale. And I had some trepidation as I pushed through the door as this didn't look like a place that I was going to like. But I have to say that I was impressed on this visit at the freshness of the food, the wide array of choices and the friendliness of the staff and manager (owner?) I was in the mood for a salad bowl and I saw that they had Mexican quinoa which is also a good source of protein. While the serving size of quinoa was quite small- the other condiments that filled my bowl were quite robust from the mixed greens, to the mixed veggies, to the guacamole with big chunks of avocado, and the spicy salsa this was one tasty bowl of food. And as I went to the condiment bar to get a fork and knife, the manager asked if I had found everything okay and was very friendly and personable. The seats were clean, the price was right and if there had been just a smidge more quinoa, this would have gotten a perfect score. Sometimes in the heart of Downtown it may be a little harder than it would seem to find a quick spot you can pop in and grab a bite that isn't one of the major chains you think of. The inside was very clean, well-lit and spacious, definitely better than feeling claustrophobic while trying to eat burritos. I actually ended up going with a Quesadilla and had chicken as my feeling. They let you choose everything that goes into whichever item you choose and I loved that they had a lot more options than some of their competitors. I filled quesadilla to my heart's content and grabbed a Jarritos as well. The food was great and it also came with some chips and salsa FO FREE, who doesn't like that. Over the past five or so years, this areas become kind of gritty. The Seven-Eleven across the street is on the Homeless Alcoholic's map of Chicago. My husband was randomly craving a burrito in the morning and this was right across the street from our hotel. Surprised, this place was good!!! In the morning, they only have breakfast items (egg, ham, or chorizo) and a steak burrito. We went with a steak burrito. The ladies were so nice there! They were making sure we'd be happy with our orders. So it's kinda like a Moe's/Chipotle style. Where you order your main protein and pick the toppings you want in your burrito. We had cheese, lettuce, sour cream, rice, and guacamole. And boy. That guacamole in that burrito was fireeeee. So delicious. I was surprised! The steak was good. Very tasty and tender. They have a variety of hot sauce you can use. I like the chipotle hot sauce with it. Complimented it very well in my opinion. This place is very random, but I enjoyed my steak burrito there. Made fresh to order and the ordering process is fast and efficient. Inside the have standards and high tables very spacious place , but only one restroom for male/female. After a morning run along the lakeshore, I was in the mood for breakfast. Imagine my surprise to find a place that serves breakfast burritos in downtown Chicago. I paced in front of the door waiting for it to open at 8:00 a.m. As I entered, I noticed that the interior was well-organized and immaculately clean. The serving line was efficient, the staff was friendly and knowledgeable, and the selections all appeared very fresh. I went with egg & bacon (a little disappointed they don't offer breakfast sausage) with onions and jalapeno. The accompanying red and green sauces looked new and professionally-made. The burrito was toasted and piping hot as I unwrapped it. The eggs were fluffy, the bacon moist and flavorful, and the onions & jalapenos piquant and zesty. Reading the Chicago Tribune sports section and eating a world class burrito? A little slice of heaven in the bustle of the big city. The final piece of class I encountered at Burrito Beach was a staff member smiling and thanking me as I walked out of the establishment.
