Man, this stretch of Inkster Rd in Garden City is becoming a foodie's fantasy land. Tacos, Chinese, BBQ brisket, Senegalese, gourmet halal burgers, Lebanese, Kaak sandwiches...living around here is more delicious than ever. This halal Mexican spot has a lovely mural decor and a pleasant dining room. The staff is warm, kind and courteous...big plus! And the food was fresh. I loved LOVED the crispy taquito rolls appetizer. The Tex-Mex and Street Tacos with halal beef and halal beef chorizo with fresh cilantro, onion, tomato and with spicy salsa were quite delicious. I would recommend they offer more crunchy, crispy items as those taquitos and sauce toppings are what I'm really remembering with fondness and they were unique in the best way possible. Reviewing because it's my duty as a Mexican Muslim to inform people that this place is simply not it. The food wasn't completely terrible, I guess it's what you expect to get in the Midwest which means it was simply mid. The "spicy" flavor was left to be found. The meat was alright. I got a burrito, my friend got birria tacos. Story of my disappointing service: I walk up to the counter & asked for an Horchata (ofc with a Spanish accent because that's how you properly pronounce it) and the lady at the counter looked at me in the most confused way possible. Immediately then I knew it was a bad place. I then proceeded to say it in an American accent only to be disappointed by the fact that they don't even have that. The most BASIC DRINK any "Mexican" place has is either Horchata and Jamaica and they have neither. I got "chile" with my burrito, but received borderline water. I must say, I have driven passed this place a million times and have friends who eat from here but I've never once thought to try it myself. I'll admit I only came here because I had a hard time finding other Mexican places to get my Taco Tuesday fix on my way home. But I was thankful to find it because I ended up having as very satisfying meal. Got a combination of hard and soft tacos all seasoned very well and the sides were basic items you would get at any similar restaurant. But they have a special sauce called the corzon (probably misspelled it) which is really good and I highly recommend you ask for it. I was pretty excited about this place, I ordered a steak burrito, for some reason the lettuce they put inside tasted weird it tastes like the lettuce was old and not fresh at all. The steak aspect of the burrito was more like beef cooked normally. I've had a steak burrito but this was not the best.. the ingredients did not taste fresh to me. I felt like as if I had left the burrito in the fridge for 5 days and then heated it. The chips and salsa was okay nothing special. I may come back and try to give this place a chance and try something else.. but I maybe hesitant. I photographed a few of Alexander's dishes for Doordash today. I also had the opportunity to enjoy the beef mountain nachos and the steak burrito. So good!! After getting to know the owner Alexander, I learned that he was chef at the great Detroit Athletic Club and came in 7th place out of 200 contestants at the OUNCE national Barbecue competition. This annual competition hoss the likes of Sweet Baby Rays and and Famous Dave's Barbecue. He is really talented in the kitchen. He fuses authentic mexican ingredients with an American twist. He chose to make it Halal (no pork) to satisfy the Muslim population in the area, but he attracts all folks from near and far. The portions are good too. You need to check this place out. Bad attitude and bad food. Make sure to ask for a receipt to make sure you are not over charged. Whenever we go there, they have a sign on the restroom door saying that it's out of order. They said that this is the city's fault because the city is working on roads so they don't have any water. If they don't have water then it's clear that they are using dirty dishes and grill. They took our order and charge us for an extra item and when we asked for refund they said that we have to wait 24 hours before they issue the refund for $12.00 (our total was $160). The girl there had a very shitty attitude. The food was full of salt, and when we complained they asked us which ingredient in our food was more saltish which was a stupid question. I think most taco places taste somewhat similar. What distinguishes them is the freshness of the meat. Yes the meat is halal but for those of you who don't eat halal it means it's clean and fresh. Like Monday there was a young lady taking orders and a young man making the food. Both had mask on. So today the man who took my order proceeds to make my food. No mask no gloves. Then the young man that made my food Monday comes from the back with no mask. A customer comes in and he doesn't have a mask on either. So I look in the back and no one has a mask on.
