Stumbled across this restaurant while looking for food on our way back to Canton. I'm not from the area so I was taking a gamble on this one especially given some of the reviews and lack of reviews. I have visited twice now and unfortunately couldn't justify taking pictures of my food since I was with co workers. But I tried the chicken enchiladas and the lunch taco trio with two pastor and one asada. I would recommend the pastor since the cut of beef for asada seemed like ground beef I make at home. Overall the flavor is pretty good at La Salsa but I've had very good Mexican food so it takes a bit to really impress me. The rice and beans are good sides to take home and I can still get 1-2 meals out of them by adding my own cooking to it. It's not overly greasy or salty which is something I always appreciate. The protein portions could be improved by at least .5x. The ladies are always very nice and overall it's a cute small business. read more

Wowed! Fantastic corn tacos (two Lomo and two Al Pastor) loaded with cilantro and onion, accompanied by grilled onions and jalapeño, and slices of cucumber and radish. Served with rice and charro beans. Al Pastor tacos were great, but the Lomo tacos were the star of the show. Lomo tacos are a cross between Cochinita Pibil (my favorite taco from the Yucatán) and Al Pastor tacos. This is the only place that I know that serves Lomo tacos. The charro beans are in a league of their own. I could eat a big bowl of these beans and be very happy. Rice was great too. Also had great service. Need to visit again soon. read more

Hands down the best tacos Al pastor in Detroit! I've tried several restaurants/food trucks in southwest Detroit and nothing beats the al pastor at La Salsa -not even close. This restaurant sits in the center of an industrial area and does not offer any frills, however, the food is too notch, affordable, and will not leave you disappointed! The people who left negative reviews clearly don't appreciate and understand what authentic Mexican food is, they should probably just stick to Qdoba. The food here is very authentic and good, being from Arizona I'm a harsh critic of Mexican food. My issues are with order accuracy (been 3x now and order never correct whether I order in English or Spanish right at the window face-to-face). The speaker at drive thru doesn't work yet no sign so you sit there forever to order and when you drive to windows again, a long wait. They suggest you call order in ahead of time but always goes to a full voice mail. On my visit yesterday I noticed that they have raised prices significantly again. $11.95 for just a plain burrito the size of a Taco Bell burrito?!? Totally not worth it! Also, they charge you a debit card fee of $2 which isn't posted anywhere as policy. Think I'm just going to go back to cooking my own. Sad ​ read more

Yes it's a Hidden Gem in Sw Detroit on the border of Melvindale for decades. Place filled with Mexican families eating the Authentic food from the homeland Jalisco Mexico. Outstanding Delicious Charro Beans, it's the Mexican version of Pinto Beans Mucho better. She had a Beef Birria topped Botona spot on delicious . I ate the whole bowl of Charro Beans best around town, only a few places out of a hundred Mexican restaurants make these. You can purchase all cooked Meats everyday by the pound order half pound, only place that does this around town. I had the Giant Carnitas OMG Burrito listed on the menu, marvelous mega stuffed, couple only eat half. So two meals for me in a Burrito for the win . So this food has the 4th best pollo al carbon that I know in Michigan it's almost at the level of polo loco franchise out of California but still missing the marinade flavor was 4th bit El Rey taqueria burned down. Found another possible go to spot for Taco Tuesday dinners. Got a variety of different tacos and loaded nachos. They are doing carry out and the quality of the food is great. Best salsa I've ever had in my life. I used to go here pretty often with my ex-best friend (before he betrayed me) and order bean burritos. One time they put peppers in my burrito, which made it pretty much inedible (I hate peppers). Probably in the top 3 of worse Mexican food I had. The steak tasted off. The beans are literally from a can and served to you. The rice lack flavor but was the most edible part of my order. My philosophy with Mexican food is that the more "hole in the wall" it looks, the better the food. Granted La Salsa has its own building, this is just about what you expect for a hole in the wall Mexican place. You get free chips and salsa (one hot and one spicy) for appetizers, and both were pretty good. They have plenty of it available, so don't be afraid to order more (which I did). I ordered an XL Dynamite burrito with carne asada, and it lived up to its name. If the burrito weren't cut in half when they served it, I guarantee you'd probably need two hands to carry it. The meat was solid and guacamole on point. Some purists don't like having rice and beans as fillers, but I thought that overall the burrito was a perfect blend of awesomeness (but make sure to add some salsa every few bites). Several coworkers hyped this place up to me, and it didn't disappoint. Full disclosure, I'm from San Diego, which has arguably some of the best burritos in the world. But even from an objective mind, I think most places back home would not only beat La Salsa out at a burrito cookoff, but they may even save you a couple extra bucks. If you check this place out, which I still highly recommend, I suggest you go for something off of their lunch specials, which I've heard are delicious and cheap. Another tiny hole in the wall on the cross section of Oakwood and Dix. This place dishes out nice tacos and other Mexican favorites similar to the Mi Pueblo's and Los Altos. They have all the usual suspects from carnitas, al pastor, chorizo, etc.... Prices feel slightly higher than the other places, but still super cheap. Salsa's are also full flavored. update: Al pastor tacos come out super fast and piping hot. A bit more meat and less topping, but very very good. This place is great! The food is delicious and the prices are good. I've been 3 times so far and plan to definitely keep visiting. I usually get a few tacos with various meats on corn tortillas. So far everything has been delicious. What I really loved is the Al pastor and the Lengua though. The tacos also come with a side of grilled onions and pepper! A few weeks ago I was attending a potluck at a friends house and stopped at La Salsa to pick up some chips and guacamole to bring, this turned out to be a great idea. I went to get powerplany tacos as my coworkers put it because it is located directly across from a powerplant lol. You walk in and the place is less than a minute big having about 10-12 tables max. It definitely isn't a place to linger and is definitely a hole in the wall taco place almost like I've been transported back to Mexico...lil restaurant outside a dusty road surround by a plant...sounds like the desert in Mexico to me when I was working down there...but I digress. We all got the grilled steak tacos aka carne asada tacos in corn tortillas..those were excellent with a bit of salsad and guac on top. The meat was seasoned very well and you could taste the juiciness of the meat. They came with a side rice and beans & grilled jalapenos and onions. These tacos taste way better than Mi Peublos IMO... The guacamole was just regular tasting to me, nothing to rave about. and definitely better at Mi Peublos. The chips were freshly made in house and were very tasty as well with a few sprinkles of salt to give some flavor. Went there for lunch takeout. Got there at 12:30, and wasn't a line. Food was ready in under five minutes, and it was a very good meal. Ordered the 3 taco (marinated pork soft shell) lunch plate with rice and beans, and hot salsa. One of the best tacos I've ever had. Tacos stayed within the norm (lettuce, cheese, tomato), but excelled in every aspect of it. Will be back soon. If you work in Dearborn, great quick lunch option. read more
