This location is in the middle of a fallen portion of the city being right by the biggest drug rehab in the United States. Stay Alert!!! The place is safe and chill, and the best part is their food. I love the chorizo and papa's burrito in the morning or an easy asada with a red and green chile bath. Nice service, clean place, great value for exceptional ingredients. I wanted Mexican food today and didn't wanna travel too far for it. I usually go up the block to Melody's but I wanted to try another place as the same place can get old with your taste buds. I found that this place which was even closer. I've actually been here before but a long time ago (10yrs). I think I remember asking for a chimichanga and the cook made it for me even though it wasn't on the menu. Absolute worst service I've ever gotten from any restaurant. Don't waste your time going here. They gave me the wrong order and tried blaming it on me, refusing to refund or work anything out with me. Very unprofessional and owner gave me such attitude just for asking for something to accommodate my time and gas wasted. They waited 15 mins to call me back saying I had the wrong food. I paid for someone elses order which was twice the price. I checked the receipts to see if it was the right order and of course, the receipt had no information about my order. Work in LA. Love to find a good roadside 'taco' spot. I was driving by hungry so I decided to pull in. I thought maybe I interrupted the most important meeting of all time by the way the two women talking in the back looked at me. I had to greet them by saying hello lol. Well, well well. I was really curious about the reviews regarding service from the lady at the register after my visit, and all I can say is, 'wow!' No surprise that a half dozen other people have mentioned her and I didn't even go that far into the reviews. This was my first, and last time visiting this local spot. I tried a few items just to get a feel for the menu and the food wasn't much better than the service unfortunately. The hardshell tacos are a click up from the tacos at Jack-in-the-Box, but unlike the 2 for $1 Jack-in-the-Box tacos from youth, you'll never crave these tacos again in future. These are equally greasy, but with more meat and less flavor. While the food was par for the course and wouldn't bring me back for a return trip, the arrogant energy from the lady up front is what really brought me here to share with fellow Yelpers in the community. I've been coming to El Chavo for years. I'm not a big fan of Mexican food, but I really like their carne asada burrito and tacos. Made very classic with beans, rice, carne asada, and cilantro (and whatever else that may be in it), everything is evenly distributed so that every bite is delicious. I get it with no spicy sauce. It's always consistently good, particularly when the women of this family owned business prepare it. I've never tried anything else here, so not sure how the other menu items taste. They are located on reseda and Oxnard (next to Baskin Robbins). Their is ample free parking available. read more

Despite being busy the gentleman at the counter was attentive and friendly to everyone! Had sopes and a green burrito! I'd recommend both. Love the burritos. They have an Old recipe I believe from a grandfather in Mexico for the chicken & beef I believe both. Both great (I mostly only get beef now they're chicken tends to have too many onions and peppers in it) It's a family owned spot. It's clean inside service is fast and people are really nice folks. And quality is there! Price is a little high considering few ingredients in they're classic burrito & everything I require in my burritos lol like $1.25 x3-4 things cilantro, rice, cheese salsa tends to run like $17-19a burrito when I'm done; typically each person ringing you up, doesn't quantify the same, so the price does tend to fluctuate often lol. oh and tostada is not a tostada the crispy shell you want, you don't get. Simply because how it's composed they place one crispy on the bottom of the composed delicious saucy meat, beans and veggies basically Theyers a nonexistent crunch because the crunchy tortillas soaks up everything & you don't even see it lol. My girls are still there holding both locations down- their food is so bomb. They're super clean and they've always been extremely friendly to me. I love El Chavo El Chavo has always been our favorite place to pick up Mexican food. I started going to the Sherman Oaks location about 20 years ago and we were happy to find the Reseda location when we moved out this way. Our son loves the asada tacos and we've always gotten the vegetarian burritos "wet" (with the green and red sauce on top) I haven't tried the whole menu but what we have tried, we love. This place is more than just food. In classic LA fashion this family run Mexican restaurant is wedged between an out of business Baskin Robbins and a pop + mom Indian restaurant in an unassuming, almost overlooked strip mall in the San Fernando Valley. I've been coming here (and the Valley Village location) since I was a kid so I'm obviously biased but I will say they have perfected the beauty of simplicity: the ability to extract all superfluous elements and focus only on precisely what is needed to communicate flavor and texture. Similar to the outward appearance of the location, the food is unpretentious yet inviting. The interior decor of the restaurant feels as authentic as the carne asada. A place for any passerby Angeleno of any color or background to stumble in off the street and greet destiny. The staff is warm but in the kind of way an old grandfather war vet might be; a stoic and formidable being whose trust and respect you must earn to gain access to the true experience of what it means to be human. Sorry I'm kinda of rambling about the people here bc they are in part what make this place outstanding. Back to the food-- it's better than good. I usually get a carne asada burrito wet no beans add rice with a hard shell chicken taco. I've been ordering this now for the last 5-7 years; some of my best friends who have also been going to this place for over 20+ years have their own orders bc there is no one right choice here-- each persons specific order becomes an extension of who we are as people. The food is like the porridge from Goldilocks and the three bears-- the one that's just right. There is not too much or too little of anything in each bite. The food has been perfected over generations and now in 2018 customers consume the accumulation of so much hard work, creativity and love for the food and the people that eat it. I can't come here without being flooded by both hope and sadness. Hope that there are still people out there beyond the distractions of life who still care to do good for the sake of doing it.
