Decent food. Burton's Grill was bustling when we visited on a Saturday night and had a pleasant ambiance set by the dim lighting. I tried a sazerac, short rib grilled cheese, and sweet potato fries. The sazerac was too sweet and served with a single ice cube instead of neat as the menu promised it would be. The sweet potato fries were delicious. The short rib grilled cheese was dominated by the meat and the complementary flavorings were unable to shine through. It was served with some bland grease for dipping which I barely touched. Overall, the ambiance and food were sufficient to recommend Burton's for a change of pace, but there are better options in Charlottesville. read more

After a long fun day at Monticello, my family and I were hungry and looking for somewhere to sit down and relax while enjoying a meal. We didn't want to drive too far out before eating so we searched Charlottesville and discovered Burtons in a nice strip-mall. We parked in back and rushed in from the humid heat outside. We were promptly seated to a nice table and our waiter tended to us in short time. We ordered our drinks and the Chicken Dip. What drew us to Burtons was was it's extensive gluten-free menu and the chicken dip was a tantalizing looking appetizer. It arrived steaming hot but it looked so amazing that we took a chance burning our tongues to dip our chips into it. It was worth the risk. The dip was freaking crazy good! It was mad dash to the chips by all three of us to get the next scoop before the other as the dip was quickly disappearing even in its state of immense heat. By the time it cooled to a safe warm temperature, there was nothing left other than what a finger wipe across the dish could get. Ya, that dip was awesome! Both my wife and I ordered the Maxx Burger with the Parmesan Cheese Fries. My daughter went with the Gluten-Free Baked Orechiette. We bookended the meal with a Gluten-free Seven Layer Chocolate Cake. We learned from the waiter that the CEO of Burtons Grill & Bar has food allergies himself and is very sensitive to providing a good menu for those that are afflicted with allergies. It was such a pleasant experience that I left wishing we had these on the West Coast. (Please come to Northern California!) My burger was cooked perfectly, medium-rare. It is, excuse the pun, rare to find it cooked as requested but the chef nailed it. The burger was juicy, tasty, and the bun was crazy delicious. My mouth waters now as I type this wanting to have it again! The parmesan fries were very good and dipped in ranch - finally a good ranch in the DC area!! - it was top notch. I gobbled everything so quickly that I nearly forgot what I ordered. My wife complimented her burger and fries in the same way. Okay, now to what my daughter had. Let me be the first to tell you that I really don't care for gluten-free substitutes for dishes like noodles. Plain and simply, it rarely tastes good. When my daughter let me have a bite of her Baked Orechiette, I quickly realized as the cheese bathed zucchini wrapped around the gluten-free noodle went down my throat that I had ordered the inferior item. Wow! This thing was mind-blowing good! The mushrooms, peas, tomatoes, and the cream sauce, all together with that cheese and those zucunni's and the gluten-free noodles that didn't have that obvious "hey, we aren't made with flour!" taste. :) This was supreme. By the time the Seven Layer Chocolate Cake made it to our table, I was stuffed. I ate a bite of it and it too was wonderful. The girls ate layer by layer quicker than you could say, "Hey, was it good?" I really enjoyed Burtons and hope to find its way to my coast sometime soon. If you are lucky enough to be near one, don't hesitate to stop in. You will certainly enjoy it. read more

We went for a casual dinner and sat outside on the terrace. The staff was very welcoming, kind and quick! Our drinks were delicious and were poured from the shaker into our glasses on the table. I had a blueberry hibiscus squeeze which was sweet but not overly sweet and fresh! My husband ordered the steak frites and loved it. I had the fish tacos and they were amazing. I stopped in here with a work crew for dinner. Our waitress did a fantastic job managing our large group and bringing food/drinks out quickly. For appetizers we tried the shrimp, cauliflower and buffalo chicken dip. All were pretty good! The cauliflower was probably my favorite. I don't think you could go wrong with any of the 3 appetizers we tried. For the main course, I ordered the salmon w/ green beans and rice. I was pleasantly surprised how good the rice was because sometimes it can be a miss. The salmon was cooked exactly how I ordered it and tasted great. Unfortunately, my one complaint here was how uncomfortable the chairs were that we sat in. It was nearly unbearable by the end of the long 2 hour dinner we had. read more

I am offended that you allow your vaccinated staff to unmask while requiring the unvaccinated to keep it on. I am a vaccinated patron who knows that the vaccinated get and spread Covid at the same rates as the unvaxxed not to mention the CDC has said that all individuals , vaccinated status aside,, can unmask. We came here on a Friday night and made a reservation as they were quite busy. I had realized I actually had been here many years before but the food was still pretty great. We started with a bottle of Bordeaux, which was priced well, and went with a bunch of appetizers. We got the stuffed zucchini, dry rub wings, and the general tsaos cauliflower- all were amazing. The wings dry rub was actually perfectly done, the general tsaos sauce was awesome, and the stuffed zucchini had perfect cheese and we ended up ordering two. Service however was the only thing that brought it down from a potential 5 to lower. I know for a nicer place such as this it may not be common place to just order appetizers but the waitress seemed taken a back that we weren't going to all order full meals. At one point, after checking up on us a few times to ask about mains, she disappeared for 20 minutes when we did indeed want to order some more stuff. Normally this wouldn't matter to us but when we have been told our reservation time is only for 90 minutes and the waitress disappears for 20-25 of those minutes, it kinda sucks. Also I did order the California sandwich and when they brought it out (it was quite good and not too large of a portion) the person bringing out the food made some weird comment about it being weird or her not being used to only bringing one entree out. Not sure why this threw people off so much, the appetizers here are amazing so why do we all have to get a fancy steak on top of that as well? Overall good experience but wish we weren't made to feel so uncomfortable because we didn't all get entrees. read more

Booted out after spending $300! We had a table in the bar area starting at 3pm. We were continuously ordering drinks and apps. The place was empty in the dining room. We were then told by the fine general manager that we had to leave the table for another reservation at 530. This while other tables in the area. He then forces us to leave and move to a different table for 5 of us- while he then seats 2 people at the table we were at. They did not appear to be from the Royal Family. He then boots us from the second table at 630. This again was in the bar area. I have never ever experienced this ever. He could have easily sat the first people where we were originally without incident. I have never heard of reserving a specific table for someone unless it was Frank Sinatra. The bar staff was great. This guy has to go. There may be openings for him at the nearest correctional facility where he will fit right in. Never returning for fear we may be water tortured next time read more

Our first time here. Walking in we were greeted swiftly. We were able to sit where we requested. We shared a menu for safety purposes. The prices are a little steep. We were waited on in a very timely manner. We ordered our drinks first, then an appetizer-Memphis dry rub wings. They were delicious. I had the Harvest bowl with chicken and he had the Maxx burger. Food came out hot and fast. My bowl-had amazing flavor combinations and was plated well. His burger was satisfying also plated well. Our server made sure we didn't have to wait for refills. Our meal was a big disappointment. It wasn't the service, which was good, but the food. The steak frite tasted like it had been soaked in vinegar & sprinkled with dirt. My husband had the shrimp & lobster pasta. It was bland with almost zero flavor. This is a pricey restaurant, so expectations are for a satisfying meal. It was anything but... We also couldn't help but notice the only 2 black people in the entire restaurant (us & the people behind us) were seated next to the kitchen doors where it was noisiest ("CORNER!"), and the most hidden from other patrons. My husband had the most delicious steak topped with shrimp and I had their special, pan-seared scallops. Unfortunately, they were gritty. Better restaurants should not be serving gritty scallops, which is like finding egg shells in scrambled eggs. Either the scallops were not properly washed or they used an inferior product. read more

HUGE burtons fan. A gluten free girls dream. Their gf menu looks just like a normal menu and they even use square plates to code gluten free items. Al their food tastes amazing, you can't go without getting the kung pao cauliflower app, idc if you think that sounds too healthy or don't like cauliflower, you'll like this. I got the chicken risotto and it was divine and also split a (gf) shrimp carbonara with my boyfriend. The pasta was cut into small pieces which was a little strange but didn't really take anything away. My dad got the seafood pasta (also gf) and loved it and my mom got the gf crab cakes with gf fries which I stole plenty of. Cocktails were super tasty too. A little out of my normal price range as a college student but I'll be happy to take my parents here any day! read more

We had ordered some chips and dip appetizers for the SB and the portions were extremely small for the price - $50!! $50 for two 1/4 full bags of chips and 4 small containers of dip. Way overpriced. I have been here several times and boy was tonight a not so good one. While the food was fine, its usually better! The Hostess pointed me in a direction past the bar and i was not super sure where she wanted to go to meet with my party of 6 people. Kinda thought they were supposed to show you to the table. I found them BUT.... this is my main complaint. Our waitress was very nice but appeared to be very, very, very busy. Not so sure she was.. maybe hyper/new?? When she was going over the "specials". She said that Burtons had a Shrimp and scallop over risotto special. I even asked her did she say that . she said yes!! However, I did not hear a price. I ordered it ... it was a very large portion i recognized.. it also Cost $52.83. Yep I asked her about this and she tried to give me some explanation about the price and how it was labeled on the bill. it said 2x risotto . I said "did you charge me twice ?"and she assured me it is how the special needed to be placed for the kitchen. she did try to get some $$ off but it was only $4. so this morning i thought more about it .... she kept saying you added the shrimp ( when i was questioning the price of a "special" ) I couldn't figure that out. But now I know.... Last night when she was saying the specials , she said a shrimp and scallop together but she meant A shrimp risotto and A Scallop risotto. Two different dishes. She most certainly didn't say it that way and my dinner dates confirmed this. My advice: confirm prices with all "specials" and make your waitress slow down ... Yummmmm. I dig it. Big time. I was visiting for Memorial Day to hike Crabtree with my husband and our bff - staying at the nearby Hilton Suites and we found Burton's on Yelp. The pics looked good and the reviews said it was full of local and fresh food which is usually my thing so we headed here after a long day of hiking. We were easily and promptly seated . I already knew I liked it when they asked if we had any allergies and needed a gluten free menu at the start. Our waitress was very polite - almost to the point of forced - but it seemed fairly genuine so I have no complaints! I saw a mint lemonade drink on the menu and asked if they could put some mint syrup in my sweet tea and they happily obliged. YUM. I chose to get the salmon burger which comes with greens, tomato, and a mustard. I asked for aoili on the side and got the cucumber salad. My husband's burger had pickles so I also added those. YUM! It was delicious - I loved the salmon burger, loved the bun, loved the cucumber salad. It was all a win. It tasted really good with the pickles so I'd suggest adding those if you love pickles. Their french fries were amazing and the fresh bread they bring to the table with olive oil was also really really good. My friend ate like 8 pieces I'm pretty sure. They had some yummy dessert options on the menu and I wish I had tried the chocolate torte - but I will next time. The ambiance inside is very classy and nice - the open kitchen means you can see your food being prepared - plenty of seating and booths and comfy chairs - great attentive and polite service - the meal was timed well - excellent location.
