The Bus Stop is my happy place, my home-away-from-home, and my favorite brunch joint in Manhattan. My husband and I have been frequenting this charming cafe for over 5 years now, and we have never, ever, ever been disappointed. They have the best coffee I've ever tasted. Even when I cut coffee out of my diet years ago, I still got a cup here. It's irresistible. Plus, the servers always keep your cup full and your coffee hot. The cups are bottomless, and they will keep refilling them until you can't take it anymore. The breakfast special is our go-to choice here. Their omlets are delicious and the potatoes are to die for. We also love the breakfast sandwiches (especially on a croissant; yum!), fruit cups, and waffles for a sweet treat. My husband loves their corned beef hash, as well. The crowning glory of this restaurant is their impeccable service. The servers make you feel like you belong there. They have become our friends over the years, and even remembered us when we moved back after a 2-year stint outside New York. I was very disappointed. I ordered a seafood pasta and it was disgusting! I barely wanted to eat the noodles. It was basically spaghetti noodles, bland red sauce, whole baby squids, shrimp with shells, CHEWY scallops, and a couple chunks of salmon that had a fatty layer of skin still on. When I asked the waitress where the salmon came from (if it was wild or farm raised), she had no idea and didn't offer to find out for me. Bus Stop is a cute place in a cute neighborhood but that's pretty much all it has going for it. The food is comparable to diner food - mediocre and uninspired. I ate an omelet here a few days ago and it was unremarkable in pretty much every way. Same with the coffee - it was watery and the only sweetener options were sugar or Sweet and Low. This is still 2014, right? Where the fuck is the Splenda? Do people still use Sweet and Low? The worst part was the service. The hostess took away my menu before I had ordered, probably because she thought I already had because I had certainly been sitting there long enough to have been visited by a waiter. When he finally showed up he was rude and impatient, and barely intelligible. He also neglected to split the check between me and my friend even though we asked and he said he would. I rarely ever tip less than 20% but this time I did. I got a boring omelet, cold toast, gross coffee, and shit service for $17. Bus Stop, how are you even still in business? read more

Don't have high expectations at the The Bus Stop Cafe, because that isn't what this place is all about. But for locals that tire of spending a fortune just to go have dinner, the Bus Stop Cafe fits the bill. It is a nice alternative from the many fancy and pretentious small restaurants around the Village. As a recent transplant to the neighborhood, I was glad to find this gem close by, and now that I have been there half a dozen times, it is becoming my regular local cafe. The food is a few notches up from your regular diner fare, and the prices reasonable. The staff have been quite friendly and service consistent. The reason I am giving it four stars is simply because they do what they do reasonably well, and aren't trying to be something that they aren't. I find myself there at least every few weeks for dinner because I just want somebody else to do the cooking, and I enjoy the service. read more

I stumbled on this restaurant last year in NY. Loved it. And upon my return, I knew that a return visit was mandatory. The food was good, stil a comfortable, nice atmosphere - and I even recognized some of the staff from my last foray there. Perfect for wine and comfort food. Food was good, service was terrible .... Came in late around 10PM, sat outside, place was at 40% capacity. It took a few mins for the waitress to even come over with water. We knew what we wanted and placed an order for two entrees and an appetizer. 20mins pass and the appetizer and one of the entrees comes out - we look at the waitress "did I forget something" .... umm yes the second entree. The second entree came out quick .... but it was annoying having to remind them - not to mention none of the extra burger toppings we ordered made it into the meal. The "Parmesan Asparagus" looked like it had just a single melted mozzarella slice on it .... and no sauce as the the menu had promised. There are few neighborhood diners like Bus Stop. It reminds me of a neighborhood place that I worked at when I lived in Chicago in that it's cozy, slight off-beat, and has its fair share of eccentric, lovable regulars. Bus Stop features reasonable prices, down-to-earth service, and - gosh darn it - good food. Great daily specials and good brunch. I'm a big fan of their tuscan chicken wrap and they do pretty darn good roasted half chicken as a special. The wait on weekend mornings for brunch can be a bit, but their ample outdoor seating during the season helps that a lot. Plus, the outdoor tables allow for plenty of people-watching, dog loving, and random street conversation. read more

Severely dissatisfied Had mozzarella and basil on foccacia. Bread was not what i would call foccacia and was hard. Barely any mozzarella which was not fresh nor melted and way way too much olive oil and balsamic vinegar. I'm still covered by all of the oil. Do not recommend at all. read more

Wow what a pleasant surprise! Some friends and I came in after visiting a nearby bakery. We wanted a place to sit for a bit and found Bus stop cafe. We thought this was a coffee shop, but saw that it was a cute cafe. We were warmly welcomed and accommodated. The staff are phenomenal and service was impeccable. We ended up getting the nachos... omgosh INCREDIBLE. Food was wonderful and so happy we found this spot on a whim. Will definitely come again! 10/10 would recommend! read more

I was looking for some plain, not fancy, home-y food in the West Village, which is practically impossible. Everything here has bistro, ristorante or cuisine in the name. But I asked my hosts if they could think of a place for me to try and they suggested the Bus Stop Cafe. This is not the diner-type atmosphere I was looking for, but I figured I would go with it. The lighting was dark, yet bright enough to see my food and the faces of the diners around me. Lots of candlelight which gave the cafe a very cozy and home-y atmosphere. The prices were reasonable for the quality. Although I ordered meatloaf and mashed potatoes with asparagus, this was the fanciest presentation of this meal that I have ever seen. The meat was not a big brick of hamburger slathered in a ketchup-crusted topping to which I am accustomed. Instead it was thinly sliced, feathered out and surrounded by gravy. The mashed potatoes were tasty, but beaten so thin that there were no visible or gustatory signs that a real potato was ever used. The asparagus was perfect - crispy and crunchy, but not raw. The waitresses were a little weird. Not mean, not forgetful, not inadequate, just a little attitude like they didn't care if I was there or not. I wouldn't let it stop me from going back to try other things on the menu. Thankfully, the drink and table-clearing guy was super friendly to make up for it. read more

Bus stop. More like best not. If you want mediocre frozen foods reheated in temperamental blandness then this is the place to be. We were strolling around and came across this little place and figured we would give it a shot. Nothing special. Burgers, fajitas, mozzarella sticks basic. An all around great place to head for breakfast...food isn't too expensive for NYC and it reminds me of a diner, but a classier one in the classiest area of NYC. I enjoyed a bit of pancakes with banana and flax seeds, courtesy of my grandma who didn't eat them all. I also had a fried egg, sausage and cheese sandwich on an english muffin. This was pretty delicious and cheap ($4.75), but on the smaller side. No problem, because I really don't need 3 eggs and 5 sausage links on my muffin, especially when I scavenge my tiny grandma's pancakes. Service was great, always quick to refill my water and our coffee. No wait, even on a holiday, although it was still crowded. I absolutely love the decor of this place, reminds me of a french cafe (huge windows which cover the entire walls of the building, walls painted yellow and windows with yellow trim). Service is hit or miss - they're mostly friendly, but a little slow to take your order and bring you the check. The food has always been solid for me, especially brunch. Really good eggs Benedict. I've only been for lunch once, but the Greek salad was tasty - it even had a few stuffed grape leaves around the sides, which was a nice bonus. One of the cheaper spots in the area. I hit it up every so often as I work nearby. But if you're wanting a tasty cheap burger for lunch, head over to McKenna's Pub on 14th and 8th - $6 with fries. I got off work ad need a place to grab a quick bite alone. this was perfect! enough locals and random walk ins that give the atmosphere a good balance... with booth like seating and dinner style tables bus stop cafe is a really cte mellow place. very friendly staff and smiles all around! I did not have reservations on a thursday evening and it was fine the beautiful waitress sat me and handed me a menu she came back right when I was ready. perfect! I had a burger med. rare. I was cooked rigth and the fried where crunchy and soft inside.... for a quick bite this was perfection. its a very welcoming place, i was almost late because of it! read more

Spontaneously stopped by here while wandering the neighborhood looking for dinner. They have a nice selection on the menu, the prices weren't outrageous, the atmosphere was cozy (would have used the porch seating if it had been warmer out), friendly staff, and overall I was pretty happy with our choice. The only thing I would have to say is that some of the food wasn't as flavorful as I was hoping. I ordered the NY steak which on the menu was described as "balsamic reduction marinated" and it came out with no balsamic taste and I even had to put salt on it for more flavor. We ate here the other day before visiting the Whitney museum. I ordered a pastrami reuben and my partner ordered eggs benedict from the brunch menu. My sandwich arrived open faced, consisted of thin pastrami sandwich meat with cheese and a ton of sauerkraut. It had no sauce and was drenched in the juice of the sauerkraut. It was not good. My partner's EB were dull, hardly any sauce. The restaurant is very tiny, the folks were very nice and friendly but the food was not good, especially for the price. read more

I was craving a burger the other day and being too lazy to walk out and get one, I decided to see what delivery options were available to me. I hopped onto grubhub and Bus Stop Cafe came up. I've walked past this place a couple times and had been meaning to check out the restaurant so I figured, why not. I ordered the 8 oz. burger with grilled onions and a side of fries. About a half hour later, a jovial delivery man appeared with the goods. Just an FYI, free delivery with minimum order of $10. Order of a plain ol' burger and fries comes up to about $9.50 so I had to add grilled onions for $1 extra to reach the minimum. The burger was tasty! I devoured it. Even after I was full, I forced myself to finish it because it was so good. The fries weren't as crispy as I usually like them but I figure that's just the nature of delivery.. soggy in transit. The following day, I fried up the leftover fries and they were as good as fresh! I still need to actually go in and sit down at the restaurant one of these days. So for now, no comment on the environment/ambiance of the restaurant or service (other than the nice delivery guy). read more

Its in that wonderful quaint area of West Village and seemed like when I went (on a Sunday for lunch) there were lots of families with young kids muling about the restaurant. Bus Stop Cafe....this place confuses me, but in a good way! It has all this diner style food, but some things are surprisingly upscale, the decor is not your typical diner decor, and the ambiance is somewhat romantic in this cozy restaurant. It's like a diner menu, but they have some really great option and specials, and the prices are super decent, especially for the area. They have a small outdoor seating area that is really charming. Situated next to a cobblestone road and across from a little park square. I liked it a lot. The service here is definitely SPOT ON. Our waitress was this cute older women and she was on top of everything. She made sure we were happy with all of our food an that our glasses were always full. I had a mixed pasta dish with some cheesy sauce and a bunch of veggies, featuring bella mushrooms, and it was tasty. My boyfriend had a pesto pasta and it was delicious, more so than mine, although still good. For an appetizer we ordered the broccoli potato skins (vegetarian friendly!) and they were HUGE and tasty too. I also got the French onion soup with my meal because it was a special of the day. The French onion soup was a little lacking, and tasted a lot like celery for some reason, so I wouldn't suggest that. Everything else was good though. I would definitely go back to Bus Stop Cafe. We also had a coupon from restaurant.com, which made our already cheap dinner, dirt cheap, and well worth it. read more

I recently stayed down the street from the Bus Sop Cafe at the Jane Hotel and I was looking for a cheap place to grab breakfast before I had to leave the city. Yelp actually led me here when I searched for local restaurants. When we arrived we were greeted by a friendly old man. We sat outside on the small patio and enjoyed the people watching of the West Village as we glanced over the menu. Prices are decent between $5-8 for a meal. I ordered french toast, bacon, juice and coffee. You can't screw that up too bad. It was delicious. The coffee was the best I've ever had, quiet possibly in my entire life. It was fresh and I really wish I would have asked where the coffee beans were from. Next time I'm in NYC this is definitely on my list of places to go again. read more
