This place was recommended to me from a friend of mine. The atmosphere is very cozy and romantic. The food itself is divine. My friend and I were looking for some burgers and we had heard about the Bus Stop Cafe, but never went in...until recently...our lives were slightly rocked by this cute little establishment that is (oh my) really a bus stop location (which bus is a bit of a mystery to me, but I digress). The burgers were really tasty, in my opinion -- even though my "medium-well" turned into a "well-done", I'm not complaining. The fries were also heavenly. As for breakfast, I don't think their brunch menu is GREAT (for I've seen better around the West Village), but it's not bad. The coffee service was fantastic (do I want more coffee? Uh, yes), and my omelet was very satisfying (I had the one with lox and onion), and I was really excited to have gotten it with a side of a blueberry muffin that was really huge and cut in half for me! The food is BAD. I'm not a picky eater either.. I'm usually easy to satisfy. The prices hinge on ok / pricey.. but considering the area, I guess it's cheap. But you really are shown that you're sacrificing quality. I know it's a diner.. but $5 for a plain burger with nothing on it and nothing included, I could hop up to 8th Ave & 14th for McKenna's Pub - half pound grilled burger with lettuce tomato and onions and a side of steak fries for $6. We also tried the pasta which was watery.. and $13.. and I'd made better pasta at home the night before for a total cost of $1. It was supposed to be vodka rigatone but I think I got tomato cream dishwater. Tried the grilled chicken sandwich which was not bad. If you want to pay $17 or so, you can have one of their dinner entrees, but at that price you can get MUCH better food at a slew of places around the neighborhood.. or if you're willing to trek down to Tribeca.. you can have an amazing french meal at THE ODEON for the same price. P.s. service was mediocre, decor.. broke down schoolbus... yet you still pay higher prices, **not a good value for the taste of the food.** read more

Stopped in for early afternoon brunch and had a great experience. Super cozy place in a great area, and the food was pretty good. They had a ~$15 dollar deal where you got an entree, a drink, and coffee/tea/soda--a pretty good package overall. The best part for me was the atmosphere. They folded back the window partitions and there was a great breeze that ran through the cafe and sort of a picturesque view of the village through the rain. Slept in Saturday morning then went to Bus Stop with BL for Brunch. The staff was efficient and attentive, but the food was not consistent with the service. My eggs were runny and the corn beef hash was incredibly salty. BAD STUFF. I'm not having much luck with Brunch in the West Village. A great neighborhood diner with a tucked in outside seating area right on a corner for entertaining people watching. The service is quick and courteous, food is above average as far as neighborhood diners go. Their paninis are delicious but made on a flatbread rather than the usual ciabatta or other European breads. And you should try their pancakes or any of their omelette plates. Regular haunt for 20 years. Got much busier in the last 7 or so, with the huge uptick in West Village tourism. This has affected them negatively, their service has slipped and their food is more expensive and worse. And their traditional warmth to regulars has cooled considerably. Three of us ducked in here tonight to get out of the rain and as it turns out, I'm glad it was raining. I had never been in this charming place, clean (spotless actually), comfortable, and an efficient, friendly staff. We enjoyed our meals, every bite. Two of us got fish (tile fish) with mashed potatoes and asparagus-- everything was cooked exactly right, totally delicious. The other of us got pork medallions and loved it. The bread was scrumptious and seemed homemade. The soups were better than homemade (and I make good soup-- best chicken noodle I ever had out.) I really wanted to like this place. It's super cute and convenient with patio seating! However the staff are super rude and will charge extra for basic things like lettuce and tomato on a burger! I happened on The Bus Stop Cafe over a year ago. With siblings, all of us over 65, we had utterly superb breakfasts. My corned beef hash over perfectly done eggs medium over was a delight, and the accompanying cubed hash browns a masterful crispy outside, done inside rendition of fried potatoes. Toast sliced thick, marmalade generously put on the side. Breezes came through the windows opened on this parklike corner of the Lower West Side. A few friends and I stumbled upon the Bus Stop Cafe while walking through the West Village when we got lost. We were pleasantly surprised by the food and overall restaurant experience, especially since we didn't really know what to expect at all. The service was very good, and we constantly had people coming over to check on us, our enjoyment of the food, and refilling my coffee. We were there for brunch so I can't speak for the dinner service or food, but I was impressed that they had very quick and efficient service without losing politeness. The restaurant was packed around 12 for brunch/lunch time, and a line began to gather shortly after we left. I ordered the Berry Good Waffle. It was delicious, and I really enjoyed the flavors of the honey, fruit, and almonds with the really fluffy waffle! There was a lot of greek yogurt on the waffle though, and I ended up scraping it off after just because I could feel myself getting a little sick. My other friends ordered the Spinach Pie which I thought was good, but after a while tasted slightly like unfrozen spinach, and my other friend ordered the Italiano Panini which I didn't get a chance to try. My waffle and coffee ended up coming out to over 17$ and with tip it was about 21$. I understand that this is NYC, but I did think it was a bit overpriced for a waffle. So I had to dock a star for the pricing. I would recommend this place, but probably wouldn't come here on a regular basis because its just a bit too expensive. read more

Came here for a birthday brunch and found it pleasant. The dishes were somewhat reasonably priced and my broiled salmon with broccoli and fries was delicious! I also enjoyed the salad. The coffee is nothing special so I would skip it. Good service since they were on top of filling our water so points for that! I'd probably not come back because nothing really wowed me but if you are in the area and hungry for some food then hit this place up but other than that I'd skip. read more

On a sunny Sunday, it is the perfect brunch spot. It was a party of three. The hostess quickly accommodated us. The waitress was kind and humorous ! Brunch is an affordable $20 and it includes a drink. Portions are generous and our dishes were delicious. I had the avocado smash and my friends had the smoked salmon on a bagel. Dennis and I are fans of Bus Stop. We've been going here for years---even back in the 80s when it was the original Bus Stop and had different owners and a big long counter and fresh lemonade. New owners took over in the late 80s/early 90s and over the years it has become a fancy shmancy diner and their outdoor seating and big open windows give you a great bird's eye view of all the action on Abingdon Square and beyond. A great perch on a Saturday afternoon. The food is very good but the prices are pretty steep---but I suppose they have to make the rent on this prime West Village corner. The crowd is usually neighborhood folks with a few out-of-towners on the weekends. Den's a big pancakes fan and also likes the mozzarella prosciutto tomato panini while I love the fresh squeezed orange juice and the greek and goat cheese salads---always with grilled chicken well done on top and dressing on the side. Their bread basket is a little too good if you know what I mean, so those of you dieting....watch out! :) The wait staff is delightful and the deliveries are speedy with very nice delivery staff. We have been going here for lunch several times. The healthy treat is the best in town. The yoghurt is locally sourced Greek yoghurt, not the sweetened factory brand stuff you get elsewhere. Fresh berries and strawberries, even in winter. The problem is that it is sooo good that ordering something else becomes a challenge. Other lunch plates are good too and are reasonably priced. We decided to go into this place today to get some food after taking our kids to a fun house that was a few blocks away. The food was okay and the waitress was great, that's why they get 1 star, but the owner was disrespectful and rude. We were a group of 7 adults and 6 kids ranging from (3-10 year olds). If they did not want a large group or small children in their diner they should have told us at the door. At some point some of the kids were a little loud so this old man (I'm assuming he was the owner) came over directly to the kids and told them to be quiet and that they were making other customers want to leave. First of all the kids were not being loud, I have been around a toddler when they are in full melt down and this was not that; they were talking and laughing. Second of all you do not know what is going on and having and old scary person walk up and stand above a child is not helping any situation; in fact it made my youngest niece upset. We are also paying customers, and this was just not the way to handle it. The waitresss then came over with some crayons and paper, which they could have done from the beginning or let the parents handle it and calm the kids down. The owner was very dismissive as if we had walked into a super fancy fine dining establishment. How does he know those other people left because of us and not because of his grumpy gargoyle looking self standing by the bar? And if people are not allowed to speak or laugh in this place then they should also let customers know. Or maybe it's just the people of color that visit this place that need to be extra quiet for massa. If he doesn't know how to speak to people I suggest he stay in the back and not interact with customers. read more

This place is great. Stopped in here to kill time with a coffee before attending a show at UCB chelsea. The show was at 11pm, I had an hour to kill and the weather was miserable. Bus Stop was quiet but cosy, small with a diner-ish atmosphere, with warm and helpful service. The server refilled my coffee several times, and then refused point blank to charge me because it was 'just coffee'.
