Been here a few times, and its a testament to how quick I am that I just realized it's called Bus Stop Cafe, because its, you guessed it...at a bus stop. Kinda puts a damper on eating outside if you ask me, but a couple of glasses of Tempranillo will help you get past it. My go to place because its kind of out of the way, and not too crowded on some random weeknight. Service is great, prices are reasonable. Best word to describe it - cozy. There's nothing pretentious about the Bus Stop Cafe which may appeal to a lot of people in the West Village that want fast, simple food without much fuss. That's exactly what you're going to get in both service and food. The waitresses aren't over the top friendly and they don't try to mesmerize you with fancy decor. Everything is what it is here and I love the no frills comfort food. They've got great outdoor seating in a location that makes for excellent people watching... or gawking, whatever the case may be. The inside is small but I've been here a handful of times around brunch and never had much of a wait for a table. We cannot say enough about Bus Stop. Been here forever. It's a classic NYC diner, of the type that's disappearing all too quickly. Food not brilliant, but always solid. The staff is full of love, genuine love, for their customers, and the price is right. My only complaint is that its success has made it difficult to get a seat sometimes. I love bus stop. great for a breakfast, lunch or small dinner. it's a great little weekend place. The food is really great for a "diner"/cafe. Large menu. You can find a lot more selections than you would expect. Prices are pretty good too. I've order from Bus Stop on many occasions and stop by on a weekend for basic breakfast. Today I had the French Toast and it was really wonderful. Definitely recommend it and I will go back. I live down the street so I guess I may be biased. read more

My experience last week at the Bus Stop Cafe was so bad that I abandoned my free breakfast vouchers from a local inn and went elsewhere for the rest of my stay. My muffin was literally raw in the middle, and the bialy egg sandwich was almost inedible. The service was surly to say the least. When our breakfast arrived, I cut my muffin in half to find it raw in the middle. When I called the waiter over, he snarled at me and asked if I wanted something else. He brought a new muffin and slammed it down on the table. He then disappeared. When we finished eating, despite making eye contact and looking directly at me when I was waving him over to the table, he did not return to the table to deliver our bill for 15 minutes. When the bill arrived and we presented the vouchers, he growled at us again, and said, "wait." Then he and the waitress, who had been on the phone since our arrival, conferred for literally 10 more minutes. He finally returned, angrily and wordlessly pointed at the new total (which included 25 cents more of a tip than we had left), and stalked away. I was very disappointed to have had such a negative experience here, as it is a cute, cozy little place with a lot of potential. read more

Literally just walked out of this place. I just waited 30 min for a salad! Three groups came in after me and got sat, and food before me. I ordered a goddamn salad! Small, elegant, and all around cozy is how I would describe the Bus Stop Cafe. Don't let the size of the restaurant fool you, however, the food here is a big deal! I ordered a classic cheeseburger (what I consider the litmus test for many businesses), and I was more than satisfied with not only the size but the taste as well. The Bus Stop Cafe offers a great aesthetic, as well as great food for decent prices. The only drawback is that the cafe is so small, the staff seemingly has nowhere to stand, and at times it felt like the hostess, as well as our sever were just watching us eat. I ordered from them off of Seamless and had the worst experience. I ordered two greek wraps, and the lettuce that was inside was brown and looked like it had gone bad weeks ago. I"m not sure how the person preparing the wraps could not see how rotten the ingredients were. When I called to complain the guy told me he could not issue a refund through seamless (which isn't true) and then haggled me about preparing another dish (and only sent over one new dish because the price point was higher than the two wraps I ordered). Nice. What a friend of mine used to call "A DIner With Pretensions." It's bascially diner food at diner prices with a more restaurant-like atmosphere. The waiters were very attentive and friendly ("She's having an appetizer and you're not? I'd better get you some bread, so you don't just sit and watch her eat."), and they had outdoor tables, and it just felt very relaxed and pleasant. Came here today for Brunch, it wasn't busy at all, we outside and waited for our server, 10 minutes passed and nobody came to take our order, I seen staff walking back and forth. I had to go inside to to ask for someone to take our order, the food took a while to come out, the table beside us ordered way after us but somehow got their food first even though we ordered similar dishes The food came out but they didn't give us silverware or napkins, I waiting to see if they would be brought over but nothing came, I had to again go back inside and ask for it. Somehow a Sprite ended up on our table which we never ordered, the waiter told us just to have it since it was a mistake, we didn't drink it and it ended up on our bill, I had to have them take it off. The table next to us asked the busser for extra napkins, they were never brought over so I gave them the extra napkins we had on our table It's a cute spot with a great location, the food was good and I enjoyed the other few times I visited this location but today had too many issues that really didn't need to to happen, for such a small place they really shouldn't have these issues read more

Hmm..from the reviews it looks like this is a popular brunch place. I came here for dinner. My friend got a pretty average Caesar salad, and I had a honkin' huge spanokopita. We each had white wine (with spanokopita? yeah. I know). We sat outside, which I would DEFINITELY recommend. The Bus Stop Cafe could be really good as it is in a great West Village location but suffers from the Manhattan curse of abysmal service! The food is typical diner fare but you practically have to beg to get service, drink refills - and your bill! It mystifies me as to how the waitstaff, that relies on tips as a good portion of their income can be just so nonchalant and inattentive. I've noticed that Manhattan has hands down the absolute worst service and the Bus Stop Cafe reiterates that fact. The waitstaff and owners basically stood behind their counters and couldn't even be bothered to see the swiveling heads of the parched patrons anxiously awaiting refills and their checks. Mediocre food, abysmal service. Steer clear of this one! I certainly hope that Yelpers will help improve these lackluster business by keeping them honest and forcing them to improve their service. read more

Wandering through the W. Village on a stormy day with only a stomach full cupcakes and a black coffee, I tried to find something within the price range of a student. I remembered I got lost on the bus once and ended up at a diner somewhere on Hudson St. so I dragged my tired ass crosstown in hopes of recognizing the place. It was all the way at the end of Bleeker St. and after that walk my appetite was raging. We arrived right at the mid-afternoon lull so we had the place almost to ourselves. Me and my friend both ordered the "Stop Club" (BLT with turkey). The portion was just right leaving you at the point of being satisfied but not overly so that you end up in a food induced coma and the price was average for a diner. Really fresh-tasting mimosas. Had the $17 "berry good" breakfast special: a waffle topped with yogurt, honey, almonds, strawberries and blueberries. Comes with an alcoholic drink of choice (mimosa, sangria, rtc) and a choice of coffee, tea or juice. They asked to refill my coffee possibly 20 times, but somehow managed to do it unobtrusively. Went to brunch here with my boyfriend's sister and we had a very satisfying meal. I enjoyed the griddle cakes with real Vermont maple syrup while Caroline enjoyed a much healthier salad and the boyfriend had the eggs benedict. If I lived in New York I would definitely make Bus Stop Cafe one of my weekend brunch spots. The food is fresh and delicious, the service is great and the little spot is just so freaking cute!
