Service was certainly above average and they even sang to me on my B-day, but.... there were A LOT of items that were "86'd" not too late on a Saturday night. These guys crush, go here. First Terryaki chicken then something else, she didn't feel well coming in, so she was trying to eat something she knew well. The miso soup did her decently, but she really just wanted what she wanted. I'll quit ranting about all this, lol. My sushi and sashimi was solid. The $30 thing that is basically a chef's tasting is a damn good deal. I got some salmon belly and some tuna that many places would call toro. My sake was pretty cheap and not bad. Many better options available to those who want to spend the $. The green tea tiramisu that I got for desert was friggin' amazing. It came with such a nice assortment of sides including nigiri, gyoza and edamame. Everything was delicious. The Katsu was light and the meat was perfectly cooked. Lunch date on a Saturday afternoon and had no problems getting seated. The indoor space is beautiful and very clean, they clearly put a lot of thought into decor! If you're an eggplant fan I highly recommend the grilled miso eggplant, it was melt-in-your-mouth deliiiiiiiiicious. We also got some pork buns and sushi lunch sets which came with a sushi sampler and a roll, everything was super tasty and fresh. Great sushi and lunch special in a super cool space. My husband had the bento set with beef and I had the roll special. The sushi was on point - packed with flavor and quality ingredients. His beef was tender and tasty and came with a little sushi (he could choose nigiri or a roll, which is quite rare for a lunch set!) as well as rice, pickles, soup and a few gyoza. It was a great combo for the price. We also had some house sake cold. As it was on the thin side flavor wise, it would have been better if we had ordered it warm. Food is amazing and service is awesome. I'm only giving it 3 stars because the amount of food you get for the price you pay is not so great. Spending $140 including tip on a good Japanese dinner is fine, but we were so hungry after that we ordered more sushi somewhere else when we got home. We had a bottle of sake (super good), manila clams ($17 for a small salad bowl of clams) a roll, 1-2 pieces of sashimi and grilled jumbo shrimp and some rice. Don't get me wrong, I completely recommend this place. However, this is Bushwick not Manhattan. The restaurant was fab I have no complaints but would expect more than 3 jumbo prawns for $13, can I get a fourth for the two of us so we dont have to cut the third in half? Maybe in a few years of Bushwick growth and some more gentrification we can justify the price. Otherwise, excellent sushi spot, very cute and very fresh sushi. read more

I was impressed by how everything was packaged for delivery; Bushniwa definitely took a lot of care in packaging everything so hot food didn't heat up the sushi, and food items didn't get squished while being delivered. The sashimi tasted fresh, and the Poke Bowl was amazing! I loved the mix of flavor in their Poke Bowl, and they were generous with the salmon. It was about half rice and half toppings and salmon, so it was a good mix. Some places skimp on the protein and fill up the container with mostly rice, so I was pleased to see how much fish was in the Poke Bowl. I also ordered the Gyu don, and the beef was tender and perfectly cooked. I saved this for dinner, and it reheated well right in the package. Highly recommended Their prices are very fair considering that their sushi and rolls are at at least one or two tiers above the average neighborhood sushi places. Spend the few extra dollars and order it from here! Withouth a hint of Xenophobia (as I am a non-Japanese Asian as well), I always had a preconception on what a Korean-owned or Chinese-owned sushi place can do and how their quality of sushi and rolls would go so far compared to Japanese-run places, but boy was I wrong! This is not your ordinary non-japanese owned sushi place. Their ingredients and fish-to-rice ratio is a peer to none of those places. As a rudimentary example, other places would pack their spicy-(any fish) rolls with fried bits to give crunchiness and greasiness to bring out "rich" flavors, but Bushniwa actually makes their spicy-tuna or spicy-salmon or whatever spicy rolls with purely raw fish and their spicy sauce! I ordered California roll and spicy tuna; I also through in a side order of the shrimp Bao because i had never tried it. The sushi was so fresh and delicious and packed nicely. I've been coming here since they opened - the fish is always fresh, and the quality is always consistently great. A lot of times new places open up that seem amazing in the beginning and then after a few months go downhill - that is not the case with Bushniwa. It's relatively close to where I live so it's super convenient if i don't want to try a new spot and have a sushi craving. I usually go around lunch time on the weekend and always manage to snag a spot. I highly doubt you'll ever have to actually wait for a seat here. The lunch special is really good - 3 rolls for $16 + soup or small salad. My favorite rolls to get are spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and yellowtail scallion. I have a gluten intolerance and they do carry gluten free soy sauce (tamari), which is also very convenient. I don't think you can go wrong with any roll here though! The spot itself is also very airy and "cute" with enough seating. Parking nearby is not an issue either. read more
