I came here (RI) for work with 5 friends. 5 white, me black. We ordered drinks and food from our server. Older gentleman, I believe his name is Joe. All of my friends had their drinks refilled without asking while my drink remained empty until I asked for another drink. When the food came out, I didn't get my order. I waited a few minutes thinking that the server couldn't carry the entire table's order at once. After a few minutes and watching the server service people at the bar, I went to ask him if there was more food coming to the table. He told me "no." He went through his notes, a few strips of paper, and said he didn't have an order for me. I didn't order last so my order was within the others on the list. We'll after a few years my wife and I decided to stop here for a quick lunch as our normal go to restaurant is temporarily closed. Opposite of our last visit, the service was friendly and we felt welcomed. As for the food, I got a chicken sandwich with buffalo sauce and my wife got the beef stew. The food tasted pretty decent. My only complaint is that the chicken was just a breast on a bun and wasn't flattened at all, so it's a little awkward for a sandwich. The fries that came with it were fresh cut and crispy. My wife's stew was good and she had no complaints. The atmosphere is pretty cool, nothing new to report. It has a cool pub vibe to it. Great Irish bar right in the mix of downtown Newport, I had a fish sandwich, it was a really thick piece of nice meaty white fish. My wife had a cheeseburger. I like the food and they have traditional Irish/UK food as well as American pub food. The five star rating however isn't for the the food, it's for the booze. They have an extensive array of Irish Whiskeys and especially Single Malts! They also have the Magners cider and other Irish ales and stout. Stumbled upon Buskers after deciding it wasn't worth it to wait 1.5 hours on a Thursday to eat at Brick Alley Pub. Very pleasantly surprised!!! Food was absolutely delicious and reasonably priced. The service was a bit slow and it took a bit of effort to be noticed by our server. Overall I would definitely go back. Highly recommend the Irish onion soup!!! read more

What a terrible lunch experience. This was our second choice as the restaurant up the street was too busy. Turns out we could have waited for our first choice, gotten and eaten our food, and been back to our meeting on time and in less time than this mess. We were promptly seated, although it didn't seem like they were happy to see us. Our drink order was taken, and then the waiting started. At least 10 min for 3 cans of soda and a water. Then more waiting after 20 minutes of waiting for our food (a salad, soup, fries, & a chicken sandwich) we inquired, were told the chicken sandwich is grilled to order so it takes more time. TWENTY-NINE minutes later our food arrived. All fine, but nothing special, and burned edges of toast. There was a half hearted apology, but no real concern that we were now very late. The last straw was that on the way out we were told that they wouldn't validate for parking, which now cost TWELVE dollars because we sat in this (cold, btw) joint for over an hour and a half for a very simple lunch! read more

Went there on a Tuesday around 3:30 pm and it was slow. The hostess seated us fairly quickly. Server came within a couple of minutes and we placed soft drinks and food order as we were in a bit of a hurry. Food ordered was fairly quick to prepare - fish&chips, burgers fries for a group of 4. After that it took around 35 minutes for the food to come out and the server seemed disinterested in us and her job and apparently so were the cooks. Decent atmosphere - typical irish pub like decor. I've been a few times, but didn't review until now since I finally tried the food. I had the Bangers and Mash, hubby had the Shepherd's pie. The pie was ok - not great, but not bad either. The bangers and mash, however, was very underwhelming. The sausages were practically hot dogs, the mash had no seasoning, and the beans seemed to be from a can. They do have TVs everywhere and I've been a few times specifically to watch Red Sox games. Unfortunately this bar's TVs exhibit my greatest pet peeve - they aren't in sync. Depending on the channel, the best and biggest TV is either ahead or behind the other, smaller ones. This is particularly annoying when half the bar is cheering for a play that I haven't seen yet. The staff, however, has always been nice, and if I were just going for drinks and to casually watch a game that I wasn't as concerned about then it's a fine place to hang out. I'm a fan of this spot in the heart of Newport. It can be a bit dark - but its comforting and the bar has a fabulous beer selection. The owner is one of the best bartenders out there - he knows you want another pint before you do and is always ready to assist when you have a problem (namely - the lack of a full glass.) The food is decent pub grub. Last time I ate there I noticed some welcome additions - had a spicy fish sandwich wrap that was exactly what I was looking for at the moment. We came here on a Saturday night around 7 for dinner and were immediately seated. The ambiance was nice and there was live music towards the end of the night (end as in past 8 ish? We're used to places closing late - NYC, but I'm assuming this is normal for Newport since they close quite early). It's definitely a family/kids friendly place, there were toddlers there. Service was attentive. On to the food - we were completely satisfied with everything we ordered. We had a starter platter with fried pickles, fried mozzarella, chicken tenders etc. and it was absolutely delicious. Everything on that platter was on point. We shared a fish and shrimp special and a sausage and mashed potatoes dish and both were cooked to perfection, as well. The fish and shrimp were fried so well with a great crunchy coating, and the mashed potatoes were one of the best I've ever had. Pricing was fair for the portions and deliciousness. Whether you're looking for a family friendly dinner or a night out at the bar with your friends, Buskers has you covered. The first floor is strictly for the bar crowd - live music on the weekends and smoking is allowed. The second floor is their dinning room. Both levels have an open floor plan with plenty of tables. You don't have to worry about squeezing in. The service was fast and friendly, even for a busy Friday night. We started off with nachos which was devoured within a few short minutes! For my main, I ordered a veggie burger. Absolutely delicious! You can tell everything was freshly prepared. I added American cheese and caramelized onions to jazz it up a bit. My GF and I went here after dinner and its a nice place to sit down, have a beer and chat. What made it good it was not loud. We were greeted by the bartender who told me what good places to visit while in Newport. While having a few drinks we ordered the "Moy" which took quite a bit for the order to come but when it did we sure did enjoy putting our small sandwich together. They do have 2 TVs which was showing one of the New England teams at that time was the Boston Celtics. I am sure during spring this place will get packed with Red Socks fans. Came to Newport over the weekend for a wedding. On Friday night, after an 8 hour drive, we just wanted to find a great restaurant for eats and drinks. Enter Buskers. I absolutely loved the atmosphere. We were seated right away and started glancing over the food and drink menu. I settled on the Cottage Pie and Celtic Lemonade. The Cottage Pie was out of this world. I'm a very picky eater but gladly chowed down on the entire thing without picking out the peas. That's how delicious it was. And the Lemonade was well worth the $8. I had 2 and was plenty drunk! All-in-all, I loved Buskers. I would definitely come back. In fact I loved it so much I tried to get everyone to go there Saturday night after the wedding! read more

The food menu is great and has lots of choices, but unfortunately after a few visits I have determined that the quality of the food is really hit or miss. The first time I ordered the Cranberry Chicken and Brie "toastie" I was very impressed - a lovely flavor combination with freshly sliced apples for some crunch. However ever since that first order, it has been very disappointing. The Boyfriend has had the mac & cheese and has been pleased each time. The home made mozzarella sticks are pretty yummy. Lots of pub classics on the menu. The bar offers full menu service. Lots of beers on tap, as well as a great selection of whisky and other spirits. Service was great.. the bartender was really on top of things. The atmosphere is very much like an English or Irish pub. Tables, booths, High tops, and a long bar offer up plenty of seating. Prices are average for Thames Street in Newport. There is only street parking here which is very limited. You will need to park in a paid lot or plan to walk. A mess. The servers are rude and inattentive. It took almost an hour for our apps to come out. Our waitress didn't even say anything when she put our food down. There was a couple sitting behind us that were there before us who still didn't receive their meal. Everyone in our area looked agitated....which isn't because of one waitress. Our small area of the restaurant has three different servers? The guy who sat us was also completely disinterested in us and other customers. All in all everyone who works there hates working there and couldn't give a crap about the customers. Management must be terrible if everyone is so miserable. We almost got up and left but felt bad so stayed... food was okay. They need new management or a new attitude. Make your staff happy and they'll be happy to work there... yikes. read more

Sadly we were only in Newport for one night, and came by Buskers on the way out of town as I'd read about the bloodies being good...totally wished we'd come by the day before! Good (and spicy!) bloody, and super cute, but casual, ambiance - as its irish, it had great character! The down side was the food. The upside included the charming atmosphere and our accommodating waitress! Five of us went to eat after a long day at a meeting, and she happily gave us separate checks. The chicken breast was most definitely dry and the buffalo sauce was lacking in any reminiscence of heat. A colleague ordered the fish and chips. The fish was undercooked and inside this thick crust of a batter. The batter had the taste of...grease. Ick! The garden burger was reported as being dry as well. The mussels were so-so. As for the lobster roll, she never said one thing either way. I know the joke that Irish pubs aren't known for their food....but really, how can one have a restaurant business and poor food?! I don't get it - but there really are only a few Irish pubs that rise to the challenge in New England. This is not one of them. I won't be back for a meal. I have gone here twice the first time my husband and I got a flight because I couldn't decide on what I wanted they have the largest selection of cream ales (I think they had four on tap) so of course I had to try them all! They did not disappoint! We also had truffle fries and anything truffled flavored is right up my alley! Absolute favorite bar in newport. NEver had a bad night when going to Buskers. The food in good and the drinks are better. ALways got car bombs and LA waters and look forward to going back to have them just the way they make them. The ceilings are low and the place can get loud but its part of what makes it such a great drinking hole. The music on friday and saturday nights is the best live music in the area and you will not be dissapointed. Highly recomend getting there a little early to get a seat after the dinner crowd. We recently enjoyed a quick dinner of traditional fish and chips at Buskers during a weekend stop in Newport over the holidays. The portions were huge and the fries were crispy and delicious. Delicious!! The only crappy part was the fact that the host had no idea what he was doing. We were waiting in the small lobby with 8 other people waiting to be seated. Two girls walked past us asking if we were seated, then walked right into the dining room and were seated. Eventually, the host came and took everyone's name. We took a seat at the bar, had a beer, and we were shortly escorted upstairs to be seated. We started off with the potato skins, which had corned beef in them instead of the traditional bacon. The service we received, (besides the service at the front door) was impeccable. We had a few too many beers, and she was kind enough to let us know we over paid. A fun Irish pub in Newport, Rhode Island. The food is good (I had the Reuben sandwich and some fried calamari) and the atmosphere is friendly. The evening of St Paddys, there was a line out the door. Our friends were inside at a table for all of us to enjoy dinner and the extremely rude man at the door would not allow us to go in. One of our friends came to the door to tell him we did in fact have a table for dinner and they were waiting for us to order and continued to refuse us entry.
