The atmosphere is fantastic upscale without feeling stuffy, making it a great place for either a nice dinner or a business meeting. The staff and waiters were outstanding. Everyone was knowledgeable about the menu, attentive throughout the meal, and always seemed one step ahead when it came to service. The food was amazing from start to finish. The drinks were equally impressive and paired perfectly with the food. Some of the main dishes come in very generous portions, so you definitely get your money's worth. Between the excellent food, fantastic drinks, beautiful atmosphere, and exceptional service, this was a memorable dining experience. Came to celebrate my friend's 30th! Our server was friendly but totally overwhelmed. To be fair, I don't think management accounted for graduation weekend when staffing. To drink, I wanted an NA option with NA sparkling wine but they were out of the liqueur, so I was able to just get the glass of NA sparkling wine--though our server had to check bc that is not on the menu, which is a missed opportunity. The food options are true to the name. Many "slabs" of meat on the menu, little vegan options, if any, because it's the type of place where Brussels have bacon. Out of 12 of us, at least half got a steak salad. I ordered the sour cream chive mash and tri-tip. The meat was a bit tough but had good flavor. Enough for one hungry person but two can share. I was worried the mashed potatoes wouldn't live up to my whipped potato preference but they did. Was not a fan of the sour cream forward taste after a while but the brown butter finish was a nice touch. The sides are also very shareable. We were in a room with another large party and the ambiance was a bit crowded but we made it work. Everyone was absolutely so kind at the restaurant from the beginning to the end. The service is absolutely amazing. The blue crab beignets are soft and light. My wife chose this place for our 16th anniversary and it did not disappoint! The weather was atrocious the night we went (we couldn't reschedule as we had tickets for the Trans Siberian Orchestra) which may have contributed to the restaurant not being super busy but the ambiance was perfect. There were a couple large groups dining and they did a great job of keeping plenty of space between parties so it was never too noisy. Our server (younger Asian guy, shame on me for forgetting his name) was absolutely wonderful. He was ready with suggestions and had answers to any question we asked whether it was drinks or food. I love the butcher and backyard in the summer so I was excited to return. Was hoping to try Char Bar's happy hour but they were having a private event (good to know for future reference). The ambience is really nice, sat at the bar and didn't feel distracted by other people. The seats were a bit close to each other but it wasn't busy so it wasn't any trouble. Wasn't super happy with what I ordered, got the rotating happy hour cocktail it was incredibly underwhelming, would've been better off with the wine options. We got the croquettes and fries off the happy hour menu and both were nice and warm and easy to snack on mid conversation. Went to Butcher and the Boar last night for a fantastic dinner. We got the Blue Crab Beignets, which are not pictured, for a started. We were surprised with how many it came with. The remoulade for dipping was fantastic. I think I would have been happier though if it were maybe 4 pieces with more crab in each than the 8 pieces it came it, but it was still delicious! I got the Tri-Tip which had a fantastic chimichurri over it and the Sour Cream-Chive Mash was to die for. My drink, "Do You Remember the Taste of Strawberries?" was so light and refreshing. I was very happy with the experience overall. Service was slightly on the slower side, but mainly because they had one server working one half of the dining room in anticipation that it wouldn't be too busy. This restaurant is in a huge, gorgeous space that nails the industrial-chic aesthetic, complete with high ceilings, dark lighting, and moody decor. Lighting-wise, it's definitely on the darker side, which adds to the ambiance, but the 80s/90s rock music felt a little out of place for the overall vibe. Our server was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, offering great recommendations and walking us through the components of each dish, which we really appreciated. That said, once the food hit the table, the service really slowed down... it took a painfully long time to get boxes and the check, which was frustrating. As for the food: the Brussels sprouts are a MUST. Spicy, crispy, and generously portioned, these were easily one of the best items we had. The pork chop is enormous and 100% worth the price, with a flavorful kick and perfectly charred skin that gives it an amazing texture. The cornbread was another win, packed with real corn and paired with a deliciously rich butter. Unfortunately, the mac and cheese didn't hold up to the rest because it lacked flavor and creaminess. This place is crazy good! We arrived early for our reservation and asked if we could be seated in the bar booth instead of the main dining area (more our vibe). The hostess was so friendly and accommodating; showed us to our table, then asked if we wanted to see the speakeasy - of course we did! So we walked back to the back to the Char Room. Wasn't your typical speakeasy as it is open, but with dark woods and lovely smoky smell from smoking their bourbons. On the food! We started with fire roasted oysters with a thick farm bread to ensure none of the butter escaped and then the grilled shrimp. Both were insanely yummy. Only thing wrong with the oysters is there was only four and the shrimp need a new name that describes them better as having an amazing chilled flavor with a spicy white sauce. Sam, our server, recommended the shrimp which we had to thank him for -amazing! He also suggested one of the specials, the top sirloin and added that the spicy white sauce from the shrimp would pair with the steak nicely. It certainly did not disappoint! The top sirloin was perfectly cooked, mouth watering and melted in our mouths. As a side, we got the green beans which were sautéed in garlic bacon and a light cream sauce which we could've used for bread dipping but we were so full! For dessert (the liquid kind), we sipped on a 2oz pour of the Old Fitzgerald bourbon 7yr Bottled in Bond. All the wait staff were so attentive and friendly. Our server was very knowledgeable and helpful with menu suggestions. I tried three different drinks: the Little Piggy Paloma, Kaiju, and Aviation. I should have ordered the Paloma spicy, as it was missing that extra kick. The Kaiju was a bit sweet for my taste but still very enjoyable. The Aviation was the perfect balance--light and smooth. For my entrée, I ordered the Wagyu double-cut chuck eye. It was perfectly cooked, with a pleasantly textured char crust. Every bite was juicy and tender. We tried a large sampling of items but the price kept us from trying others, as in $50 for 3 sausages and $16 for each vegetable side. Grits and cornbread should not be $15 each and green beans $16. Service was good until the restaurant started to fill up which is when our server disappeared for 15 or 20 minutes when we wanted to order another drink. We eventually got the drink, but we were done eating by then. The oysters were fine and the garlic butter appeared to have a sea salt that added to the dish, but there were only 4 small oysters, which was disappointing. Flavor bland on other dishes, although the croquettes, kind of a college mainstay, were tasty. We had a lovely dining experience at the Butcher and the Boar more than once. I can't recall our first server, but on our second visit our server Naseem was great! To start, we shared the grilled cauliflower with harissa, pickled celery, smoked aioli and Red Hot Brussels sprouts with buttermilk ranch. The cauliflower was a bit too burnt for me. We also shared the grilled shrimp but asked to omit fried green tomatoes and requested white bbq sauce, herb salad on the side. In addition to the Asparagus. We forgot to ask to omit the pork. Finally for dessert, I could not resist having the Pineapple upside down cake. It is rare to have this dessert, and it is one of my favorites. I like sweet and this pineapple upside down cake was very delicious! Butcher & The Boar is such a beautiful and very elegant space. MOTHER'S DAY BRUNCH REVIEW We visited for their Mother's Day brunch buffet, and were very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the fare! A family member booked our reservation, so we knew the price ahead of time but not the food lineup. The price was pretty steep, but I knew this place was on the fancier side so hoped it would live up to the cost. And honestly, it did! They have a parking lot which is a HUGE win in the North Loop! It wasn't too packed when we arrived, and we got a really nice big table for our family group. The interior decor is very elevated and classy, again on the higher end side. The buffet was top notch quality, including delicious grits, au gratin potatoes, eggs, sausage, some of the best bacon I've ever had, and freshly sliced prime rib. Each bite was delicious - but with all pretty meat-forward and heavy fare, we filled up fast. Everything on the menu seems to have smoke, spice (heat), or both. Started with the Pimento cheese dip, really good, spicy dip, and we loved the tortilla chips that come with the dip. I ordered the Tri Tip, plenty of smokiness with a Chimichurri that is full of flavor. The meat was so tender but the smoke was almost too much. We also ordered the Sausage Sampler (Cheddarwurst, Green Chorizo, Northern Thai Sausage). Enough sausage to feed a family. The Green Chorizo has plenty of kick. As a side we ordered the Smoked Beef Mac and Cheese. Other than smoke it lacked flavor, and honestly, it was disappointing. Dessert was a Latte and a slice their Hummingbird Cake. The Latte was excellent! The cake was okay, almost on the dry side. In all we were slightly disappointed by our food but it was good enough to go back and try something different from the menu. Service was very good. Super knowledgeable and not afraid to give an honest opinion. I do have to mention the parking. The entire parking lot is "valet". Unfortunately, the valet driver stands inside and collects $10 from everyone that they see park in the lot. So essentially it is $10 parking. Disappointed. There is no better word for this restaurant. First, the service. Multiple times, I had to ask another waiter to find our waiter to get the drink menu after I finished my first drink. When we got the food, the busboy was constantly hovering over our table. And I kid you not, my other guests were still eating, because I finished a bit before them, and the busboy tried to start clearing my plate. After I told them to stop, they hovered around the table for the remainder of the meal. Second, the food. It was decent, but don't expect a symphony of flavor. These are basic dishes overpriced because of the restaurant's location. The chicken tasted like what you would get at any dinner in Minnesota. The meat was bland, and the skin was flimsy. There was real char on the chicken, but the skin was still soft. I don't know how they did that. The waiter told us he would check back in to see how the food was tasting. A must! However, we were done eating and sitting with empty glasses before he came back and asked. Mind you, the water cups were always full, which was a nice touch. Lastly, the ambiance. The vibe was just off. This was once a local, happening restaurant. Now it is a corporate shell of what it once was. They measure every... single... drop... There is no craft. There is "follow this" and "do that." The art is absent from this husk. You are better off going to Butchers Tale, which is just as nice and is run by one of the original owners. In my opinion, it is better. You can even get the big rib there as you would get here, except with better service! Valet parking makes entry easy and seamless--just $10. We had a superb server that handled the entire dinner and was unrushed. He was attentive, kind, and fun. We were celebrating my birthday so went all out and got the $82 Long Rib and it was every bit as good as my memories from the first time I had it. It's definitely shareable so that makes the price a bit more palatable as well. As an appetizer we had the Blue Crab Beignets which were quite tasty. We also had ordered the backed beans which were tremendous but more meat than bean. Truth be told I was a bit hesitant to return here as the prices have definitely gone up in the years since I was last here. To be expected. But in the end i needn't have worried.
