It has been many years since we have been to Manny's Steakhouse and I'm very glad that we returned for our wedding anniversary dinner a couple of days ago because it was perfect for it. The food was delicious and the service was great. We got two side dishes to share and the french fried onions were even better than expected. I was a little disappointed that they were out of the prime rib (since that is usually my preferred cut of meat to go with) but the bone-in ribeye was a great choice for me - super flavorful. The ambiance of this place is phenomenal- you definitely want to have a reservation is place because while it's kind of spendy - this place was packed on a Friday night! The staff is phenomenal in answering questions about the meats. They actually roll out a cart and go over all of the cuts for you which is great for a beginner and they're super knowledgeable for people that want to really dive into the meat! This is a traditional steakhouse experience where nothing is really included with your steak so you'll want to budget some money to paying for sides. One side is enough for two people and definitely feel comfortable talking to your waiter about portions! We had the Brussels sprouts which were phenomenal and loaded baked potatoes and that was more than enough for the four of us. We each had a steak - I had the larger filet mignon and this is where the experience fell flat for me. I felt like the steak was incredibly bland - it came with a bearnaise sauce which helped but I think it might be worth springing for the butter option or something that just adds to the steak. The steak for me would've been a 2 out of 5 stars. We had the Manny's brownie for dessert and that was spectacular. Again - huge portions so one was more than enough for the table. I really think this and the Brussel sprouts were the highlight food wise. This place is not for the budget conscious diner - you're paying for the staff's experience and attention and for some big portions! A friend who frequents Minneapolis occasionally insisted I go there and treated me to dinner. I called and asked about parking before I went there. He Valet with dinner is $20- about same price as an uber. I sat at the bar since I was dining alone and in no hurry. The two male bartenders were super nice and had been working there forever. Locals/others at the bar kept to themselves. I had a perfect dirty martini with blue cheese stuffed olives. I ordered the bone-in ribeye and Mac and cheese. Best steak meal ever. I thought of that steak numerous times over the days I was there. Possibly one of the best steaks of my life. Mac and cheese was death row meal worthy with a layer of melted cheese on top. Absolutely phenomenal! One of those places you'd consider going to for your last meal on earth if you got to choose. Everything from the excellent food to the top tier service and elegant but welcoming ambiance was wonderful! We skipped appetizers because we knew we wanted to save room for the giant portions that were the main courses. I dined here with my family of 4 and almost wished there was more of us so we could try more food without filling the fridge with leftovers. I got the bone-in ribeye with garlic butter which I normally get cooked medium and the server recommended getting medium+ because they cook things less than the typical temperature. Even still I felt like my steak was cooked medium rare. That would be my one complaint from the night is that there is a universal scale at which steaks are cooked, why do it differently? The steak was still delicious though. For sides we got the broccoli with hollandaise and the homemade chips. The homemade chips stole the show, they were perfectly cooked and came with a delicious aoili. My mom got the burger with fries and the consensus was the chips took the prize! For dessert we shared the banana cream pie per our server's recommendation and the key like pie. Both were very good. SO SO GOOD Manny's Steakhouse in Minneapolis is the rare place that makes you wish rating systems went to six stars. A golden buzzer, if you will. I visited twice in the evening and once for breakfast, and not a single note was missed. Everything was FLAWLESS. The martinis were cold, confident, and dangerously dirty. The calamari was crisp and perfectly seasoned. The atmosphere was loud in just he right way: buzzing, celebratory, alive. Breakfast somehow matched the energy. The Bloody Mary was bold and balanced, not a novelty glass of chaos. The eggs Benedict were genuinely mind-blowing and rich, perfectly cooked, and clearly made by people who care deeply about doing classics correctly. After having happy hour in the living room next door (4-6pm) which is a great place for a cheaper drink before dinner, we got a seat at the bar. Ordered a couple of the house red wines, which I don't recommend. Just pay a couple more dollars for the other reds by the glass. We split the burger which was delicious. Covered in French fried onions and it comes out on split plates which each having a side of fries. It's the perfect amount for two. If you have been in before for the burger, they recently changed it from 2 8 oz smash patties to one 10 oz patty at the same price. I wanted to love Manny's, I really did, but for the prices I simply can't afford to go back! I'd much rather dine at Pittsburgh Blue (their sister restaurant) and not leave having to sell a kidney. It would be one thing if the dishes justified the price but unfortunately they don't. The complimentary bread basket was delicious. I like that they offered two different kinds of bread and a cold salted butter. Moving on to the main meal, the hash browns which everyone told me is a "must get" fell so flat. They lacked flavor and salt. The elote corn, which was the special at the time, was good but could stand to be a little more creamy and less spicy. It was tough to make a dent in it because it was too spicy for us. My fried shrimp were way overcooked and left me wishing I just went to Red Lobster instead as they do a better job with their fried shrimp. My husband's steak was cooked nicely but lacked seasoning. Lastly, the bread pudding was fine but the bourbon on top didn't add anything to it. I wish I would have asked for no Maker's Mark poured on top. Even though the food was lack luster, our server was incredible and went very well taken care of. All in all, save some money and visit Pittsburgh Blue! We had reservations for lunch at mannys, surprisingly I have not dined here before (I know it's a staple!) we actually didn't know there was a different menu for lunch and dinner but we were pleasantly surprised with our menu options. We all ordered the NY strip medium rare, some chose broccolini some chose fries and we ordered the loaded hashbrowns to share. Steaks were cooked perfectly with a nice salty char on the edges, the broccolini was the superior option over the fries and don't even get me started on those loaded hashbrowns - oh my gosh, cheesy, crispy, huge fat chunks of bacon and a nice dollop of sour cream and fresh chives - yum yum yum. I've been to Manny's 3 times, twice for dinner and once for lunch. I'm between 3 and 4 starts and going to err a little on the harsh side just because of the price, reputation, and high expectations built up by other Minneapolis folks. The highlight is the presentation where the waiter brings out a bunch of shrink-wrapped steaks and explains the cuts with a comedic presentation. At my most recent visit, my steak was undercooked and I sent it back to finish. Steak sandwich was a good lunch option. I think two of the signature sides, hash browns and glazed/smoked bacon dish are fun but overrated. I was fortunate to have my meal paid for twice at a company event and the other time was for an anniversary dinner when I first moved to the city. Service is great and food is good. Had high expectations for this place since the locals were like wow youre going there!! Extensive wine list, pricey steaks Had a lot of buffalo trace whiskys in their cabinet but none on the menu, so we had to ask if they actually had it (they did) I got the porterhouse Steak was good enough when i got it. Filet side was nice and tender. Ny side was tougher, as could be expected in comparison. However, once the steak cooled off it was not edible. Needless to say i didnt finish it. Sides were ok. We wanted the gratin but the server said it wasnt a good choice. So we got reg loaded mash and hash browns instead. Mash was good. Hash was not. While kinda crispy on the outside, inside was mush. Mushrooms had a good flavor, but then also tasted like charcoal. So if not for that burnt taste it wouldve been nice and buttery. Asparagus was asparagus. Bday dessert was a massive brownie sundae. Brownie was super decadent and fudgey. As far as atmosphere goes. Everyone was crammed in close together to fit as many tables as possible. Thus, it is very noisy. THE BIG: Steakhouse located in the Foshay building in downtown Minneapolis with the birght green sign. Pretty big interior that always seems to be full. Plenty of meat selections ranging from beef to chicken to seafood, but you're really there for the steaks. Valet or public parking garage is available. THE BLACK AND WHITE: We came here on low key Wednesday night and Manny's was still packed! For steak selection, we were first shown by the waiter the meat selection which was intricately displayed. For apps, we got the oysters, asparagus, spinach, bone marrow, potatoes, and mushrooms. Everyone else got their selection of steak. I got a porterhouse to get those two slices of meat. Cooked to perfect medium rare, I gotta say and it goes down nicely with a glass of pinot noir. We had reservations after a long work day. Vibes were high upon entering. Very friendly staff to greet us and take us to our seats. What's really unique is they wheel out a cart and show you every cut of meat and seafood that is on the menu along with the veggies too. We had made our decisions and were ready to eat. I'm sorry but I just do not agree with the hype this place receives. I went with my boyfriend who had been there a few times, and I left disappointed and unimpressed. We ordered our steaks medium, and they came out mooing. Even my boyfriend, who likes it more rare than me, said it was aggressively rare. That, plus the steaks themselves were nothing special, was a red flag. I also think the sides were pretty mid. Nothing stood out, and if you're paying that much, you deserve outstanding food. Manny's is the closest thing Minneapolis has to a New York City steakhouse and honestly this isn't a bad version of it! The Manhattan that I drank to start the meal was lusciously rich and whetted my appetite for a full feast. And that we did- with friendly Midwestern service that remained professional throughout we had a decent Caesar salad, tasty carpaccio, unique scallops with hollandaise and kicked off a pretty okay Bordeaux. Nothing in the first few courses blew me away, but they all hit well enough. Then we got hot with a 24 oz lobster tail and a beautiful porterhouse that were both very good. Nothing was differentiating about them in any way other than they were well executed steakhouse classics. The Mac n cheese to accompany them has a scrumptious crust and played the role of classic steakhouse side. I don't think I'd have cut a single dish, but I did walk away more impressed by the $900 bill after tip than the meal for 3. The steaks are not cheap, but the prices are right right on par with Golden Steer in Las Vegas. They are still quite a bit less expensive than CUT. You know what was not pricey? I love an old school steakhouse. And this place is def old school. We had 6pm dinner reservations which we thought was maybe too early, but this place was slammed when we got in. The restaurant has a buzz that you only get at a steakhouse. Sean was our server. It was his 64th birthday the day we dined (as was my wife's bday). Sean was the consummate professional who took extremely good care of us. We ordered the shrimp cocktail, the wedge salad, Caesar salad, the petit filet mignon, bone in ribeye, their house specialty hash browns , and broccoli with hollandaise on the side. The shrimp cocktail was just how I like it. Extra spicy cocktail sauce and the shrimp were cooked perfectly, not too firm or too soft. The wedge salad was very well done. There must have been 3/4 lb of bacon lardon on this thing. Loved it. The steaks were both exactly as we asked for them: medium rare. Seasoning was beautiful. The hollandaise was creamy and smooth. Sean insisted that we get a piece of cake on the house for my wife's bday, despite our pleas that we were bursting at the seams. Look, steakhouses like this are going to be made like this anymore. We've heard so much about this place so had to try it for our anniversary dinner. This was an awesome restaurant - very upscale and posh! Everything was so fancy. Our server was Tony and he was absolutely wonderful!! He was kind and very genuine and sincere. We're not fancy people and he made us feel very welcomed and comfortable. I loved the complimentary bread and sweet butter brought over to our table along with our cocktail order. They have a wide selection of cocktails, wine and beer. Tony did a little presentation on the different types of meat and seafood options - it was fun to watch! When our food came, he had sliced up the steak and lobster tail for us! Manny's is where expense accounts go for a night out in Minneapolis. As many have pointed out, Manny's is the epitome of a classic steakhouse - large steaks, larger sides, a great wine list, excellent/knowledgeable service and big prices. I have no qualms with any steak I have ever ordered, though the petite filet has become my usual. Sides like the slab bacon and hash browns are good and can feed a small army. The wine list is extensive and has a lot of great choices, though you're better off paying the corkage fee if you have some nice bottles sitting at home. It pains me to write this review, as I have enjoyed Manny's at least half a dozen times since moving to the Twin Cities a decade ago. A week ago I organized a second "guys night out" with my son-in-laws and a golf buddy -- all who love their beef and wine. I brought two lovely Cabs from my modest wine cellar to share, opting to pay the $35/bottle corkage fee instead of the typical 200% surcharge on nice wine, though Manny's has a great wine list by the bottle. First off, service was impeccable throughout our dinner. We were seated in a large booth while the restaurant started to fill after 7 o'clock. Our waiter did a yeoman's job removing a degraded cork from the 2007 Quilceda Creek so we could decant for an hour while sipping the other Conn Creek Cab. Very relaxing, no pressure, lots of good conversation. Between the four of us we ordered two of the 19-oz NY Strips, the 24-oz Ribeye, and a Surf & Turf, along with a side of asparagus and one of mushrooms. Dinner came out remarkably quickly. The sides were large and tasty, though I thought the mushrooms were too salty. The issue was with the steaks. While none of us let our entree get in the way of a good time, we all expressed disappointment of some sort. The NY Strips were surprisingly tough and lacked seasoning. The ribeye was ordered medium-rare, but was rare in the middle (it was also quite fatty, but that's a risk with that cut). The host graciously took it away to re-try, but it was at least 15 minutes before it returned (shorter than it took to receive it in the first place!). While mistakes happen, the recipient also felt that the taste was "oaky" and "off", perhaps as the result of too much or incorrect dry-aging? The 1-lb lobster tail was nicely prepared, however. At over $90 for a steak, we were a bit disappointed, to the point that we may be looking at other steak houses for our next special outing. However, I will likely return at some point to see if this was just an off night or the type of slow slide into mediocrity that I've noticed in a handful of other Minneapolis restaurants the past few years. read more

It's probably been 10 years since I last dined at Manny's. Living in Kansas City, we don't have a highly celebrated local steakhouse of its ilk. Waiting in the lobby before being seated brought back memories of all the photos of celebs who've dined there. And there was the picture of Kim Kardashian from when she was married for 15 seconds to Kris Humphries. Still don't understand why we had to wait 15 minutes in the lobby when the dining room was half full. Oh well! When we got seated in a booth, we met our server, Steve. Sometimes you get the perfect server for a meal and Steve was that. I was in town for the Metallica concerts and Steve had been to some of their earlier shows in Minneapolis. So we bonded over rock and steaks. We started out with Martini's served in those huge Manny glasses. No complaints on quantity from me. Then it was time for the meat cart to arrive and allow Steve to describe the incredible selection of prime meats we could order. Next up were a half dozen oysters, followed by a bone-in ribeye we split, plus a baked potato and steamed asparagus. The thing I love about a place like Manny's is everything seems so well coordinated. Your water glass never goes empty. We finished the oysters and a few minutes later our meal arrives. Then an assistant shows up to cut the steak for us. The steak was phenomenal, perfectly prepared and oh so tender. We actually tried to convince Steve to join us at the concert, but as a three-year veteran at Manny's, he didn't think that would set well with the bosses.
