Now the bad news this last go around I spent $ 1,200.00 on some major repairs on one of my homes. They are big on just buy this or that bring it back if you don't need it. Anyways I had 3-4 things to bring back. Turned into a big hassle and I had purchased them over a week while I was up there. They gave me cash on two smaller items. Would not give me back on two items cash said the register will only process them as gift cards " what the heck " I have major brain surgery during which I had a stroke. I over the years Lost more cards than I have used. They could not explain it to me on common sense level only that once the register does that they can't reverse it. I was not happy I mean we are talking about $ 76.00. They said they would go get the manager and of course the manager was busy. They need to tell people oh just bring it back for a refund oh by the way it might be in the form of a gift card which when the person loses it to bad. I am stopping down the hill the next week at Home Depot first such a shame I can't buy and support crestline businesses. The tab probably will be around $ 500.00 this next time. Shame shame shame :(

She also seems disgruntled when I ask where an item is. She is unpleasant all around to deal with and makes me dread having to get something here.

He told me of its compatibility with another more "readily available" line of faucets. He seemed to know a lot about plumbing. It turns out he is the owner. He and everyone I have dealt with there are very approachable, helpful, and knowledgeable. This is now my go to store for all my DIY projects. Their selection is remarkable and the staff just seem to enjoy their job. It is 20 miles from home, but it is exactly what needs to be. After we said that, our mom got involved, loudly repeating what we had originally said. He quickly walked away from us, head down, trying to avoid what he had just done. I had an absolutely awful experience with this flooring company and would never recommend them to…read moreanyone. From the very beginning, the process was stressful and unprofessional. They asked for a deposit upfront and said the rest would be due once the job was finished but the owner kept asking for more money every few days throughout the project. It felt like they were more focused on getting paid than doing the job correctly. I have a large home, and they repeatedly ordered less material than needed, which caused constant delays. I had to go back and forth with them far more than any customer ever should. Even after all that, the quality of the work was terrible. As you can see in my photos, the floors are cracking, there are gaps between the vinyl planks, and it's clear they did not check if the subfloor was level before installing. The carpet seams are also visible. They didn't put any trim molding between the carpet and vinyl floor. When I contacted Tom about the issues, he told me to send the pictures to his daughter. I did, but they never replied and never came back to fix the problems. It has only been three years, and I now have to completely tear out the flooring and replace it all over again. They rushed through the installation just to get the job done and collect the money, without any real care for quality or long-term results. Save yourself the headache and avoid this company at all costs.

If you have any solidarity with people who work for a living. Doing a task with no thanks or benefits, please do so with the guys who work at the Lucerne Valley branch of this company. They aren't paid much (less than $10.00 an hour), receive little in the way of tips or other compensation and have to deal with on of the worst managers I've even encountered for their supervision. Doing your job with an arrogant, condescending, less than caring manager who feels he's better than everyone (including the customers, he's from Big Bear, so you folks from Lucerne are: "lesser than" in his "high and mighty opinion) isn't the best of work atmospheres. Basically, all I'm saying is, show some thanks to the employees who have to deal with this miscreant and craven company in general, they are the ones who do the real work. The "manager" might take credit for it, but trust me, he's pretty much worthless. Thank Kim, Nancy, Izzy and the Truss workers if anything is done right around that place, it sure wasn't the one in charge who made it happen. :) read more

There are very few hardware stores in big bear, but butchers block is my favorite. They have a large selection of hardware, house hold appliances, tools, most of your construction needs, they even have decorative duck tape! If your thirsty for a cold soda and little snack after work, butchers block is the place to go. The staff is very friendly and eager to help. They have a great selction of paint, they also make keys if your locked out of your house and/or car, they will make you a spare key. Their hours monday - friday are 7:00 - 5:30 saturday 8:00 - 5:00 sunday 8:00 - 4:00. read more

i've had to run down for misc hardware for my husband frequently over the years, and Butcher Block remains my go to place. They are knowledgeable and helpful. The guys out back have always gone above and beyond for me, and offered to make custom cuts for misc lumber we've purchased, even though not required to do so. Just a helpful friendly place that never makes you feel stupid even when asking stupid questions, which I do often. :-) read more

This review is specifically for Allen.... We had a back yard project that need some serious manpower and Allen volunteered to help out. Allen not only stayed until the job was complete, but did it with a smile on his face. With employees like this, Butcher Block is the only hardware and lumber store that we use in Big Bear. I've always found the post's personnel pleasant and competent, quickly directing me to the aisle of an item I can't locate (if not actually personally walking me over to its whereabouts). Additionally, in some cases, they will also let me know if they are running low on an item that I may be needing more than one of since the current inventory is limited to what's out on the shelf. This was the case with some fly traps I came in for on my most recent visit. (I guess flies are a problem in the general area at present). Prices are competitive and I can often find multiple choices at different price points. The only thing in recent memory that I couldn't find there was an Adventure Pass for parking along the forest's roadsides or trailheads - but several of the other local businesses that used to carry them also no longer do, as well. Don't neglect visiting here first if in need of a certain piece of hardware. The store is not as big as the major chains by any means, but there's a good chance you'll find what you need without going down the mountain. That's a good thing to be aware of - especially when dealing with an emergency repair!
