Awful! We stopped because we were hungry and it was crowded. The food had absolutely no flavor. The chips were horribly stale.

This place is on par with Taco Bell but it's three times more expensive! Not worth the price. Kinda wanted to vomit it out when I was done but it was $11 for a burrito smaller than Taco Bell. Terrible. The Barq's root beer was good though. read more

Made our annual pilgrimage to Butch's for Sunday sunset on the pier in Grand Haven. I had the bean burrito with mild peppers and 3 alarm sauce. My wife had the veggie burrito and 2 alarm. Ate mine and finished hers. Felt the 3 Alarm burn for another 15 minutes and savored it. For all those haters on Butch's because it's not their idea of a Mexican restaurant or burrito - take a flying leap! Butch's is Butch's; their beach burrito is THEIR beach burrito - not someone else's. Butch's is a classic and we still miss Butch taking our order - may he rest in peace. Great Cali vibes. Solid food but portions are a little small for the price. Tacos were tasty and we enjoyed sitting at the outdoor tables.

Location location location. The ONLY reason there is traffic at Butch's. Sad, because it is a waste of a fabulous location and a huge opportunity. To like these burritos is testament to having no experience w a genuine burrito or to know the first thing about quality Mexican food. Again, a waste! What passes a burrito is ridiculously marginal. Burger meat, lousy unadorned shells straight from the plastic package, half-filled, no quality extras, overpriced and fully disappointing. The kind of "burrito" your Dutch mother would have served, having no clue what Mexican food is, the day after she served an Italian meal where ketchup went on while spaghetti noodles. Usually don't give bad reviews but I was always wondering why this place has very little reviews AND it's never packed considering the prime location it has. I knew the answer but wanted to find out and found out I did. First of all the customer service. It wasn't there. The ladies expected you to know exactly what you wanted. Didn't want to help at all. I hate feeling frustrated when ordering. Now the food. I ordered the famous beef and bean. Let me tell you that it's not a burrito. It's basically a big soft shell taco. That's it. Barely any beef and beans. Mostly soggy veggies. I'm sorry. Beach Burritos bring up memories of SoCal and huge explosive mission style burritos. Nope. Not here. So much potential though. read more

Gotta say - don't really get the high rating this place has so far (currently a 4). I had a beef burrito supreme - it was fine. Not good, not bad... ok. Husband had beef burrito and he did not like it. (He pondered how the beef got to the particular color that it was.) Since they sell their bottle salsa, I'm assuming that's well liked around the area - and it did seem good. Service was good. Location was good. The fact that they have a parkiing lot with available parking in it is a double bonus - makes it easy to go there. Would I return? No, don't think so. Would I recommend? Probably not. read more

People!!! These negative reviews are ridiculous. Butch's is not your typical "Mexican" restaurant, nor does it try to be. Butch's is just Butch's. Opened and unchanged since the late ''80: (Ok, they dropped the 4 alarm source about 30 years ago and I've almost forgiven them). They have the same thin tortillas that must be almost hard to find these days, but that's part of what makes Butch's a one of a kind . I have only ever gotten the veggie burrito with the 3 alarm sauce, and I love it. The mix of beans and veggies is yummy, topped off by Butch's tasty and unique 3 alarm sauce on that tender tortilla. This place is located down the main road headed to Grand Haven State Park. The food is okay and ranges from tacos to burritos, hot dogs, and other treats. Prices are fairly inexpensive. There is also a selection of frozen non-alcoholic drinks to try which are nice on a warm sunny day. The place itself is tiny. The tables to eat at are located outside, or you can take a short walk back to the boardwalk and eat on one of the many benches there. The menu is posted right when you walk in, and they also have a selection of salsas to choose from you can buy to take home. For myself,I ordered a beef supreme burrito. I requested the spiciest salsa they had and extra sour cream. The only bizarre element, my burrito had was that inside of it pepperoncinis and olives were added which I wasn't a huge fan of. Overall, food came out quickly and owners were extremely friendly. Food, was okay, I won't be running back anytime soon, but if in the area and forget to pack a lunch, I will definitely make a return trip! read more

I paid $7 to get a cold, doughy tortilla with what I assume to be warmed up canned chicken with some lettuce and salsa. The picture below is an example of their beef taco that I also purchased. Fast, cheap eats, yes. Mexican food - not sure I would call it that. Had a chicken and cheese burrito - which was shredded chicken, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and salsa (choose mild, medium, or hot). Less a burrito and more a thin roll-up/wrap inside a slightly gritty, flour tortilla. Salsa was sweet. Did I enjoy it? Sure. A companion had the chips and salsa which were yellow round chips (think stadium nachos) with a side of the salsa. Not bad - just not authentic Mexican. Food comes out very fast. They also sell hot dogs. I think the phrase "beach burritos" perfectly sums up the food - so they did a great job naming the place. $30 for 3 burritos, 1 taco, a bottle of water, 1 chip and salsa and 1 chip and cheese. I really, really love Butch's! I grew up in Grand Haven and this place has been around since I was little. This is not Mexican food, so those who are expecting authentic Mexican will be disappointed. This place is in a class by itself...I've never had anything like it. It is one of the few food things that I miss about West Michigan because there is absolutely no way that I can replicate it at home. There is just something about the tortillas and the sauce (you get a choice of 1, 2, or 3 on a hotness scale), the lettuce and the cheese, the guacamole. How do they do it? My favorite is the vegetarian burrito minus sour cream with number two sauce and a side of guacamole and chips. The food aside, everyone who works there is so friendly. They have a good little assembly line going, so you never have to wait too long for your food - and this also makes the line going out the door not as scary. It will go fast - don't worry. And the prices aren't bad either! When I was younger, my only complaint was that this place was only open in the summers. But now that they've opened a second location a stone's throw over in Spring Lake that is open year-round and tastes just as terrific, I've got nothing. AGAIN - and this is important - do not expect traditional Mexican fare. This is just weirdo townie beach food made just as much (if not more) for the locals than for the tourists visiting the State Park down the street. They serve hot dogs in tortillas for crying out loud. So open your mind and treat yourself to Butch's. Lord knows it's the first thing I do every time I go back up to Michigan! read more

Terrible! My husband was excited to try this place while we vacationed in Grand Haven, MI because of all the positive reviews on Yelp. Butch's Beach Burritos is definitely overrated! There is nothing authentic about this place and the food doesn't even taste good. If you want the worst interpretation of tacos and burritos you will like this place...it's just not my thing. The chicken and beef tacos were bland even with salsa and the best part of lunch were the chips. This place is not good, even for a little shack on the beach. I stopped in and for a veggie burrito plus a side order of chips and guac. For a place that only has tacos, burritos and hot dogs on the menu, they Butch-ered mine; the burrito was split open on one end and falling apart on the other. Nothing to the food, a lot of beans, rice, and some pickled peppers. The $3 guac container wasn't even half full but it was fully devoid of flavor. I had a beef burrito here. Not only it was as skinny as taquitos, the beef was actually ground beef, and only beans and cheese inside. This place does not even have mexican rice. I am used to authentic mexican food, so this place was a big surprise for me. My friends from this area say that this place is so good. I feel sorry for those people for not knowing good authentic mexican food. There was nothing wrong with the service though. read more

The only reason I'm not giving a full five stars is because my burrito got very soggy very quickly.
