No complaints about the delicious Mexican food we got at El Huarache in Holland, Michigan. The founder is from Oaxaca, Mexico, and is still works at a cook at the restaurant- his daughter and grandson help run the business too! I got a carnitas gordita (a thicker tortilla sliced in half and filled), and an al pastor taco. My boyfriend and I split a 32oz horchata. My family got various tacos and burritos which they all enjoyed. Indoor and outdoor seating is available- you order at a counter and they bring the food to you. read more

Sooo good. We ate outside! We had tacos- chicken and steak, Gordita- pork and pineapple, chicken quesadilla, El huarache pork and pineapple, and steak burrito. Pork and pineapple has great flavor and really enjoyed my first ever Gordita. We ordered some chips and guac. Excellent guacamole. This is authentic Mexican. They do have the option of corn tortillas or flour tortillas. Authentic tacos or American tacos. Authentic all the way! Service was excellent. Helpful and friendly. There's 4-5 booths inside. El Huarache...where the good food is really good, and if it isn't good, it's probably not worth ordering. Vacationing near here brought us in for a Tuesday lunch. Camarón tacos Mexican style - delicious! You'll have no regrets. The masa tortillas were special homemade goodness, probably the best corn tortillas I've ever had! Husband ordered beef tacos American style and seemed happy. Chips - Stale, pass on these. Guacamole - Tasted old, save $7. Frijoles - Ok if you want to add a bit more protein to your meal, but texture was whipped? Horchata - glad I ordered as I love horchata, but I've have better. Service also needs improvement. Had to go to counter as drinks, chips, and guac was missing from what was delivered to our table, even after we finished the tacos it still wasn't delivered. If I *only* orders tacos & horchata, this would be 4 stars for sure. Also worth noting - this has been our most expensive meal on vacation! Idk how that happened, so stick to the tacos so you and your wallet will be happy! read more

Probably one of the best authentic Mexican taco places in Holland. They have fair prices and great service. The dining area is small, but they open up the outdoor seating in the summer. We loved the Birria and chorizo tacos, but they have lots of other great options. read more

The Holland area has several restaurant options for good tacos and this is one of them. The inside dining area is small, but there is ample seating (with covering) just outside which is where I posted up and smashed this meal. The steak tacos were as simple but delicious as ever. Corn tortillas, cilantro, onion and this time....steak. I also got a side of beans and rice. If I'm being picky, I could say the portion of rice and beans was small, but I'm not being picky right now. It was a nice little lunch outside on a beautiful sunny summer day in Holland. We stopped at this small restaurant on a whim while heading home from the lake shore, and it was an excellent choice! At their permanent location, all their seating is outside, so make sure to go when the weather is nice. It looks like they also have a food truck, so keep an eye out if you're at a local festival. Meghann and I both got their Birria Tacos combo, and they were delicious! I highly recommend getting a bottled Coke or Jarritos to go with it. HOLY SHIT (can I say shit?!) ...this place is AMAZING. we ended up here after we realized the couple other Mexican places in the town we were staying in were already closed. SO glad we made the drive to el huarache. they had everything birria, and were huge birria fans so we had trouble deciding what to try. my husband got the birria pizza, I got the loaded birria fries, my kids got a quesadilla and older kid got chicken tacos. every freaking bit of it was delicious. the guy that took our order was helpful, super down to earth and friendly too. the inside was decorated with Mexican flags and anime stuff, which is right up our alley. nos encanto como se llevaron los trabajadores con los clientes y entre ellos mismos. spanglish galore. we felt right at home and would return a zillion times if we lived closer. so happy our detour led us here!! read more

This is definitely authentic Mexican food. We went to this restaurant based on the great reviews and we weren't disappointed! From the outside you wouldn't think much of this place, but the food is amazing! We came here during COVID-19 and decided to get a carry out. The outside does have seating available but no indoor seating. You stand at a carry out window to place your order. They bring the food out to you when it's ready. I ordered a vegetable burrito and I got it wet meaning red sauce and cheese melted on top. It was humongous- seriously- look at my photo! It filled the entire carry out box! My friend ordered the enchilada dinner and it came with three enchiladas, rice and beans. We also ordered a small guacamole and chips. The small is a pretty generous order so I ended up saving most of my burrito for leftovers! I would definitely come here again and next time I will be prepared for the large portions read more

Surprised that this eatery had so many high ratings. The steak burrito was surprisingly bad. I couldn't tell if the steak was steak or chunks of ground, dried out beef. Limp lettuce, a few piece of diced tomato, and about a 1/8 cup of onions - nothing special - and small in quantity. My husband liked his quesadilla. He gave it a B+. read more

We had the green and red salsa for the tacos. salsa us could have a better flavor and texture but overall everything was great. BEST TOSTADA I EVER ATE! El Huarache is a GEM of lakeshore Mexican eats. Authentic and always prepared fresh, I never hesitate when hankering for a tostada. Tortilla is crunchy and sweet and really holds its shape while you teeter-totter that beauty through a full bite. My faves are the al pastor tostadas: piled high with juicy pork, crispy lettuce, tomatoes, and crumbles of wonderful cheese. Add chips and salsa to make a meal, and wash it all down with one of EH's fresh made Mexican beverages. Sure, they've got tacos and other greats, too. Save room for dessert, though. EH carries locally made Mexican popsicles in a WHOLE BUNCH of flavors. They range from fruity to sweet--I really dig the mint oreo (try it!). I live only a mile or so away, so I'll often bring some home and keep them in the freezer. Outdoor seating is plentiful, but not so much indoors. If it's cold or rainy, get yours to go. I've ordered by phone plenty of times and brought home EH's delectable goodness. Locals and visitors to Holland agree, El Huarache is not to be missed. Their birria pizza and birria tacos with consomé are to die for! it's the best authentic place to get Mexican food. Service is great and speedy and everyone's always nice. It is a smaller building and doesn't have a whole lot of inside seating but it does have good outdoor seating. read more

This cute little hut in Holland is all you need after a long day at the beach! We stopped here to check it out, since my Yelpy friends obviously recommended the place :) We order chips, pico, and cheese dip. The chips were crunchy, not too greasy and lightly salted. They were pretty great actually. The pico was perfect, sweet and savory, lots of onions, fresh green peppers, and lime. The cheese dip had great flavor, but you can see the grease rising to the top which is a turn off, but hey whatever, it's cheese. It also had pieces of roasted red peppers which was a nice surprise. I also ordered tacos de lengua (beef tongue tacos). This is my Mexican test of authenticity. They were OK, very fatty. The pieces were cut up had lots of fat. Beef toungue needs to be cut in slightly larger chunks and the fat trimmed off a bit. The green sauce and salsa on the table were very good! I also ordered a natural watermelon pineapple drink that was very refreshing! The service was also good, friendly staff but I did feel a little rushed. It could just be me because I like to take my time when I dine out. I would come back to try some of their other tacos and have one of their paletas (popsicles) :) read more

I'm from the west coast and have been seeking authentic Mexican food. This place is it, hands down!!! I drove from Grand Haven to try it and I'll be a regular now, I'm telling you! My friend had the birria tacos and I had elote and chilaquiles. My first bite and I was in heaven!!! Not to mention, the staff was SO friendly, it felt like home. Tiny hidden gem on the north side of Holland. If you're ever driving past, read the billboard for a quick chuckle. There's plenty of space to enjoy your food outside (or even in your car). The food portions are huge. I got chicken flautas with rice and beans. I barely made it to the second flauta. My friends and I also treated ourselves to some of the homemade ice cream bars. There's a variety to choose from whether you want something refreshing or you need to satisfy a sweet tooth. Since Spring is here, pick a nice sunny day and put the kids in the car. Fantastic, authentic Mexican food. Vibe - Pretty unassuming spot, but outdoor seating is nice. They did a good job of making it comfortable even on a busy street. - As said by others, the menu is a bit confusing but it doesn't take too long to figure out. Food -Carne Asada Gordita and al pastor tacos were definite winners. I'll order those again. -Pico was good. Limey, spicy, it didn't feel super fresh but that's okay. -Chicken quesadilla was a miss. Just my preference but I didn't love the shredded chicken, it just didn't have much flavor. -Mangonada was awesome, their frozen treats are not to be missed. Service -Solid, quick, no nonsense. One downside was all the styrofoam / plastic / foil waste. We ate outside on site and our order was packed like a to-go order. It's a small complaint, but all the extra packaging felt wasteful. I ordered The carnitas burrito. I asked about the size of it ( wondering if I could share, and was assured it was a "normal" size. Well, it was HUGE! More than enough for two people! ***THEY'RE CASH ONLY NOW*** El Huarache was my first foray into Mexican food in Michigan. I've been let down by the midwest Mexican food before, so I treaded carefully. But, El Huarache was FANTASTIC. First, the service was super friendly - I ignorantly asked what Jamaica (like the Carribean country as opposed to ha-mai-ca) was and the guy didn't even bat an eye at the butchering of this wonderful drink's name (it was very tasty by the way). We ordered guac & chips as well as tacos. The chips are SO cheap - only $1?! That's what I'm talking about! Guac was $5, so that was pretty reasonable as well. Onto the tacos, the lengua was FANTASTIC. They were well-seasoned cubes. I tried one of the cubes by themselves and it was very tender. Al pastor was just okay. It's not to say that it wasn't good, I've just had better. Also, they give you the option of corn or flour tortillas. Corn, of course! Chips, guac, horchata, jamaica, & 5 tacos ran us $22. Met a few co-workers here for lunch and it did not disappoint! Food was fresh, hot, and authentic! Our group was larger than they are probably used too but our food was ordered and served in a timely manner. The gentleman taking orders was knowledgeable about the menu and offered suggestions for those of us who were having a difficult time deciding on what to get. Authentic delicious and reasonably priced Mexican food! My husband and I came on a Sunday around noon and had about a ten minute wait to be seated. We ordered chips, the pollo enchiladas and a pollo burrito. The chips came out warm and perfect! They were so crispy, salty and yummy! The enchiladas were SO flavorful and the burrito was delicious as well. Portion sizes were large and you get a lot of food for the price! The place is quaint with only 4 tables and the atmosphere is nothing special -- just delicious food which is all we were hoping for!
