    Marbled Cornbread Scramble

Fabulous place for great food and nice vibes. The staff were very friendly and fun. I got the Marbled Cornbread Scramble with mushrooms instead of bacon and my partner got the blue corn cakes. Great options/substitution possibilities for vegetarians. I would absolutely go back.

Enjoyed my time @ Morning Star Cafe! Really cute spot. The chorizo hash was tasty and perfect portion size. The mango mimosa was a nice touch as well. Love this spot. My waitress Lark was friendly and attentive to the customers. She added to the experience. Recommend this place!

This is a local favorite. But if you're not local, let me give you a review. I have mixed feelings about this place. First off let me point out that there is no private parking lot for this place. This is no big deal if you're from a bigger city like GR, Chi or NYC. But if you're from a smaller town like Muskegon, Coopersville or Fremont where every business has their own private lot this might be a major inconvenience to you. park across the street or on the street if you can find a spot. I was patronizing MSC on a very cold day. This old location has no air lock on the front door, so everytime it opens to let customers exit or enter....the cold air rushes in. Keep that in mind when choosing your table. The restaurant has a warehouse feel to it, similar to the Blue Porch on Beacon Blvd. If you like that style....great. If not you have to deal with acoustics, and a cold drafty feeling, especially in the Winter. Food was actually in line with other restaurants in town unless you want to start getting fancy with the "specials." Believe me, those specials are very popular. Especially the waffle/pancake dishes that are similar to a super sweet dessert at 2000 calories. The last time I was there, the server was friendly, but because of the layout of the dining room, they have a hard time keeping an eye on the tables. So getting a coffee refill or a request for something becomes a waiting game. Overall the food is presented very well and is tasty.

Waited nearly an hour to be seated and nearly another hour for food since the kitchen was backed up. Food is good but I'm not sure it's worth that long of a wait. We enjoyed two omelettes and a cinnamon roll. The cinnamon roll was 10/10 great amazing fantastic but the omelettes were just okay. Omelettes didn't have the veggies/meats cooked with the eggs and instead just filled the middle so they kinda just fell out and made it hard to eat. Cute place inside

We came in for brunch on Sunday 12/29/24 around 12:35pm. There was a 30ish minute wait - as usual, but we were able to sit at the counter right away. Maggie took great care of us. She was so chill and smiley. I had the Corned Beef Hash with 2 over easy eggs and sourdough toast. He had his usual/favorite Marbled Cornbread Scramble. We love Morning Star, highly recommend!

Just go. Shut up and go....if there is a long line, just wait it out. Go look at Bookmans. Then go eat here. Top breakfast place anywhere. It's because of the food - and that's their main point.

Absolutely fantastic breakfast spot. We waited for about 15 minutes at 8am (i thought we would be early but I guess not lol). We started off with coffees and a cinnamon roll. The coffee was great and the cinnamon roll was amazing so goey, warm, and the frosting was spot on. We got the breakfast quesadilla and breakfast burrito with pineapple salsa. Both were fantastic. If you're looking for something with more crunch then the breakfast quesadilla would be your choice. I would have added the pineapple salsa to the quesadilla. There were so many things on the menu to pick from and there is no doubt we would definitely come back.

We arrived mid morning and were able to find street parking right outside the restaurant. We gave our name, was told it would be 20 minutes (they were packed) and 20 minutes later we got notification that our table was ready. The decor is super cute, mosaics of Fiesta ware on the walls. Tables and booths are good size. Our waitress convinced us to try a cinnamon roll as an appetizer to our breakfast, we caved. It came out hot and gooey-baked to perfection. We split it into quarters and each had a quarter before breakfast and boxed the rest to eat on the road later. Our breakfast came out shortly after and was amazing. I had the Denver omelet with potatoes and rye toast. All was delicious. The little pile of pineapple salsa is a refreshing surprise. My daughter had scrambled eggs, potatoes, and wheat toast. She couldn't stop talking about the potatoes, they are SO good! I highly recommend giving this restaurant a try, you will not be let down. Great location, wonderful service, and yummy food.

Visiting and happy to have found such an amazing spot for breakfast! I started with the coffee house blend of the day - Java Sea Salt Mocha - and was very pleased with it! Two of us split the Breakfast Quesadilla and the Stuffed French Toast! The Quesadilla - with chorizo was amazing, and the french toast was the best I have ever had - the bread was like a cinnamon roll and the raspberry and cream cheese filling was epic. We had an easy time finding street parking and being immediately seated and served on a Monday morning. The ambiance is really cool - a lot of eccentric art to take in. All in all, a 5/5 and we may come back tomorrow before we head out of town because we loved it so much!

We decided to stop in for breakfast based on all the great yelp reviews. We stopped in early Sat morning and we had a very short wait. I had one Michigan blueberry pancake. One was more than enough, it was huge!! My husband had the Denver omelet. They provide a pot of coffee for the table, which is always nice and you do not see much anymore. I noticed many people had tea and it was served in beautiful tea pots. Our server was great and very attentive. A wonderful breakfast experience.

Full belly. Great service. Cozy atmosphere. I was in town for a couple of days. I came here for a breakfast that would really fill my belly for a day of enjoying the outdoors. My breakfast definitely fit the book (and didn't break the bank!) I had a fluffy omelet with potatoes, bacon, and biscuit. The coffee was dinne of the best I've had - that piping hot, bold-flavored diner coffee! But I left room for a cinnamon roll. I'm a sucker for a cinnamon roll, but only really good ones. This was one of the best I've had. It was huge, so I didn't finish it, but I packed it up and smacked on it later in the day.

How do people get ahold of the restaurant? Every time i call its a bad number and cant even call to say im here to get my order?

I just called and they answered- 616-844-1131

Does anyone know what roaster their coffee is? Went 2 days in a row for breakfast when I was in Grand Haven and I can't stop thinking about the dark roast. Would love to buy some if possible

The dark roast (which is from Herman's Boy in Rockford, MI) is made especially for Morning Star. They are the only place that carries that blend. You can buy the beans or grounds at Morning Star!

Today we had the kids smash burger, Brussels burger with frites and fried haddock and frites with a delicious coleslaw. The best part? Different sauces to choose to dip the fries in. The curry ketchup was the best (special shout out for *actually* cooking the curry into the ketchup) as it did not taste of raw curry. They definitely don't cut corners here. She also whips up the custom, creative mimosa recipes, kudos to her for her awesomeness! I ordered the Shakshuka, flavorful, delicious, would order again. Even as a non-vegan, it was satisfying and would recommend to everyone. Husband had the 1964 Worlds Fair Waffle, and it was tiny. Not what you envision when you think of Belgian waffles. He also ordered the Belgian Forest Bacon, again VERY small portion, so much so that at the end of the meal, he had to order a side of the Smashed Maple Sausage. Both our drinks (I had the mimosa) were fantastic and worth ordering, loved the glassware! Aside from the small portions of waffle, bacon, and sausage, the cheerful vibes here are contagious, and I'd dine here again in a heartbeat!

Rainy Day has outside dining, but it was a rather chilly morning, so everyone was eating inside. The place was crowded, but we managed to find a lone table tucked in the corner. We visited Rainy Days Café the weekend before the Fourth of July and had a wonderful experience. The food was excellent, and the service was fantastic. That's exactly why we decided to come back for breakfast on the Fourth of July. We arrived around 11:05 a.m. and were seated just after a table of 12. Our waitress, who was incredibly sweet and kind throughout the entire experience, told us she was able to get our order into the kitchen before the large party. Shortly afterward, a table of seven and then a table of six were seated outside after us. A while later, the owner personally came to our table to apologize and explained that our ticket had been lost and our breakfast had never been made. We really appreciated her honesty and the fact that she came out herself to explain what happened. At that point, we weren't upset because we understand mistakes happen, especially in a busy, family-owned restaurant on the Fourth of July. While we continued waiting, our waitress refilled our coffee, and we asked if we could have a cinnamon roll while waiting for our breakfast. It wasn't meant to replace our meal--just something to hold us over since we'd already been waiting quite a while. The owner later returned and very graciously told us our breakfast would be complimentary because we had been waiting nearly two hours. We appreciated that gesture. Unfortunately, the wait continued. During that time, the table of seven and the table of six--both seated after us--received and finished their meals while we still had nothing. With about 15 minutes left before closing, we finally went inside and asked if they could simply make our breakfast to go. That's when everyone realized there had been another misunderstanding. Our waitress had thought that when we asked for the cinnamon roll, we had decided that was all we wanted, so our breakfast order had been canceled--even though it had never actually been made in the first place. I truly believe this was an honest miscommunication, not a lack of caring. Our waitress remained kind and attentive the entire time, and the owner did everything she could once she realized the original mistake. Unfortunately, a series of communication breakdowns resulted in us sitting in the restaurant for over two hours, watching at least 30 people who arrived after us receive their meals, before ultimately leaving hungry and having to find another place to eat. This was incredibly disappointing because we know how good this restaurant can be. We will likely give Rainy Days Café another chance because our previous visit was so positive, and I genuinely believe this was an unfortunate chain of mistakes rather than a reflection of the people who work there. I hope they can use this experience to improve communication between the front of the businesss and the kitchen because the food is worth coming back for, and the staff clearly cares about their customers.

To me all it looks like they did was tear out the carpeting, put in laminante and painted the walls. The same old tables remain as do the uncomfortable counter stools. No art work on the walls yet. I ordered a country breakfast. ($13), 2 small eggs, ham, American fries. What's interesting is the American Fries were basically deep fried chunks of potatoes. Different than what other restaurants around this area call AF. Also other restaurants ask if you want onions in the potatoes, here they don't since they are basically similar to French fries.
