Cute bakery in the east village. I stopped by for an afternoon pick-me-up on a Saturday and the tables we're full but it wasn't overly crowded and the drinks were served quickly. The iced hojicha latte was great and I was excited to see it on the menu. I wish they didn't charge an extra $1 for oat milk but I guess that's the world we're living in. I was so moved by the owner's story about why he opened the bakery, which is so that he can help provide for his son with a disability. The owner was serving at the front, and he seems tired but very nice. The ambiance is young, and lively. The decorations are of the happy colors in fully bright yellow. I have passed this bakery multiple times because I take the m15 bus on a regular basis. Now that I finally visited - I think they have better cream puffs than Beard Papa's Fresh Baked Japanese Cream Puffs! The cream puffs are such wonderful delights!! Heavenly! So good. I love how not super sweet they are like the general American sweet pastry. It's just the right number of bites and creams. Lovely. I tried the black sesame (Aka Goma) and the matcha ones. The cream puffs are generous and buttery, you want a dos one! These are $3.75 each but man they are probably the best cream puffs I have had in a while. Great for a midday or after dinner dessert! I was there around 7:30 today on a Sunday, and they were open until 9. There's seating for maybe 10 people and it's very yellow tiles and cutesy! They were goooooood - smaller than I expected at first but I'd definitely get them again. My favorite was the rose lychee which was VERY surprising to me because I usually don't like rose. This was the most refreshing cream puff I've had especially during this NYC heat. I highly recommend everyone come for a cool refreshing bite of a cream puff at Butter Dose. Their menu of cream puffs range from Ube Coconut to Tiramisu. An extra plus about their menu is that they breakdown, explain each cream puff and what's inside. For example, I ordered a Chocolate Banana which has a caramelized banana on top and banana slice inside mixed with the cream. This was too pretty to eat that I had to snap multiple pics to capture it. Once I took that first messy bite, I was surprised how cool and refreshing it was. I'm aware these need to be refrigerated to keep cool but sometimes it can dull the flavor and taste more like a refrigerated/chilled item. But not Butter Dose, it keeps it that cool level while still maintain that flavorful taste and looks pretty for a mini foodie photoshoot. Also the decor of the space was such a vibrant yellow and chill lounge spot with the various decoration of vacation destination items. We had high hopes for Butterdose, especially with a name that promises rich, buttery pastries--but sadly, it didn't deliver. We tried their cream puffs (Ube and Sriracha Mango) and a croissant, and everything was seriously underwhelming. The Ube puff was barely flavored--so light it bordered on bland. As for the Sriracha Mango, the flavor combo was confusing at best and just didn't work. It felt like a gimmick that didn't go through enough testing. The croissant was the biggest letdown. For a place with "butter" in the name, there was a noticeable lack of it. No flakiness, no rich, indulgent flavor--just dry and forgettable. I've had better croissants from Costco. I had this cute cafe saved in my want-to-go list and it was worth the trip! They have a large selection of desserts and pastries to choose from but the mini cream puffs are definitely the star of the show with so many unique flavors to try. Butter Dose has been popping up all over my social media lately and I was excited to finally try their famous cream puffs when I was in the neighborhood! As someone who has gluten-free dietary restrictions, I was very pleasantly surprised to realize that all of their cream puffs were safe for me to eat! My friend and I came later in the afternoon on a weekend and as a tip, I would definitely try to go earlier rather than later. There were already a bunch of flavors that were sold out in the display case, unfortunately. We ended getting 3 to try: mango sago, strawberry matcha, and rose lychee. I had really wanted to try their black sesame but I guess I'll just have to return some other time. Overall, I really can't complain - these cream puffs weren't out of this world but they were still quite good as a little afternoon pick-me-up for my sweet tooth. The cream puffs are a bit on the smaller side and the dough was softer and chewier than you'd likely expect, with the caveat that all of them were filled pretty impressively with cream which may have also impacted the texture of the dough a little bit. My favorite out of the three was the strawberry matcha, since the strawberry was so sweet and juicy and had a really nice contrast with the matcha cream. The mango sago and rose lychee flavors were both good as well, but they were just a little bit more "one-dimensional" compared to the strawberry matcha. The rose flavor was definitely noticeable though! We also conveniently visited the place on National Ice Cream day where they were having a 50% sale on their ice cream scoops - we ended up trying out their jasmine flavor. This was not it I fear... it honestly tasted like soap. Definitely would skip the ice cream (at least the jasmine flavor) and focus on the cream puffs! The interior of the shop is also super cute and they even had personalized tote bags and stickers with their cute logo! Seating can be limited depending on what time you go. read more

Butter Dose is an aptly named East Village bakery putting Asian twists on French pastries. They have so much promise in their little photogenic storefront. Gorgeous cream puffs beckon from the pastry case in flavors like yuzu, orange wasabi, and rose lychee, the likes I've mostly seen in California. The super cute name, aesthetic decor, and great location create an atmosphere as inviting as an Instagram baker's feed. But when it came time to taste, the reality of my banana chocolate cream puff fell flat. Rather than bursting with creaminess, the pastry itself was a bit dry and bland, dwarfed by a sparse dollop of banana. Also for a premium price, I expect more than two bites of food. My friend and I stopped by for a treat after eating lunch nearby. It's a pretty brightly decorated place with decent number of seats (maybe half were filled when we got there around 1h30pm on a Sunday). The pastries all looked very pretty in the cases, I was a big fan of how many creative and colourful designs they offered (the cookie croissants looked really yummy! I've only seen them on social media in the past). We ordered a matcha latte, a hojicha latte, and one of the matcha cream puffs to share. For starters, the drink menu was a bit puzzling because it was not immediately obvious how to order the lattes with the matcha/hojicha/chai addons (not to mention there's a separate matcha latte listing elsewhere as well... which was a different price?) Nonetheless, our lattes were very delicious. My matcha latte (which came unsweetened) had a lovely pure flavour that I liked a lot. Though, I did think the size was definitely on the smaller size considering the price point. My friend's hojicha latte was very nice as well, with the underlying roasted flavour really shining through (and not too sweet, either!). The counter had a bunch of tea leaves you could smell; I wasn't a big fan of many of them lol but I really liked the jasmine and rose flavoured one. The matcha cream puff was OK. The cream itself had undertones of some banana flavour (a bit surprising, to be sure), but I liked that it wasn't too sweet and overall had a nice texture. However, the matcha flavour in the cream on top was lacking, and I think it was rather small for the price. (I have to say, though, I think that Bibble and Sip is still my preferred cream puff in the city haha) Overall a decent experience with solid offerings, but a bit too expensive in my opinion; I'd consider dropping in again for another dessert to try some of their other pastry offerings :) read more

I've been waiting for months to visit this shop and I finally got the chance this past Thursday. It's a cute lil shop with cream puffs, biscuits, scones, and drinks. Evan (shop employee) was very helpful and patient as I was making my pastry choices. I called ahead and talked to another employee and asked her to save a pumpkin pie cream puff for me because they may run out. I was happy about that. Each cream puff is $3.75. As you can see, I bought 4 different flavored cream puffs: pumpkin pie (seasonal), ube coconut, chocolate banana, and rose lychee. I also got 2 egg tarts. All of them were delicious. The egg tarts were good too. I missed out on their 1st anniversary celebration and promotion this weekend where it's buy one, get one free cream puff. Their cream puffs are all bite-sized, but beautifully crafted into different flavors and toppings. We only got their pumpkin pie cream puff -- its pumpkin flavor was barely distinguishable as it only came from the pumpkin spiced powder on top. The walnut was coated with caramel glaze and warm spices. I expected the filling to be pumpkin-flavored, yet it seemed to be a regular vanilla custard. I love love the exterior and interior of this cafe/bakery. Its so bright, warm, and welcoming. Their cream puffs are their standout items and they make unique asian flavors like yuzu, black sesam, lychee rose, ube...etc. We got one of each flavor to try and all of them were really good. Cute coffee shop that I happened to find on my way to an appointment yesterday morning. I wanted a coffee and thought to myself this looks like a fun place. I walked in to a clean and welcoming coffee shop. They have tables inside to sit at, no outdoor seating. I got just a cold brew with milk. The lady working there asked what color I wanted like to know how much milk to put in. Which I thought was very nice of her to ask. I have never been asked that at any coffee shop. The coldbrew was a bit too bitter for me. Maybe if a little more milk was added it would have been a bit better. I did not try any of the pastries but they all looked delightful. Last time I had the Ube Coconut which I also recommend. The inside is small but can be packed easily because they offer free WiFi and you can do work while you have a pastry or drink!
