Really really good cream puffs. Love the assortment of flavors and even going around 8pm they still had quite a few options left. My ranking from most enjoyed to least (but all of them were really good): Black sesame - matcha - ube - tiramisu - banana chocolate The black sesame and ube especially have a really potent, high quality flavor. The black sesame keeps going and gives you different dimensions to the black sesame flavor, so it's clearly not just extract, but rather real black sesame. Same goes for the ube, having a starchy creaminess to it. The actual puff is so tender and light, with a cloudlike cream filling its interior that isn't too sweet and is actually the perfect little bite. you might think these are quite small and maybe they are but I actually prefer it this way so that the cream to puff ratio is decreased, and you get more of that crumbly, light pastry. All of the flavors were delicious and I would def come back here. Makes my list of best cream puffs in the city for sure. read more

Came here on a weekday afternoon because of tiktok and overall I feel like the puffs were kinda mid :/. What we got; Matcha, yuzu, rose lychee, Sakura, and ube. Matcha; 2.5/5... honestly the puff was really good however the matcha didn't even taste like matcha at all.. Yuzu; 3/5; again the yuzu flavoring was mild. Wasn't overwhelming but wasn't one of my favorites. Rose lychee; 3/5; honestly only the cream had a hint of rose flavoring. Also the lychee was fresh which I gave it a bit of a higher raiting. Sakura; 3.5/5- honestly this one was my favorite one our of everything. The flavoring was on point and I enjoyed it. Ube; 1.5/5- I thought it would taste like ube but it tasted more like taro.. Yes... I too fell victim to the viral tiktok of this place... and I too was very disappointed.... I wanna start off by saying that the staff was incredibly friendly and even have a student discount, and the interior design is very cute. However, the aesthetic of the place did not make up for what I ate here. They're popular for their cream puffs and I was so excited to go and try but wow they are so so small. For what you pay for, I expected them to be bigger but you can finish it in 1-2 bites and the cream puff is really dry. The cream is supposed to be flavored but it's very faint and didn't go well together. I also got the matcha strawberry muffin which was fine and I don't really have complaints about it. The hojicha latte however was also very disappointing as it just tasted like water. I knew when I stepped foot into the place, I was going to love this place. To start off, I got the lychee rose cream puff and I think it was called the matcha strawberry trifle which was basically cake. I loved both although the matcha did get pretty sweet as I kept eating it but I couldn't stop. This place also gives 10% student discount which the lady reminded me about for I'm grateful. My friend also got some cream puffs and an egg tart to which they offer if you want it heated. We came around 8pm on a Tuesday and although we stayed near close closing time, we did not feel rushed by staff to get out or anything. This place opened 3 weeks ago! We happened to stumble upon it while walking to our dinner place. They specialize in these mini bite sized cream puffs with unique flavors. When I was there, they had rose lychee, yuzu, pumpkin spice, hazelnut, black sesame, chocolate banana, and matcha. Yuzu and the rose lychee was already sold out! we tried the black sesame puff and it was delicious. Inside of the puff is vanilla custard. The black sesame cream was rich, topped with crunchy flakes. It also taste like there's a small touch of salt pebbles which contracted nicely with the sweet pastry. Overall I love the bite sized desserts. Really cute store. I did not enjoy my rose lychee cream puff though. I came right before closing and there were only a few options left, so maybe my cream puff had been out for very long? The puff part was harder than I'd expected and just didn't leave the amazing cream puff feeling in my mouth that I get from Beard Papas. Came here on a Sunday around 5:30 PM and it was not too busy. However, of course, by that time, many of the cream puffs were already sold out. I opted for two strawberry sakura and one yuzu. I also got an iced matcha latte. The cream puffs are mini size but I personally enjoyed them! I preferred the strawberry sakura more than the yuzu just because I like that flavor more but I appreciated how they aren't too sweet. The choux pastry was dry and wasn't fresh. The cream was a bit stiff. The strawberry sakura cream puff was barely filled. The cream had little to no sakura flavor. More like a 2.5/5. Super friendly staff but I'm on the meh side when it comes to the cream puffs. I tried three different flavors, at $3.75/each: ube, yuzu, and strawberry Sakura. While all the creams were on the light and not too sweet side, overall, it wasn't the best. Choux pastry is on the soggier end, and also just quite dry. Doesn't hold up very well. They're small puffs but the cream is definitely not evenly distributed so trying to share bites was not the best idea, hah! If I had to pick, the ube would be the best as there's more of the potato taste than most ube things I've had, and the consistency for this one is not as the other flavors (but in this case, is fine for me since I can taste the ube more). Decided to visit this cute cafe after coming across some videos on social media and the interior design and aesthetic did not disappoint! Their logo and branding is adorable! Apparently if you have a valid student ID you can also get 10 percent off which is so cool. We went on a Saturday afternoon and it was a bit crowded in terms of seating. There's around 3 tables and some seating near the window but due to the popularity of the store you might need to wait a bit if you'd like to sit down to eat. The menu items are quite unique. They have bamboo oolong which I'd be quite curious to try! We ended up getting their desserts including the matcha trifle and rose lychee cream push. Both came out to slightly more than $10. The flavors were great and not too sweet but the one critique me and my fiancé both had was that the cake in the trifle was quite dry. The cream puff was also a bit dry. High 4.5 stars Cream puffs with an Asian twist! The flavors that were offered here were so unique and flavorful. Most of the cream puffs that we tried had different flavors for the filling and the cream on top. The filling was also filled very fully inside and they did not skimp on it. The cream puff textures were amazing as it was not soggy and was the right amount of softness. If I were to suggest a flavor it would be the rose lychee, it blew my mind away as I did not expect such flavor combination. The black sesame, though it seems plain, had some sort of furikake seasoning on the top and when I took a bite, it blew me away!! Definitely come here to try out their cream puffs! Cute tiny pastries here with mix of flavors with a broadly Asian influence. Service was well service. They were out of their other flavors so I had the Chocolate Banana with a caramelized banana slice on top of chocolate cream with said creme puff which has a banana slice in the middle. Nice presentation looking just like the photos. The banana flavor was good though I found the cream puff texture a bit off and the lack of banana flavor within the rather boring pastry cream doesn't help as much. When we came weekend afternoon, the store was packed, with many of the cream puffs already almost sold out but luckily, they continue to make more. Baketolife.com: Butterdose Cafe is a bright bakery and coffee shop in the East Village in New York City. It has a large variety of sweet pastries and savory options, such as sandwiches. The stars of Butterdose are its cream puffs ($3.75 each at the time of our visit), with a mix of fun flavors, and we tried three: black sesame, ube coconut, and yuzu. The choux pastry overall was solid and did not have a strong egg flavor. The craquelin added a nice sweetness and light crunch. The cream within each puff was extremely light, more of a diplomat cream rather than just pastry cream. Within the cream center, in the ube coconut, there were pieces of coconut. For the yuzu, there were jelly squares that ultimately didn't add much to the texture experience. The flavors were light and could have been stronger overall. The lightness of the yuzu flavor was aligned with the lightness of the cream, making it a nicely bright pastry, rather than a typical heavy one. Ube is a tough flavor to use in general, as it is often not noticeable when overpowered by sweetness. But Butterdose does allow some of the flavor to come through and doesn't overdo it with purple food coloring, as other bakeries tend to do. The best was the black sesame. While it could have also used stronger flavor, the cream puff didn't have bits of black sesame, which was a good call. The crispy triangle on top was the star of top, with a lovely crunch and strong, toasted flavor. The tart was a surprise winner. There is the option of having it warmed, which enhances it.
