We came early on a Sunday and the place was basically empty. We were served quickly. The coffee was tasty and I always appreciate when they offer flavored creamer. Hubby had the ultimate skillet, which he enjoyed for the most part, but added quite a bit of ketchup and hot sauce as he found it somewhat bland. The pancakes that came on the side, however, were butter-y and decadent. I stumbled upon this restaurant after leaving my massage appointment and having not had breakfast I started searching to see what was in the area. The reviews and recommended menu items were not a disappointment. I ordered the country fried steak with Chile sausage gravy's and eggs, and potatoes, and I upgraded my pancakes to the seasonal pumpkin pecan, and they were phenomenal, no extra syrup needed. The establishment was very clean, service from the staff was very friendly, and the price to food quality and portion ratio was perfect! The fries- what more can I say!!! Well, in addition to their amazing fries, the turkey in the club sandwich was a nice thick slice of turkey breast and there was not a ton of mayo so you could take the sandwich ingredients- the bacon and the bread was thin sliced but toasted perfectly- just a win win win for me. Service was quick on a Sunday morning with many family's that come here after church . Our food was good I wasn't very hungry so I had the yogurt and it was basic the fruit was nice and fresh so it helped , it would be good if honey was added , I was told the eggs were cooked perfect and sausage links very tasty now the stuffed French toast was especially good with such flavor made it better than village inns French toast . We stayed at the hotel next to Butter Smith Kitchen. This was our breakfast. I had three pancakes, sausage and eggs. The pancakes were delicious and full of flavor. My wife had the Cali Skillet with pancakes. She loved it! She didn't eat of it because it was so big. She put half of it into a togo box and ate it for lunch. Definitely recommend the breakfast and dinner here at Butter Smith Kitchen! Wish we had one in Florida! Service was fast and friendly. I had the steak and eggs. Comes with pancakes. The steak is very thin. Very tasty, heavily marinated and salted, but it's basically whatever steak they must use for the country fried steak so it doesn't really qualify as a steak in my opinion. Costs $15.79. The hash browns are very tired and ordinary at best. I added iced tea, costs 3.49 but it comes straight out of a dispensing machine. Basically two and a half stars. Then I tried the pancakes. Not much taste, nor texture to recommend them. I have to round down to two stars instead of up. read more

I had visited Buttersmith's on several occasions, but one morning, I went for a late breakfast, and placed my order. While I waited, several waitresses spemt time cleaning, laughing, and mopping under tables in my area, but my breakfast did not arrive. I had ordered the country fried steak breakfastI stopped one of the laughing waitresses & told her I had been there for more than 30 minutes, but my waitress was nowhere in sight, and could I speak to the manager. No manager, but the waitress showed up, telling me that they were waiting for the steak. She refreshed my coffee and disappeared. The cleaning continued, amd when my breakfast arrived, it was cold but the steak was not.. I was shocked, pushimg around the food around, and left without a tip, reporting the incident to the cashier/manager. Am still hurt that I had to pay for very poor service. read more

We had an early dinner after my son's soccer game. This is a modern diner. Great atmosphere and friendly servers. The bathrooms are clean. Menu has a nice variety and Pies! I love that eating here feels like eating at a modernized version of an old school diner. Their mango juice was elite. The stuffed french toast was good but was too heavy on the creme cheese for me (personal preference, I probably should have asked for it without the creme cheese). Sausage patty was really good! We've been wanting to try this diner for a while, and today was are not so lucky day. Came in on a busy President's day (Monday morning). Many others had the same idea since it was packed. Nonetheless we were seated promptly. Unfortunately we will not be returning, as there were too many yucky flops that we can't overlook. First off, our eating utensils were dirty. There was old lettuce stuck on my fork. We asked for replacements and they replaced them. The second batch was dirty too. Gross. We decided to build our own breakfast, ordering French toast, waffles, crepes, sausage links, bacon and eggs. The funny face pancakes and mini fruit loop pancakes sounded appealing for our little ones, so we got that too. The kids' pancakes tasted pretty good, but uhh they definitely failed at creativity. We found hair in my scrambled eggs (sent back and not pictured), and later in one of the fruit loop pancakes too. Yuuuck. We sent them back and they ended up taking those items off of our bill, but thinking on it now they should have just made the entire meal complimentary. The dessert photos looked great and I'm sure they are, but we had enough of the rest to try anything else. Bathroom was decent. And the staff was friendly enough. Sunday brunch was not a let down, but there's room for improvement here. I was there Easter Sunday and we waited only 10 minutes maybe. The first you notice is how busy it feels. There's a lot of employees moving about. It was not too loud though. The table however was uncomfortably close to a large party table and i got knocked a couple times. I ordered the bananas foster pancakes and peach pie a la mode. First the meal. Those pancakes were fluffy and delicious. Not too sweet either. I'm more into French toast but i did not leave a scrap of pancake. The sausage patty at first was cold, so they brought me a new one and that was so good. I like a patty over the links honestly. The scrambled eggs were the let down here. You could tell my portion was scooped from a hotel pan that's been filled with eggs that have been sitting. It was definitely giving part of a whole vibes. I ordered a chocolate milk and it was not filled to the top. This isn't something i notice unless it's really a tiny. I was just hoping it was good tasting so i wouldn't have to complain at such a busy place. I don't need to be drinking so much chocolate milk either. 7/10 it did the trick but nothing to gush over. The pie, the pie, the pie. I wanted to like it more. It wasn't hot enough, the ice cream was super hard and it just didn't have that much flavor. 6/10 I wanted to like this place more then i did. The food isn't bad. It isn't the best either. These plates are a quick way to get your breakfast. The service is good and I haven't waited a single minute to get sitted. Don't take that as a bad sign, the restaurant has plenty of space so that helps it too. Parking is not a chaos but it's location will probably make you wait to get in or out with your car depending on where you're coming from. The atmosphere is bright and cheerful in this newly remodeled Butter Smith place. The restaurant is well known in El Paso, as it was part of the Village Inn franchise. The ownership remains the same and Butter Smith Kitchen & Pies basically offers a similar menu to Village Inn of Southern comfort food. They are well known for their fried chicken, Southwestern skillet and burgers. The waitstaff is always pleasant and really helpful. Today we order two Machacas with some refried beans, and hashed browns. Unfortunately, there was something really wrong with the refried beans, as it tasted rancid with a sour and spoiled aftertaste. We brought this to the attention of the manager and they addressed the issue immediately. The manager apologized, checked with the kitchen and told us that indeed something was wrong. They also asked us if we wanted anything else, and we ordered two basic eggs sunny side up. Overall, I like this place for their breakfast and great salads, and of course their pies. The apple zero sugar pie is a good option for people with diabetes. The ambiance of the restaurant is young and welcoming with the look of an upscale dinner. During normal circumstance the food is a solid 3.5-4.0 but consistancy has been an issue. So management may want to focus on what is happening in the kitchen. read more

Well I must say I'm loyal to village inn and this move I just don't get but if owners want their own thing hey so be it. Here is my review. My wife and I ordered off the healthy menu and first of all, I do appreciate that they have a section. I ordered the veggie omelette and it comes with Wheat Almond pancakes. Let me just say this, I will go back for those pancakes. They ha w really good flavor and very thin (less guilt). The omelet was an ok size and comes with a cup of fruit. I would try again. The positives from my visit was that the food was good and our server was very nice. I had a negative experience when I told my server the side item was wrong (received corn instead of broccoli). This seemed like a simple fix and honest mistake. The problem came when the server returned to my table and said the cook wanted to verify my corn was still on the plate. I refused to let her take my plate back and said if the cooks want to they can come out to the dining area and verify for themselves. This seems like a ridiculous policy if this happens on a regular basis. If the order is wrong, fix the order. Don't question the customer's integrity as if there is attempt to get two sides. Awful experience. I'm sitting here watching the staff treat the place like a frat party, socializing all over, including in the kitchen. Even the manager is participating, goofing off like it's a social gathering. Meanwhile, they barely pay attention to their work, constantly chatting in and out of the kitchen. It's clear that the customers are seen as an interruption to their fun. More focus should be on the food and service. My order was incorrect, and while it was remade, it was poorly put back together with fingerprints all over the bread. The restaurant is a mess--our seats were dirty, and there was trash and food scattered on the floor. The waitstaff behaves like they're in middle school. But this place hit on all cylinders, Edgar was our server and he stayed attentive and respected our space wasn't too pushy and gave us everything we needed right until the end. He was pleasant and had a very good personality to boot. He is the sole reason for 5 stars. The food was tasty and cooked the way I asked for. Nothing special pretty standard for a chain breakfast spot. Coffee was hot and fresh. Silverware was clean and individually wrapped in napkins.
