Our first choice, because of location only, was IHOP. After leaving there with horrible experience of food and service, my wife and I decided to go try ButterBurr's. So glad we did. OMG!!!! The greeting was excellent! The service from Reese was above and beyond waitressing. Our food was nice and hot. Served in a timely fashion. Coffee was always filled. Upon finishing our meal, Reese asked if there's anything we would like or anything that we think she (Reese) can do for us ? Absolutely not! You have been an excellent waitress. Above and beyond! She smiled and said thank you! We brought our leftovers back to our room where we're staying. Gonna eat this delicious food later for lunch! OMG!!! My daughter and I were visiting Idaho and stayed overnight in Pocatello. The hotel staff recommended Butterburrs. We were exhausted after 12+ hours of traveling to get there and so happy that we could DoorDash. The food was delicious. We got pancakes, a Cobb salad, and hash browns. We're visiting Pocatello for my daughter's 21st birthday. We went to Lava Hot Springs today and were hungry. My wife's coworker recommended this place. They said their food was good as well as their pies. I ordered chicken fried steak with mash potatoes, salad, scone, and tater tots. My wife ordered a Denver omelet, my son ordered finger steaks with fries and a maple twist, and my daughter ordered a 3 piece chicken tenders with fries and a scone. For starters, the ranch dressing was homemade and was amazing! The lettuce was a letdown because it was iceberg, which wilted right away as I ate it. My chicken fried steak was really good except it was a little salty and as it sat, the patty got mushy. The mashed potatoes were bland. It needed butter and salt. I would prefer maybe adding some sour cream or heavy cream to add some smoothness. The brown gravy was salty as well. The tater tot's were, tater tots. I think my biggest disappointment was the scones. They tasted too much like bread. It doesn't have that crispy fried taste. To me, it tasted like regular bread. Not impressed. I ordered the banana cream pie for dessert. It was ok. There were few bananas, the whipped cream was not sweet enough, and the pudding mix did not have enough banana flavoring. I thought the crust was really good though. Good flakey crust with a good crispy, flakey layers. We also ordered the oatmeal pie. This was basically a pecan pie with oatmeal. The food was yummy? We simply went for the twists. They were fresh form this morning and you can definitely eat them for breakfast or dessert. No need for syrup at all. And he flavors were layered with crisp French bread with a sweet and warm cinnamon roll flavor and a gooey glaze the dried and flaked as you cut it. Went last night 3/8 to celebrate my daughters 7th birthday. We had a medium sized party of 7. Upon being seated, I told the young lady I wanted 2 separate checks. Her response was a tad harsh. She snaps back at me, saying "OK, but I'm not your server. Tell them." She then takes our drink orders. When she returned she handed two people the wrong drinks (easy fix, no biggie.) Since there was 7 of us, we did take a minute to decide what we all wanted (our bad.) Once we had all decided and placed our order, it took almost 40 minutes to receive our food. Mind you, the restaurant was not overly busy for a Saturday night. Service should not have been so slow. The food portions have gone down hill. My daughter ordered the Lil Eater and got 1 piece of bacon and maybe 3oz of scrambled eggs. My boyfriend ordered the BYO Omelet didn't even cover his plate, nor did they offer him toast or a bread choice when he declined hashbrowns. When I got my receipt, the grand total for 5 people wasn't bad, what got me was the automatic gratuity then put on my check of 18%. They also put said gratuity on the second check, even though we all shared a table. I told the waitress/server I refused to pay the gratuity. I wanted to speak to a manager. She simply took my card and ran it for the full amount. She brought the receipt back and I wrote on it saying, "You automatically took a tip, I will not add to it. Your policy of doing so sucks and I will not be back." I used to love ButterBurrs when they had their old location. started out a couple months ago when our breakfast was all messed up. omelette was not what we ordered, pancake was full of runny batter but burnt on the edges, then we waited over 20 minutes just to let them know at that time we were ready to leave not get the order fixed so they gave us 2 $5 gift certificates to make up for the issue, we decided to give them a try again about a month later and same deal pancake was raw and service was slow then when we went to pay they would only let us use one of the certificates, not a big deal but at this point im not sure if I would want to come back. Well today we decided to give them another chance and I will say the food was ok but they charged me $3.99 for a monkey dish of brown gravy and when I questioned it she said yes that's what we charge for a (pint ) of gravy i had no where near a pint of gravy. Don't get me wrong I don't have a problem paying for something but $3.99 for that small of a serving was absurd. I liked new building much better than the old one. Was our first time here at former Vallarta location, it always looked a bit too busy from the parking lot, but I am glad we gave it a try. Portions felt a bit smaller than I remember them, could it be that I just grew bigger over the last couple of years? Most unpleasant surprise is like several businesses in this area even one local car dealer where the owner manages at least 2 others, so far from poor boy if you'd ask me and yet they impose now a surcharge of 3% on all credit card transactions. In 2025. Believe it or not I had not handled cash in decades. 2000+ are all years of electronic transactions, nobody carries bundles of cash with them anymore. Merchants typically pay credit card processing fees, and these charges are considered an operating cost. Another minor thing is water could be better filtered and although our waiter offered us a breadstick or a twist it was never brought to our table. Other than that I think I still have family members that like it a lot and it is an Ok place to eat. Twists or breadsticks are now offered, but not brought to you during the course of the meal. Classic staples that I used to enjoy going to eat or no longer available... and a few that are only available on certain days.. which is very disappointing. The twists used to be light and fluffy, like a dinner roll but sweet with cinnamon or raspberry... they were absolutely amazing and my favorite thing to eat.. now they are almost as dense as a brick. I ordered the 7 hr pot roast (tasted like it was heated and served from the refrigerator) daughter ordered a steak n everything sandwich ordering the large version hoping for extras. It's good homestyle food. It's nothing super fancy, but generally it's good. The portions are large and the wait staff is friendly. There's was a mix up on what size I wanted my meal, so they gave us the extras for free and boxed it up for us. My husband said the biscuits were great but the gravy was kind of bland, but you can't be great at everything. Their parking is a mess though. It has diagonal staggered spots, so it's easier to park on the side street and walk in. We saw at least one car that was boxed in front and back in the lot. read more

Pocatello, Idaho. You know your food deprived when unsure what city/state you in. Was I in Utah, Montana? WTF~! Idaho? How, when? Whatever. It was a cold morning in the woods east of Logan, Utah, the sun has yet to dawn, and the bodily fluids were making funny noises meaning it smelled too, but, that's the luxury of having a mobile cigar lounge aka stinky car. I drove most of the night through Utah and camped out for a few hours heading north. Then boom, pulled over to make a quick brekkie with my portable kitchen... My durable, five year old portable grill stopped working. Hindsight says it was too cold for the gas to heat up but due to my pre-coffee (aka dumbass) frustration, I broke it even more and chucked it... Along with some eggs, hash and corned beef which would have made some nice IG posts. Can't start a day's rigors without a hot meal so i googled some random places with Pocatello 120 miles away. Why use google maps? Cause yelp's location and algorithm is retarded in low populated parts of the country. Butterburrs was my third selection cause the other two weren't open at 5:30am. And I'm glad they weren't. Service: C It's either the small town or too early in the morning effect on the server's part. I'm sure a place as bright as this one has standardized service. Pocatello is a college town meaning the locals should be used to us yellow-pigmented people (not the driving habits though) so I scratched off Nebraskan style prejudice as factor. Food: B Standard. Taste better than standard so maybe just the potatoes were commercialized. They have some pastry dish called a "twist." It was a damned donut~! Location: ? Within Pocatello - A. Off the main drag near I-15. Within Idaho - C since it's Pocatello. Within the USA - F cause it's Idaho aka far but not Montana far. Los Angeles, California - 850 miles. In a month this restaurant became a "don't need to go back right away" for my family and me. From the time we walked in and the ladies behind the desk couldn't say, "Hello, someone will be right with you," to the "hostess" who seated us next to the cleaning equipment and could barely say, "Your server will be right with you," to the disappointing food. My son's 3 Piece Frenchie lacked any discernible cheese-the ingredient the sandwich is made of, for Pete's sake. He had to pull each of the 3 pieces apart in order to see/find the cheese. Basically, he had a deep fried bread sandwich. My ham and cheese omelet was short on ham and if I pulled it apart I could find some cheese-but I had to search for it. The hashbrowns were excellent, however. The famous twist? I requested raspberry from a choice of raspberry or cinnamon and had to look hard for the raspberry. Ultimately, half of the twist was dry and the other half was doughy. They screwed up my daughter-in-law's order and had to remake it. Fortunately, they brought her eggs and bacon out while they did that. We didn't mind that she had ordered ham instead of bacon-by the time the food came out, she was hungry enough to be happy with the bacon. And, now that I have typed this I'm thinking that they must have been running out of ham. Tonight was a far cry from the meals we had here a month ago-those were fantastic and we were excited to have Butterburr's back on our list of favorite restaurants. The food itself was decent. My chief complaint lies with the lighting in their banquet room. The lights flickered constantly and make high pitched buzzing sound that drove me nuts. It made me wonder when I walked in at 6:30 a.m., a half-hour after Butterburrs opened on a Friday morning, and I was the first customer of the morning. Every diner I'm familiar with has regulars who always arrive a few minutes after opening. One of the waitresses watched me park, but she and another server were hidden behind a wall when I came in. Sorry to say my experience at Butterburrs yesterday was not good. It took along time to get my breakfast, about 35 minutes. I was there about 10:30. Then I saw why it took so long. I had ordered diced ham and scrambled eggs. I got burnt ham and scrambled eggs. The order came with hash browns and choice of bread . The hash browns looked yummy but had a funny taste. And I love their bread sticks which are always fresh so I got that. Well you probably guessed, it was like a day old one. But the coffee was good! The waitress only charged me for my coffee. She was a little embarrassed by that meal. How could a cook send out burnt ham? And I wondered how the waitress could bring it out! So that's my story and I'm sticking to it. read more
