NEVER AGAIN!!! First of all, this restaurant is in the State of IDAHO. Idaho KNOWN for their POTATOES, right? Well not here!! They were OUT of their breakfast potatoes but they do have hash browns. About 5 minutes (maybe a little longer, but let's say 5) after our order was placed the waitress comes back and said they are OUT OF POTATOES. So I said yes to the hash browns, no other option. The TWIST, tasted like a regular day old cinnamon roll. SAD! About 15 minutes later, mind you there are no more than 20 customers there, we get our food. I ordered two eggs and the "hash browns" with a side of bacon and that sad, day old, end of a cinnamon roll. Guess what...hash browns were fresh out of the fridge, lightly browned on the outside. I NEVER spit food out til today. That was the WORST thing EVER!! I don't know how this place stays in business. I can't imagine what the food tastes like when they are busy. Good luck. read more

I have always loved Butter Burr's. Went there for special occasions when my kids were little and now that I am living in Meridian, every time we come back to visit, which is about 6 times a year, we eat there. But the new location has a sad ambient. Nothing to look at while wait and wait time has increased tremendously. The menu has been cut, and it is dark and gloomy. Feels like being in a dungeon. The cinnamon twists which have always been a favorite fell through the cracks. They were hard and too crusty. The hashbrowns were burnt, the pancakes were just okay. The hamburger steak for breakfast was chewy and tough. Not sure if we will ever go there again. We were so excited to go there to bring new family there to eat and we now look like fools because it was so aweful. read more

The service at this place is horrible. We waited an hour and a half and still didn't get our food. We finally had to ask for the bill for our drinks so we could leave. The manager just told us to get out, no apology nothing. We even had to serve ourselves our own coffee while the manager and a waitress stood at the counter. Went in to trying this restaurant with high hopes but not expecting much. I've seen lots of cars there so I assumed they did something good. I got the French dip, fish sandwich, and chicken noodle soup. I was not impressed with the bread choice on the French dip and the dip was salty. It wasn't bad it just average. Likewise the soup was an average chicken noodle. The fries were actually good, thick fries with crunchy exterior. I ordered the fish sandwich because the description said it came with tomato, lettuce, and onion, my sandwich came with none of those. Let me start by saying that my five star rating is for this class of restaurant: a family restaurant, a diner. I had lunch here twice in a week, both times with two kids and another time with an additional diner. Both times we had very friendly service, with multiple check-ins to see if we needed anything else. The kitchen accommodated our minor special requests with no objection. The cinnamon twists are an epic treat! I also especially enjoyed the vegetarian soup, which was as good as or even better than what I make at home. My kids raved about the quality of the bacon that came with their breakfast dishes (breakfast is served all day). We also enjoyed the unusual Oatmeal Pie -- trust me, it's better than it sounds. It's similar to a southern pecan pie, but without the pecans, and with some rolled oats in the sweet gooey matrix. It was served heated, which was a plus. Next time I am in Pocatello, I will definitely return to Butterburrs. read more

Went for lunch the other day. I was absolutely impressed with both the service and the food! I ordered the soup and salad, thinking it would be just enough to fill me up, and went home with leftovers of the soup and a half slice of pie! My garden salad was very fresh, the bacon potato soup was delicious, (the large is a big, big bowl - just a heads up.) I will definitely go back. I think I may have found a new favorite lunch spot. Our first time in Pocatello Idaho and we saw the sign outside that said fresh bread and homemade pies. This was what brought me in for food. We ate the chicken fried steak which was really good along with eggs, hashbrowns, pancakes and the cinnamon twist. By far the two best things we ate were the chicken fried steak and cinnamon twist. Everything else was a little bland in flavor but still satisfactory. We did not eat any pie put the pies in the display looks very tasty. Perhaps next time I will order a piece of pie. The biscuits and gravy looked really good but we didn't order that because they were sold out. I was very jealous of all the people around me who were eating the biscuits. First of all I have been going to Butterburrs for years and each time I have been very happy with the entire experience. Unfortunately I had my first not so good experience today. I know it was Veterans Day and they were busy. I persuaded my daughter we should go there for lunch. We put our name on the list and waited for a table. It was only about a 10 minute wait at that point. The Hostess got our drinks, very nice. The waitress came by and took our order about 10 minutes later, we waited and waited until my daughter finally got the attention of our waitress and ordered another drink at that point it was 30 minutes and the waitress stated the kitchen was really busy and it was taking at least 30 minutes to get the orders out. We waited some more, finally after 45 minutes we got our food. In total we had the waitress stop by 3 times, took our order, brought drink, got bill. Sad to say my daughter was not impressed and told me she would not go back, I kept apologizing because I never had a bad time before, she was visiting from out of town. read more

On a business trip and, I'd been stuck for a few weeks with Appleby's and the other 5 chains anyone can find anywhere. I was missing my wife's cooking, then I stumbled into this Ma & Pop restaurant. Butter Burr's offers a full course meal which includes drink, salad, entree, and desert. It was tasty and large. I usually had to skip the pie, because I was so full. This is not a gourmet restaurant......it was just like eating mom's cooking! Not only was the food like mom's, the owner reminded me of a country soccer mom, who reminded me of my mother. I chatted with her, met her husband and several of her children before I left town.......Good people. For a family away from your family. It is a wholesome restaurant, that put's out American comfort food. Obviously it became a regular stop for me during the 3 months I worked in Pocatello. Out of all the other places in town Butter Burr's offers the best value, and best nostalgia for those missing family on business trips. read more

Long time fan of this restaurant. "American" style food with a couple of twists (like the cheese frenchy). Most meals are served with either a cinnamon twist or a breadstick. All bread products/pies are made specially for Butterburrs by a local bakery - fresh every day. They also feature "home made" soups with chicken noodle and vegetable beef every day, along with a daily special. The chicken noodle is especially good since even the noodles are handmade. A couple of nice features that this establishment does that most others do not, is have multiple meals sizes (small or large) as well as a variety of specials (such as the SST - Soup, Sandwich & Treat). They also have a seniors menu for lighter eaters. Poor Dan C. ordered probably ordered the most bland item on the menu. I am a BIG fan of biscuits and gravy, but I will not eat them here - I have found that in a lot of eateries the gravy is bland and tastes more of flour than sausage, so I am hesitant to order them in many places. Most of the other food is flavorful, needing only a little salt and pepper. The restaurant is divided into three general areas - two in the front (left and right of the entry) with the third being located to the right and to the rear. If loud noise bothers you, I recommend that you do NOT sit in the rear section as the walls are bare and reflect a lot of sound, and this is also the area where they seat larger parties so it tends to be a bit noisier. Once you get done with your meal order the oatmeal pie, heated. Al-la-mode is even better. Think pecan pie, but not as cloyingly sweet. A wonderful ending to a good meal. read more

I was in Pocatello on business earlier this week and this place came up with a google search on my BlackBerry and then we drove past it and it sparked my memory from the previous google search. We decided to give it a whirl for dinner and we were not disappointed. The prices were VERY reasonable and the service was friendly. We each ordered off of their combo menu (I'm not sure what the actual name is) where we got our choice of appetizer, entree and dessert for $8.99, which is really a great deal. I had the chicken parm for my entree although I should have gone with the roast and mashed potatoes. I tried the Idaho Nachos for my appetizer. They are basically little chopped up potatoes with toppings on them and were pretty good. For dessert I ordered a slice of strawberry pie and between the time I placed my order and when it was time for my dessert they ran out (I had seen the last slice come out to another table and it looked great) so I had to make another selection and I went with the Lemon Cream Pie instead. My boss chose their "famous" scones with honey butter for her appetizer and I tried a bit. Very delicious. She got the prime rib for her entree (which is a slight price increase over the $8.99) and then a slice of their Oatmeal Pie for dessert. I had a taste of that too, and it was good. The next morning before we left town we had to grab some breakfast and we decided that we would go back for more. I got my own scones this time and was not disappointed. The coffee was good too. An added bonus was that my expense report will be very lean due to their excellent prices. I wasn't a fan of much in Pocatello, but Butterburrs will be the shining exception. read more

I always go for lunch and get the SST special which is a sandwich, soup/salad, and a treat for around $7. The potato soup is always better than I expect it to be. And super filling! French Vegetable soup was just okay. My favorite sandwich is the Cheese Frenchy. It's a battered and fried grilled cheese. Yes, it will probably shorten your lifespan, but it is soooo very good. I've tried a few other sandwiches that were all good, but now I always get that Frenchy. For treats, the oatmeal pie can't be beat. It's pecan pie's cousin and it is surprisingly delicious. Their twists and coconut cream pie are also pretty dang good. Anyway, Butterburrs is nothing fancy, but they never disappoint. It's a cheap, filling, and tasty meal that can't be beat. read more

Butterburrs is all about their fantastic bread dough recipe. The use it to create delicious breadsticks, sandwiches, and cinnamon (and other flavor) twists. I'd recommend any bread item that is made in the restaurant. Outside of the bread items, the food can be hit or miss. I'm personally not a big fan of their breakfast items, which I find to be under-seasoned and lacking in butter flavor. They do have a nice Italian sausage, and sticking to items with this ingredient keeps from having a bland breakfast dish brought to your table. We particularly enjoy the SST, which is a soup, half sandwich, and "treat" combo available all day. Get the sandwich on a "butterbun", any soup, and cinnamon twist, and you're all set. Service is typically quick and friendly, and the restaurant is very casual. I'd say it was great for kids, but I have to add the caveat that there are no diaper changing facilities in either restaurant. For a place that recently remodeled their restrooms and always has several babies in attendance, this is completely unforgivable! The eggs were pretty eggs, the cinnamon twist was delicious (but probably extremely bad for you) and my hash browns were undercooked. The service was pretty good and friendly. This establishment is a solid 4 star. 5 is very hard to obtain. Let me talk about what I enjoyed about this place. Service: The waiter was very friendly, up front and walked us through the menu at a quick pace, and didn't linger. He allowed us to enjoy our dinner on a Sunday. Hours: They were open on Sunday. We were traveling for the Eastern Idaho State fair and this was one of the few places that were open in this small college town on a Sunday. Food: I had the Seven Hour Pot Roast and it was very good. It was a tad under seasoned and with a few dashes of the season salt mixture on the table my pot roast was tasty. Let's talk about what could have been better. Breadstick: I ordered the plain one and it was dry, and didn't seem very fresh. Order the Maple or cinnamon versions they were much better. The Potato portion on the Large Seven Hour Pot Roast seemed a bit light. Then again, I am a big eater, I was hungry. I would revisit Butterburrs again.
