I've been meaning to stop and try out this cute little cafe for quite a while, but just hadn't found the right reason. It's probably a convenient place to stop for coffee or a light lunch if you happen to work in the area and can walk over, but it has always seemed like a bit of a hassle to find parking just for the purpose of coming here. I was able to stop by after the No Kings march a few weekends ago. After perusing the menu I just wasn't feeling any of the lunch options, so I ended up getting a golden milk smoothie. It was good, but I'm not sure it was spectacular enough to justify the price. Maybe I just had a "too peopley" morning - perhaps I'll come back and give their sandwiches a try when I am in a better mood. This is a cute little cafe a block off the main drag in Old Town. I popped in for a coffee pre-farm market on a Saturday. It was going to be another scorcher of a day so I went with iced. The staff were pleasant and welcoming. It is right near a parking deck. Since I was only caffeinating I did not have food but their pastry selection looked nice. This cute little cafe is great for a quick lunch when walking around Fort Collins! We stopped by and ordered a couple 1/2 and 1/2 combos with turkey melt paninis, grilled cheese, tomato soup, and the quinoa salad. The focaccia is AMAZING and you can tell it is so fresh and homemade. It has an amazing flavor and texture (crispy on the top but perfectly soft and doughy on the inside). I would return just to buy a loaf of that bread! We also enjoyed the tomato soup, especially with the grilled cheese. The quinoa salad was also good and came with a nice sauce (tomato or pepper, I can't remember). The service was so quick and friendly, and the prices were great for the quality of the food. Tl;dr: the garden sandwich here with hummus is the best sandwich I've had in the US. While that is a pretty absurd statement in and of itself, I can at least offer that I'm not vegetarian and enjoy a good deli sandwich as a food group (and shouldn't be written off immediately for my statement). After all, I have a Reubens spot in New York and make it a point to stop by Bay Cities when in Santa Monica. Yet, truth is truth. The best sandwich in America is the vegan sammy right here at the Butterfly Cafe. My husband and I stayed at the beautiful Elizabeth Hotel in downtown Fort Collins and decided to stop by before we headed to the airport. This café is really a full-windowed concrete hut. A maximum of six people can probably stand inside the café, uncomfortably. The bathroom, in contrast, can probably fit eight people, but that's besides the point. There are two stools inside the sunlit cove where you can squeeze in next to monsteras as well as a handful of tables outside. Perfect for take outs on days when it's 34 degrees outside. The menu options include sandwiches, smoothies, and breakfast classics. My normal go-tos are cold cut sandwich, and while the mushroom sandwich also caught my eye, I felt like going for something light and uncharacteristically opted for the garden sandwich. Hubby got the turkey avocado, and I was asked whether I wanted to substitute the cheese with hummus. I said, If it's good, sure. We were informed it'd take about 15 minutes. We stuck with it. It took over 15 minutes but both were absolutely the right decisions. The kicker to these sandwiches is that they bake the focaccia in house, and it is perfection. Pillowy inside, slightly crispy on the outside. I also adore the copious spread of artichoke hearts bits in the garden sandwich. And the lemony hummus-tahini combo perfectly seeped through the avocado, tomato, and spinach. Oh. So. Delicious. I wasn't even hungry yet ate the whole thing (ok, I shared a little bit). I also drank all of the Green Genie smoothie, which was also delicious. The gentleman who made it called for me, and I said, "Yeah, I know, I got the Genie." Service friendly, a bit of a wait during what was likely a busy time of day (noon/lunch). I got to enjoy the sun for a bit so it didn't bother me too much. Id advise not to come here for food/drink if you're in a rush. I would like to try the sandwiches, the freshly made focaccia bread behind the counter looked amazing. I got a 1.5" diameter chocolate chip cookie and a small lavender latte, it was tasty - especially the drink- however wasn't expecting it to amount to the cost plus 20% tip to be over $7. I'll come back if I'm looking for a more "gourmet", rich and smooth latte maybe, but not just for coffee or latte on a day to day. They list that their syrups are made in-house. Coffee: yum! They had a QR code for their menu and some menus available by the door. I appreciated it, however, with my time limitations and it being a very small cafe, jetted to get a spot in line. I look forward to taking a bit more time to explore their menu. I was already in the area and parked; however, just like many businesses in this area, there's primarily 2 HR or 3 hr parking. The breakfast sandwich really is the highlight of this place. I'd come back again and again for that. It's got this awesome buttery/fluffy bread, a light scramble, tomatoes, and a spread that gives it that extra savory kick that makes it all come together. It's really special. The coffee? Not so much. I am a non-dairy drinker though, so I had given their house made almond milk a try. They add cinnamon and sweetener in it to try to give the milk some flavor and it did NOT come together. Too many strong competing flavors, I could barely taste the coffee! It's a cute cafe and the staff are super friendly though. And the coffees come in really unique mugs, which I love a good ceramic. I think if you just avoid the housemade nondairy alternatives the lattes would be drinkable. TLDR; Go for the breakfast sandwich for sure, be wary of the milk alternatives for the lattes. read more

We were doing some hikes just outside of Fort Collins and needed a quick lunch. It's a cute little cafe with a beautiful wrap around outdoor seating. We are always on the lookout for a good place to grab a good, quick breakfast in the afternoon or evening. We like to sleep in on weekends, so usually miss the plethora of breakfast/brunch joints. Came across the Butterfly Cafe on Yelp and decided to check them out since they were open and serving their menu including vegetarian and vegan friendly breakfast items until 4pm. Hubby had the Loaded Avocado Toast with a Sunny Side Up Eggs, I had the Breakfast Burrito with all of the sauces. Our son had the Garden sandwich. Everything was fresh and delicious and had the perfect amount of seasoning. So often we find food not seasoned well - not here! Service was super friendly and fast. I drink a lot of coffee, but the drink I got here was by far my favorite I got after spending a week in Colorado! The dragon latte has espresso with their spicy house made cashew milk. The woman who took my order listed out all the ingredients for me when I asked, but I was hooked as she started. I ordered it iced. I took the first sip and my eyes lit up! I wished I had ordered a bigger size because this drink truly tasted like nothing I have had before and I don't know if I'll ever have again. A hidden gem of a cafe! I had a latte with home made spicy cashew milk, and a ham, egg, and pesto sandwich. The spicy cashew milk is unlike anything I've ever tasted. My sister is friends with the owner, which is how I found out about this local gem. My man and I stopped by on our way up to Red Feather, and we both were so glad that we did! First off, the coffee is FAB. I had an iced americano because A: It was hotttttter than frick outside and B: if a cafe has good espresso then you know that everything else on the menu is going to be lit. You know when you go to Starbucks and sometimes you think your drink tastes like a campfire because the espresso is so burnt? Butterfly Cafe is like, the exact opposite. The espresso doesn't need any sort of sweetener to mask it, it's THAT good on it's own. Not burnt at all, but perfectly balanced and smooth. Delish! I ordered the Garden on gluten free bread, and was so happy to see that they are super accommodating! But the best part was that the bread didn't taste like it was gluten free! Gluten free bread that doesn't taste gluten free is always the best kind. Landin order the Ham Egg & Pesto sandwich for brekkie, and he enjoyed every bite. The croissant bun looked amazing! We both left super happy, full, and caffeinated. What more could you want? I am so excited about this new place, I am already making plans to come back and visit again.
