I came home to deal with the death of mother and since I've been in Memphis 6wks now I've had some of ehe worse customer service interactions that I've had anywhere but this place as soon as I opened door I was met with the loudest, most cheerful, excited welcome I've ever heard upon entering an establishment. It truly threw me off guard but in a way that I wanted to spend money here. Then when the employee came I was ready for something negative but, this young man spoke to me with a smile, was so gracious and honest that it made me wish that he was the face of Memphis. He is what Memphis used to be when I lived here. So I purchased several items and when I got back to the house I was planning on eating one of the cookies but ended up eating all four smh don't judge me damnit!!! lol this place may may not look great on the outside nor the inside but what it's lacking in beauty it truly made up for it ten fold in service, friendliness, smiles & taste. Stopped in after visiting the Civil Rights Museum. Got the strawberry banana pudding and a strawberry cookie. The pudding was excellent but the cookie did not seem fresh. This is a genuine mom & pop coffee shop, with deep roots in the community, or at least that's how it felt. The young lady at the register received us with a wide smile. I was a little disappointed they run out lemon pies and lemon cookies; they must be very popular, but the banana pudding and the butter cookies were a great consolation. I was hopping for a freshly made Mocha, but they only had the Starbucks bottled ones. I encourage the owners to consider serving their own brew, it would enhance the customer experience. This was a nice little cafe that we just happened to come by while killing time. The staff and other patrons were all very friendly and welcoming. Inside they also allowed a couple of people to set up tables to sell their products. I ordered their oatmeal cookies and banana pudding and both were delicious. The cookies were so good we went back for some to take home. If I ever get back to Memphis I'm definitely getting more of these cookies and banana pudding. read more

Maybe I came on an off day, or maybe there is just something wrong with me. I seem to be the only person who had just had an "ok" experience here. I visited on a weekday in March during a cross country road trip. I wanted something sweet in between Nashville and Little Rock. I searched for dessert shops on Yelp and quickly made the decision to come here based on the rave reviews. The location was easy to find and so was parking. It was a really cute shop! I got an oatmeal cookie with icing, a chocolate chip cookie, banana pudding, and a whole plastic jug of the mini butter cookies. I was confident I was going to be a fan and looked forward to having this snack as I made my way west. The oatmeal cookie was my favorite and what I'd go back for if I lived in the area. It was rich and just so delicious. The chocolate cookie was okay. The banana pudding was way better than I had the night before at Hattie B's in Nashville. But the butter cookies... again, maybe I came on a bad day. They tasted good with the banana pudding, but alone they just weren't great. Reading the reviews makes me wonder if they had started to go stale and I bought them before they would have been tossed at the end of the day. I don't know, but I wouldn't get them again and that makes me sad to say. I didn't even finish half of the jug. I'm not sure when I'll find myself in Memphis again, but if it's convenient I'll definitely give them another shot since I'm clearly in the minority with this review. If you're haemophaliac, you're a bleeder If you're obsessed with Bae then you need her But if you're in Mem-phis Then I promise you this You need desserts and things from Makeda's I had a mixed experience here and I was hoping to have a really good one. I was excited that they were open even on Columbus Day and was looking forward to trying them more than almost anything else in Memphis. The problem was the little boy who were serving. I'm not very easily offended and it's lucky that I'm not because here's what happened. First things first is that I look pretty (gasp) and scandalous much like my girlfriend but in a different way. I know this and I'm okay with it and I know I'm going to get comments. Usually there are some people who seem offended or and a lot more people who just make fun of me and even more people who hit on me, stare at me, and flirt with me incessantly or even give me free stuff. This boy was about 10 years old so I wasn't expecting anything in the way of that behaviour from him but no sooner had I walked up to the counter then he asked if I had a burn mark on my arm. He was referring to my little Playboy bunny from tanning. So I told him no it's from tanning. Like - so what's tanning he says - so I explain to him what it is in brief and he was rolling his eyes and shaking his head, like acting as if that was something that he disapproved of. From that point on he was noticeably pissy with me. He's welcome to disapprove of it on his own time but right now he's taking my money in his mother's store and he should probably be a bit more respectful. Plus what if it was a burn mark? What if I was scarred and I was sensitive about it and then this kid is asking me about it instead of taking my money. But whatever. Didn't bother me I just imagine it would bother certain other people. Literally not bothered.... yet. But I would be. He recommended different things and kept trying to upsell me on different things which is fine because I wanted to try a bunch of different things anyway. Once I had all my items he took my money. It was $17 which is very pricey considering I only got three items. Extremely extraordinary pricey I should say. I gave him 20 and some change so that I would get $3 back. One of the dollars was going straight in the tip jar for him. So instead of giving me my $3 bills back he gives me 2... and then he looks up at me as if to wait and see if I'm going to say something. I just gave him a look like I know what you just did but I'm not going to call you out on it because for all I know you're just really bad at math. And he kind of smirked (like he got one over on me) (he didn't) (I just don't care enough to demand my dollar) (lol) and walked away. So the register is going to be $1 higher than it should be for that day but then I wonder if that's just one of his little techniques. Either that or he's bad at math and either way he should not be serving and they should not be doing that. Yes I could have just called him out on it but I didn't want to have an argument with a 10 year old kid and I didn't want to get him in trouble with his parents. So he just lost his tip. Or earned his tip by sneaky means I don't know. Then I had three different items and he acted like he was going to put them in a bag, but changed his mind and just plopped them them down on the counter (in a sort of aggressive way, I have no idea why), put a fork on top of them and walked away. This little kid - even though he's only 10 - gets one star. And he owes me a dollar. And he has some attitude. At least he's a confident young man but he can do better in terms of the way he treats customers. And how about the actual food? Well the butter cookie is okay. It's not amazing. I don't understand why it's so popular. The real strength lies in the lemon cake and the banana pudding. Both are spectacular. It's one of the best banana puddings have ever had because of the creamy banana nature and also the broken up butter cookie really really works in the banana pudding format rather than by itself, where it's pretty bland. And lemon cake is simply divine. They know how to make this stuff. Both the lemon cake and the banana pudding are overpriced and considerably more expensive than most incarnations of these types of things at soul food places and bakeries all across the country. However. They are very high quality and they are very good and this is a Memphis Legend and so for these reasons I feel like I have to give them five stars for these two items because they were just so good. But it's five stars for those two items and two stars for the prices and 1 * for the way I was treated by that little kid. And the cookie gets about A3. So in the end I have to give it 4 even though those 2 desserts really, really deserve 5. Now the future is whatever you make it. So Makeda good one. Both of you. read more

I ordered on Uber Eats just to try this place out. I butter cookies and strawberry banana pudding. I have to be honest sooo I can't get with whipped pudding. The pudding tasted so much like whipped cream, there was very little banana flavoring....only a couple bananas slices (which were not ripe) and a premade strawberry sauce that made the pudding have an after taste. Neither of the cookies I listed above can hold a candle to Butterific's cookies. They aren't even close. The larger cookies come individually wrapped while the mini are sealed (4 per package). The cookies are buttery with the right amount of sweetness. To say they are divine would be an understatement. I don't live in the state, so I don't go often. However, when I travel through TN, I make sure to stop by Butteriffic. This past trip, I took the wrong exit on the interstate. I was re-routed, which added an additional 20 minutes to my 10 hour drive. It was worth it. I bought 2 dozen cookies and they are almost gone.
