Fifteen years in and Buvette still does the thing. Jody Williams built this room before the whole tiny-Paris-café genre got run into the ground, and it remains the best version of it, now with outposts in Tokyo, Seoul, and as of this year London. Order the steamed eggs. They cook them with the espresso machine's steam wand, which is why the texture is like nothing you make at home. Get them with prosciutto, add the croque madame, done. The coq au vin at night is legit but arrives in a crock the size of your fist for real money. Everything here is small: the plates, the tables, the pours. Decide if you're okay with that before you sit down. Fun fact for the old heads: this address was the Pink Tea Cup for decades. Smothered pork chops to tartinettes, that's the Village in one storefront. Logistics matter. No reservations, ever, and with the street shed gone the room got even tighter. Weekend brunch line runs an hour plus, which is insane when Via Carota (same owners, Williams and Rita Sodi) is a block away. Go weekday at 8am instead, grab the marble bar, and it's one of the calmest breakfasts in Manhattan. Four stars, not five, because the portion-to-price math stings and weekends are a scrum. Buvette was able to accommodate me for an early dinner shortly after my arrival in New York, specifically the West Village. Buvette is one of five W. Village eateries helmed by power-chef duo Jody Williams and Rita Sodi; four are within a block of each other. I passed the other three (Bar Pisellino, Via Carota, I Sodi) on my way and all had lines out the door. Carota and Sodi are Italian, Buvette is French. There are 2 other Buvettes in Asia and one coming soon in London. Buvette does not do reservations. Buvette is a charming but tiny/cramped space, made more tiny within the last year by NYC's removal of pandemic-era street patios which greatly helped dining capacity. Buvette may sometimes have a few front sidewalk tables, and there's a tiny outdoor patio in the back. The tables and dishware are also tiny. There's a kitchen in the back, but some food is also prepared below the bar in front, where there seem to be some ovens. The food seems reliably consistent here. The menu is short but there are daily specials. I ordered a non-alcoholic ginger soda, crab tartine (a special), lobster a l'Americaine (lobster pot pie) and frites. The soda is always on the menu and is refreshing, with a nice snap of ginger. The crab tartine was fab, a fresh crab salad with avocado atop toast. The lobster pot pie was made in the under-bar oven, a small serving of lobster and veggies with a golden puff pastry topper. Delish. The frites were nicely crisp, served with an aioli. Service was okay, but my hot food took about 45 minutes to come out, apparently because my ticket was lost. Overall a pleasant meal, my first during this visit. read more

My friend and I came here a few weekends ago for brunch. We knew that they didn't take reservations and we would likely be waiting in line. Thankfully, we didn't have to wait too long as we were asked if we would be willing to sit in their back patio, and we said yes, which absolutely paid off (as most people wanted to sit inside as it was still a little chilly). The ambiance is very cute, albeit the space itself is tiny, so keep that in mind, and tables are very close together, especially inside the restaurant. The menu is not super long, which I appreciated and very simple. I ordered the Belgium waffle and my friend ordered one of the egg dishes. Everything was very good, and the food came out relatively quickly. The service was attentive and it felt much less crowded sitting outside than it did inside. The line for this spot was super long! They pull you based on how many are in a group. Smaller groups will get called faster so parties of one - two. We only waited at buvettes for 5 minutes. Super tiny spot, they had a small outdoor seating area. Be prepared to get really comfortable with your neighbors, you'll be arm to arm or back to back Initially we were seated at the bar but I was literally touching the person next to me. I couldn't move so I asked to sit in the seats next to the bar... those seats were worse. Every person walking by brushes up on you and the table is smaller. Portions were VERY SMALL for the price so I was disappointed by that. I was hoping for a portion larger than small Plates or saucers for tea. Buvette is a charming French spot, that I have been to a few times over the years. The ambiance, service, and food is always great. I was able to walk in on a weekday for brunch, however I know on the weekends there's typically a line. I ordered the Pain Perdu and a hot chocolate. In the past, I have gotten the waffle (which I love) but decided to venture out. Overall, the food was really well done. FINALLY after years and years of this place being on my list I got the chance to go over labor day weekend recently. It was delicious, and I can see why they've held their own in the brunch scene of NYC for so long. First, I was impressed by their cafe miel which is a cappuccino/latte of sorts with honey. I am very skeptical of French coffee when they make espresso-based drinks, as I've been burned many times in France by bad coffee. This was excellent - smooth and integrated texture, and not too sweet despite the honey, honoring the excellent quality of both the honey and the coffee. The croque monsieur was delicious as well - you know you have to get it when you get French brunch. The bread was a nice texture, everything was married together nicely and it was nice and savory, though not as impressive as the french toast and chocolate almond croissant. French toast with berries was DELICIOUS. I mean that brioche was soooooo light and fluffy, savory and sweet and such a dream. It was the star of the show. I saw this place on instagram while looking for breakfast spots in the city and I'm really glad i stopped by their breakfast is so delicious! Food: Waffle sandwich [5/5]: One of the best breakfast sandwiches I've had in greenwich. The Belgian waffle is so delicious, soft, and sweet. The cheese pull on the sandwich was unexpected and so good, the bacon was so sweet and savory and to top it all off the running egg was just a chefs kiss. This sandwich is a must have. I would highly recommend this item even if you're planning on getting something else. Best item on their menu and I don't think anything else could top it. Me and my aunt both really enjoyed this item and would definitely get it again if we're nearby. Belgian waffle [4/5]: This single waffle topped with an assortment of berries was honestly pretty good. It's not visible but it also comes with some type of syrup that's really good. They put the perfect amount not too much or too little. Honestly I liked it. Not as filling as the sandwich but it's still pretty good I wouldn't order this alone but I still recommend getting it if you're curious. Lemonade [4/5]: The lemonade is house made according to our server, Hart. Its really delicious I would've preferred if 85% of the cup wasn't ice because it was honestly delicious not refill for $11 delicious..but it was very delicious nontheless! Ginger soda [4/5]: Its very strong if you're into ginger tea you'd like this since it's basically a cold sparkled version of that. Hart recommended that for my aunt and she loved it a lot. It's also made with a house made ginger syrup. It is really strong though. Also had 85% ice in the cup and 15% of the drink. Ambiance [3/5]: I shouldn't have expected much out of a restaurant in greenwich, EXTREMELY cramped but they have an outdoor seating which honestly wasn't bad I'm not sure why so many people sat inside when outside had heating and was practically empty. Inside is so cramped you're bumping backs with people and the store is very busy as well so there will definitely be a crowd when you go. We waited two minutes for a seat and decided we'd rather sit outside to avoid being on top of people which is one hundred percent the better option. Service [5/5]: The staff was friendly, and they checked up on us. The food came pretty quick despite them being ridiculously busy. There isn't much to say really about the service it was quick, friendly, and efficient. Overall, this place has some delicious food I'd 100% order to go rather than eating inside sincd it's really cramped. But with great food, and great service you can't complain too much. Didn't ask for my server's name, but she's got short, curly brunette hair and she made such good recommendations and was just a joy. Manager, if you see this, please send her my compliments! They have an extensive list of non-alcoholic drinks (just ask your server. I will be back to try the NA margarita). I tried the watermelon lemonde. It's sparkling - which kinda gives the illusion of ferment - but it's sweet and refreshing. The lemon part of the drink isn't super pronounced (it's there, you just have to look for it) but honestly, I'm not mad at it. It's genuinely a very tasty drink and I couldn't recommend it more. I have this place on my list of favorite French fries in the city, and I'm happy to know it still is. If you like a 'limpier' fry - kind of like the ones from five guys - this is a great option. I tried one of their specials; the poulet roti - very simple flavors but very well roasted and juicy. This meal was so filling, but I can never say no to a sweet treat so I had their famous chocolate mousse. Perfection. Pure perfection. We had a lovely Saturday brunch at Buvette, a charming little French spot. It was busy around 11 AM, and we waited about 40 minutes, but it was worth it! The helpful staff managing the line checked in often with updates, and the servers were all very attentive. Just a heads up, your whole party needs to be physically present before you can be seated. Areived ~10:45 am on a Saturday for a party of two, and was seated ~11:25 am. The staff was communicative on timing while on line and frequently checked in. You can sometimes get in more quickly if open to bar seating. Pain Perdue: The Brioche bread was spongy and bouncy, and absorbed the crème well for flavorful bites.
