wish i read more yelp reviews before coming here. i really wanted to love buvette due to its charm as i thought it was cute and quaint in pictures. however, this establishment, especially the service, left a bad taste. walking in, with my orange juice bottle in hand, this may be important for later. we were quickly sat and i placed my bottle on the table. we then ordered and received our food. to be honest, the food was average and basic. halfway through eating, i was told by an older server to save my orange juice for later (?) or to put it away (?) with no explanation. i honestly don't even know what he exactly said other than him being abrupt and pointing at my bottle with an impatient and serious face. this completely left a sour taste in my mouth, no pun intended. it's just weird because i'm sure the other server(s) that sat us, took our order, and dropped off our food saw it, but didn't say anything. consequently, i put it away. and yes, before all this i took a couple sips inside, but there were no visible signs stating "no outside food or drinks." while i get, there may be legitimate reasons why food establishments may enforce this rule, it wouldn't hurt to communicate about it politely. or just post a visible sign. sad to say our only major interactions with the staff was this orange juice bottle issue. in the end, food was mediocre, service was uhm questionable, and the ambiance is cute. however, in my honest opinion, the ambiance doesn't make up for the rest. tldr: it's not worth it. read more

I can't believe I didn't write a review for this spot last time I was hear, a few years ago. It was so great then, that I planned my Sunday morning around it this trip. As with last time there was a decent line wait outside as I walked up. I don't have the patience for lines so that tells ya how much I wanted to visit again. As I was solo this breakfast, I got a spot at the counter fairly quickly. The counter is the best spot. Its fairly small, but some how al dishes and drinks still fit in front of ya. I ordered the same tasty beverage I had gotten last time, a sloe gin fizz. after they whip up the egg white blended drink its placed by me with a colorful straw. great as it was the last time. I got their waffle sandwich and a almond croissant as well. The croissant was phenomenal, and the sandwich was pretty darn good as well. As they always have playing, tunes from the 20's can barely be hear over the din of the restaurant. One of the perks of sitting at the counter is most of the food comes out of that small kitchenette there. Watching the food preparation ballet that takes place is fun to witness. I can't wait till the next time I can stop into Buvette. It's an elegant way to have brunch. read more

Best brunch in the west village! Perfect for solo dining or a girls brunch and not a long wait at all. Servers are super warm, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu! The ambience is also stunning, I love the old school jazz music playing in the background and it's nice to have the option of either sitting in their peaceful lush garden or the vintage bar room that feels like a quaint townhouse. I would highly recommend the belgian waffle (lots of fresh berries!) and the morning elixir, which comes as a fairly large carafe of green juice. Went for lunch and had a terrible experience. First when we asked for a table , the host/waitress asked us to wait on the bench and she would get us. We realized as time went on that she was actually seating other walk ins who arrived after us. So we went in and it turns out she had forgotten about us. When we went to order, the waitress could not answer basic menu questions. I ordered the chèvre eggs and they were so bad. They arrived impossibly fast and were clearly just from a tray of eggs that had been made earlier and were watery, oily, bland and congealed. The toast they came with was stale. Get the chocolate mousse! We came here because a friend told us their chocolate mousse was "to die for" and they were right. It's shareable size, delicious and has so much cocoa oh my goodness! Not to mention the cream topping I'm sold! We also decided to get dinner cause we were already there and obviously why not! Dinner plug! I had been wanting to try Buvette since I moved to NYC almost 5 years ago, particularly to try their delicious looking eggs. After sleeping on it for a long time, someone mentioned to me how they have one of the best chocolate mousse in the city and I knew I had to come immediately. I decided to try their dinner and it was one of the best decisions I have made. This place does not take reservations so my fiancé and I walked in at 7pm on a Saturday-- we were told the wait time was around 45min but it ended up being more around 35 during which we were able to order a drink while we waited. My fiancé got a St. Germain aperitif which had elderflower liquor and was super refreshing and tasty. I ordered a French 75 which has now become one of my favorite cocktails-- citrusy, refreshing, and bubbly without being sweet. We sat quickly after and our waiter was very professional, and warm. He shared the special for the day which was a burger with blue cheese that sounded tempting but we opted to try: - Carottes Rapees: very refreshing side of carrots that actually balanced out our meals very nicely with its subtle acidity, sweetness, and nuttiness from the pistachios. Very good! - Coq au vin: my fiancé loved this dish! He said it's one of the best coq au vin he has had in the city-- the chicken was very tender, the mushrooms were perfectly cooked, the bacon bits added a strong umami flavor, and the sauce was super rich and comforting with the perfect level of tanginess from the red wine. Perfect for a cold day. - Moules au curry: another phenomenal dish! The fries it came with were actually amazing and we should have gotten a whole extra side. The mussel portion was generous and the meat itself was large. These came with a super light curry cream sauce-- I wouldn't quite classify it as a curry since the flavor was more cream predominant but the hint of curry was very pleasant. Definitely would get my own next time! - Chocolate mousse: star of the show! This was truly reminiscent of the chocolate mousse I had in France that I was so obsessed with: rich, thick, creamy, with a strong chocolate flavor that was not too sweet. It came with a nice layer of unsweetened whipped cream on top to add a refreshing balance (I honestly could have had it without the cream but it was amazing nonetheless). If you love chocolate mousse, you HAVE to try the one here. Overall, I absolutely loved this place for dinner. The ambiance was super cute and romantic, and felt very intimate, like a neighborhood bistro in Paris. The service was excellent, and the food was top notch. A little on the pricier side but not crazy compared to the standard in NYC. I was also a huge fan of their cocktails! I ordered the waffle sandwich, and everything was so fresh. While messy - I would suggest using a knife and fork - you can experience the congealing of flavors and textures in every bite. The portion size was spot-on as well, not greasy diner enormous and not pretentiously small. The cappuccino was incredible. There was a great balance between the rich layers of espresso, steamed milk, and foamy top layer. Every sip was velvety smooth. Service (4/5): The place was packed with a line several people deep outside. Thankfully, we had reservations. The building is not large but there are a lot of tables of varying sizes to get the maximum occupancy. You might be sitting right up against another table. Our server was very attentive and helpful when it came to selecting what we wanted to eat. It did take a while to get refills for our water but a lot of that was due to how busy it was. I visited Buvette with a friend on a Friday at 5pm and was able to be sat right away. The place is tight so you will have a tiny table and be close to your neighbors. They have both indoor and outdoor seating options. I opted to get the lemonade and it was perfectly refreshing. I also got some olives as I was just there for a drink. I also decided to get a dessert while there - the mousse au chocolat - and it was AMAZING. The texture was creamy but dense, but not overpowering. Came here for brunch on a Saturday morning with my boyfriend. Got here at around 11 and there was a short line. We got seated after a 30ish min wait. We got the croque madame and saumon fume as our entree and a scone to share. The croque madame was a little too cheesy for me but my boyfriend enjoyed it. The texture of the egg of the saumon fume was very smooth and it tasted great with the smoked salmon. The scone was probably my favorite of the whole meal. It was served warm with butter and marmalade on the side. The scone was light and buttery and the marmalade was perfectly sweetened and it paired well with the scone. Overall, our experience here was pretty good. The tables were very small and it felt a bit too crowded in there. Price was reasonable but portion was very small. I was glad that we got the scone to share because we probably wouldn't have enough food otherwise. It was a good one time experience but I don't think it was worth the wait. Wanting to feel like you're in a Paris restaurant? Buvette is it! Loved this little cafe style busy little Parisian delight. It's close quarters inside but so worth it. They don't take reservations and there can be a line outside and how lucky were we that we got seated right away even with a line! We were party of 3 and most waiting were part of 2 . So we got the big table in the back of the restaurant which we had to share for a bit but they left but long after we sat . We pretty much had the whole upper level to ourselves as it mostly housed the staff kitchen . We loved the view from up there where you can see the whole running of the place. Also there is a patio for warmer weather. Initially we just came to get a drink .. but we looked at the menu and couldn't resist a couple of things! Drinks menu was fantastic! All the French must haves. Great cocktails too. Of course lots of wine and beer too I had the jasmine cocktail, gin, Campari, Cointreau and lemon. Perfect blend of everything! Loved this! Pretty too. My friends had cocktail that I don't remember but know it was pretty potent all liquor! Also the classic French Kir royale. Also all served up pretty! Definitely worth coming just for drinks here. We then tried the scone , made in house served with butter and house made marmalade. You'll notice a lot of oranges around the place and then we realized they make so much of their stuff from scratch. Juices, jams marmalade etc. The scone was whole wheat but oh so delish. Nice and crumbly. Perfect with the butter and marmalade. Pretty amazing scone I have to say. Then we tried the croque madam . Elevated grilled cheese with ham, Gruyère and a sunny side egg on top. This was amazing as you tell their ingredients are top shelf. The egg perfectly cooked and with a jammy yolk. That Gruyère cheese was quite decadent. So yes good and drinks are amazing. Had a glass of the "Dm. Gouin 'Candide' Cabernet Franc, Bourgueil, Val de Loire '21" and it was so tasty. Light, crisp, aromatic, and a bit tangy. My friend got the Japanese whiskey on the rocks and we also enjoyed a Croque monsieur together and olives. The timing and service was excellent and would definitely want to check this place out in another city. Ambiance was relaxed and sophisticated. Stumbled upon this spot while walking around and stopped for brunch. They are one of the FEW spots in the area that serve a full menu at 3 pm. Everything is delicious, but the open faced toasts are my personal favorite. Don't forget to grab a cappuccino as well! After a last minute change of plans for my friends birthday, we were able to get a table here (walk-in) late night on a Sunday when most other places were closed. It's tiny and charming just like the West Village, the service was wonderful, and we were able to turn my friends birthday around after an upsetting emergency early in the evening! They brought his dessert out with a candle, and I got the chocolate mousse which is apparently world famous (it's definitely enough to share!). I wasn't necessarily starving so I got a house salad which was very good. My friend got the squash soup and sausage (which was tiny haha), and the soup came in a little dish similar to what french onion soup might come in. The restaurant is Gallic-themed and chef Jody Williams is famous for her rustic cooking. They also serve brunch so I will be back as I live in the neighborhood. Highly recommend! read more

I like my coffee with no sugar, so pairing it with a sweet bite is always a good choice. This croissant is flaky and covered in almond slivers and powdered sugar. YUM - Jambon cru & Chevre: Both of these are steamed egg dishes on crusty toast. The jambon includes thinly sliced prosciutto with shaved parm and the chevre includes goat cheese and sundried cherry tomatoes. We devoured both of them, but the star of these dishes is the steamed eggs, which are cooked with the steamer of a coffee machine! It's a creamy revelation! The table was TINY and we were wedged into a busy corner but honestly the vibes inside were still really good and we didn't mind. Service was soooo fast and they had our food out in minutes. Food was pretty good, we both ordered the egg dishes and the eggs were cooked really nice and fluffy. Portion was good, definitely plenty of eggs lol but the menu overall is a bit overpriced. Almond chocolate croissants were good. Spritzes were fine but the glasses were small (esp for the price IMO). Waited much too long in the cold outside to be seated but I guess this is a hot spot. I wish they had taken our name down and we were able to return to check in. There was a very kind woman that came out to check on the line every 10-15 min though. Once we were seated, it felt a little cramped but again, I think that's kind of the draw of this place. The eggs were some of the best I've had, I have no idea how they made them so well. The French toast was also excellent. I have no complaints about the food itself. There was also a little mixup with our order so we got an extra dish that we didn't really want but when the food is this good, it's hard to say no.
