It's ok, decent brunch food but I'm not sure if it's anything special. The staff was super friendly though.
Buvette was able to accommodate me for an early dinner shortly after my arrival in New York, specifically the West Village. Buvette is one of five W. Village eateries helmed by power-chef duo Jody Williams and Rita Sodi; four are within a block of each other. I passed the other three (Bar Pisellino, Via Carota, I Sodi) on my way and all had lines out the door. Carota and Sodi are Italian, Buvette is French. There are 2 other Buvettes in Asia and one coming soon in London. Buvette does not do reservations. Buvette is a charming but tiny/cramped space, made more tiny within the last year by NYC's removal of pandemic-era street patios which greatly helped dining capacity. Buvette may sometimes have a few front sidewalk tables, and there's a tiny outdoor patio in the back. The tables and dishware are also tiny. There's a kitchen in the back, but some food is also prepared below the bar in front, where there seem to be some ovens. The food seems reliably consistent here. The menu is short but there are daily specials. I ordered a non-alcoholic ginger soda, crab tartine (a special), lobster a l'Americaine (lobster pot pie) and frites. The soda is always on the menu and is refreshing, with a nice snap of ginger. The crab tartine was fab, a fresh crab salad with avocado atop toast. The lobster pot pie was made in the under-bar oven, a small serving of lobster and veggies with a golden puff pastry topper. Delish. The frites were nicely crisp, served with an aioli. Service was okay, but my hot food took about 45 minutes to come out, apparently because my ticket was lost. Overall a pleasant meal, my first during this visit.
Still an enjoyable breakfast after all these years. Yes, it has tourists, yes the chairs are beyond uncomfortable, yes it's tiny, but all this aside the quality is high and the prices are reasonable for what you get.
My friend and I came here a few weekends ago for brunch. We knew that they didn't take reservations and we would likely be waiting in line. Thankfully, we didn't have to wait too long as we were asked if we would be willing to sit in their back patio, and we said yes, which absolutely paid off (as most people wanted to sit inside as it was still a little chilly). The ambiance is very cute, albeit the space itself is tiny, so keep that in mind, and tables are very close together, especially inside the restaurant. The menu is not super long, which I appreciated and very simple. I ordered the Belgium waffle and my friend ordered one of the egg dishes. Everything was very good, and the food came out relatively quickly. The service was attentive and it felt much less crowded sitting outside than it did inside. I'd definitely come back here again!
food was good and ambiance was nice but they sat us at a table that should not have existed with barely enough space for me and another person by the stairs. kind of made it hard to enjoy my friends bday breakfast but thats something we can get over i suppose. i like the outfits everyone was wearing and the food felt fresher than the average new york standard im used to. would come back.
Tbh worth the wait! Cute spot and the food was pretty good, very Parisian! I'd skip the latte and jamon next time and just get the madam and French toast. Very flavorful and filling. Service was very fast!
Buvette is a charming French spot, that I have been to a few times over the years. The ambiance, service, and food is always great. I was able to walk in on a weekday for brunch, however I know on the weekends there's typically a line. I ordered the Pain Perdu and a hot chocolate. In the past, I have gotten the waffle (which I love) but decided to venture out. Overall, the food was really well done. I think I prefer the waffle since it is less sweet, but you really can't go wrong. I would recommend trying Buvette for breakfast or brunch if you can!
So happy I stumbled upon this spot while I was waiting for a lunch reservation. I was warmly welcomed as soon as I stepped in and felt like I was transported to Europe. Perfect cozy date spot if you're looking for one! Service was attentive and kind, even as a solo customer only getting coffee. Loved my beverage and I would definitely go back to try their food. I saw a couple love their dessert so much that they ordered another to go!
Food - 10/10 food that felt like I was in Europe (even though I've never even been) The almond croissants were so cute, it came with two. So you could share or eat both (what I did). The scrambled eggs were generous and were already salted and peppered which I loved. The ORANGE JUICE... get the orange juice! Tasted like it had JUST been squeezed. My mom and I loved that. Really good cappuccinos too. Service - The service was good, your water glass will always be filled, which was nice. They are very attentive to whatever you would need, it was a sweet restaurant! Ambiance - It's a tiny + quaint cafe. So if you are seated at a two top, expect to be very friendly with the person next to you. But I honestly didn't mind it!
Buvette is a cozy French restaurant in West Village. Seating here can be tight here, but I do like how the restaurant looks! I came here at a weekday evening around 6 and it was definitely quite busy. However there were some seating at the bar. Their dishes are small so definitely worth ordering multiple dishes. I had their mussels with fries and the lobster pot pie. I really enjoyed the mussels and the fries were nicely seasoned. I liked the pot pie, but it felt more like a soup than a pie though.
I love this place! Definitely one of the best West Village restaurants it needs to be here forever! This tiny cozy French restaurant is so beautiful and delicious, had to go back twice in a week! They seat you right away and they don't take reservations. I tried few dishes and they all were delicious. They do have a slightly different menu depending when you visit the restaurant.(Freshly squeezed juices in the morning time etc) Highly recommend.
It was busy for lunch on a Friday but we got a seat in their back garden area which was very nice. Food was really good (croque madame and pain au chocolat with almonds). The rosé was DELIGHTFUL. One of the best pours I've had in a bit.
FINALLY after years and years of this place being on my list I got the chance to go over labor day weekend recently. It was delicious, and I can see why they've held their own in the brunch scene of NYC for so long. First, I was impressed by their cafe miel which is a cappuccino/latte of sorts with honey. I am very skeptical of French coffee when they make espresso-based drinks, as I've been burned many times in France by bad coffee. This was excellent - smooth and integrated texture, and not too sweet despite the honey, honoring the excellent quality of both the honey and the coffee. The croque monsieur was delicious as well - you know you have to get it when you get French brunch. The bread was a nice texture, everything was married together nicely and it was nice and savory, though not as impressive as the french toast and chocolate almond croissant. French toast with berries was DELICIOUS. I mean that brioche was soooooo light and fluffy, savory and sweet and such a dream. It was the star of the show. The chocolate almond croissants also had a great fresh texture. I mean wow. Would come back in a heartbeat. Excellent brunch.

We stopped in for a quick bite after trying to get into L'Artusi and so glad we did! We were able to get a seat at the bar right when we walked in and the service was great! After a last minute change of plans for my friends birthday, we were able to get a table here (walk-in) late night on a Sunday when most other places were closed. It's tiny and charming just like the West Village, the service was wonderful, and we were able to turn my friends birthday around after an upsetting emergency early in the evening! They brought his dessert out with a candle, and I got the chocolate mousse which is apparently world famous (it's definitely enough to share!). I wasn't necessarily starving so I got a house salad which was very good. My friend got the squash soup and sausage (which was tiny haha), and the soup came in a little dish similar to what french onion soup might come in. The restaurant is Gallic-themed and chef Jody Williams is famous for her rustic cooking. They also serve brunch so I will be back as I live in the neighborhood. Highly recommend! read more

So yummy!!! The eggs were perfectly fluffy and seasoned. The prosciutto was super delicious and paired well with the cheesy bread and eggs. The croque madame was also really delicious. The bread was perfectly toasted and the cheese and ham paired perfectly. One of the best cappuccinos I've ever had! We sat at the bar and it's super cute too. We did wait in line for maybe ~30 mins, but worth it! read more
Très adorable ;) Showed up at noon on a rainy Saturday, and they immediately had tables ready for 2 people with no wait! Amazing. I didn't love the table they sat us at, though; it was way in the back right next to the kitchen, which had its door open - so it was a lot of loud clanking & not really any of the light / atmosphere that they had closer to the front of the restaurant / windows lol. I ordered the chèvre eggs & toast and was so pleasantly surprised! The sun-dried tomatoes were bursting with flavor, and the eggs + chèvre were nice and creamy -- contrasted against the crispy toast (which tasted like it had been grilled with olive oil - so good). There were a few unannounced capers on top lol, but I just pushed them to the side. My friend got the jambon cru eggs & toast and really liked hers as well. It was also a pretty filling dish! I didn't get a coffee because I was planning to try a different coffee place after, but everyone around me was drinking delicious-looking cappuccinos. I also was curious about the waffles, almond croissants, and madeleines -- next time! Honestly this place is damn good but the portion sizes are itty bitty. Came here Saturday brunch and didn't have a reservation so I decided to come pretty early (9:30) and was able to get seated right away. This was a good call because come 15-20 minutes later and the lines were out the door. - CRQ Madame - I feel like usually Croque Madame are too dry for me but I actually really liked this dish as the mayonnaise(??) complimented the cheese, bread, and ham very well. I also loved the egg on top - especially since the yolk drenched the entire sandwich. - Pain Perdu - I usually am pretty skeptical of eating sweet things for breakfast but DAMN this was good. I really appreciated that even without dipping the bread into the eggy sauce, that the bread was already full coated with flavor and the sauce was just an extra oomph. Also I didn't find it too sweet which was nice. Honestly I could just eat the cream sauce and be happy. Overall, I loved eating here especially because the place is so so cute! However, I will say that I have to give it -1 star because the portion sizes are simply too small. They really are the size of a tapas and definitely need to order more than one to get full. read more

Buvette is a great spot for a party of two but probably not bigger lol... when we arrived there was a line out the door but when we asked about the wait we were sat right away since we were a small group. The table was TINY and we were wedged into a busy corner but honestly the vibes inside were still really good and we didn't mind. Service was soooo fast and they had our food out in minutes. Food was pretty good, we both ordered the egg dishes and the eggs were cooked really nice and fluffy. Portion was good, definitely plenty of eggs lol but the menu overall is a bit overpriced. Almond chocolate croissants were good. Spritzes were fine but the glasses were small (esp for the price IMO). Overall a solid experience, and would come back if I was in the area and craving a French brunch read more

Buvette has a lot of potential but I personally thought the portions were not substantial whatsoever. The food was good, but for the cost, I would've expected to be at least a bit closer to full after ordering 4+ dishes for 3 people. After eating, I was craving another meal somewhere nearby. However, I know there's a lot of hype surrounding Buvette so I had to give it a try. It is pretty busy, so if you can get a reservation, I would recommend doing so! Their foods were delicious with lots of French appetizers, and small dishes. I would recommend getting the Moules au Curry, as the curry sauce, mussels, and fries complemented each other well. Again, the main reason I am docking off points is because after drinks and food, the bill wasn't cheap (as expected in NYC), and I left still hungry for more. read more
Very Parisian for not being in Paris, such a quintessential little atmosphere. In regard to the food, brunch is the way to go, however the evening ambiance is exceptional. Either way, it's always delicious, and from my experience, they really have consistency down. For dinner, the coq au vin is great. For brunch, the french toast is very impressive, one of the best I've had (but I'm not extremely well versed in the french toast category). The chocolate mousse is one of my top 5 deserts, worldwide. This is the wowest of wows of anything you could order here. read more

Waited much too long in the cold outside to be seated but I guess this is a hot spot. I wish they had taken our name down and we were able to return to check in. There was a very kind woman that came out to check on the line every 10-15 min though. Once we were seated, it felt a little cramped but again, I think that's kind of the draw of this place. The eggs were some of the best I've had, I have no idea how they made them so well. The French toast was also excellent. I have no complaints about the food itself. There was also a little mixup with our order so we got an extra dish that we didn't really want but when the food is this good, it's hard to say no. Definitely the most pricey breakfast/brunch I've had in a while but worth it if you want to impress out-of-towners or have a fancy brunch with friends. read more
I treated a colleague to brunch at Buvette as a holiday gift, and it did not disappoint! The neighborhood is adorable and full of such charming shops and restaurants. Buvette is no exception! The restaurant is cozy and the perfect spot to break bread with friends! We ordered the croque madame and Belgian waffles, and the tastes and textures were perfect! We wanted a little bit of salty and sweet. The waiter also recommended I try the ginger lemon tea, and it was incredibly fresh! No tea bags, just the perfect remedy for my dry throat this winter! My friend also loved that they were able to make him a decaf latte with such care! read more

Expected a lot from this place. Granted me and a friend walk in at 9pm for dinner and was able to grab a proper seat. I will say there was no reason we had dinner for 2 half hours at the spot because our server forgot about the majority of our order. Food honestly was pretty overrated potatoes and chicken was seasoned well but again nothing exciting for the price. Only thing fairly decent from the spot was the espresso martini and the escargot (we got as appetizers before they forgot about the rest) read more
＊ Pain Perdu The brioche bread was extremely soft and bathed in the creme anglaise, garnished with blueberries and raspberries. I enjoyed the french toast a lot, but $18 with only 1 slice of bread was skimpy. I prefer getting French toasts elsewhere with decent portion or making one at home myself. ＊ Jambon Cru Buvette's steamed egg is famous for a reason - their scrambled eggs was extremely fluffy and creamy. There were a great amount of prosciutto dusted with shaved parmesan flakes over 2 slices of sourdough toast. The prosciutto stood out from the ones you got from supermarket. I would love to go back for the cozy French vibes and quality brunch food, but the line and the pricing made me hesitate. We were shocked when we saw the palm-sized small plates. I don't have a big appetite but the servings were really small and the price was unreasonably high. ＊ Latte, Cappuccino w/ Oat Milk Their coffee were good enough to serve as a great accompaniment of your brunch plates. This restaurant was an absolute TREAT to randomly stumble into on a weekend. We were a bit cold and had just exited a nearby cocktail bar; wanted some late night drinks and light food with a cozy, yet slightly high-end, atmosphere. This was exactly what we were looking for. The Ratatouille Tartine was so good! So was the Tajine de Potiron. Absolutely delicious wine, and my boyfriend ordered a macchiato which was surprisingly refined in flavor. I've been meaning to try Buvette for ages and finally found some time to stop by for a weekday dinner. My friend and I had a reservation, but even though there aren't many slots online, when we arrived, there were still plenty of tables available for walk-ins. (I assume the queue on weekends is a different story). The other reviews have covered this enough, even so, I was still a bit surprised at how really quite small the restaurant is :0 Nice traditional decor overall (although I'm not sure how much of that is simply old versus intentionally antique haha). We ordered the dauphinois (potato gratin), a croque monsieur, and and their daily special, the "gratin ancienne" ... which was a bit confusing at first, because I'm almost certain that this usually refers to gratin dauphinois à l'ancienne, i.e. the potato dish that we ordered. But I digress. Anyway, their gratin ancienne was a baked pappardelle dish with béchamel, gruyere, and bacon (so technically yes gratin but also hm). Croque monsieur was very tasty - not too salty, perfect amount of cheese on top, and the nicely toasted bread paired very nicely with the savoury ham. I was a little disappointed that they didn't have the croque madame available for dinner (only the croque forestier otherwise) but this was a great choice regardless. The dauphinois was my favourite dish. Potatoes were soft yet crispy on the top, and the butter/cream sauce was very rich (definitely on the heavy and salty side for sure, but still not bad). The pasta dish was... understandably... very similar to the potatoes au gratin. The thick chunks of bacon were very rich and I thought presented a nice contrast to the béchamel sauce (yeah no kidding - there was a Very Heavy layer of béchamel). Overall, not bad as well - it was also a bit too heavy for my taste, but would recommend if they have this special again. All in all, a rather satisfying meal, and for less than expected (although nowadays who knows how much going out to eat *should* cost anymore?) Will definitely be back - I'd love to try their lunch/brunch menus sometimes (much less looking forward to the looming sceptre of long queues..) read more
Cute little French spot with solid food in the west village! We waited in line but it moved super quick on a Saturday for brunch. The eggs were tasty and coffee was decent. I wish they had more outdoor seating and slightly better vibes inside but was a great find for last minute no-res brunch! read more

A very tiny, pricey French bistro. A romantic spot that I'd recommend more for a drink than a meal We waited on line and squeezed into a shared table. The waiter really hurried us along to order which was a bit aggressive. We ordered two pastries and they were fine, but honestly a little expensive and small- I'd rather go to one of the many amazing bakeries in the city I will say the French toast was excellent and then the veggie croque forestier was basically just bread and veggies covered in cheese so I wasn't impressed. Might as well have a much cheaper slice of pizza Overall, I'd come back if I was in the area with a +1 looking for a drink. This place is not meant for groups read more
Came here for brunch with some friends on a Saturday morning. Wait wasn't too bad, less than maybe 15 minutes. Very lively inside with a good and tasty selection of items. I got one of the egg and toasts: the eggs are so fluffy and creamy and delicious, I highly recommend. The belgian waffle was a bit dry and not to my taste, but the French toast that another table got looked incredible, though didn't try it myself (I didn't even see it on the menu). The cappuccino I had was fine, but note that they don't have things like flavored syrups, matcha, chai, and things like that: vegan folks may struggle, it isn't that kind of place. The space felt very French and NYC: cute, stylish, and well aged. It is my kind of place that's down to earth in some respects, but takes their food and service seriously at the same time. read more
We enjoyed an excellent lunch al fresco at Buvette. The menu is brief, and is focused on classic French cafe fare. The service was friendly but slightly disconnected, and the prices were high, but this is NYC and the experience was excellent. The salad with roast chicken was perfectly executed, with the right balance of roast chicken, French beans, and potatoes, all in an excellent mustardy dressing. The croque forestier featured wild mushrooms and sun-dried tomatoes under a blanket of melted gruyere. It was very tasty but seemed as if it had been made earlier and reheated. Buvette is a taste of Paris in NYC! Came here for brunch on a Sunday morning with my boyfriend. Since Buvette does not take reservations, we arrived around 11 am and were told the wait would be about 30 minutes; however, we only waited 15. While the line outside may look intimidating, the staff at Buvette is very efficient, and the food comes out super fast. Here's what we ordered for the two of us! Croque Monsieur: (5/5) I cannot emphasize enough that this is a must-order! The fresh bread covered in gruyere pairs perfectly with the salty ham. Toasted to perfection, it had an incredible crunch without being too dry or soggy. It was so indulgent but absolutely delicious! Jambon Cru: (4/5) This was the thing that I was most excited to try; however, I left feeling minorly disappointed. While the eggs were perfectly cooked and creamy, I found the overall flavor to be lacking. It was good to try, but I probably wouldn't order it again, as I definitely preferred the croque monsieur! While the food at Buvette was delicious, my biggest issue was the amount of space inside the restaurant, specifically how small/close together the tables were. It was borderline comical as you were basically sitting with the tables next to you. Thankfully, we were seated at the bar, so we could sit more comfortably; however, the overall size of the tables and the restaurant as a whole would definitely deter me from coming back. read more
Knocked a star off becoz of the price & the tiny portion. Otherwise it's easily a four star because the food is pretty good and everything is very French! ~ Pain Perdu ~ Very very tiny piece of French toast, just about larger then palm size, tasted very good though! Brioche bun is golden crispy with a soft and custardy inside. The creme anglaise is very light, creamy and not sweet at all, the brioche soaks up all the sauce yum. ~ Jambon Cru ~ It may look simple, but tasted very good! The scrambled eggs are super creamy and fluffy, prosciutto looks and tasted premium with the deep pink colour, very fragrant and flavourful. The toast is soft and moist too. Will I be back? Maybe Whilst the food are good, I wouldn't say I am enormously impressed or wow'd. Especially consider the potion and price... $18 for a larger the palm size french toast is not justifiable. Most restaurants would be giving at least 2 pieces, or just a giant one double in size. read more

Have not been here for several years but it was like the old days. I remember the Croque Monsieur and Croque Madame like no other establishment. But this time I ordered the eggs and prosciutto with parmesan on top. My grown son ordered the Merguez egg special. The coffee was extremely delicious. They are happily accommodating to a Decaf drinker. My son ordered the green morning elixir. I thought it was a little too sweet but he loved it. We also had a side of the Almond croissant. They were delicious but a little hard. It always feels like I traveled to Paris to visit Buvette. What a feeling!!! read more
Buvette, nestled in the West Village, captures the essence of a quaint Parisian cafe. It's extremely popular, especially on weekends, so arriving early is a must if you want to snag a spot. We enjoyed the salmon toast and the croque madame--both dishes were delicious and exemplify simple, classic French fare. The space is tight, with very small tables and seating packed close together. Came for brunch on a Saturday for two people. As many reviewers have said, expect a line. Unfortunately you can't just put your number down and wander, you have to physically wait in line and a host will periodically come out and seat parties based on what's available. The line does move faster than you'd expect. I do NOT recommend coming here with more than 4ish people, as the restaurant is narrow and many tables are two toppers. I've been here a few times and all in all it's good, but some of the food is hit or miss and nothing really stands out. What you come here for is the entire experience - the restaurant is an iconic neighborhood gem, charming and quaint inside. But I personally don't think it's worth waiting for more than 20 minutes to be seated. Ordered the below (portions are definitely small!) -Almond Croissant: order comes with two. Not the best I've had, but still tasty. -Croque Monsieur: the best thing we ordered. Petite in size, but delicious. I would come back for this. -Jambon Cru: this has potential. Even with the prosciutto, the eggs needed more cheese / salt / pepper. They were bland. But I will say, the texture was perfect: pillowy and soft. This is a tiny order so if you're hungry you may also want something in addition. -Waffle Sandwich: this was the biggest disappointment. I do not recommend. It was soggy, proportions were off (too much waffle and only one piece of bacon), and overall just didn't taste that good. read more

Visited Buvette with a plan to come in early to avoid an agonizing wait and it was a success lol We arrived at 9:45am on a sunday and were seated at the bar in 10mins (it wouldve been a longer wait for a regular table indoors for two) .It wasnt such a bad spot actually. Noise was average but the volume was a little less by the bar I guess coz it was facing away from the rest of the crowd. Service was pleasant and efficient. We got our almond croissant first and it was one of the best that Ive had in a while - some crunch from crust and the almonds but soft in the center. And there is sweetness there too which I liked! The latte was very good and I also liked their Cafe Meil (has cinnamon). For the food we got the Jambon Cru which had nice soft scrambled eggs! I love the texture and the mild clean flavor of the eggs. Add with some pepper, prosciutto and parmesan and it was actually a lovely breakfast. The Belgian waffle was surprisingly good too! Fruits were fresh, waffle was soft and the creme fraiche actually elevated that flavor! The breakfast/brunch menu was really just something simple but I liked how they actually executed the whole dish and kept the flavor just so pleasant. Thats probably why I ended up giving the five stars after debating if it shouldve been a four. Anyway hubster agrees a 5 star is in order and so there you have it. read more

When you walk into Buvette, the ambiance transports you to a bistro in Paris. Intimate space with ample seating, so get cozy with your fellow diners. We came in for a weekend breakfast/brunch, and to beat the rush we came early around 930am and was seated right away. We started with the special fruit salad that was in a fresh squeezed juice, but was a little too tarte for my taste. Then we ordered a Croque Madam and a Jambon Cru. And finished with two petit almond croissants. The dishes looked small but surprisingly very filling. The prosciutto tasted super fresh and Jambon Cru eggs were so creamy. Overall delicious experience, but the dishes could have used a green salad to add another dimension to the flavors. read more

I think anyone under 5 year old can still go anywhere without vaccination for now.
Is the outdoor seating actually outdoors/ventilated (not some ridiculous enclosed structure built on the sidewalk)?

Is it hard to get a table for 4 on the weekends?
Yes - you can call ahead and see what the wait is like; there is seating at the bar but even that is busy!
How difficult would it be to get a table for 6 for weekend brunch (how long of a wait)?
Suggest you call and ask. If it's winter, the garden is closed
Are reservations available?
First come first serve I believe, or at least for brunch. Don't know about dinner
