I grew up on 16th and Mission. I shopped here and got my jewelry repaired before the current owners arrived. I also purchased a pearl and sapphire bracelet from the current owners which was a good experience, and I was able to pawn that bracelet here in the past. Today I had my mother try to pawn my gold charm bracelet which I purchased at Tanforan at S&L gems. She was told they would pass because something about the gold was off. I didn't understand so I had my mother return with me on the phone. I was told the gold is real, but they were not comfortable so, they would pass. Still confused about why I asked more questions (concerned about the quality of my bracelet), but I was spoken over repeatedly by the worker on the phone repeating the same answer. When I asked to speak with the supervisor, I was told he did not want to speak with me. I'm not sure why I would be refused any service, and since I have a serious metal allergy, I highly doubt that my bracelet (I wear everyday) is not pure. I can't help but, think maybe my mother's skin color or age had something to do with the situation because what else could be the motive to refuse business? The reality is that even if something was wrong with the bracelet (it's not), I would have to pay them back to get it returned or, risk not being able to return there. I would've been open to finding a receipt or something to vouch for its authenticity or pawn something else I have but, none of that was offered. I use pawn shops to shop for quality jewelry or, when I find myself in a temporary bind like today. It's sad to know that I am now down 1more resource, and there's another business with rude customer service in the Mission, instead of one that tries to uplift their customers, and community. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME! They have no idea what they're doing. I spoke with someone on the phone prior to my visit at the store. Upon arriving to the store, my husband handed the two gentlemen behind the counter his grandmothers diamond from her engagement ring to have appraised. They came back and said "they couldn't take it because it was a lab grown moissanite". This is absolutely incorrect as this diamond has been appraised not once, not twice but three times in the prior years, we just weren't ready to sell it at the time back then. We immediately went and got three more appraisals directly after we left Buy Sell Loan and all three places laughed at the idea that this diamond was a moisannite. The diamond was in fact real and all three places, all accredited diamond buyers all wanted to take it off our hands as it was a diamond from the 1940's and in incredible condition and color. How insulting that a "diamond buyer" wouldn't have the respect to make sure they weren't insulting a customer with their bogus lab created diamond claim. I have been dealing with this business for years now. Unfortunately had to pawn a couple of items when money was really tight. Fast forward a couple of years til now. Thank goodness money is good now. My things however are still in this establishment, because they don't want to help you get your things back. They have so many hassling rules designed to make it impossible to get your stuff if you have moved out of the city. God Forbid someone should try to stay out of San Francisco during Covid-19! You can't pay extra for them to ship your stuff to you, or have someone pick it up by an arranged proxy. Just impossible. I always will call to make sure I'm paying the proper amount, a person from there end will tell me a price, then I'll send the payment. It is out of the state, so I'm super careful, because I'm not wanting to lose the item. (If the item was not of such sentimental value, I would just abandon it altogether) It will never fail that they will give me the wrong amount owed. Then I'll have to pay more money to resend. All of it is such a cluster f$&k of not being very organized or a good chain of command, or perhaps just a scheme to make a little extra. Then they ask, who did you talk to, and I'm like, YOU. With Pawn Shops they are always right, even when they are not of course. The bottom line here is this : Even after years of working with this company and never having late payments, they could care less about me or my business, or helping me out, even ever so slightly. Find another shop. I know this one doesn't care about the people that keep them in business for sure as represented by the bogus way they continue to treat a loyal customer. Even if the loyalty exists by the mechanism of the trap I'm caught in. This is my first complaint so far. I have just been grinning and bearing until now. The lady at the window today honestly needs another customer service training course. I called in to inquire if they took certain products and she rudely tried to deny service, then caught herself and told us we could come in. We walk in and she told us we would have to wait up to an hour for her to authenticate the items, which SHE COULD HAVE SAID OVER THE PHONE! She turned up quick with a stank ass attitude when we told her we wouldn't wait an hour (while it was already taking way to long for her to figure out her wifi and app settings). We tried selling some other stuff so she switched to her computer and she acted sooo dumb taking halla long to look up one of the items, completely waisting our time on purpose as she clearly saw we were already frustrated with her taking halla long with the previous item. The salesperson and general manager here made me feel like a million bucks. I had been looking for a bike for the last five years, and I walked in and found one that caught my eye. They even lowered the price down to $240, instead of the original $275. The general manager even pumped air into the tires and allowed me to do a test ride around the block. A lot of people feel intimated and shameful when going into pawn shops, for whatever reason. I was treated with the utmost courtesy, respect, and professionalism. I understand this is a business and it needs to make a profit but the level of profit it seeks to make is simply outrageous. The price they will pay for your items is insulting, disrespectful, and is the equivalent of theft. I could give you many examples to show what I'm talking about but will give just two. I brought to them a perfectly operating Oakley Crankcase watch in excellent condition with its owner's manual and original packaging. This is a high quality watch made for Oakley in Switzerland. This watch had a retail price of $900 when I bought it (you can verify the price here http://www.besportier.com/archives/oakley-crankcase-watch.html). This scam operation, aka "pawn shop," had the nerve to offer me $10 for it (that, by the way, translates to 99% off retail price). I also attempted to sell a Night Owl Optics night vision device that is brand new with no defects whatsoever. This item retails between $185-$250. What do you think this place offered for it? Right, $10 again. Coincidence? Or does everything you bring to them warrant a purchase price of $10? Needless to say, since I don't need to have the extra money, I declined their absurd prices to buy my items and returned home with every one of them. But, it's frightening to think how many people have been a victim of this place's desire to profit off of other people's unfortunate circumstances and desperation and they should be ashamed of themselves.
