I meant to write this review a year ago.... I have used Roadster twice in the last year. I bought a new Toyota Tacoma and my wife bought a new Honda CRV. I discovered Roadster (now BuySideAuto) through RealCarTips.com after Googling car buying advice. RealCarTips is a trusted step-by-step resource to negotiate new car prices with dealerships, so for them to recommend BuySideAuto is already a big plus. Once you narrow down the vehicle of your choice, go to BuySideAuto's website to get an immediate express price. Their web interface is very user friendly and I often find myself checking real car prices just out of curiosity, as no sign up is required and even when you sign up, they don't spam or push/annoy you. I was specifically interested in a 2018 white Honda Accord Hybrid Base, and wouldn't settle for any other colors, trims, or options. This hybrid model was just released in April 2018, and dealerships were barely getting any stock, but somehow BuySideAuto was able to secure one for me in mid-May 2018 at near dealership invoice price (which RealCarTips always tries to push you to reach), not the MSRP/sticker price! And to put that into perspective, my out-the-door (after taxes/fees) cost was almost the sticker price! When I tried searching all the local Bay Area Honda dealerships, no one would barely consider any haggling on the price because the vehicle was so new. I checked to see if there would be any new Honda holiday incentives because Memorial Day was coming up, but nope, no manufacturer rebates/discounts for hybrid models. I compared all the websites like TrueCar, Edmunds, Kelley Blue Book, Carjojo, Cars, and Consumer Reports for real-time quotes, but none offered any real deals, other than like only $500 off. I bought my last car through TrueCar in 2012 but their pricing has gone downhill and isn't as competitive as when that company first started. I finally reached out to BuySideAuto (Kim) and she mentioned that the longer I wait and the closer it gets to the holidays, that specific model (color and trim) would likely sell out and I may have to wait for dealerships to re-stock. I jumped on it, filled out some online forms on Thursday afternoon, and after a few calls and emails, Kim somehow secured the deal and I was in my brand new car the next day on Friday at noon! She was very detailed in her responses, kept me up-to-date throughout the entire buying process with the dealership, and was very transparent about the pricing and how they were able to secure a good deal. Chris delivered the car to my work (but you can get it delivered to your home or elsewhere) and just like at the dealership, he went through the car-specific features and walkthroughs, along with signing and explaining the finance paperwork. The advantage of the delivery service is not only for convenience, but so you don't have to sit through any last-minute dealer negotiations (like options, packages, warranty, etc.). BuySide Auto (Roadster) is amazing! When I first heard about this company, I was skeptical. The idea of a concierge service finding the best deal for me and delivering the car to my home was appealing, but how would I know they really got me the best price? And would filling out forms online really be better than filling them out at a dealership? Well, I did my research, and BuySide Auto was clearly the best choice. 1 - Price. The deal they got me was $2300 cheaper than what my local dealerships offered me originally. After some negotiation, the dealership came down significantly but they still couldn't match the deal BuySide Auto found, leaving a gap of $700. This means I saved money even after BuySide Auto's fee and delivery charge. 2 - Customer service. OMG, this was the best car experience imaginable. Since BuySide Auto charges a flat fee for their service, their incentives are completely aligned with yours: they want to get you the car you want at the best possible price. As soon as I reached out, Kim emailed back and also spoke to me on the phone. Unlike dealerships, which often don't discuss numbers by email and force you to come in person, Kim was willing to correspond entirely via email. She was fast and patiently answered all of my questions. When I said I wanted to hold off a few weeks until my current lease was up before moving ahead, she didn't pressure me and waited for me to get back in touch. She was also able to get me the exact color I wanted at the lowest price point by having two dealers make a trade. 3 - Transparency. I created my own Excel spreadsheet to calculate capitalized cost and monthly payments. Right from the start--and long before I gave out any personal info or paid money--Kim provided me with accurate info and even shared screenshots of how she was calculating monthly payments on her end. Not only did she tell me what the lowest money factors were from Honda (before the dealerships increase them) but she also gave me the new ones the same day they came out (right after Labor Day). When I asked how a dealership can make money leasing me a car at Honda's lowest price, she was able to provide context: large dealerships can afford to sell some cars without a profit because later on they get a bonus from Honda for selling a certain number of cars. BuySide Auto has relationships with many dealers, including some of these big ones, and this enables them to get their clients great prices. 4 - Convenience and speed. Filling out the online forms literally took just a few minutes and I did it all on my iPhone! When they delivered my car to my home, it took only another 10 minutes to sign all of the forms (mostly standard stuff directly from Honda). Super fast and easy. Hands down. The easiest way to buy a car. Had a few calls with Chris, sent a few emails and the car was delivered to me at work on a Monday all for $295. The things you really should know before reaching out to Chris and his team: 1) Know exactly what car you want and exactly which features you want 2) Know what you're willing to pay for this. (And do some research beforehand to find out what others paid.) Car buying is hard and Roadster helps for a few reasons: 1) The car you want may "not be in stock" and you have to pick a different car (with a higher price.) -- Chris's team can search the database of available cars in CA/Bay Area and let you know what's really available. 2) Hidden fees up the whazoo. Like literally no transparency until the contract is in front of you... and at that point you don't have a way to compare whether these fees are reasonable or not. Roadster eliminates all this by giving you a "What you see is what you get" price (encompasses all the taxes and fees). But don't be afraid to do your own math with them. Cross checking is always good. 3) Even if you negotiate your own price with a dealer, they'll likely add it all back in administrative fees in the contract. So now you're still paying what you would anyway. 4) Fake pressure. "This deal ends tomorrow." -- none of this when you work with a broker! 5) Convenience. The only time I spent at the dealership was test driving to decide which car I wanted. Then the car was magically delivered to me (with minimal miles!!) at work. This is a seriously smart model. Fantastic service. Found me the exact car I wanted after I provided a very detailed spec. The team at Roadster had to look across the state and facilitate a transfer from another area. They also got me a great deal on my BMW trade in. It was 20% better than offers I received from the dealers and I avoided the hassle of dealing with unknown people on craigslist. The lease rate on my new car was lower than i could get direct with a dealer. My concierge, Levon, was awesome to deal with and put up with my incessant emails and questions. He delivered the new car to me on time to our house, walked me through how to use all of the cool new technology, he brought me a check for the trade-in and he drove our old car away. I was skeptical but all the reviews are accurate. Due to some bad health news about a dear friend I was in the Seattle area while my old BMW, near death, resided in my garage. Before I left town I picked the model and color Prius and then with phone calls and emails with Chris Gross (while in Seattle) the deal was struck. I traveled home on a Sunday and Chris delivered the exact Prius I wanted on Monday afternoon. Then, he offered to take care of the old BMW (I was planning to donate to charity just to be rid of it.) I liked the reviews I saw and tried them out - sorta. First I drove there, nearby to me. 9:30 in the morning, their PAlto office looked nice from the outside but no one there. When I got home I called their phone number, and reached no one but a canned response, no one to dial to, nothing except the ability to leave a message, which I did with my phone number. That was a week ago -and I have never heard from these people. We have a new car in mind but will need to go elsewhere. Can't tell whether they're really in business. read more
