We visited this restaurant early evening on a Saturday. The parking lot was pretty empty and the building looked a little run down. We considered going somewhere else, but we were glad we decided to go inside. The restaurant was large and clean on the inside. You order at the counter and they cut your meat to order. We both got plates, assuming that the weight listed would be the total, but it was for each meat. We tried the turkey, sausage, jalapeño sausage, chicken, and pork ribs. For sides, we got beans, potato salad, mac and cheese, and green beans. The portions for the sides could have been bigger, but everything tasted amazing. To say I'm underwhelmed is a harsh statement and I'm so sorry. I hope that with this review you can consider this constructive feedback and consider making some positive changes with your establishment in the future. I have given this place a chance. Truly. Four times to be exact. However, each time has just gotten more disappointing. I know there are not many BBQ joints in Kerrville, TX however, I would rather go to Bills BBQ to strictly make a point. The rest of this review is directed directly to the Buzzies management and operations. Pricing: I know we are in an unannounced recession and we are all trying to pay our bills but this was just ridiculous. I have never paid so much for such a small portion of food for a family of 6! Brisket, sausage, yes I know... most expensive. However, please don't send a 8oz (nearly a spoonful each) and think that feeds a family of six. If you can't provide an average serving of 4-5oz a side per person (Google it), then you are either false marketing and/or overpricing your customers because you can. I'm not okay with that and I know many others aren't. Service: Please work on it. Your unfriendly and unprofessional. If you want to keep your doors open, try a new greeting... not "hey what do you need". Simply rude and ungrateful. Especially when you live in a small town with a lack of competition. Your food may be good but your attitude sucks. Twice we have ordered to-go and each time they have forgotten pickles and onions. Come on y'all. Please get a system in place where your customers don't have to drive back just for basic essentials/condiments. For $100, please provide $100 service. I'm giving it 2 stars only because the BBQ was okay. Was expecting way better brisket for that price. Dry as can be. See for yourself in the picture. First time to purchase . Ordered for take out. Purchased a 1/2 # sliced brisket, link of jalapeno sausage, five ribs, 1/2 pint of slaw & 1/2 pint potato salad. This order was small to try & see if we liked the bbq. Brisket was dry & tough. Sausage good, but the casing was very, very tough. Hard to cut with a sharp knife. Ribs just ok. None of the meat tasted very smokey. Neither of us liked the slaw, very little dressing & if you like lots of mustard & a few dill pickle pieces the potato salad will be perfect for a big mustard lover. Our taste we did not like either salad. The bbq sauce was very good, mainly because it wasn't sweet. Obviously there are numerous people that like the bbq & sides or they would not be in business. Talk about a total letdown. I had heard really good things about their BBQ. This was a total waste of time and money ($55.00). We ordered a pound of moist brisket, a pound of ribs, one sausage link and a quarter pound of turkey. The brisket was tough, chewy and tasteless. We probably tried to eat a single each, but it was so bad we couldn't. The ribs weren't as bad as the brisket, we probably found a rib a piece that was eatable. The sausage was fair, but it had a weird taste to it. The turkey was probably the best thing we had there. We ate the whole quarter pound of it. All in all, we probably threw away a couple of pounds of so called BBQ. We will never go back there again. It was bad, bad, bad. read more

I had high expectations prior to dining at Buzzie's Bar-BQ since I found out it's been on television & on Texas Monthly. I did like the nicely spacious dining area with an upgraded country motif. The order at the counter, cafeteria style is typical of a BBQ restaurant. The staff provided attentive courteous service . The self service condiment station, tea canisters & bread box, made it convenient to fix up my lunch plate. I ordered the 1/4 chicken, white meat with brisket. The selections of sides was very limited. I got the potato salad & beans since the coleslaw appeared to be overly drench in mayonnaise. I had iced tea with my two meat combo plate & realized the price was slightly above average. $17 for a two meat combo with two sides & drink in Kerrville is a little steep! The quality & taste of the brisket & chicken was good, but not overly impressed. I didn't like the potato salad since it lacked a scratch made taste. The beans I did like & helped balance the over all taste of my meal. One other thing that distinguishes a BBQ restaurant from the others, is the sauce. I felt the BBQ sauce was a little watered down & could use more texture. Or perhaps, more than one sauce should be offered?! I maybe should have ordered the salad bar with BBQ chicken?? Regardless, my first dining experience at Buzzie's was still fairly good, with room for improvement on value & quality of the side dishes. I've had many good, very food & excellent dining experiences at BBQ restaurants in the past. I am hoping to have a better dining experience at Buzzie's next time?! read more

I guess by seeing other reviews you would think the food would be good but l did not have a good experience when I tried it a couple of years ago the meat had obviously been cooked and sitting in warmers and was very dry. Decided to give it another try with the exact same result. The chicken, pork and sausage were extremely dry and tough. Strike 2. Unfortunately they are out. WOW!!! When in Rome... We didn't want to just try a usual chain location, so we used yelp to find us the best barbecue. The meat was so tender & juicy, the coleslaw was perfect, and the entire place was well kept up. So don't let the outside low key appearance fool you! When I went, the parking lot was full and I had to park in the overflow lot. Once I got inside, I was shocked to see the dining room empty. Like the brisket the best and the sausage the least. The locals always recommend this place over the others but I think next time I will compare. Still, good basic bbq in large portions. We stopped in during January for a late lunch. It was our first time. I had never even noticed the restaurant before as it is very nondescript from the exterior. However, the interior was warm and inviting; spacious and nicely decorated. The girl at the counter greeted us courteously and explained the menu well. We ordered the meal for 8. Although not the best BBQ I have had, it was fine. The meat was tasty and tender; although I felt the chicken had an odd texture...almost pulverized, though it didn't look that way. The beans were a bit watery. I did like the condiment counter though. Perhaps some country music would give a more relaxing feel. What I was concerned about was the enormous amount of styrofoam that was used. The plates were styrofoam; the drinking cups were styrofoam; the side dishes and sauce came in styrofoam; the take-home container was styrofoam. What would be a pleasant change to all this non-biodegradable trash would be reusable metal plates (that would give a more authentic feel to the meal); reusable plastic drinking cups; and maybe ceramic crocks of the sides...and if you needed a take out then I guess styrofoam would be fine for that small amount. It would maybe create more dishwashing, but our next few generations would be able to live and continue to enjoy BBQ without being surrounded by large amounts of waste. read more

Facility looked clean and maintained social distancing between tables of the parties that were eating in. The brisket was tasty and tender. The ribs were meaty and tender. 12/16/12 11:00am - Coming home through Kerrville and made a stop at another 2008 Texas Monthly top fifty joint. There was lots of commotion getting ready for an evening celebration. Buzzie's was going to be featured on Pitmasters on the cable channel American Destinations. I got to meet Buzzie himself and this man knows his 'cue. I scored Buzzie's an 81 out of 100. This is Regional Texas Barbecue. Smoke: Real pit barbecue smoked with oak. Buzzie knows wood. He selects and cuts his own Oak. Brisket: Good. A little disappointed with brisket, I may have showed up too early (they unlocked the door for me) and on the wrong day. It only had 1/8in smoke ring and rich black bark. Brisket was tough of tender and needed a knife to cut. Great full smoke flavor, nice rub, and bark had a nice tab of smokey bitterness. Being the first customer of the day I got a burnt end, Bonus! No sauce needed but a toothpick definitely. Ribs: Good. Once again I may have showed up too early and on the wrong day. Ribs were a little tough. Bite revealed a hard crust and tearing and bone was little dirty. Overall flavor enhanced by a rub and full smoke. No sauce needed. Sausage: Excellent. Special made in Flatonia for Buzzie. A course ground pork sausage with great spice flavor. Bacon is used instead of fat so they were lean and little grease. The overall flavor was very good with nice spice and of course BACON! The after taste was mild but there. No sauce needed. Sauce: Great. A thin fresh tomato vinegar based sauce with big onion flavor. Yummy. Overall flavor was great just by itself but did little to enhance the meats and kind of masked the great flavors. read more

Stopped here for lunch driving home from West Texas to Houston. We were going to eat at Lum's in Junction, but we were ahead of schedule and got to Junction about 45 minutes before Lum's opened, so we kept on driving until Kerrville and looked around for barbecue. Somewhere we read this was the best in town. Buzzie was there running things, you could tell he was the owner, and he was small town friendly. The smokehouse smelled great, and when we walked in we knew we were in a down-home small town barbecue joint. Wife had a 1/4 chopped brisket sandwich, I went for a 1/2 pound sliced brisket sandwich. Hers cost $10 or so, mine cost about $13. Their sauce is a vinegar-based version, not bad but I wouldn't use much of it. Her sandwich was good, everything you would expect in a chopped beef sandwich. Mine being sliced, I could inspect and critique the brisket. It was slightly smoky, not overly so. It had the pink smoke ring you look for. My sandwich had slices from both the moist end and the dry end so I could taste both. I give the brisket there a solid B. I would have liked more smoke, to be honest. Even though there was moist end slices on the sandwich, it "needed" a bit of sauce for moisture, which disappointed me. Overall it was better than what you'd normally find in Houston, but not up to Luling or Lockhart quality stuff. In my humble opinion. Good place. Friendly as hell. read more

Very over rated. The brisket tasted like it was cooked in an oven, and so did the ribs. For "oven cooked", the flavor was OK. Hopefully, it was just a bad day. I would never make another special trip to eat at Buzzies. Staff was both friendly and helpful. We even had a great conversation about Dublin Dr. Pepper. If we didn't have the BBQ trail east of I 35, this might be better than average. So I would say this place is a little better than Bill Miller's in San Antonio. read more

The cool thing about BBQ joints that smoke meats on-site is that your clothes have that delicious smell for the rest of the day! We tried a bit of everything today (except the ribs). We had brisket, chopped beef, two kinds of sausage, cole slaw, beans and potato salad. Buzzie's is best known for their brisket, so we were a bit disappointed that it was a little dry and lacked much of a smoke ring although the flavor was good. All of our food had great flavor and servings are quite large. Buzzie's sauce is thicker and more tomatoey than most Texas BBQ sauce and is more like the Kansas City style sauce that I grew up with. We ordered ribs and brisket and the ribs were amazingly juicy and tender and so was the brisket. I loved the potato salad and coleslaw it was creamy and fresh! I was invited to this place so it wasn't my choice to go there but this was a great present I got. It's a nice place, large and they will take care of all your BBQ needs. We took to go as we didn't want to eat there but staying there seems to be a great option too. Oh yes we came from the HEB and that's why we didn't want to stay. They know everything about the BBQ and they do that for a long time. If you need something extra they will do it our way as good as they can. I'm writing this as someone who's only eaten here once. I asked some locals where I could find some BBQ and they sent me here. It's located near downtown Kerrville, Texas in a semi-industrial area. I almost passed it but I knew I was close because I could smell it. I ordered the Wednesday special rib plate. This is a dry rub rib with the sauce on the side. The sauce was sweet and tangy and really great. The ribs were so good I gnawed them clean. They also offer cobbler and pecan pie. The pie was excellent with less pecans and more custard. This is a great family restaurant and they also serve wine and beer. read more
