    The cover burger

What a great burger! I had the burger they are known for with everything except the mayo and added bacon. It was the bomb, so good. We had fries and fresh onion rings. Super great burger experience while waiting for the bats to come out at the park. I would definitely go back.

Over-cooked greasy fried and tasteless fried shrimp

Great atmosphere tucked off the beaten path, what used to feel like a hidden gem, but unfortunately it seems to have declined recently. The fries and onion rings were overcooked and had a taste of old oil, likely in need of being changed. The fries were also greasy, suggesting the oil temperature may have been too low. The fries seemed like standard frozen fare. The burger was decent, but not worth anywhere near $19 on its own. The shrimp should honestly be removed from the menu, the batter was bland with little to no flavor, and the cocktail sauce tasted more like plain ketchup. Service was noticeably slow, especially for a Sunday that wasn't very busy. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this place, as there are many better options in the area.

A decadent and delish dive next to the state park. We went to see the giant bat feeding and found this little spot with live music blasting. We came late because the bats, but they are open late on Friday and Saturday for the summer. Lucky us. The fried mushrooms were plentiful and double fried. Their flavorful batter is a standout. I could not believe how tender the sliced ribeye was on their sandwich special. It was mouth waters and messy in the best way. And finally, their cheeseburger, just their standard one, not the Cover Burger, was amazing. A perfect balance of umami, tart pickle, and fresh buns. I can still taste it now. Next time we come see the Batnado at Old Tunnel Park, we will definitely stop by the cafe again.

Great food, great people, great atmosphere. Would highly recommend the trip, and very accommodating of our group. Thank you Alamo spring cafe for hosting the San Antonio chapter of the Cadillac V-Club.

Very cute eclectic eatery with quality grade ingredients & very close to our cabin. The reason for 4 stars vs 5 is because the fries are sub par & our young waitress forgot about us on the patio which sometimes tends to happen. We ordered the portobello mushroom sandwich on pumpernickel rye bread & I added a slice of Monterey cheese & it had just the right amount of carmalized onions. Hubs got an ole fashioned hamburger & the meat patty was thick of good quality & flavored perfectly. We also ordered the frings (onion rings/fries) the o rings were fantastic but the fries were slightly below average as the seemed both overcooked & not fresh like the rings. When we put in our order, we also told our waitress, Indeara that we would like the fried pb&j to go. Once we were done with our meal we waiting about 15 minutes for her to come out & offer us boxes but my husband needed up having to go inside & she then came out with boxes & I asked her if the dessert was ready to take & she said, "I forgot" we said okay, it happens, paid out tab still left her a decent tip. Highly recommend their avocado ranch which has actual chunks of avocado which does change the taste of the ranch. I'm already craving that mushroom sandwich again- left a lasting linger on my taste buds!

Frings - some of the fries and onion rings were gone! It was served hot and fresh from the fryer! Delicious!

First of all, this burger place was closed for a few months and pretty much gave up on seeing this place ever open again. However, a minor miracle happened - a few dedicated people wanted to get this place reopened. A few weeks ago, they had a soft opening and from what I saw today, it seems like they have ironed out most of the kinks. On a Saturday afternoon, we decided to eat here after walking around the Trade Days in Fredericksburg. The last time we were here was the pre-pandemic March 2020. I'm so glad they are back in business. As for the food, the burgers are still huge and delicious. They have a menu item called Frings, half onion rings and half French fries. It can feed 2 people. Personally, the burger was huge and could barely finish it but I soldiered on. Now, a couple of hours later, I feel very full. No dinner tonight for me. As for the service and ambiance, their servers are very young - like teenagers - enthusiastic and energetic, and willing to get your orders correctly. The place seems brighter and cleaner than our last visit. The tables are new or at least have new tops. Their liquor license is pending so there's no beer sales yet. Overall, I'm definitely coming back here. We'd like for them to stay in business for as long as possible. They deserve to be here and I really feel that if they get enough local and tourist support, they will be in business for a long time.

Alamo Springs Cafe is amazing. Both the onion rings and frence fries were cooked to perfection. The hamburgers had a wonderful flavor and were HUGE. The chili was the best i ha e had in a very long time. If you leave there hungry, you didn't go to the right place!

Always a fun place to stop and grab one of their fabulous burgers, huge onion rings, and icy cold beer. Beautiful drive thru the Hill Country to get to the cafe. The service is always friendly Fun bunch of servers. Certain times, they have live music. Give 'em a try!!

Great burgers, fried pickles & onion rings. Evening was a little chilly so we ate inside but the outside seating area looked inviting maybe next time. Employees were friendly and customer service was excellent.

We ate here and really enjoyed the food -- big portions, good drinks and a very relaxed atmosphere. Between eating, hanging out, seeing the animals and exploring the property, there was plenty to keep us entertained. We even ended up making friends with the sweetest little cat inside, which became one of those random funny memories from the trip. The live music/dance hall atmosphere and all the old Texas décor give the place a ton of character. It's definitely not some polished chain restaurant, and that's exactly what makes it fun. We also stayed in one of the Bankersmith suites, which made the experience even better. The room had a really cool rustic Western style with wood walls, vintage furniture, Texas artwork and a small living/kitchen area. Being able to enjoy the area and then stay right there instead of driving back into town was a huge plus. We paired our Bankersmith stay with a visit to nearby Grapetown Vineyard & Farm and one of their animal experiences, so the whole thing made for a really memorable Hill Country getaway. Good food, animals, music, drinks, a unique place to stay and a ton of Texas character. We took an absurd number of pictures and had a great time. Definitely somewhere we'd come back to.

ChatGPT raved about Sunset Grill, so we hopped in the car and zoomed down. Upon arriving, we walked into the cramped restaurant, and we were greeted by a nice hostess. She put our name on a list, and we had a brief 5-10 minute wait before we were seated. We were handed menus and left to peruse the menu. After a brief wait, we were greeted by our waiter and he took our drinks. In good time the waiter was back with drinks and he took our order. I ordered a bacon and cheese omelette. It came with potatoes and toast. The wife ordered the plate with eggs over easy, crispy bacon, and potatoes. The wife and I sat and had a nice visit. We should not have drank our drinks so fast, as they stayed empty the entire time we visited. Our waiter not once made eye contact so we could get a refill either. After an average wait time, our food came. Our waiter noticed the drinks and then refilled them. My omelette was undercooked and watery, the cheese was not melted, and the bacon was chewy. Furthermore, the toast was also very dry. I would have gotten butter to put on them, but the waiter never came back to check on us. The wife's eggs were cooked over hard, the bacon was rubbery, and very underwhelming. Our drinks went empty and we never got refills, again. We paid the bill and went shopping. I was glad to get out of there. I had high hopes for this place based on the reviews, but I think they missed the mark here. ChatGPT did me dirty on this one. I don't know if they just were having a bad day, or what the deal was, but this was a one and done for me. I cannot say I recommend this one. I was very disappointed.

I deduced to try the French Benedict which was two poached eggs on top of a croissant with ham and Swiss Cheese with their homemade Hollandaise sauce. It came with the cubed home fries and fresh fruit. The eggs were prepared well and the Hollandaise sauce was very flavorful - a great choice. While the cubed home fries didn't have anything that made them 'special' they were prepared perfectly with a bit of crispiness on the outside and soft inside. The flavor was good. The fresh fruit consisted of grapes, blueberries, cantaloupe and pineapple - all of which was fresh and flavorful. We also tried the Cochinita Pibil which was the corn tortillas filled with pork that was topped with purple cabbage and slivered carrots and their own sauce. The sauce was very good. The pork was super tender and moist. It had a great flavor but there was a hint of a flavor that we just couldn't place - almost apple-like but not quite. At any rate is was good although they could ease off on the cabbage - there was a lot of it. The refried beans that it came with were very flavorful and clearly homemade. The rice was - well, it was rice; moist but nothing to write home about. We had Kristen as our server, she was so attentive and sweet. To start we tried the sweet cornbread, lavender mint lemonade, and regular lemonade. The lavender mint lemonade was one of the best drinks I've had in a while. For our meals he had the BLTA with fries and I had the avocado and lime salad with tri tip steak. Absolutely stellar food, quality ingredients and great flavors. We had leftovers for sure, lol, something to eat on the drive back to DFW the next day. For dinner, we sat outside and had Jess as our server. She was also really nice, she had quite a few tables and still managed to give us plenty of attention. We had carnitas nachos and the ground beef soup. The carnitas nachos are... unnecessarily large. lol Luckily the soup bowl was very small so I was able to help the boyfriend with some nachos. But my small effort was not enough and he tapped out of the nachos at the halfway mark. Highly recommend the nachos if you have four friends with you. =D This was a great restaurant with a lovely outdoor space. Vibe is euro-bistro and the staff is perfectly attentive. Prices are high, but honestly aligned to the quality of the food, at least the dishes we had were worth the prices. Food: Buttermilk Fried Chicken, with Onion/Bacon flash fried collard greens, whipped potatoes and house gravy and Jalapeno Cornbread for $32 Reuben on Marble Rye for $24 16oz Stella Artois for $10 We agreed that the fried chicken (5/5) was the best we could remember having. Whipped potatoes (5/5) were light, fluffy and perfect taste/texture. The gravy was like brown butter (5/5). The collard greens (5/5) were flash fried and if you've never had them like this, it's like eating collard green potato chips. Cornbread (3/4) was a bit too delicate and sweet for our taste. You couldn't pick it up without it falling apart. The Ruben (3/5). My wife loves a good Ruben sandwich. This one had the makings of a good one, but they use a Thousand Island sauce (too much of it) on the sandwich, and it hides the flavor of the meat. Next time we would ask for the sandwich without the TI sauce, see if that improves the rating. The sandwich came with house made potato chips (5/5), a small house salad with vinaigrette (5/5) and a large, pickled cucumber. I know, that's a pickle, but these are cucumbers that have gone maybe a third of the way through the process, so the cucumber taste is really prevalent. Lastly, we had the Creme Brulé (3/5) for dessert. It was nice, but the custard was coffee and caramel flavored, and we prefer the standard custard look and flavor. The caramel should come from the top layer, not the custard. The top layer was a bit too thick as well. We liked it, just didn't love it. Overall, quality food, service and vibe with prices that are aligned to more special occasions than everyday eating out. We'll be back to try the Monday Crawfish Etoufee and the Tuesday Duck Confit daily specials...look too good to pass up.
