This place was absolutely delicious. Just googled a lunch spot on my way out of Fredericksburg and this came up. Saw a lot of bragging about the burger and decided to challenge that lol we parked and were walking up to the door and were immediately greeted. Even opened the door for us. We were asked if it was our first time and when we said yes we got the run down on the specials and how the drinks work. Everyone was super nice and attentive. Our waiter was on point. We felt so welcome. I got a cheeseburger double, my son got a hamburger and his mom got a ribeye sandwich they had on special. We all loved every bite. And the basket of hand cut fries topped it off. This food was delicious. So worth the trip. It stayed busy while we were there. And I see why. The atmosphere was very welcoming because the staff was. They aren't fast and as folks trickled in we watched some folks get way too upset at the wait, but good food takes some time. The burger is very good. I had the Cover Burger (featured on the cover of TX Monthly) and added a patty, which they had no issue with, and they even suggested I try their burger challenge if I was REALLY hungry. Would leave zero stars but 1 is required, arrived and was greeted by great young man, we got our drinks and went out to the patio to order, waited about 15 minutes before what we thought was our waitress passed us right up and started helping another group that had just arrived, finally the youn man who greeted us came out to see if we had been waited on, told him no and he finally got us a waiter who took our order, we are now 25 minutes in. We ordered chips and queso and were brought chips and salsa, knew at this point dinner was not going to be enjoyable, finally received our queso with a small basket of chips, when we asked for more chips so we could finish our queso, the waitress, seemed to have no clue as to what was going on and kept trying to take or queso, when I asked about our burgers that had been ordered the waitress said it would be about an hour before they were ready Not sure what takes almost 2 hours to cook 2 hamburgers and some fries but at this point we were done and walked out, this place was not even busy and was so unorganized they could not even take care of a handful of customers. Great atmosphere tucked off the beaten path, what used to feel like a hidden gem, but unfortunately it seems to have declined recently. The fries and onion rings were overcooked and had a taste of old oil, likely in need of being changed. The fries were also greasy, suggesting the oil temperature may have been too low. The fries seemed like standard frozen fare. The burger was decent, but not worth anywhere near $19 on its own. The shrimp should honestly be removed from the menu, the batter was bland with little to no flavor, and the cocktail sauce tasted more like plain ketchup. Service was noticeably slow, especially for a Sunday that wasn't very busy. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this place, as there are many better options in the area. read more

A decadent and delish dive next to the state park. We went to see the giant bat feeding and found this little spot with live music blasting. We came late because the bats, but they are open late on Friday and Saturday for the summer. Lucky us. The fried mushrooms were plentiful and double fried. Their flavorful batter is a standout. I could not believe how tender the sliced ribeye was on their sandwich special. It was mouth waters and messy in the best way. And finally, their cheeseburger, just their standard one, not the Cover Burger, was amazing. A perfect balance of umami, tart pickle, and fresh buns. I can still taste it now. So we accidentally walked straight into the kitchen when we arrived (oops, sorry chef ‍), but instead of kicking us out, a very kind human just redirected us into the dining room like it was part of the show. Honestly, 10/10 for the improv. The setup is fun--you order, then grab your own drink like you're at a friend's backyard BBQ, but the kind of friend who can actually cook. The kitchen is right there in full view, so while you wait, you get a free aromatherapy session of sizzling deliciousness. I went with the cheeseburger, and let me tell you: this burger isn't shy. Very cute eclectic eatery with quality grade ingredients & very close to our cabin. The reason for 4 stars vs 5 is because the fries are sub par & our young waitress forgot about us on the patio which sometimes tends to happen. We ordered the portobello mushroom sandwich on pumpernickel rye bread & I added a slice of Monterey cheese & it had just the right amount of carmalized onions. Hubs got an ole fashioned hamburger & the meat patty was thick of good quality & flavored perfectly. We also ordered the frings (onion rings/fries) the o rings were fantastic but the fries were slightly below average as the seemed both overcooked & not fresh like the rings. When we put in our order, we also told our waitress, Indeara that we would like the fried pb&j to go. Once we were done with our meal we waiting about 15 minutes for her to come out & offer us boxes but my husband needed up having to go inside & she then came out with boxes & I asked her if the dessert was ready to take & she said, "I forgot" we said okay, it happens, paid out tab still left her a decent tip. Highly recommend their avocado ranch which has actual chunks of avocado which does change the taste of the ranch. First of all, this burger place was closed for a few months and pretty much gave up on seeing this place ever open again. However, a minor miracle happened - a few dedicated people wanted to get this place reopened. A few weeks ago, they had a soft opening and from what I saw today, it seems like they have ironed out most of the kinks. On a Saturday afternoon, we decided to eat here after walking around the Trade Days in Fredericksburg. The last time we were here was the pre-pandemic March 2020. I'm so glad they are back in business. As for the food, the burgers are still huge and delicious. They have a menu item called Frings, half onion rings and half French fries. It can feed 2 people. Personally, the burger was huge and could barely finish it but I soldiered on. Now, a couple of hours later, I feel very full. No dinner tonight for me. As for the service and ambiance, their servers are very young - like teenagers - enthusiastic and energetic, and willing to get your orders correctly. The place seems brighter and cleaner than our last visit. The tables are new or at least have new tops. Their liquor license is pending so there's no beer sales yet. Overall, I'm definitely coming back here. We'd like for them to stay in business for as long as possible. They deserve to be here and I really feel that if they get enough local and tourist support, they will be in business for a long time. read more

I really want to like this place, so this is a difficult review to write. I've been here a dozen times since they reopened and early on the food and service was first rate. In the past 6 months, I've noticed a decline in food quality and customer service. Yesterday will be my last time eating here. I was okay paying their high prices, but no longer. My cover burger was soggy and my wife's sandwich was made incorrectly. I had to go to the kitchen to get it corrected. Our server told me the cook was new and still training. A lame excuse. When I complained at the end of the meal, I got, "oh sorry", a nervous laugh and a $40 check. No offer to make it right. For a place that charges premium prices for sub-par food, the is unacceptable. I don't have a problem paying their high prices if the food and service earn them. I will no longer recommend Alamo Springs Cafe and I will not be back. read more

So first of all the place is set in the middle of nowhere near a tunnel park. The place is a combination of inside and outside seating. The help is very friendly. Now the food. The Hamburgers( what they are supposed to be good at) are 8 Oz. Pattie, pretty tasty but they are a bit greasy. The place is laid back with a grizzly looking cook cooking away. You just walk inside to get your drinks then hang out and order. Like I said the burgers are very good. The onion rings well not really good. The batter is flat in taste. Real good onion rings should have a batter that really excites the buds with onion flavor, these do not. On March 1st Texas Independence Day was celebrated at Luckenbach giving us the perfect opportunity to enjoy the food at Alamo Springs Cafe on the way there. WOW!! Some of the best we've ever eaten! She ordered a BLT and it had the most bacon either of us had ever seen on a sandwich and it was perfectly cooked to "crunchy". I had the 1/2# marinated pork tenderloin sandwich, the most flavorful and tender I've ever been served. We ordered the Frings so as to try the onion rings and fries. The fries were exceptionally good and the onion rings even better. Next time we may skip those good fries. All drinks were self-serve and free! I've NEVER seen that anywhere! They claim to have Texas's best burger and I'd believe it from the orders that passed by us. Service was outstanding. The prices only seemed high until you saw what you got. Because there was no charge for drinks the total bill was lower than I've paid to get less at other places. I see some trips to Fredericksburg in our future if only to eat here again! read more

We had cheeseburgers, goat cheese burger, roasted garlic app with goat cheese/crostini, which came out well after the burgers arrived. We had the onion ring/french fry combo basket.
