I can't believe I haven't done a yelp review of my favorite local coffee shop. I thought I was coming to update my review. Well ByGood Coffee shop is a great hidden jewel in the area. They are located directly across from Brookstown Inn within a quaint shopping center. They have parking on front and the shop is huge. There is plenty of comfortable seating inside such as couches, bar top tables, counter seating, tabletops & a covered patio. They offer baked goods, pastries, waffles, smoothies, matcha, and coffee/espresso. Ms. Abby & her staff are kind and know the regulars. They roast their coffee beans on site and also sell bags of coffee (beans & ground). They have creative drinks and give back to the community. I met with community leaders regularly at this shop and many had never been before and were happy to revisit. My favorite drinks are anything mocha and they never disappoint. I love this quaint coffee shop located near the historic Brookstone Inn in Downtown Winston Salem. It is also within walking distance of Old Salem. They have a variety of Hot & Iced drinks. I usually go for an Iced Chai Latte, today I got the Cinnamon Honey. All are made fresh to order. Drinks are refreshing and you can enjoy it there in a laid back cozy environment. You truly feel as if you were in your living room or in your enclosed porch at home. You can just relax, read, or catch up on work. The owners and their staff are very welcoming and friendly. The owners here are so nice!! My latte gets a 8.5/10, the syrup is homemade and delicious, I should have gotten a tad less sweet (my fault not the barista). This is our morning go to spot. This is an awesome little spot to meet and have outstanding coffee. It's small with a surprisingly array of seating. The coffee is roasted and ground in house and served fresh everyday! I highly recommend this place to be your new coffee spot. As soon as you open the doors to Bygood Coffee you can smell the beautiful aroma of the fresh roasted coffee beans as Darryl roasts them right there in the shop! there is always very lively coffee shop appropriate music playing in the background and beautiful art on the walls. There is Ample seating at small tables and there are larger tables in the back and there are also 2 comfy upholstered chairs with a table between them for a true at home feel while you sip your delicious cup of Joe. Abbey makes 99% of the pastries herself and I have to tell you they are all delicious! From her dark chocolate Energy bites to her cheese apple and cherry danishes all of her pastries are always fresh with the most flavor ever! She uses high-quality ingredients and you can tell as soon as you bite into any of them! her muffins which include blueberry, cranberry- orange, and chocolate, are also yummy! She has several different pound and layer cakes as well. Let's talk about the Coffee now... She makes all of the flavored syrup right there in house and each of them is delectable! I usually get my go to: Cafe mocha with three shakes of cinnamon powder made with oat milk. Sometimes I get it hot and sometimes iced but either way I get it It is always rich and flavorful! We visited By Good Coffee this weekend for a networking event, and it was such a great experience. The coffee was hand-ground and absolutely delicious--you can really taste the quality and care in every cup. The service and atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and perfect for conversation and connection. They also served some amazing baked goods, including the most delicious muffins I've had in a long time. Excellent! I was impressed by the choices of flavoring combos and settled on a Sand Dollar latte. Luckily, they have almond or oatmilk as creamer substitutes. Pleasant areas to sit indoors and outdoors, some covered, some not. I got an iced pistachio (house-made syrup) latte with vanilla cold foam and it was SO good. The espresso was not overpowered by the syrup and tasted very good. Perfectly nutty, sweet, and creamy. I had a hard time finding the entrance to this place, but it's right through a little walkway between some stores. I was craving coffee to get my workday started, and was hoping this would be a nice place to log on for a couple of hours. They had a lot of seating space, but it was very dark and not the best work vibe. On to the coffee, they have such a huge selection of coffee syrups and so many flavors to choose from. I couldn't believe that they had about 10 seasonal items (fall and winter). I got a warm autumn leaves coffee with oat milk and it was delicious. I never thought to add cayenne to a sweet coffee like that, but it added such a nice balance. My coffee was served up extremely quickly and the staff was so kind. You could tell by the foot traffic, that there are a lot of regulars that come here. I consider that a great sign of a good coffee shop. read more

After a walk on a recent brisk morning at Salem Lake, we stopped in this warm, locally and woman-owned business. Abby, the owner, was very welcoming and gladly shared a bit of her interesting story and how the coffee shop started. After asking for her recommendations, we ordered a couple lattes, two Jamaican pies, and a chocolate chunk chip cookie. I enjoyed the curried shrimp Jamaican pie that contained the right amount of heat and not too few shrimp (which is usually a problem). My Hot Stuff latte was sufficiently hot to get rid of my chill. The cayenne was a nice add to the normal mocha flavor. The chocolate chip cookie was okay - good and crunchy. Plenty of seating was available on this morning. We sat in a room filled with local artists' work for sale that were hung on the walls. The roasting occurs indoors just inside the front entrance and they sell their bags of roasted coffee along with custom teas. After enjoying our food and drink (and warming up), I thought I'd really like to stop by again if ever in the area, say hi to Abby, and order another Hot Stuff and Jamaican curry shrimp pie. read more

Little spot downtown. It didn't feel organized a lot of clutter but ample amount of seating for a meeting or quiet work space. We ordered a hot chocolate which was $6. Seemed a little like Starbucks pricing. Not sure if I'll go back as it just wasn't my vibe. read more

ByGood Coffee is AMAZING! They have the best fall menu I've ever seen. We tried two of their drinks - the Scarecrow and the Festive Fair. Highly recommend both of them. The Scarecrow is definitely the best cold brew I've had in a while, and the Festive Fair tasted like a liquor candy apple. Delicious. The staff was super friendly and welcoming. I had seen this little spot several times but had never gone in until today. I'm so glad I did! As soon as you walk in you can see the coffee roasting machines and you already can bet it will be some FRESH coffee! They also have a great selection available for sale of their fresh beans. This time around I ordered their red velvet gingerbread latte and I was completely blown away! I don't know how they got those flavors into a cup but they were there! It was perfectly velvety in texture with a lasting coffee taste. Personally would have liked a strong shot of coffee to cut through the cream more, but that's just my preference. The staff was lovely and worked diligently to make our delicious orders. And the ambiance is a reason to go on its own! Today was my first visit and I was blown away. The owners were extremely welcoming and friendly. It was one of the best customer experiences ever! The coffee was superb. They roast their own beans and also sell coffee by the pound (straight from the owners mouth). I tried the scone and was impressed. I really enjoy a quality scone from living in Germany and visiting numerous European countries. I like my scones a bit dryer, but the taste was excellent. In town visiting my old college roommate and she brought me to ByGood Coffee to pick up a good cup for the day. The owner Abby and her husband are extremely sweet. Customer service here is above and beyond and she took the time to explain to us the different blends of coffee and loose teas. She also let us smell a few variety of teas and they all smelled wonderful. Made my job of picking really hard. But I went with a cup of velvet berry champagne tea and the smell didn't do it justice. This was a great cup of tea. My friend enjoyed her coffee so much that she picked up a few bags to take home with her. The inside atmosphere has a laid back feel with an area to plug in your laptop to knock out some work or read a good book. So glad we stopped off here. read more

I don't even like coffee, but this place had a reputation for a yummy Belgium waffle so on a cold Sunday morning, my husband and I ventured out to give it a try. Walking in, you see the coffee roasting area just before getting to the counter where we were greeted by the super friendly owners. Darryl, the coffee roaster expert gave some suggestions and a wonderful little lesson on coffee roasting. My husband who loves coffee let Darryl choose for him and we was so happy with the choice! Darryl chose a medium roast pour over. My husband traditionally likes dark roast coffee but Darryl explained that dark roast is essentially burnt coffee beans. My husband wasn't sure he'd like it but he was very pleasantly surprised how delicious it was. He didn't even add cream(something he always does). I had a cup of Artisan hot chocolate. It was so good! Topped with their homemade whipped cream, it was the perfect warm drink for me. Our Belgium waffle was simply delicious! It was light and fluffy with a wonderful lightly crisp exterior. We ordered it with strawberries blueberries and whipped cream. ByGood coffee is located in a small corner plaza with small parking lot and plenty of street parking. They have tons of indoor and outdoor seating, and some outlets for those who like to study at cafes. Overall the interior is pretty nice and provides a nice vibe. Last time I was here was during the winter weekend, it was very crowded and not easy to study. This summer weekend, it was relatively empty around opening but I'm sure it'll get busier as the day progresses. I like that they have a permanent menu filled with smoothes and traditional coffee drinks and a seasonal rotating menu of special latte drinks and teas. We got the and dollar (hot) which had salted brown sugar, cold foam, and caramel drizzle and it was delicious. Very deep nutty flavor with sweetness. We also got the soul surfer which offered white mocha, lavender, and rose. It was very floral and almost fruity, comparable to fruity pebbles cereal milk which I enjoyed. I haven't tried heir baked goods but they have a variety of muffins and croissants on display. Customer service was also excellent, excited to come back! read more

What a wonderful find!! I'd been wanting to try ByGood for ages and we finally made it out. It's so lovely when we find a place that allows us to bring in our dog (she's well behaved, I promise!) and gives her a pup cup to enjoy, too. I had an excellent latte and my partner enjoyed his coffee. We ended up staying to also get a smoothie which was delicious. And I can't say enough about how friendly the staff were and I LOVE that the owner was back behind the coffee bar working right alongside their employees. I got the hot stuff , which is a latte with mocha, with cinnamon and cayenne. One of the Valentine's specials. Loved this warm cup of hotness! Has a little kick to it but not in a bad way. Spicy, warm, creamy, chocolaty perfect for a rainy Sunday . My friend got the soul chaser, also a Valentine's special latte with rose, lavender and white chocolate. She said it was yummy. They carry a bunch of sweet and savory treats, great looking cakes, was tempted but we were going to brunch so I didn't, but I'll be back to try one soon! Great friendly staff, clean and nicely decorated for the season of love! Great little find in Winston. Off the beaten path downtown. With parking! INTRO: A cafe on the outskirts of downtown that looks to be forgotten by most of the population living in downtown Winston-Salem but, in reality, is overrun by the locals early in the mornings. This establishment is a mom-and-pop shop, which the community supports, and the ambience reflects it. The menu is written on a whiteboard and is ever-changing. The coffee beans are roasted on-site to ensure the rich flavors are infused in their lattes. DRINK 1: Red Velvet and Gingerbread Latte ($5.50) - This latte definitely packs a punch. The burst of chocolatey and ginger flavors are balanced by the subtle sweetness that lingers in your mouth after every sip. 8/10 DRINK 2: Maple Bourbon Nutmeg Latte ($5.50) - Not a fan of this drink at all. I was unable to taste all three ingredients in the name of the latte. The drink was extremely underwhelming. I have recently decided to do a little tour of all the coffee shops in Winston. Based on reviews this was my next stop. Location: I do enjoy the downtown feel without all of the traffic. They Are in a really cute restored Brick shopping center and there was plenty of parking available Inside: I was immediately drawn to the world map and definitely noticed the wonderful coffee aroma. They had a very nice size coffee service station with with some food available. The menu is posted in clear sight and very easy to read with a lot of options. I thought the cute little lobby they had was it but this coffee shop actually extends back a bit with plenty of seating available and really neat decor. They also feature local artist and have some of the paintings available for sale. I think my other favorite feature was the coffee roasting station. I really love that they roast their own beans. Customer service: This has been my best Winston experience at a coffee shop by far! I was immediately greeted with a smile as well as a hello and after mentioning it was my 1st time they took pride explaining their menu and all of my options. I was asking them a little bit about the shop and the food and they seemed so very happy to assist me. Grub: I always go for the drip coffee when I try a coffee roaster because I like to taste it without all the Bells and whistles. Nothing can replace fresh roasted beans and their good effort of roasting in house does pay off in the coffee they produce. I enjoyed it. I tried the jerk chicken patty and wow!! I was not expecting to have the varieties of Jamaican patties but, this will definitely bring me back through the door outside of the awesome customer service. The Jamaican Patties are the unsung heroes here. I had a jerk chicken and a curry shrimp both of which made my mouth sing. The spices and flavors - to quote Babette from Gilmore girls: "pow! Color comin out of your yin yang!" Stopped in for coffee and their flavor game is strong there too. As a regular here, I love to bring my laptop to do work outside of the house occasionally, while enjoying a cup of Autumn Leaves latte and a Jamaican jerk or curry chicken patty. Everyone's got a version of a fall latte, but I've enjoyed this one the most to something like pumpkin spice, apple cider, or chai that I would typically order elsewhere. I'm enjoying it while it lasts! Otherwise, the Jamaican patties are here to stay and I'm thankful for that. I don't believe you can find these anywhere else in Winston and as someone who likes to have something a little more substantial for breakfast/brunch than pastries to enjoy with their coffee, it's nice to be able to grab one or two of these to start my day. With another 2 months left in my pregnancy, I know my growing baby enjoys the protein! Their fall menu is loaded with special drinks unique to ByGood and beyond coffee, you can enjoy tea and smoothies as well! Attached pics of said menu for reference. Not sure I can make it through the list before Fall's over, but I'm going to try! Beyond feeling good about supporting this black-owned business, you can also support local artists and students by enjoying the artwork hung throughout the space and purchasing them if you fancy it. This is in the former location of a coffee shop I had a love/hate relationship with and still get the old vibes from that spot a bit. I really wish the overall look and feel were more distinctly present as ByGood. I also wish there was more sound. It felt starkly quiet. The previous was notable when lingering at one of the tables inside. Beyond this my summer tea was amazing. I was told the sweetener is made in house and can be varied in dosage. Loved everything about this place! I'm originally from Long Island so it was great seeing the Long Island decoration and learning they are originally from there too! The inside is huge with several different areas to sit (as well as a few outside tables) and also an area up front where they actually roast their own coffee beans! There's a large menu as well as a specials board and a display of sweets up front. They told us that they either make the sweets in house or get them locally, which I love. I went with the red velvet latte special with almond milk and my husband got a regular coffee and we both loved what we got. We also split a Belgian waffle which I HIGHLY recommend! It takes about 7 mins to cook (which it was nice that they pointed this out when we ordered to make sure it would be okay) but it is well worth the short wait haha we got strawberries and their house made whipped cream. The waffle had the perfect crunch on the outside but doughy inside and then the whipped cream and strawberries on top added a fresh sweet flavor to it. The ladies behind the register were so informative and helpful. They told us that almost everything can be made hot or cold, they have several milk alternatives and a list of syrup flavors right at the register which was helpful (I do wish they had more than 1 sugar free flavor though).
