I was lucky enough to get a gift card here for the coloring service as a Christmas present. This place is a small, yet cozy salon that is full of conversation and laughter. The owner, Bridget was in charge of coloring and cutting my hair. I was still trying to decide if I wanted a red color or highlights. She was extremely knowledgeable and honest about what would last the longest, since I was looking to cover some grey hairs. Thus I decided to go for the highlights. I have been to many different salons over the course of the last ten years, but Bridget is by far the best! She was professional but friendly and so incredibly talented at both coloring and cutting. Bridget gave me the best cut and color I have ever had and I would love to call this place "my go to salon." Unfortunately, I live in Charlotte and will not be able to go back until July... huge bummer! If there was a way to transport Bridget and her team to Charlotte it would make my life so much easier! I went here after hearing all the hype about this salon. Sadly, I must say, I don't get it. I've had better hair cuts. I was charged $34 for a wash, cut, and dry. I said "cut off about 3 inches" since the ends were so bad, she somehow heard 2. The ends still felt ragedy. However, she at least listened when I said I rarely put styling products in my hair. Overall, I felt like it was an OK experience for a decent hair cut, nothing to write home about. read more

I am not one to go to the salon every other week. Heck, the last time I had a hair cut was over a year ago! This place though is something special. I have gone to B'yond Style a handful of times over the years, but I keep coming back. Last time I got my haircut I went to a place near my job on lunch, it didn't go as smoothly as any of my transactions at B'yond Style have gone. Parking is a bit rough as the shop is located opposite of St. Peter's Hospital. There is street metered parking. If you don't mind a little walk, you can park a few blocks down in a very safe neighborhood. All of the stylists are nice, friendly and listen to what you want. They offer opinions and options. The end result has always been incredible. I give the stylist full run, within reason, and my hair is always fabulous. Kid's cuts are good too. Mini me went in for a cut and the stylist was great with her. She loved the curls that were put in. One thing I didn't now until my last visit was that they participate in hair donation through Pantene Beautiful Lengths. I ended up donating 13 inches! I wish there was some deal they did for donating hair. Maybe I'll bring that up... Anyway, if you want a nice experience with a professional end result def hit this place up!! read more

Okay so I paid for 3 services from B'yond Style Hair Studio in January received 1 went to my February appt to which I was told the girl I did my services with left town unexpectedly and they had tried to reach me to reschedule but I never picked up (this didn't Happen no call was made I received no voicemail) I deal with it and go forward to schedule a new appt To which they have no date for when she's coming back IF she's even coming back and telling me how they have a new hire that's still in school and have no clue when she'll officially start. At this point I'm frustrated I ask for a refund they take my info for the manager because they can't process it. I've been calling weekly and can never reach one. I finally do on Monday and she tells me contact Groupon I do and they can't refund me because the salon marked it as redeemed Now I'm getting the run around yet again and the manager supposedly isint there or to busy to process my refund. I purchased a Groupon which was $59 for a haircut and half head highlights. I paid $20 extra and got a full head. The salon was clean, somewhat convenient location. i didn't have quarters so I parked a block or so down on Allen Street, it's a nice safe walk though in a bustling area. My stylist Kate couldn't have been any sweeter. She was young and just adorable and pretty with nice healthy looking hair, which I like in a stylist. (nothing worse than sitting down with some cynical old hairdresser with crunchy 80's hair) she gave a great consultation and we decided on a good color scheme I am very happy with. I was in and out in about 2 hours too which was nice bc some places just take so long. Granted the salon was pretty slow and I was her only customer though. While I like my cut and color very much and thought Kate did a wonderful job, after looking at the service menu prices, sadly I doubt very much if I'd return. :( To receive the same same service I did the other day, I'd be paying over $200 with gratuity! That's REALLY high for Albany in my opinion. If they lowered their prices to a more realistic level, I'd consider it, bc I am happy with my hair, but not $200+ happy.... read more

Drawn to this salon after reading many positive reviews. Trying to find a new hair stylist as mine has moved away. I won't be returning. My hair stylist was sweet and very polite but did not seem to listen to anything I said I wanted. I brought photos with me and took time to explain exactly what I wanted. My haircut was nothing like that. I'm not one to complain, perhaps I wasn't clear in the consultation, so I went on my way. I am now searching for another salon to fix it. In general, salon was a bit dirty. There was no beverages offered as stated in previous reviews. And there was hardly any conversation from the girls the entire time I was there except between themselves. Overall, I was disappointed because I was expecting a higher-end salon experience due to the images created from previous reviews. Its nothing more than your average hair salon. read more

I have been here a few times and over all I haver been happy. However, my last trip was a shock to my system. I asked to have eight inches cut off and then styled. Eight inches quickly escalated to close to 11/12! The hair style itself is cute, I just was not so sure about it at first. Now that I am used to the length it is very cute, easy to keep up, and I have gotten a lot of compliments! I will be back again. read more

This place is a godsend. If you have curly hair especially you should see Catherine, she really listens and understands to both what you want and need. I've gotten two haircuts from her so far and have been very satisfied with both. She's also great at blowouts. I went to this salon for the first time for what was probably a pretty drastic hair cut. I wanted to go from pretty long to shoulder-length with side-swept bangs. I think my stylist's name was Katie. I showed her some pictures of the type of bang I was looking for and she seemed okay with it, but a little hesitant - like she wasn't quite sure what she was doing. By the end of the cut, I ended up with my bangs being way too short! They took a quite a few weeks to grow back out to the point where they didn't look awkward. I was disappointed that I put trust in a stylist and walked away with a poor haircut. Overall, the salon was disappointing as well - staff were not all that friendly and I felt somewhat rushed. For the price you pay here, you can get a much better cut elsewhere. read more

I would give it 10 if I could. Just moved out of Albany to NYC where I thought I would be able to get decent hair cut at any time. FALSE. They stylist have bigger egos then Kanye and half the talent! Bridgette on the other hand is true stylist. She is one of the most talented hair gurus around. She listens to what you want, and combines it with her expertise to give you a cut that is fantastic and uniquely your own. Furthermore, even when her cuts grow out, it grows out in the same style, therefore still presenting a polished appearance. Bridgette's staff is friendly, fun and create genuinely enjoyable atmosphere to unwind. GO to Bridgette or any one at B'yond style, you will not be dissapointed!!!!! I've been a client at B'yond Style since they opened 7-8 years ago. I followed Bridget there from another salon she worked at when she decided to open her own salon. She is worth every penny and honestly the prices are average so I cannot complain at all! They now have the full line of Bumble and Bumble products and all the girls there are so sweet! Everyone says hello and chit-chats and they are always asking if you want water or if they can get you something else. They are a very professional and fun salon in a great location. Bring your quarters for the meters if you want a close spot or park for free a little further down the street and take a lovely walk down New Scotland to the salon. I cannot say enough good about them and any time I wasn't 100% happy the first words are "what can we do to fix it?". Leaving there unhappy is almost unheard of and that's why the reviews make me sad to read below. As a "regular", take my word for it! read more

I've been going to B'yond Style since I move to Albany from Michigan two years ago. I found them on the Bumble+Bumble website. Kathryn does such an awesome job on my hair. I can bring in pictures of any random short hair cut (usually on my phone via Pinterest) and she subtly tweaks it and makes it perfect for my hair type and face shape. I've recently started having her do my color, which previously I was too cheap to have done professionally. What a difference. Love the salon, especially love Kathryn. read more

I would give less than one star if possible. This was by far the worst haircut I have ever received in my life. It was choppy, uneven, and my hair was left even more damaged than when I came in. The owner, Bridget, was extremely rude and she clearly had no idea what she was doing. She also did not stop talking the entire time I was there about how horrible her day was going. I purchased a Groupon a few weeks ago and called in to schedule an appointment. I was able to get an appointment fairly easily and went in at 10 on Saturday when they opened. I had purchased a conditioning treatment and haircut Groupon package for $39. Crystal was my stylist I had told her I just really needed a good trim with layers. The conditioning treatment was great left my hair feeling soft and bouncy. During our conversation before and during the haircut I had told her about an event I was attending later that night. She had asked me if I had any plans for my hair and I had said no and she offered to blow dry and curl it for me. She was so sweet to do that and yeah it was just some basic curling with a straightening iron but she was great! The hair turned out great. Also, I had asked her for some advice on my usually chaotic curly hair she had told me about some products (never pushing anything on me) and did recommend a keratin treatment. She suggested that I do some research since I've never heard of it and that I can come in to get one done. Needless to say because of my good experience I will look into it and would be open to returning to this salon. read more

Went to get a manicure and pedicure. It was by far the worst experience I've ever had. The girl was 15 minutes late and this was a scheduled appointment! It took way too long, 2.5 hours! The polish was uneven and there paint all over my fingers and toes. They had VERY LIMITED colors and most were SOOO OLD. Worst of all my "technician" (if you can call her that) was unfriendly and moved on to another client while my nails were drying. She didn't even respond when I said goodbye. I went to B'yond Style for my wedding hairdo after getting a recommendation from a friend. So glad I did. I made an appt about a month prior for a trial and the stylist offered to try as many different things as I wanted. I loved what she came up with. Day of was super easy. They did a half updo for me, style for my mom and updos for 3 of my bridesmaids. Everyone's hair looked amazing and kept up through a windy couple of hours of pictures before the ceremony. They also finished earlier than we had estimated so we had extra time to lunch/get ready at the event space. read more

I usually have an okay experience but this time was so terrible I felt compelled to leave a review. First off I told the stylist to leave it long enough to put it back in a ponytail not only did she cut it so I cannot do that I can't do anything to it now. She chopped my hair right below my ears totally not the way I wanted it she cut it unevenly and it looked so bad I had to get another haircut right after at jean paul salon they did a great job completely reshaping it and smoothing it out. She clocked me in the eye with the styling brush and made a dumb joke about it and when I told her I was unhappy she was like "well you're the only person that's ever complained" so unprofessional. I basically had the worst haircut of my life my hair hasn't been this short since I was a little kid. Never going to give them business again. Even my mom has switched to Jean Paul salon. read more
