*Catering Review* I went to a party that was catered by BZ Grill. The food was great! The lamb/beef kebab was awesome! GET THE GREEK FRIES YOU WILL NOT BE SORRY! I've been here before years ago but never wrote a review (completely forgot). Me and my friend opted to sit outdoors. You tell the guy behind the counter your order and then later he calls you to take out the food. I assume because of the pandemic there's a lot more outdoor seating. Food portions are MASSIVE. The platter was huge. Easily shareable between 2 people. The salad was refreshing. My friend got the eggplant dish (comes in 2 sizes. One is the size of a small dip while the bigger one is appropriate as a side). When everything came out our table had no room. I wanted iced coffee but they didn't sell it at the restaurant but the guy was so sweet and recommended I go down the street to the deli as they sold iced coffee! So I did and got my iced coffee. When it was time to pay, he gave me and my friend beer and ginger ale on the house! What a friendly sweet environment!!! Really nice to see so much kindness during the pandemic. Finally made it here a pork gyro. My first bite was just the pork and it had some crunch, juiciness, and the right amount of fat. Everything about the gyro was done right - the pita toasted and warm - the tatziki was thick, tangy, and garlicky - decent amount of tomato and lettuce - and the whole thing held together in the paper wrapping. This is a great place to go for a Greek chicken or pork gyro in Astoria, Queens which is a NYC neighborhood well known for its Greek food and heritage. Both are delicious but I recommend eating the pork gyro right away while it's piping hot for best results as the longer it cools the more it loses its flavor I've found, while the chicken maintains its flavor significantly longer if you are getting takeout and some time will pass between receiving your food and actually eating it. They are always pretty fast and efficient with getting your order out to you and they have tables you can sit at if you want to stay and eat or their gyros are also a great food to take and eat on the go. I appreciate this place for being an inexpensive option for great quality Greek food. Service is always friendly. Maybe I haven't been to that many gyro places, but I must say, this was one of the best gyros I've ever had. Got the pork gyro and a kebab (lamb gyro). They stuff a generous amount of pork in your gyro and the pita around it is just perfect. Just a tad burnt so that you have some warm delicious crunch on the outside. I actually liked the lamb better than the pork, but both were amazing. The kebab had a better balance of meat with pita and veggies. Just one very wholesome delicious bite, whereas the pork is overwhelming from the pork. Also got the platter with hummus, eggplant, and some other dip with pita. omg so good. I've only had their lunch specials which is pita sandwich of your choice, fries and drink for $13 ($11.95 before tax) Food is phenomenal as I got lunch here twice this week. They have very limited staff as this is mostly a two go type of place, but they are great. It was super busy when I arrived today and I was told in advance that it would be 15-20 min since they were busy. I thought that was great as in other places sometimes they don't tell you at all! I ordered 2 gyros and fries. the gyros were so greasy to a point it was not edible and there was bone in the sandwich. Astoria is no stranger to excellent greek food and BZ Grill is no exception. I was first introduced to this place by my cousin. We had ordered some greek food to do a quick lunch at his nearby apartment with family. Since then I have been going to BZ Grill regularly to get their perfectly constructed gyros. I particularly love their lunch combo. A gyro, fries, and a drink for $10. You get a stacked to the brim gyro with perfectly crispy meat. My son took my wife to BZ grill and she said she liked it better than SVL Bar, where I had taken her a few months earlier. So when a Groupon for a mixed grill platter became available she decided to take me. The Groupon deal was about $11 for a $29 mixed grill platter for two. It also came with a choice of beer, wine or a soft drink. I had a Greek beer my wife had the wine. Before the platter was brought out a plate of falafel, pita bread, hummus and eggplant salad was placed before us. The Hummus was OK and the eggplant salad was very tasty. The falafel was too well done for my taste and I've definitely had better. I also commented that the noise level was too high and not helped by the family with the loud kids and a grandmother who kept disciplining the kids. I did not have to hear that. Teach yer kids how to behave before you take them out to eat in public. OK rant over. Then the mixed grill platter arrived had enough food for at least 3 or 4 people we took most of it home. The platter contained Chicken and pork gyro, bifteki gemisto, seftalia and loukaniko served with french fries and Tzatziki, Yogurt cucumber garlic dip and Kopanisti ,Ground feta cheese spread with red crushed peppers, olive oil and lemon juice. Both were just OK and the Kopanisti was too spicy for my taste. The Biftekia Gemista a Greek burger consisting of a roll of seasoned ground beef, stuffed with cheese was too well done almost blackened. The seftalia and loukaniko Greek sausages were also too well done. The pork gyro meat was a fatty mess, I ended up spitting it out into a napkin. The only good thing on the platter was the chicken gyro and the french fries. Needless to say I will not be going back. Glad we had the Groupon. Next time I'm in the mood for Greek cooking I'll be going back to SVL Bar. read more

I have been wanting to go to this place for year or so. My friend who I ended up going there with, gets delivery all the time from there , always spoke well about it. Small location about 5 tables I think inside and couple outside . so when I saw a Groupon deal for them I took advantage of it . we get there and we are warmly greeted by the worker . as soon as we say we are there for groupon deal his attitude changed for a second. Spoke Spanish with the cook telling him in a sarcastic tone " Another Groupon Deal, give them alot & only vegetables " not sure if he thought we didn't understand Spanish. Well after that we go sit inside get our food from waitress and never see her again haha . not sure if this place is self service or not because we wanted to get some me things but no one came back to take order. Other table next to us had to get Wine bottle themselves so we went and got a drink as well so not sure if it is self service. it unfortunately gets a bit worse , I'm not big fan of Hummus but the one time I had it it wasn't like the one I had here. my friend said it seemed expired. it was hard not creamy. This is the Grill Deal. They don't have Chicago-style Gyros that most of you probably know as Gyros. But BZat as it may, it's still *the* destination for Gyros in Queens. You simply must try them. The owner was engaged to Kate Winslet. She dumped him on a boat for Leo. So he (Billy Zane) "drowned" his sorrows (pun intended) by opening this place with his initials as the name. Up in Canada, as I found out this past weekend, Gyro is a Pork (or Chicken) product. In that way, the Gyros are very similar to those back in Athens. They are also delicious. However, in the USA, Chicago invented its own type of Gyro. A ground combo of beef and lamb, made famous by companies like Kronos. That "Gyro" has become famous all over the US, and is absolutely delicious. In NYC, it's perfected by "Gyro World" and "Greek Express" up in the Bronx. In Queens, "Gyro Uno" does a very good one. But those are all "Chicago Style Gyros." I've only ever had one really amazing, authentic, delicious authentic Athens Pork Gyro in the USA. And that is at BZ Grill. If you are a hunter, but are too young to own a real gun, then go to the BB Grill, where they'll give you a free BB Gun with every meal. It's was a favourite haunt of BB King, and is where the band BBMak and the singer BeBe Peniston hang out. Easily one of the best foods in Queens, and one of USA's best Gyros (although it's not what Americans call a Gyro), these chunks of pork have marinaded on the rotunda/spindle, and are sliced off and fall into your fluffy soft delicious pita along with some lettuce, onions, tomatoes and yogurt sauce. Everything about the Gyro is the same as a traditional American (Chicago) Gyro, except for the fact that it's chunks of delicious juicy crunchy tender dreamy grizzly pork, rather than the ground combo of lamb and beef. If you'd like to fill up on gas while you eat, then check out the BP Grill instead. It's across from the Exxon Lounge and down the road from the Texaco Family Diner. BZ Grill's service has never been amazing, and it's never been bad either. I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes for anything. The food has always been extremely fresh, dangerously sizzling hot, and incomparably delicious. The pita and lettuce they use are fantastic. I stop here for an authentic Athens Pork Gyro every single time I am in town. I've also tried their Chicken Souvlaki, which was good, but not great. I'm spoiled by the amazing Souvlakis up in Buffalo. However this Pork Gyro is incomparably wonderful. If you have to squint in order to see your food through all the smoke from the kitchen (which is actually an open kitchen), then you'll have BD Eyes, which is how this place got its name (BD Grill). If they were in Toronto, they'd be one of many serving this product, but in the USA, they're an island. A beautiful delicious Greek Island at that. And for the record, of all the authentic Pork Gyros I've tried (many in Canada), BZ Grill is right up there at the top, just ahead of Messina, which is my fave in Toronto. They have a location in Washington: DC Grill. One in Kelowna: BC Grill. In Burlington: VT Grill. In Raleigh: NC Grill. In Charleston: SC Grill. In Morgantown: WV Grill. In Rapid City: SD Grill. In Sao Paulo: SP Grill. In London: BBC Grill. Which is the location where a lot of single girls go, for some reason. I have no idea why. Get yourself to BZ Grill and try this amazing authentic Pork Gyro, just the way you'd get it in Athens. Queens is the food capital of the USA and BZ Grill is the authentic Gyro capital of NYC. It's probably a little too easy to label BZ Grill as simply a gyro spot, but that's what happens when one's reputation precedes everything else, even if they have much more to offer. That said, the hype machine should not be taken lightly - the gyro really is something. From a brick and mortar standpoint, BZ isn't much to look at. The place is somewhat grimy, as well as a tad dodgey on the outside. There's no need to judge a book by it's cover. After all, it's places like these that tend to be my favorite. The star attraction and the likely reason for any new patronage is for their gyro. Of the meaty variety, the pork emerges as the star. When cut fresh from the spit (and it's a big hunk - impossible to miss upon entry), the meat is succulent, juicy, and usually has just the right amount of char. When combined with the pita, tzaziki, veggies, and a helping of their fries, it delivers a wow factor worthy of every bite. Other great choices include their chicken shawarma and Greek sausages. Both are as hearty as the gyro and should be regarded in the same breath of flavordom. Granted they're not part of the uber popular lunch special, but alas, the world only provides so many gems. Veggie friends rejoice: the falafel is not only underrated but delicious. Unlike the usual pucks of fried chickpeas, BZ's version is more ball like. Combine it with a small spread of hummus and feta spread and it's a great meal (or appetizer). Lastly, don't bother ordering their regular fries. It's a little Greek shack further down toward the residential part of Astoria Blvd and honestly, I really don't see what the big deal is. While the food was really good, i have to give a negative review for the terrible customer service. I ordered over $100 worth of food to pick up. When i got home and unpacked the bag there were 2 items missing. I called them and they told me i had to go pick up the missing orders. Are you kidding me? They screw up and I have to go back because they can't deliver it. How about you try getting my order right?!? They claimed they would refund me for the missing items but I'm still waiting on that and no offer on additional compensation for their screw up. Like i said, the food was good, but not good enough considering how they treat their customers.
