I love this concept! Fill up a bowl with anything you want in the buffet, give it to the chef who grills it, returns it to your bowl, and brings it to your table. Noodles, several meats, and pretty much any veggie you can imagine are available. You also get to custom-mix your sauces (soy sauce, garlic, ginger, sugar water, cooking wine, etc.). They have recommended recipes for the sauces. It's a bit pricey after 4pm ($15.50 for all you can eat), but if you get there hungry and stay a bit, you may be able to knock out a second bowl and really get your money's worth. Just know that you cannot take your second bowl home (store policy). Several reviews here complained about the place and the staff. I don't get that - at 4:30 on a weekday, it was spotlessly clean (including the restrooms), and the staff was prompt and friendly. The furnishings and decor are classy and comfortable. I guess their lunch special is under $10 for one bowl, rice, and sesame bread, which is a good deal. Solid 4 stars. I would give it 4.5 stars if I could. read more

They are still doing wonderful dine in service. They will build your bowl as you ask for each ingredient as much or as little as you like, then quickly and skillfully grill up your selection on the Mongolian bbq! This is a place where you can build your own bowl. You may choose to add a number of sauces, oils, seasonings, etc. This is a place that should easily cater to dietary restrictions as the customer decides what goes in their meal by filling the bowl themselves. After a bowl is filled you take it to the grill to be cooked. I presented my bowl for cooking, adding that it's very important for me to avoid sugars and sauces that aren't already in my bowl. The kid cooking said OK. He proceeded to mix mine with other tables' bowls that used various sauces of unknown types. He also added a sweetened sauce to the other bowls he was cooking, spilling into mine. This method clearly went against what he just agreed to do for me. I have been here many, many, many times and have been able to have my food cooked without sugar. Today, I was not permitted to have that. The disrespectful boy working told me that it does have sugar in it now but it's fairly minimal. Apparently he's now able to give medical advice. I was charged for something I cannot eat. I was told when I placed my order that my dietary restrictions would be respected. This boy then looked me in the face and admitted to me that he refused to do that. He acted as though I was wrong for requesting that he doesn't add stuff to my food that I cannot eat. I feel very cheated, and the employees don't seem to care. This is probably my favorite place in town to get Mongolian BBQ they have a ton of fresh veggies to chose from and a few meat options. Thus place has a lot more variety than other places like it in town. I always go at lunch time since it is across town for me. I only have it 4 stars since it seems like their prices keep going up. You do get a piece of bread, rice and soup along with your noodle bowl, but for $12 i feel like I could get a lot more else where. I do like it a lot so I still pay it and enjoy my food. read more

Honestly, I give this place 5 stars. 4 Location, pretty easily accessible, but kinda hidden with all the nearby businesses in between. 4.5 cleanliness, could use a upgrade on flooring and such, but pretty clean all around. 5 Price is a bit steep, but you can either eat allot or get a good amount of food togo. 5 food is delicious, I think it helps if you already know how to cook and what to do, but they also leave recipes on top for you to follow. Great for diets that are specific, since your literally the one adding in the ingredients. They cook it in front of you and then you can add more soy sauce or hot sauce from the side. I've been here multiple times over the past few years and have always left pretty happy and stuffed. They start you off with a bowl of soup, rice and bread. All optional and you can decline anything if you feel is too much, but the sesame bread is the best!! My favorite is getting food togo, we eat plenty from home and take some for lunch the next day. Go ahead, rub my belly for good luck, wealth and prosperity because I walked out of C.I. Chu's Mongolian Barbeque like a fat little Buddah. I love a good Mongolian BBQ place and C.I. Chu's is pretty solid. Walked in for lunch and L & I were immediately greeted by a very friendly woman who asked if we'd been there before. We replied in the negative and quickly got the run down on how our experience would flow. Grabbed our bowls and stepped up to the line. Loved the assortment of vegetables but would have enjoyed a few more Asian inspired items like snow peas, baby corn, radish, water chestnuts and fresh chilies. The meats (chicken, beef & pork) weren't fatty and were thinly sliced. A sea food option is on the table as well but I didn't see what was in it. I liked that there were a couple of sauce recipes and I decided to try one - Spicy Szechuan. Tasty however I made it more to my liking with an extra scoop of hot chile oil and added plenty of ginger. Our meals were served with soup, rice and sesame bread. I went with the hot and sour soup and while it was tasty, it could have had more heat and sour. Service is very friendly and helpful and I'd definitely come back when I want a LOT of food. So much food that Buddah now has dinner for tonight! read more

I absolutely love this place. The food is amazing, it's fast and a great deal. You can get one bowl for 9.50 before 4pm or all you can eat for $13 all day/only option after 4pm. You get to make your own creation of meat, veggies and sauces then it's cooked right there on the wok in front of you. Another restaurant that would have been a borderline five-star review just a couple of years ago, C.I. Chu's Mongolian Barbeque is a place that still serves edible Mongolian cuisine (at times), but at a fraction of the quality it used to provide. I have tried a multitude of Mongolian BBQ joints in my lifetime and this one is merely passable. You are permitted to assemble your own dish before they BBQ it. You can choose any of the available ingredients and pile them on as needed. You have to be cautious, however, as there are instances where they do not allow you to take any food home, even if you avoid all-you-can-eat. So, if you're famished, go bonkers. Pile on the veggies, the pork, the chicken, the beef. The sauces they provide are pretty ace as well. Nevertheless, once your food is consummated, it is simply nothing more than passable. There have been moments where it has been exquisite, but over the previous year or two the food quality has seemingly deteriorated. not than it's inedible, but it no longer inspires multiple future trips. The service is good. There is beer. It's clean. But something about the completed product leaves much to be desired. Perhaps I have just been unlucky, but C.I. For being the only Mongolian in Tucson it gets 2 stars. The sauce options were limited. There was a wide variety of vegetables 4 meat choices. The soup, according to my wife was good. And they serves this bread that is pretty good. Here is the bad. The grill is only scrapped and not oiled. This causes your food to get a char on it and leaves a bad aftertaste. You must oil the grill so that the food doesn't stick. I find that in most cases the sauces make the dish. Well they need more sauce. Noodles I am pretty sure we're just spaghetti noodles. Put your meat in the bowl first, it is frozen and will take up lots of space. Then pile in the vegies. I like adding cilantro and pine apple for flavor and a nice sweet spark. The meat quality was very good - not stringy and tough like some places. The sesame bread is good. Go light on any rice to not fill up so you can enjoy your main dish. There is no accommodation for lighter tastes or single bowl patrons, maybe that is why there was only one single diner in its large dining room! Well designed food bar, cool descriptors along the way and an a-MAZ-ing service counter in red and shiny burnished stainless. But the server/host/cook seem more trained to explain the rule than be gracious and offer up suggestions - more important than following management rules, should be the number one 'rule' - customer service! This is the worst Mongolian restraint I've been to! the customer service is awful. My family all fixed our bowls, got our sides and sat down. The first problem and I should've left, was that the fountain drink machines carbonation was flat. All of the sodas on tap tasted like flat soda out of a bottle. We let the server know the soda was flat and she said they would get it changed. Then, after 15 mins, they brought my husband his meal, and then my son his meal a couple minutes later. When it came to mine, I got some one else's meal. After taking the bowl they said was mine back to the cook, they walked the bowl back out to another table and gave it to another customer, strike 1. by this time my husband had decided to try the soda machine again, and still flat soda, strike 2. Then a couple minutes later the server comes over and says "you'll have to make a new bowl, our cook misplaced yours". Well that's strike 3! I will not wait another 15 to 20 minutes for a bowl to be cooked or make my family wait to eat their cold food, because we all eat together as a family. If you want Mongolian, please don't go here! I very much miss Genghis Grill and wanted something similar, so I tried this place. Walking in, it seemed dark and dreary, and it wasn't very busy for a Saturday night. All the raw, frozen meat hanging out with flies buzzing around seems unsanitary and is off-putting, but I went with it anyway and built my bowl. I wasn't impressed by the sauce choices, and it would be cool if they offered suggestions for combining the sauces. The portion sizes were large, but the food tasted below average. I'm not sure what some of my fellow yelpers are looking for in a mongolian BBQ. I've yet to visit one that didn't have all of the ingredients out for you to fill a bowl with and bring to the cook to serve you. That's the point of such a place. You fill your bowl up with the veggies, fruit, meat and sauces that you enjoy then let the guy with the giant chop sticks cook it for you. I love this place and have been here many times. I like the endless combinations, healhty food and tasty sauces. The sauces are "watered down" to help it permeate through all of the food. Just add an extra scoop of some of them to get stronger flavors. It's tasty. They also give you sesame bread, white or brown rice and a choice of two soups. This is basic fare and good. Their iced teas are pretty good as well and they have some beers including a couple imports. The only complaint I have is that it is a bit overpriced given the cafeteria style of it. I'd charge closer to 8 per person for all you can eat. Other than that, its a nice, healthy place to eat. read more

We went here for the 1st time last week as we got a voucher from resturant.com and thought it would be worth a try. From the moment i stepped inside i knew this wasnt going to be what I was expecting but we decided we were going to give it a try anyway. We were greeted right away and expained the pricing structure u can pay by the bowl or you could do all you can eat... we went with the all you can eat option as it was only slightly more expensive.... service from the start was great I wish I could say the same about the food.... The meat was frozen which put me off right away.. (i am not a bginner to Mongolian BBQ we used to go to 1 in NM that was AMAZING and the meat was always FRESH AND NEVER FROZEN) And none of the vegtables looked overaly fresh and the sauces looked very watery.... we were given complimentry rice (a choice of white or brown) soup and sesame bread.... The rice tasted old, the soup not very good at all but I must say the bread was amazing very fresh and tasty.... I was also disappointed that they dont offer a childrens menu at all and my little ones wouldnt eat the food we got for them so I would advise if you have little children who dont eat this kind of food then dont go with them..... again the Mongolian BBQ we used to go to had several other options for children so I just assumed that this place would to.... umm I learnt my lesson on that one!!! However, the prices have gotten to the point where I would only consider coming here if I had been recently rescued from an underground bunker where I had spent the last 15 years--but thankfully I have no self control. I recommend sticking with egg drop soup unless you are used to the flavors of the other two. DINERS BEWARE!! MOST UNPROFESSIONAL OWNERS WITH EXTREMELY OVERPRICED FOOD WHO BLAME THEIR CUSTOMERS FOR ERRORS THEY MADE & THEIR LACK OF BUSINESS. Went to this establishment a few times to check it out after my local stir fry place that I've been going to since 2000 announced that they are closing after all these years. The chef was very happy to oblige in providing me with a taste of the hottest addition they offered to compliment my bowl, and was tipped handsomely for his extra effort. Immediately after paying an overpriced $32.00 for two bowls & one soft drink via a one time trip through the bar, the "manager" approached me at my table & demanded to know prefacing with a "not to get anyone in trouble here" attitude who suggested the hot condiment to be added to my food. Then they proceeded to seriously LECTURE ME on the suggested use of the condiment & BLAME ME for the fact that it was used on my bowl & even tried to BLAME ME for the fact that a few of their employees & other guests were coughing, WHEN IT WAS THEIR EMPLOYEE WHO DID THE COOKING & THEY PROVIDED THE CONDIMENT!! I was also advised how this will never be happening in the future while I was trying to enjoy my 32.00 one way trip to the bar, which was absurd!!! First of all, I'm not in charge of the kitchen or what they decide to offer to the public for consumption, they should have replied with a "this is the spiciest thing we offer" instead of allowing me to put it on my dish & trying to blame me for their employees/ customers well being & dwindling business performance which doesn't justify them staying in business. Sad part about it.... it was the best thing created on their menu courtesy of their own furnished ingredients & this was the first time I met either of the owners so they left a perfect & lasting first impression of a failing business who likes to mistreat their patrons. If it wasn't for my girlfriend suggesting this place I would have never stepped foot in this place & will definitely not be returning. Now they charge 75 cents if you want more than the little piece you're allotted with the $11 meal price. Soft drinks are $3, so give me a break with the nickel and diming us, huh? I saw this place on the way back to my hotel yesterday and thought I'd give it a shot today. It was super disappointing, YC's and Genghis Grill have spoiled me with Mongolian food and this place just doesn't measure up in any way. The ingredients selection was limited, there were four sauces, no seasonings, and three protein options in the line. The owner seems to also adopt the methodology of "death by a thousand up-charges." Keep in mind this place isn't cheap, 16.50 for a single bowl and a 2.00 up charge if you want beef. Protein is so conveniently kept at the very end of the line so you use the majority of your bowl space on things like noodles, vegetables, and other low cost items to maximize profits. Drinks were also rather pricey, 3.25 for a cup and .25 up charge for a togo cup, I was looking at silverware and soy sauce to see if there was another surcharge they could stick on the tab before asking for a tip. read more
