We finally got around to eating here and wow, I'm just sorry we didn't add it to our list sooner! The place is quite small inside but adequate. It was clean and tasteful. It's nice they have a drive-thru option too. The staff were friendly and our food was done quickly. My husband, daughter and I decided to order the family meal so we could try several things and take some home. We opted for the katsu chicken, kalua pork and the BBQ chicken. All entrees came in their own container on a bed of cooked cabbage. There was also a container of rice and a container of macaroni salad. Everything was beyond delicious and the helpings were very generous. I feel we really got out money's worth, which in this day and age is unusual. The katsu chicken is the best I've ever eaten. It was cooked to perfection, moist inside and crunchy outside and the katsu sauce was delicious. The chicken even retained it's crispness after being microwaved later at home. The kahlua pork was super tasty! Nice and smoky and very tender. Yummers! The BBQ chicken was mouth-wateringly delicious! I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. It's counter service fast(ish) food, so you're not really there for the ambiance, but the dining room was clean. My only complaint would be the staff behind the counter talking smack to each other, frequently punctuated with mild expletives. Their chicken katsu was cool to touch and their katsu sauce - watery. Short cut to save money it seems. Teriyaki beef wasn't bad but again, room temp. Mac salad tasted like tuna salad for whatever reason and the rice was old dry. We've grown accustomed to getting freshly cooked Hawaiian food from L&L and appreciate hot food cooked to order. Since I needed to go to Costco, I decided to give this place a try. Clean inside. Ordering is done at the counter. The man at the counter was pleasant and friendly. I asked what I should try. His recommendation was the BBQ plate, BBQ chicken, BBQ beef and beef short rib with cabbage & broccoli, rice and macaroni salad. I asked to sub teriyaki chicken for the BBQ one. Done. The teriyaki chicken was good, the beef (both kinds) was dry and borderline tasteless. One pet peeve I have is food served in takeout containers (at least they weren't styrofoam) and plastic utensils. Servings are generous, I just wish I chose differently. A couple sitting next to me had fried shrimp that looked really good. If I ever go in there again, I will order it. They serve Pepsi products and since I hate Pepsi and want Coke products, I drank water. Prices are okay given portion sizes. My plate was just under $17. For dine-in options, please use real plates, not take-out containers. Same thing with plastic utensils. I don't do take-out as I want my meal fresh from the kitchen. If food is served in styrofoam containers, I won't eat there. These were some kind of plastic/paper recyclable containers and too small for the amount of food stuffed in them. Close to Costco and a good place to get a low cost Neal for Hawaiian flare. Don't know if there was a problem with the cooling system but the day I was there they had a portable cooler running. As someone from Hawai'i I didn't love this place. I've can think of at least two plate lunch places in Tucson I liked more. The service was nice and quick though, only reason to not rate it lower. I got the mini plate Chicken Katsu all rice. This seemed like the best deal for one choice, you could have the Mac salad instead of all rice. Around $10. The chicken katsu was just okay. The decor was also weird with the "aloha" surfboards, bright blue paint, ukelele music, no real words in the songs. Not sure if they're trying to appeal as authentic, but not close in my opinion. A fast-casual spot that offers a variety of plates, appetizers, and specialities. Came here with a group Saturday afternoon and it was bustling. There is the main dining area with mixed high tables and low tables and a separate dining area with a few larger tables for groups. I ordered the chicken katsu plate, others got the white fish plate, shrimp plate, and chicken teriyaki plate. We all agreed the portions were huge, enough for 2 meals, so you get your money's worth, which is hard to come by these days. The chicken was done perfectly, super crispy panko breading on the outside, juicy on the inside, and the katsu sauce (filled up at a condiment station) was sweet and tangy. The plates come with 2 scoops of white rice and a scoop of macaroni salad, some with veggies. The macaroni salad was a different kind of side (popular in Hawaii, is my understanding) and it almost had a mac 'n cheese quality to it versus something you'd get at a deli. I thought "veggies" meant cooked/steamed vegetables on the side but it was just the chicken sat on a bed of shredded cabbage, which I should have known having ordered katsu at Japanese restaurants before. Regardless, the food was very delicious, filling, and worth the price. I tried one of the shrimp as well and it was as good as the chicken. Service is friendly, even though they ran out of chicken so some of the orders took longer than others, and you have to stay close to the counter since they call out the order number and it can be hard to hear over the general store noise. Saw this place when I went to Costco the other day. Today was the day to try it out. It is a fast food setup, i.e. order at counter, get own drink, pickup order when they yell out your number. It was really busy when I was there and they nearly ran out of seating. I ordered the Hawaiian BBQ platter and soda. It was lots of food. The chicken was tasty as was the beef. It is served with cabbage, white rice, and macaroni salad. All were done well. Comparing it to the few others places in town, it is better. After living in Hawaii for years, we definitely miss the food as it is hard to find what we enjoyed in Ewa here in the mainland. Every now & then we find something close, this is one of those times. Clean dining area with plenty of seating (even has a side area with more tables). Decor is sparce (surfboards), but has the feel of a food shack off the beach. Menu is easy, and covers the staples. The Mac salad does set the tone at anyplace that says it does Hawaiian barbecue. This Mac is pretty good and comes with rice (pretty standard) and complements the main courses. We did Shrimp, Fish and three meats - chicken, kalbi, and BBQ beef. My wife loved the panko breaded shrimp & fish. I like it a little lighter on breading, but it was good. The meats were seasoned and delicious. The teriyaki chicken was juicy, and my favorite. The Kalbi was decent, but leaned on the fatty side. We ordered the Kalua pork, Chicken Katsu, and the BBQ Beef. Each of the platters was flavorful. The portions are large. The aspect I do not like that is common amongst Hawaiian "fast casual" restaurants is the amount of waste that occurs with each transaction, including the plastic food containers, glasses, utensils, and paper plates. Great Hawaiian BBQ. We tried the Kalbi, Kahlua pork, and Chicken Katsu. The Kalbi was flavorfully marinated, a little fatty, but in a good way ha. The katsu made with dark meat, was very crispy. The Kahlua pork was tender and had a great sweet smoky flavor. My Aloha plate came with rice and a big iceberg salad with a sweeter french like dressing. Would order dressing on the side next time. My husband's Kalbi plate came with rice and macaroni salad, he enjoyed the Mac salad, felt it was the best Hawaiian Mac he's had in Tucson. The portions were large and the pricing seemed fair as well. They also offer two sauces at a serve yourself station; teriyaki and katsu (like a sweet and sour sauce). The ordering setup was a bit chaotic when we arrived during dinner hours on a Sunday. The cash registers are right next to the drinks/sauce station and also where people getting takeout wait for their food. It was a jumble, I'm sure fine during slow times. The electronic display was really difficult for my (almost 40 year old eyes) to read, the color, font and style could be improved. And one of the menu screens flashes to a screensaver of their logo, I had to wait three flashes before I made my decision. Once we made it to the front I noticed paper menus, would've been helpful to grab those first. New spot so I'm sure they're still working out some of those logistical kinks.
