Another update! Today we went nuts and ordered the Meat Combo Appetizer AND our own entrees. The appetizer was so much fun: 2 Egg Rolls, 2 Crab Puffs, 2 Shrimp Tempura, 2 Beef Kabobs, 2 BBQ Ribs. The egg rolls are huge, crispy, and not the least bit greasy. The shrimp tempura is light and crisp. The beef kabobs are well flavored and cooked crispy, which is an interesting and yummy presentation, The ribs are large and flavorful. The crab puffs are amazing! We could have eaten ten of them; a crisp outside is stuffed with a melting cheesy crab mixture. Divine! House -made Chinese mustard (so good and really clears out the sinuses!) and sweet dipping sauces completed the appetizers. I've reviewed our entrees before and they are as delicious as always. I had the Three Delight Moo Shu, a platter filled with fresh vegetables, shrimp, and chicken; accompanied by sauce (hoisin?) and rice pancakes. I enjoy making my little "burrito" bites! My dining friend had the Mongolian Three Delight; shrimp, chicken, and beef prepared with at least three kinds of onions and a mildly spicy sauce, and a large bowl of rice. My friend has a spice-loving palate, and was brought a bowl of hot chili sauce. Visible pepper flakes floated in the sauce and it was pronounced perfect. I love being greeted by name and the food is scrumptious. Golden House is immaculate throughout and it is a pleasure to visit and enjoy their food. See you next month, Ming! read more

SO incredibly grateful to have somewhere to eat close by that's not only local but has TONS of gluten free options. I truly feel normal eating here having celiac. The food is amazing and the staff / owners are genuinely so kind. My husband and I just love this place, we eat here a lot! BROWN RICE lives here, YAY! AND no upcharge to swap for white, already grabbing points here! Golden House also touts No MSG too if that bothers you. (ramen, Doritos occasionally and hidden in so many other seasonings, it's overly criticized, and did you know, made from natural ingredients molasses, sugar beets, starch & sugar) . 2 std dishes Kung Pao Chicken $14.95 and Beef Snow Peas $16.95 were both tasty. KP was a tad too sweet and would make that adjustment in future, had mid level heat as served-- overall 4/5 hubby enjoyed. Snow Peas were a bit tough, chewy vs tender and snappy. Maybe a parboil to tenderize before quick wok hit ? and velveted beef had decent texture and flavor 3.75/5 a bit chewy and garlicky brown sauce aok. Portions are fair, you may have leftovers if you aren't really hungry but hubby easily ate his KP but only 1/3 of a heaped rice bowl. $3.50 for a small single pot of black tea (oolong?) was a bit stee, they got too busy to ask for more H20, but the free upgrade on brown rice more than makes par haha Overall a 3.8/5 for flavor and quality, Golden House is good. But still searching for a Go-to on SE side... Chef Wang still shines brighter for us: authenticity, wok hei, fresh bamboo shoots, tofu skin wraps, clay pot with Chinese dried mushrooms, variety on menu... although, alas no brown rice :/ Thankful though for this family Chinese restaurant, a quickly iconic mainstay of US dining, nearing extinction in many towns. Possibly my favorite Chinese restaurant in Tucson! Favorite dish: Spicy Salt Fish. Everything I have tried is delicious. They give you those deep fried wonton strips like back in the 80's, too. I will say they don't have a lot of competition, unfortunately, since most of the Chinese on the East side is sub par. I haven't been to the West or South Tucson. I do like Old Peking for food from a fully different area of China. Especially if you're in the mood for duck. read more

I placed a large to-go order on Christmas Eve, and when I got home I realized they forgot to include one of my meals so I had to drive all the way back. I was not pleased. The food was just okay. While I have reviewed this place before, Yelp is asking me for another, or possibly replacement review. Ming, the owner, used to work at Guilin Chinese restaurant on Grant Road before they close down nearly 10 years ago. We followed her when she opened up golden house shortly after. In addition to having amazing tasting food, Ming is just the friendliest and most welcoming person we have ever encountered at a restaurant. She has watched our kids grow up over the years, and always asks us how they are doing. Truly, she is a beautiful human being! read more

This is a great restaurant! We love their lunch specials. The lunch specials come with soup, appetizer, rice and your entree. My husband usually doesn't care for Chinese but loves their Moo Goo Gai Pan. We don't have large appetites so we can make the lunch special last for lunch and dinner. read more

The food was good. I had Sweet and Sour chicken and my husband had same, only pork. Meat was fried perfect and serving sizes were plentiful. We each took half home. The device was good. Very friendly waitress and on top of everything. Overall I would have given a 4 but the ambiance was very dated and I wasn't sure how clean it was. I didn't go to the restroom because I didn't want to find an old, unclean restroom as it would have ruined my dinner. That being said, it was a Monday night and it was full of families. I was in the area and as usual, craving Chinese food. Neighbors on Next Door mentioned this place, so I came in. Small place, clean and friendly. I ordered shrimp lw/vegetables. It was very tasty, egg drop soup was good. I was served some crispy noodles to munch on as well. Everything was delicious, fresh and served piping hot. Lunch special prices are very reasonable. We went to this place while visiting with family. I got the dumplings, wonton soup and mu shu pork. The dumplings were strange-the wrapper was dry. Tasty inside. I expected either steamed or fried so the outside texture was a bit off-putting. I got a small wonton soup with chicken and it was a very small bowl-1 wonton, 1 piece of chicken. The mu shu pork was good! I liked this place because they could accommodate my request for no garlic or onion. My husband got sweet and sour soup which was actually half egg drop and half sweet and sour because he didn't want it spicy. He said it was good. He got shrimp mu shu which he didn't like-he didn't like the shrimp as the mu shu so it was more of a personal dislike, not that the dish wasn't cooked well. read more

This is a small restaurant within a strip mall. But don't let that stop you! The service was amazing. Staff was quick to refill drinks. They were not overly attentive but kept a watch. When we were done eating, we didn't have to wait for someone to offer take home containers and the bill which was really nice. The best part was the fantastic food. My daughter and I both ordered the orange chicken. This chicken was nothing like I was expecting. It was better! My mom ordered sweet and sour shrimp. She absolutely loved it. Wow, this place is soooo good! Tonight, we got the Mongolian vegan chicken, vegan sesame chicken, shrimp lo mein, crab puffs, and veggie drumsticks. The Mongolian fish smelled like it came straight off the grill. It was so delicious and spicy just like we asked for it! No oily like most places. The sesame dish was amazing, crispy on the outside and soft inside, not overly sweet. Best crab puffs I have ever had! The young man at the front was so sweet and helped me with options! This is a follow up to last time. Unfortunately things have gone down the hill. How would I know when we sat down that the best thing on the table would be the commercial sweet and sour sauce. Since they have Pepsi products on the fountain machine we asked for two cans of Diet Coke out of the cooler up front. One sip of that drink tasted awful and a check of the expiration date showed it expired in July 2021. It is December 2022. No wonder it was bad. We sent them back and watched them pull all the rest out of the cooler. We got some water with lemon instead. We ordered a lot of things because we plan to have leftovers but that would not have worked out tonight. I asked for a cup of the hot and sour soup. A staple of these restaurants. They brought me the tiniest of cups for $3.99. A slight white pepper taste in an otherwise bland gooey broth. Fail. We also ordered the Ma Bo tofu, beef chop suey, Mongolian chicken, and garlic eggplant. Each was particularly unacceptable in its own way, bland, washed out, flavorless. If portions were ever larger tonight they were sized for little girls and old women. I could write more in detail but, really, why bother. It pains me to say this but I can no longer recommend this place. We won't be back for a long long time. One other thing. If you use a credit card, you get to pay a $0.50 fee. Oh joy. Our server was very nice and polite. If there is in Tucson a restaurant that can still reliably deliver excellent standard Americanized Cantonese Chinese food, please let me know. read more

Excellent food, service, and felt like a small family restaurant with very fresh, healthy Chinese food. Seemed very clean. Plus they can make almost everything gluten free! I'm celiac and they were careful to make sure all things at our table were gluten free. The service was amazing. Loved the quaint feel inside too. If we lived in Tucson we would eat here all of the time. Luckily we are only 2 hours away and it was so delicious we could easily make a day trip or weekend trip to enjoy it. This place boasts of serving up "healthy Chinese food" and they hold true to their promise. I called in to order takeout and the woman who answered the phone was so helpful. Told me about a few beef entrees, and I ended up with the beef with triple mushroom. SO good with bright, crunchy vegetables throughout a garlic sauce. Truly excellent. I also opted for a standby, kung pao chicken, which was outstanding. For a $3.50 up charge I tried the fried rice and it was also spot on. The vegetable egg rolls were perfectly cooked and flavorful - soft on the inside and crispy outside. It's my new favorite spot for Chinese food. read more

We would give this place 10 stars if we could. What a stand out! It's not a date night atmosphere, (don't be turned off by exterior of building either) but you cannot beat the freshness, quality and selection of the food options and the service was kind, attentive but not smothering-excellent. The wide variety of entree choices offer something for everyone, are generous portions, and have plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. It was truly the best Chinese food I've had in quite a while, anywhere. Cannot recommend more highly. read more

In my previous review, I gave Golden House a very low score, but that was from many years ago when they had different management. These days, this restaurant actually stays true to their claim regarding "healthy Chinese food." They are probably one of the few Chinese restaurants in town that allows substitution to brown rice (whole grain) instead of white rice, even for fried rice. The major drawback to this is that they're slightly more expensive compared to other Chinese restaurants in the area, (I've not had a bill less than $50 for 2 people.) However, all the staff are really nice and with their menu, they really have something for everyone. One of the favorites is definitely the walnut shrimp, only here at Golden House that I've it with pineapples! The house fried rice substituted with brown rice is filling and yummy. They also have good vegan and vegetarian options. I'm glad things have changed, and I'm happy to update my review. Golden House is one of the better Chinese restaurants in the Eastside of Tucson. read more

They are very very busy. The staff is wonderful, food is reasonably fast. The staff knows the regulars and is knowledgeable about their orders and knows them by name. I would love to live in the area to know this place better. 10/10 Egg rolls are very good, rice, and tempura the same. They only have 2 egg rolls- chicken and "original". They have a lot of people ordering out, so the place will appear busy, but it's great to have a seat and check it out! read more

So bad. We've gotten take out from here before, though it was a few years ago. We remember it being decent. We have family in town so we got a big order from here today for dinner and it was pretty awful. We ordered chow mein but instead we got some very soft soppy noodle dish. The snow peas and shrimp, while typically a light refreshing dish, was bland. The orange chicken was completely inedible. It was so overcooked that it was dry and chewy despite having sauce on it. And the egg foo young legit tasted like breakfast, so eggy. I wish I could get my money back because this meal was disappointing on almost every level. The crab puffs and Mongolian beef were good however and I like that the meal came with two containers of white rice. Definitely pass on this place. read more

Golden house came so highly recommended to us, and I was so excited to try their food, as they will make any dish gluten free upon request! Not only is their service extremely quick, but they are incredibly friendly, offer large helpings in their dishes and are so aware and respectful of diet restrictions. I love ordering takeout for myself when I am putting in long hours in the studio, because I can get about three meals out of one order of Mongolian Beef! The vegetables have always been bright and fresh, the soup, rice and meats always so full of delicious flavor and cooked to perfection. When we stopped in for lunch, we were given top-notch service by the friendly wait staff, and I even received kind reminders about which items I needed to avoid, once they knew I was ordering gluten-free! Always so good. We come here quite often. This time, we came here on Christmas day. We didn't want to cook. And it was the best decision. First time we didn't have to wait for a table. I always really enjoy their food. We ordered everything safely gluten free - a Celiac's heaven. We got general tso's chicken, chicken cho mein (sub rice noodles), and lemon chicken. All were so delicious. The staff is extremely attentive and friendly. Every one of them came up to chat with our 10 month old. We were embarrassed of the mess he made, but they wouldn't let us clean up. The only thing I wish is that it was a bit cooler inside. Wonderful experience and will be going again shortly. read more
