Worst customer service ever. I don't know who these people think they are but they are the rudest most elitist staff I have ever met in my entire life. We tried to get a brief pre-dinner drink at Cana and watch the sunset. The hostess told us that they were completely booked even if we only wanted to have a drink for 15 minutes (there was literally no one at any of the tables). I cannot believe the Fairmont has such horrible staff working for it that are so rude to potential new customer (we were considering booking a room that night). There's clearly this elitist thing that is going on with poorly paid staff that feel the need to exert their power by being really rude to paying customers so they can have some semblance of dignity. read more

I came here tired, hungry, and desperate after striking out at several other spots (thanks again, COVID). I didn't think we would have any better luck here but my husband was certain this would work out for us and I am happy to report that he was right and I was wrong! We were promptly seated outside and asked to scan for the menu. I was happy to find some vegetarian options for me and a solid cocktail menu for him. I ordered the avocado flatbread with a side of yucca fries; my husband ordered fish tacos. The yucca fries with the dipping sauce are totally addictive with great crunch factor. My husband thought the fish tacos were just sublime -- especially with a squeeze of lime on top. Fish was hot and crispy, cabbage slaw was also fresh and the tangy, spicy, crispy flavors all came together really well. My avocado flatbread was a real surprise and the winner for me! Definitely made fresh and the zaatar on top really brought the dish together. I wasn't sure about the "cauliflower flatbread" itself but it was thin, crispy, and didn't have any cauliflower aftertaste. We were both pleasantly surprised by the food here. I was less than thrilled with my mai tai -- it just wasn't anything special. Menu overall is fairly pricey as well but the food more than made up for the drink. Overall, 4 stars! read more

We arrived on a Saturday night at 8pm with a reservation and were one of the only tables, but we were never served. We waited 15 minutes and nobody came to our table, even for water. If it was busy that would have been fine but we felt totally ignored. We ate at Meat Market in the same hotel instead and they were very attentive and the food was great. Beautiful setting, great service, underwhelming menu & lousy food. Salad: huge pieces of tomato with tiny cubes of watermelon and a few bits of avocado. If you cut the tomato & got all 3 items on the fork, it was tasty, but the proportions were way off. Shrimp was limp, gray and not at all fresh tasting. The pork in the mofongo would have been good it it weren't so dry as to be HARD. And the chicken was...chicken. For a dish that was meant to be shared, it wasn't sliced and required a lot of work. The presentation of dishes was lovely, and our server was outstanding. Dessert was pleasant, but nothing thing remarkable. I want this place to be better, I hope it was an off night. read more

Definitely much more pricy than any other restaurant hence the four stars, but food is actually good. The crab risotto hits different but the other dishes you can get at many other restaurants. Overall a very convenient place to stop by if ur staying at fairmont. read more

The breakfast is good, was well worth it with the pool villas because we had a credit of $34 a day per guest for breakfast so we'd order the el San Juan breakfast which is $34 before tax it includes any plate except for the steak and comes with coffee and juice. Ask for Orlando he's the best server at this place so attentive and friendly. We stayed here for 8 days and had 3 different servers no one could compare to how attentive he was, bringing out the mimosas as soon as he saw we were getting low and even put our last one in a to go cup. But I think that the breakfast buffet is way overpriced. $19 for intercontinental buffet which offers very very limited number of items, and $30/hot buffet (pancakes, omelet etc). Tea, coffee and juices are included. Nothing memorable about food and coffee, just very basic level. You can't come to that cafe directly from the beach if you're not staying in that hotel... the security send us to the street entrance which was annoying. read more

Perhaps two stars is not entirely accurate, but I felt the line-cooks ruined the whole red snapper, mofongo, and rice with arroz con cangrejo (rice with crab) with too much salt. This may not be the restaurant for you If you have high blood pressure. However, their food preparation, ingredients and presentation were 4-star. My wife had to stop eating the arroz con cangrejo because of the amount of salt. I also had to remove the skin from the red snapper because of the salt. If this their normal style of cooking, then it might explain why there was very light traffic in this restaurant on a Saturday night. read more

My family was staying at the Fairmont, and we had kind of a late start so we decided to check out this place. Everything was way overpriced and honestly not worth it. I ordered a fruit plate and scones and was charged $80. The fruit plate had grapes, watermelon, pineapple and half of it was sour. Literally the only thing we enjoyed were the truffle fries, and we paid about $300 for the meal in all. My brother ordered a burger which came out so late that we were done with our meal when it came out, and he was full from snacking on our meals. All in all, very overpriced and disappointing, and the one star is for the fries and the location. read more

Got there for lunch. No host to seat me. No customer service. From the waiting area I could hear people in the kitchen yelling cuss words. We ate at Caña 5 times during our week-long vacation, 3 times for breakfast and twice for dinner. The food each time was excellent! For breakfast, the favorites of the group were chilequiles, eggs Benedict, and pancakes. We had also tried the steak and eggs and the egg sandwich. We met Justine, the director of Restaurants at this resort. She was so helpful in givng us recommendations for places to explore during vacation. She even helped us get reservations at another Fairmont resort restaurant. For dinner, both times, we had Alexandra as our server, please request her if you can, she is an awesome, attentive server. Our first dinner we got the 6-course Taste of Caña, and each dish was truly amazing. They were so accommodating to my food allergies so I could still appreciate all 6 courses with some modifications. All 5 of us were so happy with our dinners and quality of service. The second time for dinner, Alexandra went above and beyond to help us select our dinners and giving good pairings on cocktails. She is very knowledgeable and we really enjoyed chatting with her. We had the specials of the night, a 2-lb. pork chop and a whole yellowtail snapper Both dinners here were honestly some of the BEST food on any vacation I've ever had! I highly recommend coming here if you are staying nearby (or at the Fairmont like we did). Remember if you're dining anywhere on the island, it takes time to enjoy the food and company, we had dinner for over 2 hours and breakfast for 1.5 hours, so plan accordingly. You could tell something was going wrong that night, be it understaffed or just behind on orders, but this experience was dismaying. Perhaps on another night they're on their A-game. But from when we were seated (had confirmed reservation outdoor got sat indoor anyways) up until dessert, everything was sub par. The staff the first two days were great, once the weekend came around it seemed like they got more bitter and were overwhelmed. The prices are staggering high. After being seated, no server came to our table for 20 minutes...this is unacceptable! The server brought us two small plates for literally no reason, because they didn't serve any kind of complimentary breads or anything. After she took our order, she never came back to check on us or refill our waters or anything. We didn't see her again until she came to give us our check. If they were understaffed for some reason, they could at least give us a heads up and apologize, but there was no such thing. We felt ignored the whole time and we weren't the only ones, two other tables close to us were very upset due to the service as well. The food was not great. I ordered the octopus, which came partly burned. My date ordered the rabbit empanadas, the only decent thing in our whole experience. Expected So much more from an upscale restaurant like this! We will never be back. There are so many other amazing places to dine in this area of PR. We truly regret spending our time and money here. read more

Chef Juliana Gonzalez returned to her homeland and has arrived with a bang. Great location in the newly renovated El San Juan Hotel. As great as the location is, it fails to compare against the great food. Octopus cooked in duck fat, codfish fritters, slow roasted pork, guinea hen fricasé, yellow tail snapper, mofongo; essentially the flavors of the island she grew up in, taken to the next level. All ingredients sourced locally really show up in the freshness of the final product. Make room for dessert. The Barrilito Bread pudding is the way all meals should end. read more

Exceptional dining experience. We had the pulpo salad with tostones my dinning companion reported it was excellent, I can vouch for the tostones they were yummy. I'll start with dinner here - the food is flat-out delicious. We had the bacalaitos (not the usual disks, but round fritters) which were wonderful. The cilantro aioli it came with, sadly, was flavorless. But then the mofongo arrived - a giant portion! It was super tasty, with duck broth underneath and giant chicharrón sitting on top. Finally, we had the arroz mamposteo with lechón - another huge portion of creamy, savory rice and beans with a sizeable and perfectly-cooked square of pork belly on top. We've got two more nights at the El San Juan, and we're definitely coming back here. Good flavors for the food and my drink (a watermelon and cucumber rum mix) was delicious. Prices looked high at first for "shareables", but the perfectly large portion sizes explained everything - three items were more than enough for the two of us! Staff are kind, but seem a little confused still - don't know how long they've been open, but the server had trouble explaining how "shareables" worked, and at the morning breakfast buffet, there were several problems (first, our table was given away to someone else while we were at the buffet, then later they started to bus it while we were getting seconds). Breakfast was good, a bit pricey ($25/pp), but they had a fairly extensive buffet with omelet station. Some oddities, like no butter for the toast/bagel/croissants, just margarine, and little cinnamon dough circles were labeled as "fried cheese". But the bacon was perfectly cooked, the croissants were light as air, and they had a great selection of omelet ingredients. read more

After landing in Puerto Rico fairly late in the evening and having booked at a restaurante that was under staffed given COVID, I walked into Cana in hopes of being able to find a birthday dinner spot for my fiancé. We were greeted by a beautiful smile and spirit, Sheila. She was super kind and found a seat for us although they were fully booked. Two champagne glasses to start and the night was off to an amazing start. I even remember the hostess walking by and giving a thumbs up, asking if we were good. That was so appreciated.
