    Pollo Loco

This old establishment is just as I remember it, nothing fancy, very casual. The service is excellent and appreciate their friendliness. My pollo loco was fine but nothing special, the salad that came with it was maybe 3-4 bites. What was delicious was the soup that comes with dinner - that was excellent! The flour tortillas chips were addicting too, they were so good. My friend had trouble finding the chicken in her tacos - it was minimal. It was a reasonably priced restaurant so wouldn't mind returning to try something different.

I had been going here 40 years. It was the go to Mexican restaurant of mine and my late husband. He passed 10 years ago so I haven't had the heart to go back without him. But I finally did on what would have been our anniversary. It's alright but it's not the same. Food has lost a lot of its flavor. They used to have the best red sauce on their enchiladas. Now it's pedestrian nothing special. And of course the homemade fried flour tortilla chips are gone replaced with common bagged tortilla chips. Shame...nothing ever stays the same. Service was friendly and excellent.

Around for ages, older than most patrons and even servers here, Caballo Blanco is a Sacramento Mexican dining staple. Upon walking in there's cobblestone and wood all over the place. The place feels old and historic but by design. It's well kept and clean. My grandparents met here on the second floor back when it was open at night for live music and dancing. Knowing that holds a special place in my heart. So I'm inclined to like the place. Last Friday was only second visit here. Why my mom never brought me here growing up knowing her parents met here, I will never know. But the food is damn good here! Its authentic classic Mexican dishes make me want to try everything on the menu. The complimentary chips and salsa are the perfect starters to a great meal. Then the soup that is included with every entree are like a small hug from an old family member. The broth is hearty, the noodles and perfect. I could eat a huge bowl of it. The guac appetizer is creamy and flavorful, would recommend. The carnitas here are juicy yet crispy, they also serve a lot of it . Tortillas served with every dish are handmade and taste spectacular. Their beans are really good but I'm not sold on the rice. Went with the steak on my last visit and that hit the spot! Servers here are attentive and friendly. The crew here is tight knit and get people in and out in a timely fashion without the hurry up feeling. Caballo Blanco's food impressed my fiancee and I within the first few minutes of our visit. Her and I will be back again and again as it is now one of our favorite Mexican restaurant options in the Sacramento area.

Upon entering we were able to seat ourselves no wait time. Our servers was Lupe & Pepe they were more than accommodating with personality plus. We ordered the Skirt Steak Enchilada with Rice & Beans and Filete De Pescado with rice & Beans. Our food was served piping heat hot and oh my goodness the food was AWSOME! Packed with lots of flavor. The food was definitely prepared with much love. You will be amazed. We definitely will be back.

Delicious food, both the chicana de res and chile colorado are flavorful and good quality beef. The service here is quick and friendly. I like the interior decorations it feels old school but kept up. There is a parking lot in the back as well which is nice.

Yes this restaurant is still fire. I haven't been here in over 30 years. However, after 30 years I finally returned and it was everything I remembered it to be. The restaurant is older but it's clean and the staff is amazing. It's not to noisy and very inviting. The food is fire, I had the 2 beef taco and cheese enchilada combo. Everything tasted really good and they give you plenty of food. I enjoyed everything and I definitely recommend sliding through here.

Caballo Blanco is past sixty years of having the best table chips in Sacramento, possibly the world. Don't forget your food is coming after though. Got the spicy chicken. Their spicy actually is spicy, not Burger King angry fries fake spicy. You won't not take stuff home. I am stuffed but somehow still hungry for more. This is not light Mexican food for those on diets such as myself, though the salad is good. They serve soup before dinner but not worth mentioning. Good service and still sane prices in 2024. No complaints at all, left with a full happy belly and then some. Not crowded either, thankfully this place is a local secret to this day.

    Taco and tostada combo

This spot is a great spot to get some OG mexican food. They have a big space and plenty of parking. They have a good size menu but I usually go for the combo plates because you get a lot of food for around 15 bucks. All the plates come with rice and beans, and the meal starts with chips and salsa, which is solid. My go to is a crispy beef taco and enchilada. Both are covered with cheese and delicious. You will get all the authentic mexican food feels. There are other options for meats, and they have burritos, tostada, quesadilla, etc. Definitely a staple on Franklin that is worth trying if your nearby.

We finally had time off again on a Sunday to come and enjoy thier yummy Sunday Brunch…read more Everything tasted amazing! Wish I could eat more I would of tried more dishes. Last time we were there I thought I was able to get just plain tortillas from the tortillas lady spot. But she looked confused then I asked for a few flour tortillas. She asked what meat I wanted to make street tacos. That's fine the pork tasted very good. But I like plain tortillas with the eggs and other dishes. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. I guess next time we will ask the server. We started with the omelets this time. Very good and well made. We tried many things, hard to take pictures. It was very busy and carrying a plate didn't work well when taking pictures.

The portions have been cut in 1/2 for a lot of menu items here over the last 5 years namely the chimichangas but seems like everything else too. The chimichangas used to be twice the size they are now and were loaded with cheese. Now they have no cheese and 1/2 the filling so there mostly flour tortilla now. Very disappointing and the plates they use now are smaller, they used to serve the food on these huge platters. Anyway went there last night (1st time in 3 years) and this is the plate I got. The 2 chimichangas are now the same size as the tamale on the other side of the plate. The service was terrible too. We did not get our food until almost an hour and by the time the food showed up we were full from the chips and bean dip and salsa wich by the way we had to wave them down several times as we seemed invisible to refill the chips and our drinks. We wont be going back again for probably another 3 years. I highly recommend Felipe's in Citrus heights on Auburn blvd. Way better value and the food quality is on par with el tapatio but with five star service!

The restaurant had great energy and a fun, buzzy atmosphere. The crowd was a lively mix of people from the Capitol, couples enjoying date night and moviegoers grabbing dinner before or after a show. We ordered the carnitas and carne asada. Both plates were generous and full of flavor. The carnitas were tender and practically fell apart with a fork, and the carne asada was cooked perfectly. Unfortunately, the service was lacking during our visit. One of our meals was forgotten and we had to flag down the server to let him know. Our server also wasn't around very often, so it was difficult to get refills or ask for anything we needed. When we requested a specific number of to-go boxes, we weren't given enough and had to get up and ask for additional boxes ourselves. Overall, the food was enjoyable, but I took away 1 star for the lack of service. The service could definitely use some improvement, especially since it wasn't busy when we went. With more attentive service, this could have been a much better dining experience.

They have a brunch menu but we both ended up ordering from the main menu. She had Camarones de Borrachos and I had La Torta Gorda Carnitas. Both were extremely flavorful. The Camarones was a new recipe apparently. More chipotle flavored with a slight kick. From the looks the shrimp were very plump. My Torta was great. Bread was nice and butter and the carnitas were magnificent as advertised by our friendly waiter, Dustin. I also had a Horchatalada which was a sweet way to wash down this heavy food. I hadn't been in a few years…read moreand had really been craving their food, so when we had tickets to a show this past week I wanted to take my girlfriend there beforehand. It's always been a busy place and sometimes hard to get into before a show, but the service was always great. This time we sat outside, which actually had a really nice view of the Golden 1 entrance. Our waiter was really nice and courteous, but it was pretty obvious he was doing the job of about three people. He did the best he could and stayed friendly the whole time, but when you're spread that thin it's hard to stay on top of drinks, food coming out, checking on tables, etc. We didn't really hold that against him because it seemed much more like a staffing issue than anything he was doing wrong. One of the things I've always liked about Polanco is their carafe of Palomas. We ordered one at the bar and then another at the table. When we got the bill, we noticed an extra charge for four cups. After looking at it again, we realized that after paying $48 for a carafe, you're also being charged for the cups you drink it out of. That is honestly one of the most ridiculous charges I've ever seen at a restaurant. I've always really liked this place, so it was disappointing. Being short staffed is one thing, but that's a management issue, not the waiter's fault. Charging people extra for cups after they just bought a $48 carafe of cocktails is just wild. This review does not refer to their food, ambiance, decor or staff. Unfortunately this has to do with under staffing (managing issue) and now charging for CUPS
