In the evening the lighting on the deck area is sooooo bright we felt like we were at a prison. You're ok if you directly face the river. But the lights hurt our eyes. The drinks are watered down. We had a great experience. We were skeptical because of some of the reviews, but decided to try it. We were given a table on the river (yes!) and our waitress was super friendly and checked in on us to take our order pretty quickly. She was back every time Hubby's drinks went empty and the food was delicious. We have no complaints, only praise! Went on Friday evening 6/20/20. This was a second choice after leaving a previous restaurant due to poor COVID-19 procedures. The outdoor atmosphere was much better and patrons were spaced correctly. Staff had masks on but mostly wore them down around their chin. Our waitress made an effort to pull her mask up over her mouth when approaching our table. Bartending staff did not have masks on at all. The women's restroom was disgusting. Toilet paper all over the floor. Toilets that would not flush. Not clean. They only have air dryers so if you are concerned, grab toilet paper or a napkin to open the door to get back out. The kitchen is right across from the bathroom. The walls are made of plexiglass or glass and you can see into the kitchen. The first time I walked by, only one cook had his face covered with a gator. The second time, no cooks had their faces covered. We were there later in the evening, and our waitress came up to make sure we were doing OK before she had to take a garbage bag and go clean up the parking lot. I asked her if she would be wearing gloves and she said she would. Our waitress was very nice. The food was OK. We had appetizers that were cooked, so we felt safe eating. There was a large group of 20+ people off in the corner. Just so many violations of COVID-19 prevention. As a nurse practitioner it just blows my mind. Some say "they have COVID-19 fatigue" and I say, that's impossible because restaurants are just re-opening. Perhaps I am more sensitive to the trends because I am a nurse practitioner and I am in a higher risk population. At least this restaurant got the physical distancing correct. By the time we left absolutely no staff had masks on. Seemingly trivial things, like sweeping next to patrons who are eating, which is just disgusting was going on. I've heard so many excellent reviews about the cabana. Maybe my first experience was at a bad time of day? I don't know, but I was very disappointed. Especially in these times when restaurants are supposed to be showing patrons that they are following guidelines to keep us safe from the spread. I would think the importance is under scored even more so now; When our own governor highlights that Hamilton County is a growing hotspot. I am undecided as to whether or not I would ever patronize this establishment again. If so, it would be during the day when I feel like they would be on their "best behavior" for their "better and higher spending crowd." read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE. it is great to go to during the week or on the weekend. It is all outdoor seating. Some seating is under the shelter while some isn't. They have sand volleyball courts. They also have three different bar areas which is nice when it is busy. They have great food as well. On the weekends they will have some live music which is fun to listen to while hanging out. It is good for dinner as well as enjoying some drinks with friends. read more

With all the covid 19 stuff going on I hate to have to give a bad review but just felt like this restaurant could've done better. I live almost an hour away and decided it would be nice to come here for lunch. But since it's so far, I made sure to call before we left to see if there was a wait and was told on the phone there wasn't but when we got there an hour later there was almost a 2 hour wait so how did it go from "no wait" to almost a 2 hour wait in the span of an hour??? I guarantee there was a wait and I was just lied to because these places are hurting for business right now. Also asked at the hostess stand if it was possible to sit right there on the river (cause that's what I drove an hour for) and was told they couldn't guarantee seating but seeing as how I was supposed to wait almost 2 hours, why can't I sit by the river since the restaurant is called cabana ON THE RIVER ?? It just seems misleading. I get these places are just following regulations but you also have to be honest with people! If there was a wait then why wasn't I told that on the phone BEFORE I drove an hour! I already drove an hour, and then to wait 2 more before even being seated and I can't even sit by the river ? That's ridiculous and just HORRIBLE customer service! Also They should have it on their website/social media that they can't take seating requests. Ended up leaving cause I was starving and couldn't wait that long but I definitely won't be back! read more

The steak on a stick is good but our last experience left a lot to be desired. If you order something and do not like it you still have to pay for it and whatever you order in it's place. We have always loved having lunch or dinner at the Cabana and like to come back to the OH side of the river a few times a year to do so. Attempted to do so today. Upon arrival, there was a sign that said "seat yourself." We started to take a table with 6 chairs and were rudely told we could not sit there because we had only a party of four and had to find a round table. Then we were told we would just have to walk around, basically playing a game of musical chairs, until we saw a table become free and then race to it to try and beat out other customers. After a couple saw us heading to a table with two children in tow, they raced to it and basically disregarded that we had young children with us and that we had arrived before them. It is doubtful we will return anytime soon. read more

We were surrounded by smoke, and was told by our server that as long as screens were open it was allowed. Just ate the 100% anus burger at the Cabana - tasted like shit. Absolutely disgusting. I understand it's bar food, but damn. This food was unbelievably sub par. Also, prior to the "meal" my wife ordered a vodka & tonic and I got a slightly cold beer, the waitress/bartender noticed she had brought in a bottle of water and the little witch attempted to confiscate it telling her that "it may be vodka and people try to do that all the time here." Just left here with a party of 20+ because we waited an hour for a table spoke with a manager and she said there was nothing she could do. Looking around there was plenty of tables to push together to accommodate my party of 20+ and plenty of staff to assist with our orders. If I was an owner/manager of any kind of restaurant I would be highly upset that 20 people got turned away... That is a lot of money lost. I have heard from SO many people that Cabana is a perfect place to happy hour it up during the summer. So, my curiousity got the best of me and last Friday, Tony C. and I decided to go. It is a bit of a hike for us coming from Hyde Park. But, the drive is beautiful along the river and it's pretty much a straight shot with minimal traffic lights. So, its a nice drive. When we got there the parking lot was packed- good sign. The band was setting up outside- good sign And the bar facing the river looked like a tiki hut and had the Celtics game on- great sign. I was getting excited. I liked it already and I hadn't even ordered a drink yet. Because of the volume of people, and oh, there was plenty of people watching to be had, we had to wait. Birthday parties for little ones, an all ladies night out at another table and a huge table of people our age sipping on abnormally sized margaritas. (Hmmm, taking notes). Our wait was minimal and seemed to go by quickly with all the people watching, Celtics game and live music. We sat out on the deck facing the river. It was a gorgeous night and it being summer, we had to take advantage of the perfect, warm weather! The menu had something on it for everyone. The appetizers ranged from calamari to spinach and artichoke dip. We were so hungry by this point, we had to try one. The Spinach and Artichoke dip was our first order along with another round of drinks from the bar. As we waited we were thouroughly entertained. This is such a fun place. Tons of beachy feel, cabana music, resort feel. It was a great place to unwind from the week and start the weekend off on the right dancing foot. When the food arrived, it was served on plastic plates with plastic ware. It was all pretty good. I had the Asian Salad and Tony ordered the Chicken Sandwich. I would say with the quality of the food and the plastic ware, the food was a bit over-priced. But, the atmosphere was awesome, the live music was perfect and it was just too nice outside to care! The view is great, the atmosphere is nice. The food is alright (nothing special), but the service was terrible. The food is also way overpriced for the quality. Our server got our drinks then took the orders of 3 tables who got there after us instead of taking ours. When she finally did take our order she said "are you going to order food?" Just because we got waters to drink, she assumed we weren't eating? Food came out quick but we hardly saw our server after that. She never once checked on us to see how our food was, we had to ask another staff member for extra tartar sauce, and it took forever for her to bring us the checks. I really don't understand why so many people flock to this restaurant. I have been here twice and both times the service was slow and the food is nothing special. Two people with our group did not get their food until 30 minutes after we did and their orders were nothing complex, in fact, one was a salad. Oh, and drinks needed to be requested twice before the server remembered to bring them, same 2x for refills.
