Im only giving 2 stars because of the view and deck area. It is pretty nice! Service was ok, took about 5 or more minutes to get our drink order. I had an Italian sub ($9.99) and Paul had the chicken fingers ($7.99) with fries ($2.99). The sub was good, would have been much better if it came out hot. It was lukewarm at best. As for Paul's meal...it was also not very hot. His meal was definitely not worth $11. Frozen chicken fingers and fries should have gone for no more than $6...and that is if they are piping hot. Another thing to mention... we felt very young there....and we are both in our 30s. Underwhelmed, but plan on giving it another shot later this summer. read more

Even though I'm originally a Cincy east-sider (therefore a trip to Sayler Park equates with one to the moon), all it took for me to decide to trek to the Cabana was seeing FRIED PICKLE CHIPS on the menu. All too often, "fried pickles" turns out to be drained slivers in tasteless batter. "Chips" was the magic word that sent me barreling out River Rd on a sunny afternoon. Mission tastily accomplished! Someone there knows their way around a Fryalator. I hated sharing, but everybody at the table started clamoring for one when they saw how quickly they were disappearing as I crooned with every bite. The grill cook also delivered nicely with the French fries and onion rings. Even the "mostly vegetarian" member of my group was grabbing at 'em as she virtuously consumed (and enjoyed) her big portabello mushroom salad. Not an intelligible word could be heard from the teen with us as he ecstatically wolfed down his CAB burger, until he polished off the last bite. Then he leaned back, loudly exhaled, and gave a grinning "YEAH!" My mistake was ordering fish n' chips, 'cause the piscine portion of the meal was undeniably frozen filets (Gorton's?) But the awesomely crunchy taters, and of course the fried pickle chips, made up for that. Service was excellent - fast, thorough, and friendly without being obsequious. What better place in the area could there be to scarf down some hot goodies and cold beer at? The expansive dining area offered sweeping, unobstructed views of the sun-dappled river and the wooded hills of the Kentucky side. Cabana could probably do a booming business by installing some hammocks to rent by the hour. We could've stayed until past nightfall just taking in the scenery. But...one look at the other customers while hearing country/pop tunes had me remarking that it was the "Whitest" spot I'd been to in a long time. Just sayin'. P.S. Anybody else here tired of getting hit by the glare from anti-smoking nuts' polishing their halos? Most of Cabana on the River is an OPEN-AIR PATIO. That's why they're only in business seasonally, duhhhhh. It was great for me to be able to fire up a coupla cigs during a restaurant visit without having to leave the table for a change. read more

This place is a freaking joke they make you wait for a party of 5 no matter what because all big tables are for 6 ppl there were at least 5 tables open for 6 ppl but because we only had 5 ppl they made us wait! Four of us went there last evening for dinner and drinks. There was a wait but it didn't take long. We were seated out on the deck and it does have a beautiful view of the river and the Kentucky hillside. It was a good thing we carried our drinks in from the outside bar because no one came to our table to take our order. No biggie at that point because we weren't in a hurry anyway. I had to go to the bar and get our next round of drinks. People to the right and left of us, that were seated after us were being waited on. We had to go to the hostess desk and request service. Although the young lady was very apologetic and assured us someone would be right with us it was another 10 minutes before we flagged down another server to try and take our order, No one asked us if we needed drinks, ever! We finally got a server to take our food order and the food was delivered in a reasonable amount of time. But again, didn't ask us if we needed drinks. Also, my wives order included cole slaw and she was not given a fork. The food was ok but nothing to write home about. The wait staff is very inexperienced and that did not serve to enhance our dining experience. Yes the location and the view was great everything else about this visit was disappointing. We frequently eat at the cabana as it is convenient. The view is fantastic of the KY hillsides and the Ohio River. The menu comes packed with great pub grub and everything we tried is delicious. Great cocktails and frozen drinks too. The prices are good and the wait staff very friendly and efficient. My husband loves the black and blue salad with grilled beef tenderloin chunks galore. I love the huge spinach salad with egg, red onion, mushrooms and a great hot slaw dressing. I either have the Mahdi Mahdi or salmon, both of which are always grilled to perfection. We also love the creamy guacamole and chips. The CAB burger is huge enough to take home half and the fries are some of the best I have had anywhere, crispy well seasoned and good potato flavor. If you want a meal the feels like a vacation I recommend this place highly. read more

This a great place if you're not in a hurry and just want to relax and watch the river go by. However it is very unpleasant when you're eating with your family and someone at the next table lights up. Apparently if the wind barriers are up, you can smoke in there. They need to section off some tables for the smokers or do like some bars in northern KY where you can only smoke late in the evening when it's more of a night/music crowd. read more

If I could give 0 stars stars I would. First we had to pay before our food arrived to the table. We could not get our food cooked to our liking. I was told I couldn't get my tuna made medium. I could only get it rare or well done. No in between because there's a "button" that makes it rare or well done they also stated it was supposed to be seared. Very confusing. I still ordered the tuna and it was terrible. I told the server that I did not like my meal and she took the food. I barely touched it. I was not offered anything else after the server took the food. I asked to speak to the manager Nicki about either getting a different meal or getting a refund since I was forced to pay for my food before I even received it. The manager Nicki was very rude. I was told she couldn't accommodate me because I got my tuna made a certain way (a way that I didn't even want in the first place but was only offered 2 options) while I'm speaking to the manager at the bar the server throws my half drank margarita away after she told me to go speak to the manager at the bar about a refund or getting something else to eat. As I'm still speaking to the manager and noticed what happened I told her I wasn't finished with my drink. The server said I barely had a anything left in my cup (half drank) and I stated I still had a half cup left. She was very rude and said she'll just pay for another one (she was very upset while saying it) The server made another drink in a smaller cup and only filled it up half way. Worst experience I've ever had. The food was terrible. Me and my party were treated horribly. I would not recommend. I was not the only person in my party that had a problem with their food. Cabana is definitely a great summer time place to visit on the west side, it had been a number of years since my last visit. The food was good, it's your typical bar type food, the service was great, and the drink options were great too! There was a band the Saturday I had visited with my family and all in all it's a great restaurant to visit to be able to eat outside, enjoy some drinks, and listen to some music. It is however crowded so it isn't a place you'll want to go if you are wanting to be able to carry on a conversation with your whole party, it is quite loud. But I'll definitely visit again. read more

Food is okay, I normally have a great time because it is a very care free atmosphere but I was very disappointed with my service today. We had an appetizer that was not very good, especially for the 10$ we paid. I asked a waitress if it was possible to get a new basket, she looked at me as if I didn't know what I was even eating. She didn't offer to take it back and I felt too guilty to ask. Our own waitress saw the barely touched basket of food and did not say a word towards us, not once did she ask if everything was okay. I am a frequent Cabana goer, and their food is quite possibly the best bar food on Cincinnati's West Side. However, their service, on many occasions, leaves something to be desired. Today, I called in an order for a carry out. I arrived early so that I could have one of Cabana's famous "creamcicle" frozen drinks...my favorite. I went to the bar to let them know I was there (for my carryout), and to order that drink. A young lady near me behind the bar acknowledged me and said that "she will be with you in a minute." I wish. I sat there for at least 7 minutes, and "she" walked past me at least a dozen times without saying one word. She would not even make eye contact with me. I began to get a bit aggravated as she had no problem chatting with other people at the bar, in a way that suggested that she was not in a hurry. Why would she be? It was only 5:30, and they had dozens of open tables, suggesting they were not "that" busy. When "she" did acknowledge me, it was with a surly attitude. I was not dressed casually as I would have been normally. I had just come from a memorial service. I was wearing my sunglasses, even after taking my seat. I wear them always as I have developing cataracts. These were the ONLY things she knew about me. When "she" finally was willing to take my order, no smile, and her body language and the tone of her voice indicated total unfriendliness, no apology for the wait..this in a bar where customers are directed to have "fun," sit down and relax and "kick back." You might offer that she was having a bad day, or had problems outside of her job. Well, so do I. When I am working, however, I approach people differently: 1) I am an adult and I conduct myself as such; 2) I know that I am not the only one with pressing matters; 3) I "suck it up" and DO my job to the best of my ability and offer others who are undeserving of my "bad mood" or my "preconceived ideas about them," the same pleasant service as I would a friend, even though they are strangers to me. When "she" delivered my creamcicle drink, it was basically chopped ice. It tasted the same as others I have ordered in the past, but the others were smooth, and not a cup full of ice crystals. Half way through the drink, it was impossible to finish using a straw, as the ice crystals would naturally not go through a straw. What was left was a half a cup of orange colored ice mixed in with the whipping cream garnish. I asked for another, politely asking if she could make sure the next one would be smooth enough to go through the straw, and presented her with my first drink. She took it with a "look" as if I had asked for something unreasonable. She did not offer to make the drink gratis, as if I were a business owner, I would have done along with an apology for the first drink, but nevertheless, I offered the $5.75 the drink cost for the second one. She took the cash from my hand and slapped the twenty-five cent change on the counter in front of me. Is this REALLY the kind of bartendress you want to have at your bar? Of course, I love the Cabana, and this experience will not stop me from enjoying it another time. But from now on, my tips will reflect the service I receive. I no longer, after tonight's experience, feel obligated to leave a tip for servers with an attitude, and I will be sure to remark on Yelp each and every time such an experience occurrs. read more

Went here for Mother's Day and it was absolutely awful. Mom ordered grilled shrimp dinner and it comes on kabobs, well the shrimp came out as fried shrimp, with French fries. Then, not only did they NOT fix it, they tried to charge us for it. Server had 0 idea of what she was doing and it wasn't even particularly busy for this kind of day and weather. The setting and atmosphere make the place a nice place if you want to relax on the river and have a couple drinks. I do not care for their menu and selection of food for the price you pay, but again I really think the place's selling point is that its on the river and its cozy. I have been coming to cabana for years and I am disgusted by the way we were just treated. On a nearly dead night... we waited an hour, with children, only to be told we could not be sat because other tables have been hanging out for 3 hours and that we would have to split our group to get a table. The manager gave us a huge attitude and after and hour and a half, with crabby kids, we were sat (at separate tables). When we decided to pull them together but keep separate servers, we were glared at and not served until finally one single server decided to take the table because it was "easier". 3 hours later our children finally got their average food & this is the last time we will be coming here. read more

The only thing good about this place is the view. Terrible service and over priced cheap tasting food. A friend and I ate there for lunch today, we had the exact same thing and both got food poisoning right after leaving the restaraunt! It was an all around horrible experience. It's like all the servers don't know how to interact with people. I sat there for 20 minutes waiting on my water to be refilled and asked a server passing by if she could get me some more water and she would just say"I'll let your server know" and never did, finally I got up to go to the bar and get the water for myself. Great view and vibe. I always feel like I've been on a beach vacation. Very fun atmosphere. There's usually a long wait but I don't mind waiting at the bar with a drink and appetizer. Only three stars because the menu is somewhat limited. Typical bar food but not much in the way of healthy choices. There is an abundance of fried food, good but not healthy! Another big downside is that smoking is allowed. I'll be back though, the next time I want to feel like I've been to the beach. read more
